Code Prime

The fanfic ends up being a bit too hilarious when it comes to past events...and ends up aging rather well given more recent developments in both franchises.

    open/close all folders

Transformers Earthspark (unmarked spoilers for the fic and the show!)
  • The Autobots and Decepticons are quite a bit bedazzled over the Britannian Royal Family's theme of feuding with one another, scheming to get to the top. Moreso with the Autobots, with Arcee and Wheeljack making prominent remarks about them. How does it fall under this trope? In the first human-centric series since the fic's publishing note , Transformers Earthspark, one of its core themes is family and features a group of well-minded Transformers befriending a human family. They probably won't find it in the Britannians.
    • Adding to the Earthspark discussion, much like Charles and V.V. first encountering Cybertronians via a cavern, the humans of that show would also make first contact with them via a cave.
    • Just the fact that Code Prime's iteration of Megatron is thought to be one of the evilest ones yet, in he comes in this show with a completely contrasting version: he's an Anti-Hero and one who has long retired from being Decepticon leader. Try comparing the casual greeting Dot Malto gives to him ("Megs") with the absolute horror that nearly every single Code Geass character has whenever they hear his name or go under his presence.
    • Revolution reintroduced Dr. Arkeville into the mainline series as a secondary human villain. A year after its publication, Earthspark would later introduce who the showrunners call his Spiritual Successor: the Mandroid. Said character is also characterized by deep-seated Fantastic Racism against Cybetronians, much like the Britannians. To add insult to injury, he too has a case of Moral Myopia, just like pre-Character Development Suzaku.
    • Grimlock's debut chapter begins with the Decepticons, particularly the scientist Shockwave trying to retrieve him in order to hinder the Autobots and Black Knights from getting his assistance; an endeavor that fails in their faces. In Earthspark, the Man-droid actually succeeds in this regard and Grimlock begins the show under mind control from the cyborg scientist.
    • Roger Craig Smith played Guilford who, by the end of R1 is severely injured after battling the Insecticons; a few moments earlier, he and Darlton assisted Optimus, Tohdoh, and the Holy Swords against them in order to buy time for the rest of the Autobots and Black Knights to escape. Earthspark would see him play a Decepticon who finds himself in a very similar position: assisting the Autobots in an escape from their somewhat perilous situation despite their allegiances. Adding to the hilarity is the character he played: Breakdown, who died in the fic before the Decepticons broadcasted their victory over Britannia.
    • Kari Wahlgren played Marianne vi Britannia, looked up to as a mother figure to Lelouch but is secretly in cahoots with Charles regarding Ragnarok, though she does hold a position in the Britannian Empire. In Earthspark, Wahlgren plays Agent Croft, a high-ranking member of G.H.O.S.T. who is later revealed to be working with the Big Bad's plan, not unlike Marianne herself. Croft even has a brother of her own, though she sees him as nothing more than means to an end; something both Marianne and Charles see in their children. Adding to the hilarity is that the fic has Marianne pull a Heel–Face Turn in a chapter released in a very close timeframe with the second half of Earthspark, the segment where Croft's true motives are made clear.
    • Troy Baker plays Schneizel el Britannia, and the kicker comes in when he plays Shockwave in Earthspark. In Demon and Dragon Cometh, Scheizel is killed by a Rust Plague engineered by Shockwave himself. He would essentially play the character who killed his other character by proxy.

     Code Geass: Genesic RE;Code
  • The mobile game would introduce an actual Code Bearer named R.R., making Cliffjumper's R2-D2 joke age by half as well.
  • In this fanfic, V.V. betrays Charles at the end of R1 because Megatron "persuaded" him. The mobile game Genesic RE:code would reveal that V.V. was indeed planning on betraying Charles, because of his jealousy to how close Charles was to Marianne, which was also part of his motivations in the story as well.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury (unmarked spoilers for the fic and the show!)
Ichirō Ōkouchi's main Gundam work has a lot of similarities to Code Geass, so there would naturally be several comparable scenarios to Code Prime. Just the fact that the Geass Order's Irregulars don Knightmares based onMobile Suit Gundam Wing's mechs, in comes Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, the first Gundam series published during the fanfic's publication period (albeit very late into it), making a handful of things in this fic age well. Not to mention the lead writer of that series is the same writer of Code Geass.
  • For a bit of Heartwarming in Hindsight added in, imagine the theme song of Witch From Mercury from Optimus Prime's perspective towards Lelouch.
