Dorien: Tracey, just because a man winks at me, it doesn't necessarily mean I've slept with him. (Beat) Recently.

The café that Sharon has inherited is going well, and Sharon is in the money and rather full of herself. Tracey doesn't like being dependent on her however, and desires a job. Meanwhile in prison, Chris is being obnoxiously vocal about the thriving business and getting right up the noses of his fellow inmates.

  • The Ace: Gloria manages to completely turn around Sharon's café and make it a success.
  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: Chris' new business goes straight to his head.

    Darryl: How d'y'mean?
    Chris: Well, me 'avin' a business now and you 'avin' sod all.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Sharon rubs Tracey's head after giving her money.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Sharon gives one in response to hearing the price that Marcus charges for his accounting work.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Tracey and Sharon make up, but without Gloria's help in the café, it is sure to become unsuccessful again.
  • Call-Back: Dorien gives Sharon the idea to let Tracey do the café's books after she did the same for the prisoner's wives group back in "Confidence".
  • Cool Old Lady: Gloria seems to be one at first when she helps Sharon make a profit at the café seemingly only out of the goodness of her heart.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Sharon makes up a fake assistant named Craig to make Chris jealous.

    • Chris remarks it's a shame Tracey couldn't keep Darryl's firm running, to which Darryl retorts Tracey isn't good with a shotgun.
    • Dorien worries she hasn't made her mark on the world, but Sharon reassures her:
      Sharon: But you 'ave Dor. Your name's written in loads o' men's toilets.
    • Dorien asks Sharon what Wayne does, to which Sharon responds he's the Belgian Ambassador.
  • Dirty Old Woman: Gloria tells Dorien that if she was her, she would've strumped Wayne until her dentures rattled.
  • The Ditherer: Dorien admits being fickle is one of her problems.
  • Embarrassing Damp Sheets: Sharon mentions she used to wet the bed.
  • Fictional Document: The local paper that Sharon appears in, the Chigwell Gazette.
  • Gasshole: Sharon mentions that after sex with Chris he used to roll over and fart.

  • Hollywood Mid-Life Crisis: It is briefly discussed whether Dorien is having a midlife crisis. However, Tracey comments that that would only be the case if Dorien lived to 150.
  • Invented Invalid: Gloria lies her sister is an invalid, but in reality is in prison.
  • Karma Houdini: Gloria is fired from the café for stealing, but manages to avoid jail time because she'll grass up Sharon as well.
  • Lazy Bum: Dorien can't be bothered helping Sharon at the café after Gloria is fired.
  • Malicious Misnaming: After Wayne calls Dorien "Deirdre", Sharon picks up the habit to annoy her.

    • At the start of the episode, Tracey reminisces about a lovely holiday she and Darryl took to Portugal.
    • Dorien was once outraged by a flasher who dressed better than her.
    • Sharon has ended up in the local paper's court reports several times.

  • One-Shot Character: Gloria and Wayne.
  • One-Steve Limit: Gloria is the name of Sharon's new assistant, and was previously the name of a plumber in "Getting a Grip".
  • One-Word Title: The title of the episode is "Breadwinner".
  • Overly Long Name: Sharon notes that she didn't name her café after her and Chris' surname because she didn't have enough room to put the whole name on.
  • The Reveal: The only reason Gloria put so much effort in at the café was because she was robbing Sharon blind of stock and money from the till.

  • Status Quo Is God: Gloria helps turn Sharon's Café into a success but is then fired leaving things to go back to the way they were.

    • After Darryl mentions that he's never seen a couple argue like Sharon and Chris, he then asks Tracey if they're part of the The British Royal Family.
    • Sharon laughs at the size of Dawn French's jacksie.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Dorien compliments Sharon for her café's success without any snark or sass.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: Wayne's plans for the evening with Dorien are so erotic that even she briefly becomes overly flustered. She still wants to go through with it though.
