BANG! is an Action Web Serial Novel series, with a little bit of Science Fantasy and Cyberpunk, written by an anonymous author and published on DeviantArt.
In the distant future of 7529 set in a World of Funny Animals, a group of scientists, in orders of an anonymous client, build a Person of Mass Destruction, Weapon the Robot Cat. One of them, Gerry Rabbaeu the rabbit, knowing how much destruction he can, decides to contain him in stasis for the greater good so that he cannot be used to end the world.
Fast forward to 30 years later in 7559. The lab has since been abandoned, and two of Gerry's children Rogan and Jessica search it in the hunt for their father. They come across Weapon's containment pod and accidentally open it, awakening Weapon to the world. Weapon finds out that in the last 15 years, a Corrupt Corporate Executive Impress the Wolf, former friend of Gerry, has taken over and destroyed the entire world with the army she built. Rogan and Jessica are part of the Resistance, a secret group trying to defeat and overthrow Impress.
Weapon is offered to join the Resistance. Though he declines at first, not wanting to be used for mass destruction like Gerry promised, he then sees it as an opportunity to protect others. Weapon then joins on the mission to stop Impress and restore the world back to normal.
The series has been taken down from online by the author for unknown reasons, but remnants can be read about in the examples below.
BANG! provides examples of:
- After the End: BANG! takes place after the world has been ravaged by Impress, leaving it entirely in ruins.
- Animal Is the New Man: It is revealed a species known as Homo Sapiens, or "humans", used to exist on the world and created most of the technology existing in 7559. They went and all of the other species extinct from climate change and radiation until the little remaining DNA of humans and animal species collided and formed Funny Animals.
- Apocalypse How: Level 1, borderline Level 2. Much of the world is destroyed, yet under control of Impress. The only standing city is Super City, where she lives, and only small pockets of society exist outside. It is revealed a Level 5 happened in the past, in which all of the species, including humans, were wiped out by climate change and radiation.
- Big Bad: Impress the Wolf, a Corrupt Corporate Executive who was responsible for conquering the world in the first place.
- Cigarette of Anxiety: Jessie habitually steps outside and smokes to cope with her trauma of losing her mother Mary, husband Ron, and newborn son Sunny.
- Distant Prologue: The beginning of Chapter 1 takes place 30 years before the main events of BANG!
- Dying Race: The tanukis, after most were wiped out by Impress. Only a few, including Leaf, remain.
- Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Tanukikanto, which is basically Japan with tanukis. In fact, it was once Japan.
- First Time in the Sun: After Impress' defeat, the sun rises and shines through the hole in the dome overshadowing Super City, exposing it to the sunlight for the first time.
- Furry Confusion: Averted, as the only animals are anthropomorphic, with no non-anthropomorphic animals brought up. Justified, as the Funny Animals evolved from fusions of DNA of the long extinct humans and animals.
- The Future: Set in the year 7559 AD.
- Good-Guy Bar: The Under, an underground bar where the Resistance gather.
- Mature Animal Story: Despite being set in a World of Funny Animals, the series is meant for older audiences, with violence, swearing, sex, and alcoholism to go about, and dealings of themes of death and war.
- Meaningful Name: Weapon was created to be a Weapon of Mass Destruction.
- Modern Stasis: Despite being set in the far future, the 7550s depicted here give more of a 20 Minutes into the Future vibe. The culture is reminiscent of The '90s, and there aren't much fantastic elements.
- It is noted VHS tapes were made by "some ancient species thousands of years ago" and "had a resurgence back in the 7530s".
- One-Word Title
- Really Gets Around: Impress has mothered 20 children from 7 fathers.
- The Reveal: Impress was the client who ordered Weapon the Robot Cat.
- Science Fantasy: There are elements of both science fiction and fantasy. We have a Ridiculously Human Robot built as a Person of Mass Destruction, and a magical tanuki with Green Thumb and Transflormation powers.
- Villain World: The world is in control of Impress, the Big Bad.