    • Even better, one of the lyrics ("Even the cursed future can be written by your hands") can subtly nod to the fanfic's Fix Fic nature, considering by R2 things are clearly looking up for the world of Code Geass after the war.
  • While Code Prime is still being written, the next fanfic series that Iron117Prime publishes is named J-WITCH. The Fan Nickname of Witch From Mercury is "G-Witch".
  • The prologue of the story, which introduces Charles zi Britannia and V.V. instead of the Code Geass protagonists, becomes this when the prologue of Witch From Mercury is actually the origin story of the series' antagonists as well; it just hid the fact and deceived the viewer into thinking it was Suletta's origin story.
  • The Decepticons are notable for looking down upon humanity due to their constant squabbles; in some ways a breed of racism. While Fantastic Racism is a common theme in Gundam stories, Witch From Mercury pulls off something of a similar vein to the above when it features Spacians (aliens not of Earth) oppressing Earthians.
    • If one reads between the lines, the Autobot-Decepticon conflict has similar shades of this, with the oppressors (the Decepticons and the Britannians they initially aid) being situated in the moon and the oppressed (the Black Knights and Autobots) being situated in the deepest regions of the Earth.
  • Alice piloting a Knightmare that resembles the Wing Gundam and having shades of Les Yay with Nunnally become this as Witch From Mercury's primary draw is the relationship between Suletta (main Gundam protagonist) and Miorine.
  • Kallen has shades of being a Char Aznable Expy in the original series (being The Rival to the white mech's pilot Suzaku), so when she talks with Ayano Kosaka in R2 and comments how she's almost just like her, it becomes hilarious when Ayano's English VA would end up voicing Witch From Mercury's Char Expy.
    • Kallen calling out Ayano for her behavior also goes into this territory when said Char Expy, Prospera Mercury, winds up being on the receiving end of this by Miorine, being called out for her treatment of Suletta.
  • A seemingly undefeated pilot who gets their ass handed to them by people hailing from space (in a duel nonetheless against the primary mascot mecha), donning pink-ish mecha and going through a Break the Haughty character arc, culminating in a somewhat proper Heel–Face Turn? Are we talking about Cornelia or Guel Jeturk? Though at very least, Cornelia isn't abusive to Euphie at all (the one time she hits Euphie actually did unsettle her) and she didn't lose everything exactly; merely her pride got damaged and she still maintains a good amount of authority even when Megatron demoted her.
    • The fanfic loves to tease the Kallen/Lelouch ship, so it becomes hilarious when Witch From Mercury attempts to invoke a similar relationship between rival character Guel and series lead Suletta...but then takes a hilarious turn when Suletta immediately turns down Guel's proposal.
    • Overlaps with Harsher in Hindsight concerning their relationship with their siblings. Despite Cornelia and Euphie's disagreement over their handling of the conflict between Britannia and the Black Knights, they manage to get over it and reconcile their relationship by the end of the story. It was a simple slap...and not the straight-up murder attempt from Guel's own sibling Lauda Neill.
  • Cliffjumper recalls that Kallen gave a right hook towards Mrs. Stadtfeld when she tried to stop her from leaving. The fact that Cliffjumper simply recounted this rather than actually being shown the punch becomes this in light of the now-famous Chuchu Punch.
  • A character who acts as the liaison between people of different origins, ends up getting involved in a terrorist group and is often doubted by their respective sides? Are we talking about Euphie or Nika Nanaura?
  • The author turned down the idea of sentient Knightmare Frames due to the fact that Sakuradite in the story is the same as Energon. Then he leaned towards it a bit using Cybertronian protoforms as the final mech upgrades for the main Black Knight cast. That Gundam show ends up having its main Mobile Suit being somewhat sentient as well.
    • Adding to this development, Code Prime features the Dark Excalibur being piloted with Marianne's fighting skills while also being powered by Dark Energon. In essence, Marianne becomes the OS of the Knightmare...not unlike Ericht Samaya becoming embedded in Gundam Aerial's own OS via data storm.
    • Optimus' sacrifice in defending the Black Knights and Autobots from the Damocles, leaving him a wreck, becomes this when Aerial, the main Gundam Suletta pilots for the majority of the show...sacrifices herself in a similar way. One could point out that Optimus' condition and injured look almost resembles the wreck of the Aerial.
