This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is), and post the results on TRS Queue and wait your turn if a problem is present. The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread to collect evidence if you need help.
- If a wick check is too much for you, you can leave the issue at Tropes Needing TRS citing the discussion.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

People Sit on Chairs says they are used to "convey information" / "meaning".

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Fanservice Tropes convey the information that the character should be, by the standards of the story, seen as attractive.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I do think PSOC might need an update because not every single trope conveys some sort of meaning. Some of them are just plot points, character archetypes, or things that add to the tone (horror, comedy, fanservice, mystery, etc). A trope can't be completely void of any purpose. Someone sitting on a chair has no meaning, no impact on the story or character, and doesn't add anything to the way the story is presented or percieved.
So while no, not every trope literally needs to have some hidden meaning signified to the audience like PSOC claims, they do have to have a pattern of usage that, in some way, impacts the way the story is told.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI've no objections to making it clearer, since it's my main resource for "what's a trope". More accuracy is better!
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Posted about this a while back in the quotes thread but never got a response. The TRS thread for Those Two Guys closed without changing the quote, but the page quote and every quote on the quotes page all reflect the two most common forms of misuse, The Dividual or "a pair of Living Prop characters". Permission to remove?
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"Go ahead.
Done, and also rewrote the playing with page.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"I seem to have found a glitched page using the ancient Pmwiki namespace.
Pmwiki.Rolf Kaukas Once Upon A Time
It probably should be sent to the cut list quickly, but darn. I feel like an archeologist finding a long lost artifact.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."It was actually created only a week ago. Not sure why it was created, but I guess someone screwed up the namespace.
back lolWell, that's even weirder, then. We haven't used Pmwiki in years. In any case there's another page for the film in the correct Western Animation namespace, so we won't need to transplant anything when we give it the chop.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I think it's safe to send to the cutlist without TRS since a proper work page eists in the proper workplace: WesternAnimation.Rolf Kaukas Once Upon A Time.
Global Warming was unilaterally moved to its redirect Climate Change without any sort of discussion by AHI-3000, who has since been suspended. That said, all the wicks have been migrated. Does this need a TRS to solidify the move?
What do you mean by solidify?
Making the move official instead of having it remain a unilateral change.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.VideoGame.Raving Rabbids Travel In Time is a trope-less page that has been "under construction" for over a year. I'll probably cutlist it, unless someone has played the game and can salvage it.

"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."Maybe it was an April Fools joke? But yeah, in its shape it should be cut.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)That's not really a TRS issue though.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Where should I bring up this sort of stuff, then? I do apologize.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."Probably just ATT, tbh.
So the trend of people coming in late to discuss ideas that are no longer possible continues, and...yeah, I really think we should start doing the pinned-post method. It's getting exhausting to have to keep explaining to people that they're too late to pitch solutions if the crowner has already been made and called.
I know some decisions have been reversed in the past when enough people complained, but that's different from coming in just to say "I think we should do this" when the trope's already been cut, renamed, ect.

Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessIn case anyone should care, the Mondegreen cleanup is finished. For now, at least.
The Pennyfarthing Effect's cleanup is also done. I'm waiting for consensus on whether I missed anything, but yeah. The crowner also said to fetch a rename before yarding, but there hasn't been any discussion on that. And I'm settling on yarding because nobody piped up about sponsoring it on the TLP, either.
I'd like to apologize for all this.Since Yarding sends it back to the TLP eventually, a new name can just be hashed out there.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI was wondering if Discredited Trope needs a TRS thread.
The page is essentially "tropes that are obsolete/outdated enough that nobody uses them anymore", but a lot of the entries are for tropes that are still being used. Additionally, many of the entries also describe why the trope wouldn't pan out in real life, regardless of whether or not they're still being used in media, which is already covered by another index.
An earlier attempt at a thread was thrown out immediately for an "insufficient argument", but what exactly constitutes as a "sufficient argument"?
Here's an index check for your consideration.
Yeah, I wish they'd explained a little bit more what "insufficient argument" means in this context.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
Tropes do not need to affect the story, actually.
