Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 4 E 4 An Ed Is Born

Go To

When Eddy gets a package from his brother that's filled with nothing but baby toys, he decides to create a home movie to send him to show how big he got. As usual, Hilarity Ensues.

Examples:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Rolf reaches his Rage Breaking Point at the end of the episode due to Eddy (accidentally) vandalizing his face, stealing his chickens for a second time, and believing they were trying to steal his soul with their "film box".
  • Blatant Lies: Eddy tries to make the documentary about him as inaccurate and exaggerated as possible in order to impress his brother which hilariously fails.
  • Book Ends: The episode begins with Rolf sniffing the ground, looking for his stolen chickens and finding them having been stolen by Ed. The final scene has Rolf entering Eddy's room sniffing the ground again, discovering that the Eds have stolen his chickens again and attacking them while demanding they return his chickens.
  • Buried Alive: A Played for Laughs variation. While filming, Jonny steals the Eds' camera and runs off with it. Eddy is seen pouncing at him and just as he lands on top of him the screen turns to static. When it goes back to normal, we see that Eddy has buried Jonny and Plank in the ground with his head sticking out.
Eddy: He scares the birds away; what can I tell ya? [drops the shovel on Jonny's head as he walks away]
  • Camera Abuse: The camera gets abused in lots of ways, including Sarah punching it out of Edd's hands and Ed swallowing it whole, until it finally runs out of batteries at the end
  • Deadpan Snarker: Edd gets snarky during Eddy's attempts to look like a manly rich man.
Edd: Sorry, Eddy. The "planet baron" story threw me off.
  • Delivery Stork: One appears only on the title card.
  • Eat the Camera: Ed literally eats the camera, forcing Edd to fish it out of his stomach and scold Ed for doing so.
  • Face Doodling: Eddy accidentally writes his name on Rolf's face, thinking he was a cardboard dummy.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Rolf enters Eddy's room sniffing the ground the same way he was in the beginning of the episode when looking for his stolen chickens. Shortly after this it is revealed the Eds have stolen his chickens again and are using them to move cutouts of the kids around to look like they are attending a party Eddy is throwing.
  • Foreshadowing: Two major hints to Eddy’s brother being cruel and abusive are the humiliating baby toys he sent him and Eddy saying, "No more beating up little Eddy!"
  • Found Footage Films: The majority of the episode is presented like this as the Eds film their video.
  • Goo Goo Getup: The crate Eddy's brother sent contain a pacifier, a rattle and a diaper, showing how he still thinks of Eddy as a baby.
  • Human Mail: Eddy's first idea to show his brother how much he's grown is to mail himself to him on the crate he sent. Edd suggests that a letter would be better, which leads to the idea of a video.
  • Humiliation Conga: Eddy goes through one while filming the video, including him being very rich lie exposed by Double D, getting wedgied and dragged along on Kevin's bike, Ed wrapping him around a swing set on Sarah's behalf, getting kicked into a fire hydrant by Nazz, getting kissed by the Kankers and finally getting chased and beaten up by Rolf.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Ed for some reason keeps a video camera in his dryer of all places, which is an insanely dangerous fire hazard.
  • Jitter Cam: Most of the episode is shot this way to give it an amateur feel, with the opening scene being shot normally as a framing device.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: After Edd retrieves the camera and Ed remarks about wanting to see what happened after he ate it, Edd remarks "Let's not and say we did, Ed."
  • The Nose Knows: Rolf uses his nose to track down his chickens twice.
  • Oh, Crap!: Several examples.
    • In the very beginning of the episode, Edd gives this expression when Rolf finds him and Ed playing with the former's chickens. He gets another one mere seconds later when Rolf stops him from explaining himself with a wave of his finger.
    • Eddy does one (again, through expression) when he sees that Kevin, whom he had been insulting on camera, heard every word he said, is right next to him and about to make him pay while hoping Edd is still recording.
    • Edd and Eddy do another one when the Kankers are discovered to be inside the egg boiler.
    • Having once again stolen Rolf's chickens, Edd can only quiver in mortal terror when Rolf comes looking for them again.
    • Ed has one at the end after Rolf throws Eddy across the room and yells out to return his chickens before attacking, prompting Ed to run for it.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Eddy has Ed dress up as Rolf for the movie, with his head cut off from the camera frame. You can still see Ed's clothes peeking out through Rolf's t-shirt. Plus he has the rattle... which Eddy tosses away, and the camera follows it, showing Ed's face, eventually hitting the real Rolf on the head, causing him to chase them with a rake.
Rolf: ED BOY!!! Come back, chicken thief!
    Eds: RUN AWAY!!!!
  • Pet the Dog: When Edd asks Sarah and Jimmy to give "a big smile for Eddy's brother", they comply with his request.
  • Planet Baron: The Trope Namer. In the first scene of his movie, Eddy claims that he is so rich he can buy planets, saying he has already bought Saturn and Pluto. Unfortunately, Double D is so unimpressed by this that he wanders the camera around, accidentally revealing the "money bags" in the background are just garbage bags that Ed is sticking dollar signs on.
Eddy: What the heck are you doing?! Don't film that!
Double D: (sarcastically) Sorry, Eddy; the planet baron story threw me off.
  • Pun: When Ed is dressing trash bags up like bags of money for Eddy.
Ed: Boy, being rich really stinks.
  • Right Behind Me: After insulting Kevin on camera, Eddy turns to see he was there and heard every word. Putting together that it was just for a movie only had him in a "nice try" attitude.
  • Running Gag:
    • Ed playing with the rattle.
    • Rolf coming after the Eds for stealing his chickens.
    • Eddy's attempts to look cool failing miserably.
  • Smug Snake: Eddy thinks he's all that when presenting himself to his brother in the documentary but in reality he can't back up the talk as every attempt ends with him being greatly humiliated.
  • Thief Bag: In his movie, Eddy has what appears to be lots of large money bags behind him. It turns out that Ed was slapping dollar signs on garbage bags.
  • This Is No Time for Knitting: When Eddy is discussing how the movie will be made, Ed is seen going through his dryer, like he's playing around. In reality, he's actually getting a camera, which he keeps in the dryer for some reason.
  • Wedgie: Kevin responds to Eddy's insults by grabbing his boxers, attaching them to the back of his bike, and dragging him around the cul-de-sac.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Eddy calls out Edd for choosing to film a lot of things on camera showing Eddy being rich a lie and him being humiliated and hurt by Kevin, Sarah, Nazz, the Kankers and Rolf.

Your Brother's Got The Picture

Eddy attempts to make a movie to impress his brother, using cutouts of the Kids. Unfortunately, Rolf comes in and Eddy accidentally signs his face. This, along with his chickens being stolen a second time, and accusing Double-D of "stealing his soul with a film box" causes him to "release his rage". As Rolf chases Eddy and Ed around the room, a chicken crashes into Double-D, knocking him down. Just before the camera's battery dies, Double D sums up everything that's happened with a single sentence.

How well does it match the trope?