  • Predatory has Kallen Kozuki act in a similar role as Jack Darby upon being pursued by Airachnid. Airachnid's personality in the Japanese dub of Prime is infamous for acting like a Yandere towards Jack. The Yandere tendencies combined with her already canonical psychopathic tendencies become this when Witch From Mercury introduces the slightly similar Sophie Pulone, who also goes a bit bloodthirsty towards Suletta and also had a "collection" of her own (stuffed toys for Sophie and carcasses for Airachnid).
  • Botching up peace talks using a False Flag Operation while wearing the guise of a supposed protector figure? It seems like Prospera Mercury took notes from Megatron and the Decepticons when botching up Spacian-Earthian relations, employing a somewhat similar tactic...
    • Prospera's manipulation of Suletta for her own ends is literally a canonized version of Megatron manipulating Suzaku for his own ends. Not to mention Suzaku is of the same archetype as Suletta's character.
  • The show also ends up wrecking the school environment that its main cast spent time in once the third act begins. The perpetrator of that school's destruction, Norea Du Noc, also had a "kill all X" mentality while doing so, much like Nina and her "kill all Decepticons" mindset when trying to launch a nuke. And unlike Ashford's sacker Hardshell, Norea had an air of sympathy rather than just being a simple goon. Not to mention that she was "sent" to destroy the school by Shaddiq, much like how Hardshell and the Insecticons were sent by Megatron.
    • Norea destroys the school using various Gundvolvas, which are essentially sentient mobile suits resembling her core Gundam. Not unlike Hardshell commanding his Insecticon brethren.
    • Overlapping a bit with Harsher in Hindsight, but the fact that Shirley managed to get through Nina despite such mentality becomes a bit harder to watch when Elan#5 attempted to reach out to Norea regarding this similar behavior...and she doesn't make it.
    • Also overlaps with Harsher in Hindsight in that, unlike in the fic, it was a complete surprise attack, and many students are revealed to die or get injured in the crossfire, whereas the Ashford Student Council, the only ones in the scene at the time, escaped unscathed.
  • It's hard not to think of Euphie being utterly broken by the Decepticons botching up her plans for the SAZ when watching Miorine Rembran try to cope up with her plans for using the Gundam for peace being shattered as well. It's also not hard to see the parallels with Suzaku reconciling his flaws with Euphie to Suletta reconciling her actions with Miorine; let's face it, R2's Euphie is essentially post-Character Development Miorine, not to mention having Suzaku's "not running away from my problems" arc added in.
  • Suletta's final Gundam in the series is named Calibarn, both a nod to this fic's Excalibur being the final pure Britannian Knightmare revealed before the empire goes up in flames and the author's future fic, where Sonic's weapon is similarly named to it as well.
  • The fic has Marianne reconcile her love for Lelouch and Nunally despite all of her actions becomes this in the context of Witch From Mercury having Miorine reconciling with Prospera.
  • Euphie nearly falls unconscious and tires out mentally after abusing the Omniglobe to help guide everyone in the battlefield. Is it just her suffering from Omniglobe stress or is she raising her Permet Score?

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (unmarked spoilers for the fic and the film!)
  • At the start of R1, Optimus and the rest of the Autobots are doubtful to being involving humans in their war against the Decepticons largely due to the crossfire that may present itself. The film features an Optimus incarnation that does distrust humanity initially.
    • In the film, Optimus questions Mirage on why he brought Noah in despite his distrust of humans. This harkens towards the Autobots' initial doubts towards involving the rest of humanity in their war throughout the film, moreso with Lelouch due to his existing parallels to Megatron.
  • The use of Prime Arcee predates how the Arcee in this film draws heavily from said animated iteration: a sleek, slightly snarky fem-bot.
  • Lelouch famously donning a more action-oriented version of his Zero outfit becomes this as Noah dons a battlesuit using Mirage's body in the later part of the film.
  • R2's final act features Optimus dropping his iconic "take the battle to them" from Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and he actually says the line again in the film under very similar circumstances.
  • A large, flight-based Autobot drops in a character thought to be inactive for quite some time during what amounts to a climactic battle. Are we talking about Omega Supreme stepping in a dropping the rest of the Dinobots or Stratosphere dropping in Bumblebee during the final leg of the Big Badass Battle Sequence?
  • Simply by the entire premise of the story being the various Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover premises being flipped over become this when the film's stinger reveals the existence of G.I. Joe within the new continuity from Rise of the Beasts onward.

