Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 4 E 5 One Size Fits Ed

Go To

Airdate: November 15th, 2002

In this episode, Jimmy wishes that he was a superstar and Eddy tries to make Jimmy's wish come true by turning him into a sumo wrestler. Once he successfully does so, Eddy must now find a way to get Jimmy to Japan since, as noted by Double-D, that's the only country where sumo wrestling can be pursued on a professional level.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Balloon Belly: Jimmy swells to absolutely gargantuan proportions after Eddy makes him overeat on peaches and cream. He's such an immobile blob of fat that he can't even walk.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Double D could have just pointed out that sumo wrestling is only done in Japan at any time, but doesn't until after Jimmy has been fattened up because he thinks Eddy will learn something from it. Naturally, he doesn't, and even berates Double D for his silence.
  • Does Not Like Spam: A drink variation—while in traction in Double-D's room (which the sockhead has turned into a makeshift hospital suite), Eddy's revealed to hate tea, which Double-D is forcing him to drink.
  • Epic Fail: In an attempt to get to Japan much quicker, Jimmy and the Eds (minus Double-D) decide to slingshot themselves all the way there using a lamppost. It ends up backfiring HORRIBLY on all three of them when Jimmy ends up stopping mid-air and crashes toward the ground, crushing Ed and Eddy in the process.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: This is pointed out in-universe by Double D. He knew from the start that Eddy's sumo scam never had a chance, due to sumo wrestling being a career exclusive to only Japan and them having no way of actually getting Jimmy there themselves. Instead of learning anything from this like Double D hoped though, Eddy just gets mad at him for knowing it wouldn't work and not telling him, thinking he was laughing at him behind his back.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: When Eddy gives Double-D one last chance to join him, Ed, and Jimmy as they slingshot their way to Japan, Double-D simply tells him to "break a leg." Cue the above Epic Fail and Eddy ends up breaking more than just a leg...
  • Goo Goo Getup: For most of the episode, Jimmy is dressed up in nothing but a diaper as part of his sumo-wrestling training. Partially due to the stereotype that sumo-wrestlers' mawashis look like diapers, but mostly because it amuses Eddy.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Double D should know by now that Eddy doesn't give a damn about learning.
  • Hypocrite: In the end, Eddy (after fattening up Jimmy) tries to proceed with charging Jimmy money for a weight loss clinic.
  • Ignored Aesop: A Central Theme of the episode is Eddy refusing to learn anything in the long-term and only being interested in making money now. He refuses to take notes on Double D's lectures and after he finds out that his sumo scam was doomed from the start he gets mad at Double D for not telling him right away instead of learning something from it. His stubbornness and refusal to learn from his mistakes ends up getting him and Ed hurt by the end of the episode, and the only thing he "learned" turned out to be an idea for a new scam.
  • Intentional Weight Gain: Jimmy eats a lot of peaches and cream so he'll get big enough to be a sumo wrestler. This backfires due to sumo wrestling only being done in Japan.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: It's mixed with blame-shifting, but Eddy is correct that Double D should have told him right away that sumo wrestling is exclusive to Japan.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The slingshot failure is this for Ed and Eddy.
  • Only Sane Man: Double-D's in this position, once again.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Jimmy is Sarah's Morality Pet, but she surprisingly treats him negatively, insulting his dream and calling him a fathead.
    • Ed normally goes along with pretty much everything Eddy says but when Eddy initially offers him the chance to be made into "sumo champ of the world" as part of the scam, Ed, in a rare moment of independent thinking, declines with a Blunt "Nah". Twice.
  • Spoof Aesop: Right after Double D states his disappointment in Eddy for not learning anything, Eddy claims he just learned something after seeing Jimmy exercise. This being that they open up a weight loss clinic for their next scam. Ed states the lesson he learned is that "Eddy is the man with the plan".
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Jimmy had a giant fridge full of peaches and cream even before he was informed Eddy wanted to size him up.
    • Rolf's is meat, and knowing that he keeps a whole shed full of it, Eddy sends Ed to steal it and use that to feed Jimmy so that the latter can achieve becoming sumo-size.
  • Tree Buchet: Eddy, Ed and Jimmy attempt to catapult to Japan with a trebuchet made from a light post. Unfortunately, Jimmy is too heavy and ends up falling on the Eds.
  • Weight Taller: After being fattened up, Jimmy is about ten feet tall as well.
