Trivia / Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders

Go To

  • Creator's Oddball: This is the only family friendly DC movie that James Tucker worked on. However, he did work on plenty of family friendly shows (most notably Batman: The Brave and the Bold).
  • The Danza: Jim Ward as Commissioner James Gordon.
  • Development Gag: A minor (and subtle) subplot in the movie is Aunt Harriet thinking that Bruce and Dick may be gay, and her attempts to suss that out. This is in reference to the fact that Aunt Harriet was added to the show's cast as a way of putting an end to similar misconceptions about the original comics duo fostered by Frederic Wertham among others.
  • The Other Darrin: Since most of the original show's actors have long passed away, this was bound to happen.
    • Wally Wingert, who admitted to trying to emulate Frank Gorshin (who died in 2005) in the Batman: Arkham Series as The Riddler, fills in for him here. Also counts as Role Reprise.
    • Steven Weber replaces Alan Napier (d. 1988) as Alfred.
    • Thomas Lennon replaces Stafford Repp (d. 1974) as Chief O'Hara.
    • Jeff Bergman replaced Cesar Romero (d. 1994) as The Joker.
    • William Salyers replaces Burgess Meredith (d. 1997) as The Penguin.
    • Lynne Marie Stewart replaces Madge Blake (d. 1969) as Aunt Harriet.
    • Jim Ward replaces Neil Hamilton (d. 1984) as Commissioner Gordon.
    • The "Other Darrin'ing" of Catwoman in the 1960s is lampshaded by having Batman at one point hallucinate the Lee Meriwether version of the character from the 1966 film and the Eartha Kitt version from the third season alongside the Julie Newmar original version. (Both Meriwether and Kitt were "Other Darrins" who stood in for Newmar when scheduling conflicts with other films prevented her from making the movie or appearing in the third season.)
    • For the European French dub, Marc Cassot dubbed Adam West in the 1960s series and passed away just before the film was dubbed. Emmanuel Jacomy (the French voice of DCAU Superman, of all people) replaced him.
    • The Latin American Spanish dub got it worse: Due to Warner Bros.'s policies regarding voice acting in that region, the dub was still made in Venezuela like in previous animated adaptations, while the original live-action show was originally dubbed in Mexico, albeit it can also being explained almost all the voice actors from that dub died or retired. Also, none of the replacing voice cast does an attempt to replicate the voice acting style used in the Mexican dub, for obvious reasons, despite trying really hard.
  • Playing Against Type: Even taking into consideration the tone of the movie and the series, the idea of Jeff Bergman playing the Joker is surprising since he usually voices heroes.
  • Role Reprise: As mentioned above, Adam West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar are back as Batman, Robin, and Catwoman. Fittingly, considering he admitted to trying to emulate Frank Gorshin for the role in the Batman: Arkham Series, Wally Wingert also reprises the role of the Riddler.
