This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.
Unused quotes should be put on a Quotes Wiki page (just replace the namespace in the URL of the wiki page you are making a quotes page for with Quotes/) or, if they don't have an article, on Quotes Looking for an Article.
Image captions are discussed elsewhere and have their own thread in the Image Pickin' forum.

^ I prefer the first suggestion.
Random thought: If media specific subpages can have their own images, would the same apply to quotes?
Edited by MacronNotes on Jul 23rd 2023 at 9:31:31 AM
Macron's notesAlso vote for the first one
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but don't media subpages have their own quotes (assuming someone has put up one)?
(x3) I like the Mark Twain one.
and I think so.
Because it seems to be getting buried and I think enough time has passed (EDIT: it's the 24th where I live at the moment), I would like to bump my suggestion.

The quote on Babies Ever After doesn't demonstrate the trope, which is how the end of a story reveals that the main character(s) won't simply be happy ever after, they'll have a happy family life forever after.
Current quote:
I had a look at the quotes pages, and there aren't many choices. The best option is this:
Shepard: I don't know. Marriage, old age, and a lot of little blue children?
Liara: You just say these things!
But that quote only expresses someone's desire for this trope to happen and it doesn't tell us whether the trope actually does happen. So, the only thing I could think of was the following. It's two quotes about the same subject, but I list them both because the second one is clearer that there's a story ending involved. Unfortunately, they're both a little long.
'Daughters?'
'Small, female children. They're devious, but they're prettier than sons, and they smell better.'
'How many?' Garion asked breathlessly.
'Quite a few, actually. I won't tell you the exact number. I wouldn't want to spoil any surprises for you, but when you get back to Riva, you'd better start expanding the royal nursery.' There was a long pause. 'Goodbye for now, Garion,' the voice said, and it was no longer dry. 'Be well.' And then the voice was gone.
'It has been a little hectic for the past few days, hasn't it? I suppose that if we put our heads together, we can come up with something exciting to do.'
'I know what I'm going to be doing,' Garion told him...'I'm going to be very busy being a father.'
'Your son won't stay young forever, Garion.'
'Geran isn't going to be an only child. My friend up here in my head warned me to expect large numbers of daughters.'
So... I think the choices are a short quote that discusses, but doesn't confirm, the trope, or a quote that confirms the trope but is much longer.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.ehhh, even if the current quote doesn't demonstrate that it's the ending to a story, it does demonstrate the idea that having babies is considered a happy conclusion to the struggles in one's life, which is an important aspect of the trope. the suggestions are much too long and focus more on the literal meaning, i think. i'm not attached to it or anything but it's the best of the options so far.

Doctor Whomage’s quote doesn’t describe anything related to the trope, and it’s from the same source as the image. Permission to cut? There’s no quotes subpage and I can’t find anything in the examples list, so it might have to be cut without a replacement
I agree, you can cut that quote.
The reference to that line being the page quote should also be removed from its example bullet, further down the page.

Agree w/ all of NoUsername's points. The current quote still captures the heart of the trope and is more succinct than the other choices.
Agree to cut. I don't see how the quote demonstrates the trope at all w/o knowing the context.

The page quote for Disney Live-Action Remakes seems to be just there to snark. Should it go?
I think it's an accurate if snarky representation of the set of films.
and it's Self-Deprecation which is a bit more acceptable than if it was just some random reviewer snarking about it
To be honest, I think it's just there to complain, as it was one of the reasons for why the Remakes got added to the complaining cleanup sandbox. I'd cut it.

Here are some suggestions for Doctor Whomage:
The quote for Improvised Catapult says nothing about catapulting, and I can't think of a replacement.
I think the first one is too long, the second one doesn't really sound like doctor who to me
I thought the first might be long but I decided to include it all to invite opinions on how much it could be shortened.
The Revolution Will Not Be Tropeablex5: I agree that the first one is the best. The second sentence is not as necessary, so can we make it:
: Agree that that quote isn't clearly connected to the trope at all. Vote to pull.
A quote I considered a while back for "Reborn as Villainess" Story, from Rewriting The Villainess.
Old duplicate quotes I noticed a while back:
- Flashback and InfallibleNarrator share the same Concerned quote.
- Last year's replacement of the quote on No Celebrities Were Harmed caused it to overlap with Expy Coexistence
I put this already one or two prior times. Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel has a part of the opening in unromanized Japanese and then translated. THIS REALLY isnt kosher.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Suggestion for Doctor Whomage:
The Inspector: The question, Constable, isn't where... but when?
Constable: Inspector, look out! Blorgons!
Blorgons: ERADICATE! ERADICATE!
The quote on I'm Not a Hero, I'm... doesn't clearly have anything to do with the trope (such as it is)
Suggest replacing it with the top of the Quotes tab:

For Accidental Innuendo, I'd like to propose a quote that actually lampshades the nature of the trope, rather than one that vaguely leaves it to interpretation if not for the note attached to it, as well as seeming more like a case of Have a Gay Old Time.
Critic: I mean... what kinda "toys" does he make, exactly?
Ratigan: Oh, I love it when I'm nasty!
That seems considerably weaker in terms of the alleged innuendo, though.
x5: The quote proposed for "Reborn as Villainess" Story sounds like an inversion of the trope: the character is initially a villain and then gains redemption (and it's not clear if this redemption includes death), rather than the character dies and then is reborn as a villainess.
: Both suggestions look good!
: Agree w/ ~nrjxll, I don't see how this quote demonstrates the trope
Since Flashback and Infallible Narrator have the same quote (x6), I recommend for Infallible Narrator this quote from The Muppet Christmas Carol. It's currently the quote for Narrator Tropes, but I think it would work better here:
Gonzo: I keep telling you — storytellers are omniscient. I know everything.
Rizzo: Hoity-toity, Mr. Godlike Smartypants.
Gonzo (turning towards the fourth wall): To conduct a proper search, Scrooge was forced to light the lamps.
[The window lights up from the lamps]
Rizzo: How does he do that?
The current page quote for Fantasy Counterpart Culture doesn't include a real-life cultural counterpart. I recommend replacing it with this one from the Quotes page:
Obi-Wan: Why is he talking in a French accent?
GM: It's just to indicate that he's from a different culture. He's not French French, he's—
R2-D2: Space French.
GM: ... Yeah.

Crown Description:
What should be the page quote for Monster.Fan Works?
Done.
Royal "We"'s quote is as follows:
AND WE DO ordain that the award of the Victoria Cross shall be governed by the Regulations set out in the Schedule.
IN WITNESS whereof We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent."
Now, I know that this decree has been the page quote for over a decade, but there's far pithier on the quotes page. Thoughts?
