Dragon Ball Z Elsewhere is an ongoing fan comic written and drawn by RMK, started in 2003, following the life of Yamcha. It tries to explain his past, how he learned his starting fighting skills, why he did know about Son Gohan and Master Roshi, and his feelings about being the weakest between the Z warriors.
It starts following Yamcha's life from the victory against Cell, and then moving onward, explaining his past mostly through flashbacks.
While the overall tone of the comic is full of jokes, closer to the original DB than to DBZ, there are darker moments, and realistic considerations (for example about the trauma of being stabbed to almost death by the arm of an android).

- All Women Are Lustful: On the planet in the afterlife where heroines train. And there is a reason: they still have their bodies, with all their urges, but they cannot meet any male, but every few centuries or so. So, when they see the two young Goku and Yamcha, well in shape, with their bodies, on their planet...Random Heroine: Gorgeous men! Gorgeous men! Everyone, shave your legs!
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Frieza is embarrassed when King Cold challenges Olibu to a Pec Flex competition, and doubly so when King Cold loses.
- Am I Just a Toy to You?: Lord Maccha's wife realizes she is really just a tool for her lover Kyonshi. With whom she shares a three year old daughter, nonetheless.
- Blatant Lies: Again, on the planet in the afterlife where heroines train. They are all scandalized by the coming of two living and gorgeous men, the fact that they happen to be scantly dressed is just because those are their training uniforms and don't you dare to say otherwise!
- Broken Pedestal: Yunomi, Lord Maccha's daughter, is devastating finding out that her mother had betrayed her father after falling for Kyonshi.
- Cannibalism Superpower: Kyonshi can't naturally change his body anymore as a vampire. While this gives him the benefit of never losing the good shape he reached at the peak of his life —a very good shape, since he is a master on the same tier of Roshi and Shen— this means he can't improve with training. But there are other means for vampires/sorcerers to make their body stronger...
- Can't Catch Up: One of the inner demons of Yamcha is this, toward Goku. It is expressed beautifully in some bottom panels during sparring between the two in the afterlife. Eventually, he manages to "catch up", to some extent, since he forces Goku to transform in Super Saiyan to surpass him. That is as much as he could hope for.
- Catapult Nightmare: Yamcha has one, when he dreams of the time C20 almost killed him, and wakes up jumping, sweating and with the hands on his chest.
- Celestial Bureaucracy: The Other World bureaucracy is...less than efficient. The Big Bad is released due to a bureaucratic screw-up, while another screw-up allows Dr. Gero to keep the enhancements he had when he was alive. North Kai is particularly incensed about the latter one.
- Comically Missing the Point: On the aforementioned planet in the afterlife where dead heroines train, without seeing a male for century, and therefore horny as hell, Gorga, their leader, declares that Goku and Yamcha might stay only if they beat the ladies in a fight. Apparently the ladies were only trying to find an excuse to wrestle with a hot male, but they fight Goku and Goku, being Goku, remains completely oblivious and instead points out that if they all aim for the groin, they become too predictable and easy to defeat.
- Confidence Sabotage: What C20 does to Yamcha. It is debatable if it was willing sabotage or a matter-of-fact remark. The initial effect on Yamcha is the same, though.C20: This is your nature. You excel and you still lose. Nothing is different.
- Continuity Nod: Plenty. From explaining why Yamcha knew about Roshi and Son Gohan; to reply to the question "why they don't ask Shenron to become stronger?" (they actually do, since they ask to gain the Saiyan zenkai ability —which they call simply "recovering power"— which is the most they can do while remaining human); to "why Cell, Frieza and Cold had their bodies in the afterlife?" and more.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Why Yamcha was living as a bandit all alone? Why he did know about Son Gohan? How did he learn his signature move? Who was still strong enough to scar his face after he trained under Karin? Well, he trained under the master of the Martial Arts Wolf School, who got killed by the master of the Snake School during a treacherous attack. He then was overpowered by one of the latter's minions and offered a chance to run away. He does so out of self-preservation but lives in shame for the rest of his life.
- Determinator: What Yamcha tries to be after the Cell's saga. Goku is also this when he fights Heiwa, and actually leaves Heiwa bloody and injured after their fight, but he ultimately loses.
- Face Your Fears: Yamcha is chosen by Ashrin, the sealed son of a Kaioshin, to become his vessel because of his strength. However, Yamcha can't tap into Ashrin's power nor receive training for him because he's subconsciously repressing him out of an inferiority complex. Consequently, Yamcha is told to face his inner demons — his sense of worthlessness, his trauma over nearly dying at Gero's hands, and his awkwardness around (fear of) women.
