Note: If a newly launched trope was already given a No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only designation while it was being drafted on the Trope Launch Pad, additions to the proper index do not need to go through this thread. Instead, simply ask the mods to add the trope via this thread.
This is the thread to report tropes with problematic Real Life sections.
Common problems include:
- Conversation on the Main Page
- Flame Bait
- Squicky content
- Impossible in Real Life
Real Life sections on the wiki are kept as long as they don't become a problem. If you find an article with such problems, report it here. Please note that the purpose of this thread is to clean up and maintain real life sections, not raze them. Cutting should be treated as a last resort, so please only suggest cutting RL sections or a subset thereof you think the examples in question are completely unsalvageable.
If historical RL examples are not causing any problems, consider whether it would be better to propose a No Recent Examples, Please! (via this forum thread) for RL instead of NRLEP. If RL examples are causing problems only for certain subjects, consider whether a Limited Real Life Examples Only restriction would be preferable to NRLEP.
If you think a trope should be No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only, then this thread is the place to discuss it. However, please check Keep Real Life Examples first to see if it has already been brought up in the past. If not, state the reasons and add it to the crowner.
Before adding to the crowner:
- The trope should be proposed in the thread, along with reasons for why a crowner is necessary instead of a cleanup.
- There must be support from others in thread.
- Any objections should be addressed.
- Allow a minimum of 24 hours for discussion.
When adding to the crowner:
- Be sure to add the trope name, a link to where the discussion started, the reasons for crownering, whether the restriction being proposed is NRLEP or LRLEO (and in the latter case, which subject(s) the restriction would be for), and the date added.
- Announce in thread that you are adding the item.
- An ATT advert should be made as well (batch items together if more than one trope goes up in a day).
In order for a crowner to pass:
- Must have been up for a minimum of a week
- There must be a 2:1 ratio
- If the vote is exactly 2:1 or +/- 1 vote from that, give it a couple extra days to see if any more votes come in
- Once passed, tropes must be indexed on the appropriate NRLEP index
- Should the vote fail, the trope should be indexed on KRLE page
Sex Tropes, Rape and Sexual Harassment Tropes, and Morality Tropes are banned from having RL sections so tropes under those indexes don't need a crowner vote.
As per Real Life Troping, we never trope unscripted real life sports — so sports tropes where RL examples would only apply to those scenarios don't need a crowner vote.
Crowner entries that have already been called will have "(CLOSED)" appended to them — and are no longer open for discussion.
After bringing up a trope for discussion, please wait at least a day for feedback before adding it to the crowner.

Notes:
- This thread is not for general discussion regarding policies for Real Life sections or crowners. Please take those conversations to this Wiki Talk thread.
- Do not try to overturn previous No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only decisions without a convincing argument.
- As mentioned here, the consensus is that NRLEP warnings in trope page descriptions can use bold text so that they stand out.
- The [[noreallife]] tag doesn't currently work. This is a deprecated tag that was introduced many years ago — originally, it would have displayed a NRLEP warning banner when you edited the page. However, there's been some staff conversation (Feb 2024) about what a new technical solution might look like, so we'd advise against deleting these from pages, at least until we have a decision as to whether it'll be fixed or replaced.

The Real Life folder for Ivy League for Everyone says the 2019 Varsity Blues scandal and people hacking their grades to get into Ivy League schools are examples of the trope being deconstructed. Is it just me or does this seems like a weird way to describe real life examples? As far as I know, a deconstruction shows how something in a fiction would play out in real life, but this is just real life itself, not fiction. Should these be rephrased?
Yeah, you can't play with a real life example.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWas there no crowner additions since November? Do we have enough for the next one?
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupA while back there was a consensus that Parallel Porn Titles should be In-Universe Examples Only as we didn't want TVT to be an index of porn films.
Any appetite to do something similar and declare Porn Names NRLEP as well?
Edited the thread title and unhooked the last Crowner, as there are no open options left and, as pointed out, it's been over a month.
For reference, the Crowner is still visible here.
We can start a new one as soon as we have some candidates.
Porn Names should be made NRLEP.
Kirby is awesome.personally, id keep it unless it got out of control (and id prefer to restore Parallel Porn Titles, since "might become a big index" is kind of out of our scope) but there is a legit concern about NSFW and also actors who want to distance themselves from porn
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadYou're right that the Parallel Porn Titles thing is out of our scope. That's why it was decided in the TRS.
Porn Names seems much less graphic, though. The section isn't great but it doesn't seem outright bad.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessMaking Parallel Porn Titles IUEO was actually decided by Content Violation Discussions, which is also where you'd go if you wanted to petition for its restoration (as with any other page cut or modified by that part of the forums). This thread is the wrong place for discussion regarding that page (but discussion regarding whether something should or shouldn't be done with Porn Names is fine).

Over on the NRLEP policy thread there's a question about how we best handle requests to restrict some RL categories without declaring a trope entirely NRLEP.
The initial proposal is that we'd seek consensus to bring that into the scope for this thread, then use the Crowners here to handle it if a decision is required.
Please comment there if you had a view.
Any further thoughts on the sandboxes? Some people have said to cut, but I don't want to just jump the gun.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI myself liked the old subpages better, since I could see why a page was NRLEP just from its index bar (if it was on NoRealLife.Too Controversial, for instance).
Ah, well. I’m not sure if we should keep the sandboxes, then.

Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project! We got rid of the categories because they'd become too restrictive; things on the crowner were shoehorned into them, and people often focused on the categories than on whether the example list was actually bad. It just caused too much trouble, and the reasons why a page is NRLEP isn't more important than that it is.
Anyway, it's too late to debate that now.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI was doing a type label cleanup and came across Big Ol' Unibrow which has two types the first being Evil Unibrow. It has a real life example despite being a Morality Trope.

I went ahead and deleted that. It's obviously against site policy to call real people evil on the wiki.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.I'd question the need for that split in the first place, but yeah.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThere have been several other tropes proposed since the last crowner. Should they be added to the current crowner?
Additionally, I agree with cutting the sandboxes.

A lot of the discussed tropes didn't actually need to be crownered, though.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI propose declaring Beach Episode NRLEP due to being an "episode" trope, and the current RL examples contain some creepiness.
All examples seem like misuse anyway, so I concur.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Vain Sorceress has a Real Life example, even though its a magic trope.
- Elizabeth Báthory is the historical Ur-Example. She was a sixteenth-century Hungarian countess and serial murderer who believed she could maintain her youth and beauty by drinking and bathing in the blood of young women. She also heavily inspired the changing of the vampire myth from the hideous eastern-European rat-faced ghoul to the modern beautiful but deadly aristocrat. However, controversy over the charges leveled at her remains to this day. While she was certainly guilty of beating her servants to near death (not an uncommon occurrence in that era), and she was probably not a very nice person, all of the other charges (that she bathed in virgin's blood and kidnapped and tortured young women and servants, among other things) remain unverified. That many of the charges were claimed by her political rivals makes the whole thing a tad suspicious. And obviously, this being Real Life, any reputed blood bathing wouldn't have the type of rejuvenating magic effect that fiction would have it.
BTW, has anyone tried to put the tropes from the previous crowner onto the NRLEP page?

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread! That's misuse, so cut away.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessJust realized, I love how the last sentence admits that blood bathing isn't the same thing as magic.

No, the sponsor just needs to take it to Locked Pages. But I can take care of it. ~Movie Nut 14
