Recap / SCP Foundation Nexuses

Go To

Nexuses that have a canon tag should go on the canons page.

In the world of the SCP Foundation, there exist several anomalous locations that are classified as nexuses. A nexus is defined as a location with a permanent population that is host to anomalies that are confined to that location and are built around a specific theme. A nexus is a separate classification from an SCP, although some locations have both a Nexus and SCP classification. Nexuses are classified on a scale from Briar to Dunwich depending on the level of anomalous activity. At the bottom are relatively normal locations that have higher than normal anomalous activity, and at the top are places that are completely out of the ordinary. A few Nexuses are classified as Free Ports, which are locations where the anomalous is not a secret and the Foundation is restricted from interfering and become gathering places for all kinds of people who know of the anomalous. Some are actually located on Earth in isolated places while others are in separate dimensions. Overall, the main reason for their continued existence is due to the fact that, in and of themselves, the Foundation all but acknowledges that they are functioning societies or at the very least part of one, and that allowing them to exist is preferable to the fiasco that may occur should they actively attempt to contain or neutralize them.

The hub for Nexeses on the English SCP website is located here. More locations of interest from other version of the SCP website can be found here.

List of Nexuses

  • Nx-01 - The Wanderer's Library - An extradimensional library containing stories from all universes, and the setting of The Wanderer's Library. See also The Serpents Hand, Groups of Interest.
  • Nx-03 - Hy-Brasil - An island of the coast of Ireland inhabited by Children of Sidhe. See the War on all Fronts canon.
  • Nx-17 - Boring, Oregon, USA - A small town in the United States and birthplace of Wilson's Wildlife Solutions

  • Nx-37 - Daleport, New England, USA
  • Nx-64 - Mujin, South Jeolla, South Korea
  • FP-01 - Three Portlands - An extradimensional space that connects to Portland, Maine; Portland, Oregon; and Portland, England.
  • FP-02 - Backdoor SoHo, an extradimensional space in New York City that's home to a large commune of anomalous artists.
  • FP-03 - Eurtec
  • FP-04 - La Rue Macabre
  • FP-120 - Esterberg

Tropes that apply to Nexuses as a whole:

  • Broken Masquerade: Unlike the rest of the Foundation's universe, most people in any given Nexus know that the Foundation exists in some capacity, but the degree of awareness varies from place to place; citizens of Sloth's Pit just refer to them as the "Plastics People", while Three Portlands outright calls them "Skippers".
  • Central Theme: Some articles state that all Nexuses have a quantifiable "theme" at their center, but this isn't always supported; Sloth's Pit has the theme of "Narrative", while SCP-5352, formerly Murky Lake, New Mexico, has the theme of 'absence'.
  • Pocket Dimension: Several Nexuses (typically of the Free Port variety) are contained within these.
  • Shout-Out: Each of the five Nexus classes (not counting Free Port) are references to works of literature:
  • Supernatural Hotspot Town: Every Nexus, in some way or another, attracts anomalous phenomena or is itself an anomaly.
  • Urban Fantasy: The most common genre when it comes to writing in Nexuses, outside of the Wanderer's Library.