- Failure Hero: What he realizes to be between the Z warriors. At some point he clearly notes that, while he had his share of minor victories, when there was an important fight, he always lost it. More and more badly.
- Fan Disservice: Do you remember Olibu, the Earth hero resembling Hercules that Goku meets in the afterlife? Well, his sister sadly looks a lot like him. What makes it a big fan disservice is that we see her after we have seen the other —very good-looking— heroines, so the comparison is jaw-dropping.
- Fanservice: Some, since it inherits the tone of the original DB.
- In the afterlife, and specially on the planet where the dead heroines train

- Groin Attack: While Yamcha and Goku are sparring, the former uses his Sokidan technique (guided ki blasts) to sneak attack the latter. When he tries targeting Goku's chin, however, he miscalculates and ends up hitting Goku's crotch at full force.
- Loophole Abuse: Heiwa's seal can only be broken when warriors from all four styles are present (turtle, crane, wolf, and snake). It doesn't have to be one for each styles exactly, as the presence of Kyonshi (snake), Yamcha (wolf and turtle), and Barracks (wolf and crane) were at his seal.
- My Fist Forgives You: Goku does this to Yamcha as payback for Yamcha accidentally hitting him in the nuts with the Spirit Ball during their training.
- Mythology Gag: One of Yamcha's most infamous moments in the original Dragon Ball manga was when he got hit in the crotch by Kami, who was disguised as the Obfuscating Stupidity Hero. That same battle was the one where Yamcha first used the Spirit Ball. In this comic, Yamcha accidentally hits Goku in the crotch with the Spirit Ball when they're training in the Outer World.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Kyonshi. He is the master of the Serpent style -which, we learn, is one of the four main style with Turtle (masters: Roshi, Gohan and Ox), Crane (master: Shen) and Wolf (master: Maccha)-, he is a vampire, and he is a sorcerer/warlock too. Anyway, if we remember that Roshi had a very large set of strange skills -including hypnosis- and was himself brother of a witch, it makes sense in the context.
- Not Afraid of You Anymore: Yamcha against Kyonshi, the master of the Serpent style and the Big Bad of his young years.
- Not Helping Your Case: Played for Laughs. Yamcha gets annoyed about being called a ladies man and doesnt get why he's called that. Krillin points out that while he's not a playboy, he's certainly has the image of a ladies man when he hangs around the likes of Yunomi and Solace.
- Pec Flex: King Cold challenges Olibu to a showdown, offering to surrender if he wins but enabling the villains trapped in Hell to go free if Cold wins. Everybody thinks that this will be a straight fight, but it's actually a ritual "combat" of both participants doing the best muscle man poses they can. All the other heroes and villains just watch in awkward silence except for Frieza, who's mortified when King Cold loses.
- Suddenly Shouting: North Kai does this when he learns that a bureaucratic foul-up led to Dr. Gero keeping his android enhancements in the afterlife.
- Took a Level in Badass: When compared to his old friends and fellows, who probably have become stronger, but are still on the human side of the spectrum, Yamcha with his superhuman skills, decisely appears as to have taken one level in badass. Or two levels. Or three. So many levels that he one shots Kyonshi, who is the same tier as the likes of master Roshi and Shen, and his old friend Barrack compares Yamcha to a demi-god.
- Training from Hell: Yamcha tries to undergone one of this, using a gravity chamber up to 400G (and ending up in hospital, the first time) and entering the Room of Spirit and Time. According to him he has become probably stronger than Krilin (mostly, because he guesses Krilin has stopped training since he married C18) and maybe even stronger than Ten-Shi-Nan. He anyway realizes that, no matter the training, the human body has limits (the aforementioned 400G) that the Saiyan can easily surpass.
- Weak, but Skilled: With no human transformation, Yamcha focused on learning Kaioken then mastering it with his gravity training. In a fight with Goku, Yamcha showed his Kaioken Kamehameha x40, forcing Goku to go Super Saiyan (a 50x multiplier) to withstand the attack. Even then, Yamcha outright says he can't beat a Super Saiyan. He also loses a sparring match against Piccolo when they train together.
- The Worf Effect: The Big Bad of the manga does this to Goku as a means of illustrating just how powerful he is.
- World of Action Girls: A literal one, in the afterlife. Heroines train on a separated planet, because, when they trained together with males, neither males nor females were training at their best and both were easily distracted.
- Worthy Opponent: Goku, according to Heiwa. Yamcha, instead? Not so much.
