  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: What exactly was the point of Raiden being in an insane asylum? It doesn't tell us anything about the character or his motivations. If it had an impact on his characterization, like making him more wary of humanity, then it would serve a purpose, but after he escapes it's never, ever brought up again. Additionally, at the end of the episode, Raiden acquires his iconic straw hat, but he doesn't have it at all during season 2.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: This show reinterprets Johnny Cage as a former Power Rangers actor whose frequent run-ins with the law have ruined his career and reputation. Since the end of Mortal Kombat: Legacy, a few real life Power Rangers actors have been at the center of legal scandals of their own.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Johnny Cage. Sure he's arrogant and confrontational, but watching his career collapse around him is still tragic. Watching his producers insult him and tell him his idea for a TV series is stupid, before pitching that exact same idea to a female actor... you really start to feel for the guy.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Shang Tsung is a representative of Outworld. Entirely devoid of his canon counterpart's sadism and cruelty, Shang Tsung proves to be a brilliant and perpetually polite businessman who prides himself on professional courtesy. Introduced attempting to recruit failing movie star Johnny Cage, Shang Tsung adjusts his goals and looks higher upon failure. Conversing with Earthrealm's former savior Liu Kang, who previously defeated and decapitated him, Shang Tsung never once lets his civil demeanor slip. Shang Tsung manages to use Liu Kang's grief over his girlfriend's death and his increasingly ruthless nature to turn Liu Kang to the side of Outworld. Liu Kang proceeds to intervene in the tournament and provide Outworld a massive advantage, all thanks to Shang Tsung's manipulations.
  • Narm: According to viewers who know Japanese, the segments of the Scorpion/Sub-Zero episodes spoken in the language were laughable.note
  • Special Effect Failure: Live-action Mileena's Tarkatan teeth only appear when the scene calls for it. This is especially evident in Legacy II when the camera does show close-ups of her face and only her human teeth are bared.
  • Squick: Several moments, especially in the second season.
    • Raiden's "treatments" are this mixed with Nightmare Fuel.
    • Liu Kang smashing someone's face against a pool table so hard their tooth gets rammed into the wood frame and their head snaps back without it.
    • Kenshi's cutting a guy right down the middle with his sword
    • Kitana's on-screen decapitation of Mileena
    • Scorpion's brutally murdering Sub-Zero with his own fatality
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: It's hard to believe a ghoulish-like monster in tattered rags is supposed to be Ermac. Many prefer the usually red and black-clad ninja with Glowing Eyes.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: For fans of the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film and wished the series was based on that. The interesting "realistic" gritty setting was dropped for a more faithful translation of the game's more fantastic lore.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Especially for a YouTube web series. Cyrax and Sektor take the cake in regards to awesome effects.
  • WTH, Costuming Department?: Sub-Zero wears black biker gear in the second season. It doesn't fit the character and doesn't make a lot of sense even in context, especially when Scorpion's outfit when they fight is much more reminiscent of what he usually wears. It doesn't help that in the first season Sub-Zero has a different outfit that, while also taking liberties from the "classic" designs, was much more appropriate for him.