     Others
  • In a particularly memetic example, the opening fight scenes featuring Clovis' forces with the Purebloods battling against not just Kallen's Glasgow but also the Autobots' vehicle modes is exactly the kind of scene people familiar with more recent The Fast and the Furious entries memetically think that franchise is shaping up to become.
  • The statements Lelouch makes back in the Ark that warn the Autobots against attacking Britannia come with the eerie foreshadow of the Decepticons actually doing said deed and succeeding.
  • A later scene has Arcee state that revolutions aren't easy in that one shouldn't just shoot the whole empire down and hope for the best; it's a far cry from earlier in the fanfic where Arcee is one of the Autobots who's more than willing to drop themselves into the Britannian palace to give Charles a piece of their mind due to what they heard from Lelouch.
  • Disunity is a common flaw within the alliance between the Decepticons and Britannia. Not too long after the fanfic was published, the Decepticons would also have this same flaw in another crossover alliance of theirs.
  • Hot Shot working under the Wreckers here comes a tad ten months early of a Hot Shot incarnation's actual tenure in a Wreckers incarnation (2021's Tread and Circuits).
  • Steeljaw has, and maintains, a great role in R2 much like he did in RID 2015. A year after R2 was published, he would once again become a key antagonist in what would become IDW's final tenure in the franchise.
  • Two of Jobby the Hong's toy reviews come off in a slightly hilarious light when reading this fanfic, particularly due to Megatron causing the SAZ Massacre.
    • His review of MP-36 (G1 Megatron) has him wonder if the clone control helmet (bundled with other memorabilia such as the Key to Vector Sigma) was really crucial to his character. With the fanfic homaging the very episode it was included, it pretty much is crucial as it demonstrates just how ruthless he's willing to go with his plans.
    • His review of MP-43 (Beast Wars Megatron) features David Kaye wondering why his figure suddenly speaks like an anime girlnote . In the story, Megatron effectively takes control of an anime girl (Euphemia) to instigate the massacre and kill thousands of people...all without a hint of embarrassment.
  • The entirety of R2's storyline, with the Decepticons, fresh from their purge of Britannia in charge and humanity forced to rely on the recovering Autobots becomes this when Transformers Reactivate got announced, with said game featuring a very similar plot.
  • The fic in general can be seen as a Super Robot-Real Robot hybrid, utilizing strong War Is Hell themes combined with an idealistic tone, especially in the latter half of the series. Then Back Arrow gets released by the same creator as Code Geass, which also falls under the Super Robot/Real Robot hybrid.
  • As the fanfic reaches its endgame, Megatron steals V.V.'s code and becomes immortal. In J-WITCH, the next fic he publishes, he pulls the immortal Big Bad stint again with its Disc-One Final Boss Shendu, and while his stint as a villain only lasts until the end of the first season, he makes up for it by being a Greater-Scope Villain. But no sooner did he pull off a more consistent one with Salem, who starts the fic as a immortal.
  • Guilford, who starts out as an underling of the then-antagonistic Cornelia, and V.V., who is one of the fanfic's prominent antagonists, are played by Roger Craig Smith and Cindy Robinson, respectively. A future fanfic by the same author would later star both of these VA's most heroic roles (with Smith playing the protagonist and Robinson playing the primary female lead of that franchise).
    • V.V. is infamous for harboring intense jealousy with Charles over Marianne vi Britannia, while also periodically stalking Nunnally for a time. He shares the same English VA as Amy Rose, who in RRBW would regret her more yandere-esque advances towards Sonic.
    • Robinson also played Inoue, who was infamous in the fanfic for attempting to rush into Megatron despite the overwhelming strength difference between her and her fellow Black Knight companions at the time, to the point of Optimus warning her to fall back. Considering that they're fighting Megatron, the reader pretty much knows it won't end well. This falls into this trope when, in RRBW, Amy warns Ruby not to fight Metal Sonic, and the Huntress, along with her teammates, still rush through, which ends just like one would expect. In short, Inoue carried over her experience fighting the stronger opponent in another life.
    • And in that same fic, two characters played by Kirk Thornton and Karen Strassman are once again at the main forefront.
  • In this fanfic, Rai is revealed to be the illegitimate child of Charles zi Britannia. The mobile game Lost Stories would reveal that Charles does indeed have an illegitimate child, but it’s actually Monica Krushevsky.
  • In the first chapter, Fixit makes a throwaway line at how Clovis' rather convincing acting might work better if he went into theater business. An actual Code Geass musical just so happens to be produced in 2023, the very same year of R2's conclusion.
