After Connie starts a rumor, the students of Beebe Bluff Middle School get into an uproar that Skeeter is really a vampire.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop:
    • Don’t jump to conclusions.
    • Don’t spread rumors because they can hurt people.
  • "Awkward Silence" Entrance: The entire cafeteria goes silent when Skeeter walks in because everyone thinks he’s a vampire and they’re all terrified of him.
  • Bat Out of Hell: In Doug’s nightmare, he gets attacked by a swarm of bats, including the bat forms of his friends who have been turned into vampires by Skeeter.
  • Blatant Lies: When Skeeter is finally proven not be a vampire, Roger says he was only pretending to be scared as part of his Halloween costume. Doug and the others don’t buy it.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Doug wakes up from his nightmare screaming and falls out of bed.
  • Circling Birdies: After his nightmare, Doug falls out of bed and hurts himself. When he sits up, stars are circling his head.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Thunder crashes overhead when Doug and Skunky see Skeeter going up to the bell tower with all the bats, a clear sign (according to Connie) that he’s a vampire.
  • Dream Within a Dream: Doug’s first nightmare ends up being this, as he sighs with relief that it was All Just a Dream before two bats with Patti and Skeeter’s faces show up and he wakes up for real.
    Doug: I hate double dreams!
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: The school’s band teacher Mr. Fort takes his job very seriously, to say the least. He even wears a music-themed military jacket.
  • Faint in Shock: Porkchop does this when the Bluffington Vampire scares him in Doug’s opening Imagine Spot.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: While looking through Roger’s bag of anti-vampire equipment, Connie pulls out a pair of his bright green underwear that’s covered with his own face.
Connie: How does this stop vampires?
  • Gossipy Hens: Connie’s latest hobby, and what kicks off the events of the plot, is gossiping.
  • Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: Beebe (as Daphne), in the beginning of the episode, is standing on top of a grave when the ground falls out from under her. She flails in the air for a few seconds before falling.
Beebe: It better be clean down there!
  • Halloween Costume Characterization:
    • Connie’s costume is a big mouth.
    • Ned, Boomer, and Willie’s costume is just one big shirt connecting the three of them, fitting as they’re rarely seen apart.
  • Halloween Episode
  • Holy Burns Evil: Roger and the angry mob try to melt Skeeter with finger crosses. Unsurprisingly, they don’t have any luck.
Roger: Alright, who’s not doing the fingers?
  • Nightmare Sequence: Doug has a nightmare in which he’s too late to save his friends from being bitten by Skeeter the Vampire.
  • Parody Commercial: One for “Vicious Blood Sucking Vampire Cola” to go with the bat chow found in Skeeter’s locker.
Skeeter: I’d rather drink this than bite my best friend!
  • Pivotal Wake Up: Miss Kristal does this in the Imagine Spot the kids have when thinking about who at the middle school could be a vampire.
  • Spoofy-Doo: The episode’s Cold Open has Doug and his friends as the Mystery Inc. gang searching for the Bluffington Vampire in a cemetery with Doug as Shaggy, Porkchop as Scooby, Patti as Velma, Beebe as Daphne, and Chalky as Fred.
    • The background music in this scene is very similar to that of classic Scooby Doo episodes, the Bluffington Vampire looks an awful lot like the Phantom Shadow, and Doug even says Shaggy’s famous line, “Zoinks!”
  • The Talk: Doug asks his dad to tell him about “preternatural phenomenon” and he starts talking about the birds and the bees. Once he realizes Doug is talking about vampires, Phil then corrects himself…talking instead about what happens when two vampires love each other very much.
  • Time for Plan B: In the b-plot, Mr. Fort believes Connie’s rumor that the opposing school’s band has a spy at Beebe Bluff Middle School. In order to defeat his rival, Mr. Fort devises a “plan b” which is revealed to be releasing a literal bee during the band's performance.
  • Torches and Pitchforks: Roger riles up his fellow middle school party guests into an angry mob to stop Skeeter from biting Doug.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Doug isn’t at all concerned when he finds a bloody hook, a monkey’s paw, and an opera CD in Skeeter’s room.
  • Vampire Episode: Doug becomes convinced that his best friend Skeeter is a vampire.
  • Visible Odor: Roger clearly believes that Vampires Hate Garlic, if the odor coming from his mouth when he welcomes Doug to his anti-vampire party is any indication.
