Legend of Ace is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena made by Still Gaming Company (not to be confused with Lee "Still Gaming" Davidge), released at September 24th, 2018. It's a MOBA which features heroes inspired by mythological and historical figures as they fight in a 5 vs 5 format.

For the most part, plot and world-building are ignored. But in order to differentiate with the other games in the same genre, this game has a few original features.

In this game, there is no traditional item-buying. Instead, a hero is given a card set that they can claim once they reach certain levels, which will give them benefits. Of course, unless they set it to 'Auto-claim', the player can instead try to utilize another card. Each hero also has their own unique cards that can only be used by specific heroes. While this may sound like the Talent system from Heroes of the Storm, Legend of Ace does not have the shared level system, therefore a single well-performing carry hero can still carry their own weak team should they get fed enough. Each hero also has unique modifiers in their own normal attacks rather than being put inside a skill or passive.

On the other side of the coin, this game also provides microtransactions for unique things. While a good player can still win their games with minimum spending, the players can use real life money to buy the in-game currencies to be used to buy locked cards to further empower their heroes. It is technically possible to gather up these resources without paying money, but not only can they only be gained by viewing ads and you only have 10 chances per day, you only get a measly 10 resources per acquisition when a hero costs at most 2000+. There's also a lucky draw system which is cheaper, but it goes more to a gacha territory.

Despite its glaring problems, Legend of Ace still continues to stand and improve themselves from a foundation level. It also helps that the locked cards are not that meta or breaking the game, therefore a player can still thrive without the locked cards. After all, the idea of a mini-Smite is too good to pass up for the mobile gamers.

Tropes associated with this game

  • Bribing Your Way to Victory: Downplayed. If you want to play the game normally, it's perfectly playable even if unlocking can be a slog due to the low money generation. However, if you want any hopes to get the locked cards or certain heroes (Zhuge Liang, Elros, Tyche, Brynhild), then you should prepare a credit card or a very long slog.
  • Dracula: In this game, the resident 'vampire/bloodsucker' hero is not just any new identity; it's actually Dracula himself (with a small tweak on his history as Vlad III Tepes and a prettier look).
  • Et Tu, Brute?: From his quotes, Arthur seems to be rather hurt by the betrayal of (the currently unseen) Lancelot (having an affair with the queen behind Arthur's back).
  • Fantasy Kitchen Sink: Knights, gods, creatures from various mythologies, ninjas, British serial killers, and many more all gather in this realm for continuous slugfest.
  • Fight Like a Card Player: The cards are meant to evoke Trading Card Game. Therefore, the game is boasted as a combination of MOBA and Trading Card Game.
  • Gender Flip: One of the playable heroes is Van Helsing, but as a female. Her name is Vail Helsing.
  • Historical Beauty Update: Dracula (or Vlad III) usually is portrayed as a middle-aged man at best. In this game, he's portrayed as a handsome Pretty Boy, a portrayal usually reserved for his possible son.
  • Historical Domain Character: In between the more well-known historical domain characters and mythological characters (such as King Arthur, Joan of Arc, Cleopatra, Hattori Masanari, Heracles, Zeus, Poseidon, Demeter, Odin, Brynhild, Tyr, etc), the game also provides several niche historical/mythological character (such as (Nakano) Takeko, (Annie) Oakley, Yim Wing Chun, Ogier the Dane, etc)
  • Magikarp Power: Brynhild puts a unique spin on it. While decent on her own, her ultimate does nothing until around 10 minutes in. Therefore, for 10 minutes, she's stuck with just two basic offensive skills without an ultimate. Once 10 minutes pass, she can enter God form, get a boost of stats, improvement on her skills, and an ultimate attack that deals considerable damage.
  • Monkey King Lite: Averted. As this is more of a typical crossover with less world-building, the Sun Wukong here is most likely the real deal.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Tyche is a blatant example of this. She's half-naked, runs the casino of the game, speaks and acts in a very sultry manner.
  • Ninja: The game features two, and based on historical ninjas as well: Hattori Masanari (based on Hattori Hanzō) and Mochizuki (based on Mochizuki Chiyome).
  • No Plot? No Problem!: There's not even an Excuse Plot surrounding this game, it's just 'a bunch of historical/mythological figures and a few original characters are lumped in a battle arena, now go fight'. As this is a MOBA, it doesn't pose much of a problem.
  • Sadly Mythtaken:
    • Hestia as a Fire Goddess. While it's true that she has domain over warmth of home due to being the Goddess of Hearth, it's not that often that it's translated as Hestia being a fire master akin to Hindu's Agni.
    • Daphne is an actual goddess of laurels in Greek mythology. But she somehow speaks in complete Sanskrit.
  • Valkyries: This game's token Valkyrie hero is surprisingly not Freya like in other games, but instead the 'shieldmaiden' Brynhild.
  • You Will Not Evade Me: Aside from the traditional take, there are some variations.
    • Flora is the classic 'hero with drag' skill based on Pudge. And she'll make sure you stay in her garden full of damaging flowers.
    • Hattori Masanari not only can pull himself towards his target, he can also outright blink to the back of his target twice. And his ultimate reveals everyone's position and he can do yet another blink strike (And each strike on the back deals double damage). In other words, if Hattori Masanari wants you dead, then he'll make sure you don't evade him by sticking himself to you.
    • Minotaur has a similar 'pulling himself to the target'. However, rather than killing, he specializes in slowing you down and being a Stone Wall that he can't be killed and you just wait until his allies catch up.
