Recap / The Real Ghostbusters Slimer 19 Little Green Sliming Hood

Go To

Slimer is pretending to be a plane while watching one on TV, but Peter turns it off. He tells Slimer he watches too much TV and needs to read instead. Slimer thinks books are boring, but Peter insists, so Slimer picks out Little Red Riding Hood and they go off to read it.

Peter puts Slimer to bed in a shed on top of the firehouse and begins reading the story, but Slimer insists that Peter put him in the story in the place of the protagonist.

In Slimer's imagination, he, as "Little Green Riding Hood", eats his grandma's food and replaces it with lemons from a nearby tree. He then imagines the grandma as this young, wealthy, living woman who doesn't like being described as a grandmother and decides to be "hip".

Then, the Big Bad Wolf shows up, played by Dweeb in a mask, accompanied by the Little Bad Wolf (Elizabeth). Instead of talking to Slimer, the Dweeb-wolf uses a tracking device built into his mask to find the house and get to it before Slimer. Also, instead of eating the grandmother, she leaves to go to a karate lesson.

Slimer enters the house and finds the Big and Little Bad Wolves in the bed disguised as grannies. They go through the "What big ___ you have!" scene, but instead of saying, "All the better to eat you with" when Slimer gets to the teeth, Dweeb reveals that it's actually a mask and gives chase. However, the three of them don't realise that they're not getting anywhere since they're on exercise equipment.

Peter then gets to the hunter (who's represented by himself), but Slimer is too cowardly to image him with a gun and demands Peter tone it down. Peter replaces the gun with a cream pie and tries to throw it at Dweeb, but Slimer eats it and sends Peter away. Dweeb chases Slimer again, but Slimer ties the strings from an exercise machine around Dweeb's waist and catapults him away. Later, the hunter and grandmother return, and she does karate on the Big Bad Wolf, who runs away being bit on the butt by Elizabeth.

Peter ends the story and Slimer then wants him to read more books. Peter agrees to read one more story and starts reading Jack and the Beanstalk, but Slimer again wants the story changed to fit him.

This short provides examples of

  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: Or in this case, grandmother. Slimer is (un)dead but his imaginary grandma looks like she's in her mid-twenties. She even lampshades it by asking, "Do I look like a grandmother?!".
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • This version of the grandma does karate and avoids being eaten by the wolf.
    • Slimer as Little Green Riding Hood actually defeats Dweeb/the Big Bad Wolf himself instead of relying on the hunter.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Peter as the hunter never gets to save the day, unlike the hunter in the actual story.
  • Adaptation Species Change: The Big Bad Wolf is played by Dweeb (a human) and Elizabeth (a domestic dog) in wolf costumes.
  • The Big Bad Wolf: Parodied — Slimer imagines the Big Bad Wolf as Dweeb in a mask.
  • Books vs. Screens: Peter tells Slimer he watches too much TV and should read a book instead (though downplayed, since he also acknowledges that both books and TV are fun).
  • Brick Joke: At the beginning of the story, Slimer picks lemons for his grandma. Later, he feeds them to Dweeb, who cringes at how sour they are.
  • Butt Biter: At the end of the story, Dweeb as the Big Bad Wolf gets bitten on the butt by Elizabeth as the Little Bad Wolf.
  • But You Were There, and You, and You: Slimer imagines himself as Little Red (or Green) Riding Hood, Dweeb as the Big Bad Wolf, and Peter as the hunter.
  • Chekhov's Classroom: At the beginning, the grandmother learns a karate lesson. Towards the end, she uses it to defeat the Big Bad Wolf.
  • Cool Old Lady: The imaginary grandmother decides to act "hip", which she does by dancing.
  • Death by Adaptation: Of a sort — the undead Slimer takes the role of the living Little Red Riding Hood.
  • Decomposite Character: The Big Bad Wolf is turned into himself (Dweeb) and the Little Bad Wolf (Elizabeth).
  • Evil Laugh Turned Coughing Fit: Dweeb as the Big Bad Wolf does an evil laugh, but then starts coughing when he's first introduced.
  • Fractured Fairy Tale: This story takes the plot of Little Red Riding Hood, but casts characters from the show as the characters, leading to a few comedic differences such as the grandmother being "hip" and Slimer eating Grandma's food.
  • Gender Flip: Slimer (a male ghost) takes the role of Little Red Riding Hood (a little girl).
  • "Getting Ready for Bed" Plot: The short is about Peter reading to Slimer before bedtime.
  • Giant Food: One of the imaginary lemons is humongous.
  • Happily Ever After: Peter ends the story with "and they all lived happily ever after".
  • Harmless Lady Disguise: Dweeb as the Big Bad Wolf disguises himself as the grandmother so Slimer wouldn't suspect him. Justified, since he's disguised as a specific lady who Slimer trusts.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end, Slimer demands another story.
  • Idiot Ball: Perhaps justified since it's in Slimer's imagination, but he, Dweeb, and Elizabeth don't realise they're not moving since they're on exercycles.
  • Impact Silhouette: When catapulted out of the house, Dweeb leaves a person-shaped hole in the wall.
  • A Lesson Learned Too Well: Slimer learns to appreciate books... but now wants a whole stack of books read to him. Peter only agrees to read one.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Elizabeth is meant to be the Little Bad Wolf, but she never does anything worse than chase Slimer, and she ends up biting Dweeb/the Big Bad Wolf.
  • Mythology Gag: Peter calls Slimer by his "spud" nickname from the movie.
  • Never Mess with Granny: The imaginary grandmother does karate.
  • Out-of-Character Moment:
    • Slimer says, "Ugh, books are boring!", despite previously greatly enjoying one in "Once Upon a Slime".
    • He's also too nervous to listen to a story with guns in it, despite usually liking to watch the Ghostbusters fighting.
  • Pacified Adaptation: Invoked — Slimer is too nervous to accept a story with guns in it, so Peter replaces the gun with a cream pie.
  • Pie in the Face: Defied in the story — Peter as the hunter goes to throw the cream pie at Dweeb, but Slimer eats it before it can hit him.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: The line "All the better to eat you with" is changed, because eating a ghost would probably be impossible.
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: Peter gets frustrated with Slimer asking him to change the story and says, "Whose story is this anyway?!". Slimer responds, "Mine!".
  • Sassy Black Woman: The imaginary grandma is black, and she gripes about it being "the worst casting [she's] ever heard".
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Instead of being killed, Dweeb as the Big Bad Wolf is launched away and beat up.
  • Storybook Episode: This episode puts the cast into the roles of Little Red Riding Hood.
  • Walk Like an Egyptian: When the woman says she'll be "the hippest grandmother you ever saw", she walks off moving her arms like an ancient Egyptian mural.
