Trivia / Star★Twinkle Pretty Cure

Go To

  • Acting for Two: In the series so far, four of the princesses have the same voice actress as a character in the series. As an added twist, said character usually has a role in the episode their respective Princess is rescued in.
  • Ascended Fanon: One of the most popular Fan Translations for Hikaru’s catchphrase ‪‪Kirayaba‬ was “Twincool,” which first appeared in fansubs before being made official in merchandise from the Pretty Cure Pretty Store.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor: Hikaru and Cancer are voiced by Eimi Naruse (aka "Eitaso") a member of the idol group Dempagumi.inc, while idol Sumire Uesaka is Cure Cosmo.
  • Completely Different Title: In the Albanian dub, the series is known as Beautiful Warriors: The Glory of Stars.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Kōki Miyata, who voices the female Olifio, is male.
  • Enforced Method Acting: During Konomi Kohara’s talk with Eimi Naruse on the former’s radio show, they mention that the scene in the penultimate episode where Hikaru and Lala say their goodbyes to each other moved them to tears while recording, and the raw emotion they conveyed in their performances resulted in the staff opting to do no other takes of the scene and just use the first one.
  • Executive Meddling: Isao Murayama intended for this season to more heavily resemble Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure, which he also served as the series coordinator for, but added Elena and Madoka when Toei asked for something different. Elena in particular was the brainchild of producer Akari Yanagawa’s intent to focus on promoting diversity.
  • Meaningful Release Date:
    • Episode 14, which focuses on Elena’s Mexican-Japanese family, premiered on Cinco de Mayo.
    • Episode 22 premiered on July 7th, and it was likely no coincidence the episode itself was that date in-series.
  • One-Take Wonder: The scene in the penultimate episode where Hikaru and Lala say their goodbyes to each other was only done in one take, even though the voice actresses asked if another take was needed. This is because the scene itself was so emotional (and had some Reality Subtext to amp it up) that the tears coming from the characters were genuine from the actresses.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • As evidenced by her detailed answers in a pre-series interview, Hikaru’s voice actress Eimi Naruse is a massive fan of the entire Pretty Cure franchise and could talk about every season for hours. She has continued to express her love of Pretty Cure on social media during and after the season’s broadcast run.
    • The voice actress for the Gemini Star Princess and the twins Takuto & Ikuto—Yorita Natsu—is also a Pretty Cure fan, though this would not be made apparent until she was cast in the next season and mentioned it in an interview.
  • Reality Subtext: As mentioned under One-Take Wonder, the tears in the goodbye scene between Hikaru and Lala were not only elicited by the scene itself, but also by the knowledge that it was almost time for the cast to say goodbye to each other now with production wrapping up and no longer letting them meet regularly after working together for a year.
  • Recycled Script: The Big Bad is a god who believes Humans Are Bastards in contrast to their fellow deities who thinks it's important to take inaction so that mortals can freely grow and flourish at their own accord. They then rebelled against their fellow gods in order to enact a plan that will ensure total genocide of all mortals so that the universe can be reconstructed to their twisted image of what a perfect universe is. Now, are we talking about the Star Princess Ophiuchus or Zamasu?

  • You Sound Familiar:
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In an interview with Animage magazine, series coordinator Isao Murayama mentioned that he planned for Star☆Twinkle to more similar to his previous work Maho Girls than it ended up being. Elena and Madoka were not part of his original plans for the series, but were added at Toei’s request.
    • The Animage interview from January 2020 revealed that one of the producers from ABC Animation felt Hikaru’s name was "too strong" and wanted to change it to Akari, after Toei’s producer Akari Yanagawa.
  • Word of God:
    • The July 2019 issue of Animage revealed a few details about Yuni’s development behind the scenes:
      • Yuni was originally conceptualized as an alien cat. Her idol and phantom thief personas were spun off from that initial premise.
      • The alias Blue Cat was chosen to evoke the image of a thief, and her glasses and hat as Blue Cat were intended to be a simple way for kids to imitate her and play along, while the name Cure Cosmo was chosen because they felt it invoked the kind of strength a Sixth Ranger Cure is expected to have.
      • The phantom thief aspect of Yuni was primarily pushed by the female staff of the show, with producer Akari Yanagawa wanting Yuni to be a cool, independent woman styled after Fujiko Mine from Lupin III.
  • Write What You Know: The season’s heavy focus on themes of diversity was a conscious decision by producer Akari Yanagawa, who went to elementary school in the United States and got to watch cartoons with characters of different skin colors, hence Elena’s design and concept being based on her experiences growing up.