Individual Nexuses

NX- 37 - Daleport, New England, USA

Nx-37/SCP-1936 - Daleport

Nx-37, given the designation SCP-1936, is the New England town of Daleport. In 1997, the town fell victim to what is presumed to be a highly destructive anomalous event (or a series of highly destructive events over the course of several days). During this time, the Foundation was unable to enter the town or observe any event that occurred therein due to the presence of SCP-1936-1, a gaseous area that covered the whole town. Dimensions of the town’s remaining buildings have become significantly altered and a large number of them have become topologically inconsistent. Investigations report spatial anomalies including rooms that become smaller when they are entered, eventually preventing the occupants from moving, doors that lead to different points at different times of the day and corridors that despite leading to only one location also lead to several different locations. Unlike other Nexuses, no survivors from the anomalous events which affected Daleport have been found within the town proper, but the remains of a large number of Daleport citizens have been recovered. The town itself is now home only to eldritch gods and the ghosts of its people.
  • Alien Geometries: The area of SCP-1936 is filled with spatially anomalous locations that are topologically inconsistent. These include doors that lead to different places at different times and corridors that lead to multiple locations.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: There's all kinds of cosmic horrors with fantastical and unpronounceable names, and then there's the Shredded Cabbage of Misfortune and the Dark God of Lamp-Posts.
  • Body Horror: Some of the recovered remains are drastically mutated:
The body of an older male with both eyes gouged out. A steady stream of ashes pours from the body's eye sockets, nose, mouth and ears without any apparent source.
    • Special mention goes to the Reverend's own body, which has some severe Alien Geometries affecting it, with his last writings indicating some of these were received while he still lived.
i dont know what i am my throat goes somewhere else. my throat goes somewhere else and i do not like where it goes.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: "Those who pledge their allegiance to the Great Victor of Flames are tinted orange, the Great Victor of Frost violet, and the Great Victor of Storms green".
  • Combat Tentacles: One of the entities in Daleport is a creature the size of an adult human with multiple tentacles. One of its tentacles can decapitate a human being in one blow and multiple tentacles can rip a human being to shreds.
  • Cult: The Victory Society, charged with aiding this weird gathering whenever it happens. Subverted, in that they actually hate their gods and want them to kill each other.
  • Did You Just Scam Cthulhu?: The Victory Society's entire reason for existing is to summon rival Eldritch Abominations, bind them in a mystic trap, and get them to kill each other.
  • Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: At least two of the eldritch creatures summoned by the ritual are benevolent and actively try to protect the citizens of Daleport and Foundation troops sent into the town. One even writes apologies into the bodies of those killed in the crossfire and creates some form of teleportation gateway that sends the survivors outside the affected area.
  • Eldritch Location: The normal little town of Daleport is transformed into one.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Daleport is the site of a long-standing civil war between several primordial deities, engineered by the Victory Society.
  • Fire, Ice, Lightning: There are three major factions in the battle over Daleport, associated with beings known only as the Great Victor of Fire, the Great Victor of Frost, and the Great Victor of the Storm.
  • Humans Are Insects: "They are so far above us that we are but insects. Accordingly, we shall look as such. In order to gain the forgiveness and favor of the Gods, we must learn to know our place before them."
  • Immune to Bullets: One of the Daleport creatures is a sheet of mobile skin in the shape of a fractal. A number of Foundation personnel and robots armed with firearms opened fire on it with little or no effect.
  • It Has Been an Honor: In a transcript of a speech by Reverend Hawshore, he tells the other members of the Victory Society that it has been an honor to work with them in their attempt to summon and trap the Eldritch Abominations.
  • Kill It with Fire: One of the creatures infesting Daleport is a sheet of mobile skin in the shape of a fractal. It is Immune to Bullets, but a flamethrower severely chars it and renders it incapable of moving.
  • Kill the God: The goal of the Victory Society is to kill as many Lovecraftian gods as possible.
  • Lovecraft Country: Daleport, New England is just your average New England town, currently hosting a giant meet-up between dozens of Eldritch Abominations.
  • Nay-Theist: The Victory Society knows dark and alien gods exist, and wants to get rid of as many as they can.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The Victory Society planned to trap as many horrors as they could inside the town.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: The Victory Society's purpose is to trick rival Eldritch Abominations into killing each other, and making the world less dangerous overall.

    FP- 01 - Three Portlands

FP-01 - Three Portlands, Maine, Oregon, England.

The City of Three Portlands, also called Three Portlands, 3Ports, or simply Portlands is a paranormal city-state and freeport located in a pocket dimension that connects to three cities named Portlands across the united states and united kingdoms.

The city has historically been allowed independence with limited oversight by the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation's Unusual Incidents Unit, and have maintained secrecy from the SCP Foundation until 1970. Despite the obvious abnormal nature of the citystate, however, the Foundation has allowed them to maintain independence, but maintain a presence in the city.

Groups of Interest associated with Three Portlands include Deer College, the Church of Maxwellism, and the Unusual Incidents Unit.

  • Alien Geometries: You can enter Three Portlands in Oregon, exit in Maine, then go back in and return to reality in southern England.
  • Necessarily Evil: The Foundation doesn't like Three Portlands, given the difficulty of keeping an entire city full of paranormal people who regularly interact with the outside world from spilling the beans, but have to tolerate them and only maintain minimal oversight, given that anything more permanent would both sour relationships with the UIU and give the Ethics Committee an aneurysm.
  • The Unmasqued World: Three Portlands is an unusual example in that it is an entire city full of normal people where the paranormal operates as normal. However, the city itself is part of the masquerade, and the UIU and Foundation both maintain the veil keeping it secret.
