    Season 1
  • Rachel is seen watching Game of Thrones and Full House; she also jokingly calls Dawn 'Khaleesi' (actually justified given Dawn's white-blond hair).
  • Hank and Don made a reference to The Lion King (1994) ("Hakuna Matata").
  • Jason seems to be a fan of the film Escape from New York (1981) as he attempts to use the name Robert Plissken as an alias to enter a bar, which was the real name of Kurt Russell's character Snake Plissken.
  • Apparently Jason is also fan of a British folk rock band called Mumford & Sons, as he calls mockingly a guy 'Mumford', before starting a Bar Brawl.
  • When Kori tells Dick that she is working for the FBI in his hallucinations, she mentions avoiding "the guys in the basement".

    Season 2
  • In a romantic moment, Rose and Jason start to quote a song from West Side Story.
  • When Jason is staring off into the distance in his own room, Rose calls to Jason “Earth To Major Tom”, a shout-out to Space Oddity by David Bowie.
  • At some point, Garfield could be seen sporting a Toei Animation shirt, which is a Japanese animation studio that produced an animated Superman series in 1988.
  • In 2x02, after the training session, Gar and Rachel share some intimate moments and make fun of Dick being obsessed with training as if he was Mr Miyagi himself.
  • In 2x12, Kory and Rachel have heated quarrel, in which Rachel calls Kory 'Truth-Claw', which is a reference to 4th book "In Truth and Claw", of the urban fantasy detective series Mick Oberon.
  • Faddei is a big fan of Daffy Duck, so much he told his own queen to wait for the cartoon to end because he wanted to watch it 'till the end.
  • One of the books read by Gar Logan to Conner is Charles Dickens ' A Tale of Two Cities, the same book read at Bruce Wayne's funeral by Commissioner Jim Gordon at the end of Christopher Nolan 's The Dark Knight Rises.
  • Hank and Dawn trying to settle down in Wyoming is not random, as DC had an Western Anthology comic series which featured a wandering cowboy called Wyoming Kid.
  • In the episode "Fallen", Dick can be seen reading The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann. His entire subplot in this episode is a Shout-Out to the novel’s protagonist, Hans Castorp. Their parents died when they were children and both can be considered unreliable narrators. Throughout the novel it’s clear that events might not be occurring the way that Castorp says they are, while Dick is hallucinating most of the time. Castorp winds up stuck in a sanatorium for 7 years, which is the same amount of time Dick could be facing in prison.
  • Dick's prison mates are native to the fictional south american country of Corto Maltese, an island that appeared for the first time in Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.
