General
- Aiko and Kana's Straight Man and Wise Guy dynamic with each other. It's even reminiscent of a Boke and Tsukkomi Routine at times.
- It's amusing to see Haruka and Kana butt heads with each other, too. The MC describes it perfectly here:
[It felt like Aiko and I were two adults moderating a spat between kids.]
Day One
- Haruka waking the MC up for school.Haruka: Aren't you excited for school?[Player Name]: Why would I be excited about school?Haruka: To show off that big ol' brain of yours! If I was top of the class I'd rub it in everyone's faces! Bow down peasants! Y'know?[Player Name]: People already dislike us enough, Haruka. Maybe play nice with others for once.Haruka: Psh! I'm always nice.[Player Name]: So making people bow is...?Haruka: Kinky? ...I guess you have a point. New year, new me![Player Name]: That's what you said last year when you tried to dye your hair blonde and ended up with a patch missing.Haruka: I said new me! And, new classmates. Ah...! You distracted me! Now we're gonna be late! And me saying we're gonna be late while standing here is making us later! And explaining that made us later, which —[Player Name]: Let's go!
- After the first meeting with the other girls starts off on the wrong foot, Kana and Aiko give us this moment.Kana: That went super awesome.[Player Name]: I'm sorry about Haruka, she's just anxious. She's not usually so...[Words failed me, as Haruka had snapped]Aiko: I should have asked her directly. I was rude.Kana: Nah, you weren't rude. You could've been like — What the fuck is up Kyle, no, what did you say, what the f--Aiko: Kana! We're at school!Aiko: You know what I meant.Kana: Oh, swearing?Aiko: Yes, that!Kana: Why the ffff-frick does it matter?[I watched as Aiko's eye twitched at the corner].
- Haruka making a joke about Minami School (Aiko, Kana, and Yumi's old school that burned down) can be funny if you like Black Comedy.Aiko: Group projects are renowned for their failure rate. Everyone has to be on the same page and want the same things. Not to mention communication.Kana: Yeah, like, if you don't do the work, we have to.Haruka: If we don't do the work?Aiko: Or rather, groups can be unreliable, as everyone has to pull their weight. Kana and I were at the top of our respective classes at Minami.Haruka: I'm gonna bet the class wasn't on fire safety, hm?[Player Name]: Haruka!Haruka: It was a joke! Whatever! This is dumb, we shouldn't have to be in such a big group. Why can't we at least be with our friends?
- Haruka and Kana having a "heated debate" and Aiko not knowing what a furry is.Kana: Why not allow the younger years to have better equipment?Haruka: Let them perish.[Player Name]: Haruka.Haruka: It's not that bad. Perish!!![Player Name]: Stop it.Aiko: Ah, are we getting along now?Kana: Are we?Haruka: I get along with no one. I'm a lone wolf.Kana: Me too!Haruka: We can't both be lone wolves.Yumi (on her notepad): "You're a marshmallow and a ball of lint."Kana: Dibs on marshmallow -Haruka: Di — ugh, I'm not lint!Aiko: If anyone is a lone wolf, it's Yumi.Yumi (on her notepad): "Are you calling me a furry?"Aiko: A — what?Kana: A furry? Aiko, you don't know what a furry is?Aiko: Should I?Haruka: It's like, a dog but a person — y'know?Aiko: I have no idea what you're talking about. A-Anyway![Aiko cleared her throat, desperate to move on.]
- Haruka, Aiko, and Kana bickering in science class.Aiko: I wonder how they'll deliver the lectures.Kana: With talking?Aiko: You know what I meant.Kana:Maybe they'll have extra classes? Or they'll give us videos to watch.Aiko: I hope that isn't the case. I don't like the idea of having to find videos online for lessons. The teachers should be teaching.Haruka: But you can skip the boring parts! Like...all of it. Ooh, or like, on double speed! Y'know, where they talk super fast and you can still understand them but it makes all the pauses way less annoying.Aiko: Being able to skip the pointless anecdotes is useful.Haruka: Or the whole lesson.[Aiko gives Haruka a Disapproving Look]Haruka: N-Not that I'd skip the whole lesson. Not unless it was super boring, like...about...science?Kana: Do you have a double speed button, Haruka?Haruka: Ha, ha, ha, you're so hilarious. I'll speak slower so you can understand me.Kana: Do you not understand what doubling the speed does?Haruka: I know what it does! That was also a joke!Kana: Was it a joke, if no one laughed?Haruka: I'm laughing! Ha, ha, ha![Kana mirrored Haruka's laugh and almost sounded genuine.]
- The MC talking with Yumi is adorable.Yumi: ...[Player Name]: Uh, so, do you like science?[Yumi shook her head.][Player Name]: Any particular reason you don't enjoy it?[Yumi shook her head, again.][Player Name]: Are you shaking your head at everything I say?[Player Name]: Read any good books?[Yumi shrugged. At least that was something new, right?][Player Name]: Watched any shows?[Yumi made a weird face that hardly answered my question][Player Name]: Eaten anything?[Yumi nodded, enthusiastically.]Yumi (on her notepad): "I had some really good teriyaki chicken for breakfast."[Player Name]: B-Breakfast?[....][Player Name]: Killed anyone?Yumi: ...[Player Name]: ...Yumi: ...[Player Name]: You're doing this on purpose, aren't you? You don't wanna waste paper on me, huh?[Yumi broke into laughter, which was more fragmented than I expected. Almost like her laugh was echoing, within itself. She caught herself and her lips shut tight.][She winked and slung a smirk at me, and then her attention fixed back to the window of the classroom.]
Day Two
- Haruka waking the MC up for school again, desperate to think of a plan to change groups.
- Haruka's "apology" to the other girls for how she acted yesterday. It's the second time she's apologized and taken it back immediately, too.Haruka: Hey - so! I'm just like, sorry I guess. Bᴜᴛ I'ᴍ ɴᴏᴛ ᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴛʜᴀᴛ sᴏʀʀʏ, I ᴅɪᴅɴ'ᴛ ᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴅᴏ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ, sᴏ ᴡʜᴀᴛᴇᴠᴇʀ, ᴊᴜsᴛ, I'ᴍ sᴏʀʀʏ, I ɢᴜᴇss, ᴏᴋᴀʏ.Kana: What the heck was that?
- After a particularly strange conversation with Aila in the library, Haruka meeting up with the MC at the school gate brightens the mood.
- Haruka: There you are! I thought you'd died or something![I had to laugh at her hyperbole, even if it felt rough after my conversation with Aila.]Haruka: You'll never guess who I just saw run past.[Player Name]: Hm..?[Player Name]: Oh, Aila.Haruka: Yup.[Haruka popped the 'p' a little too hard, spitting on me in the process. She failed to notice, even as I wiped my face.]Haruka: I never did get why you liked her. I guess she's tall, and pretty, and smart, and smells nice, but like, what else?[I narrowed my eyes at Haruka, who raised her eyebrows.]Haruka: ..What did she want?Haruka: And she couldn't do that here, while you waited for me?[I shrugged, and felt immediate relief when Haruka shrugged it off.]Haruka: I'll just add her to my list.[Player Name]: List of...?Haruka: Girls trying to steal you away from me.[Player Name]: Wasn't she the first one on that list?Haruka: No, that was Sakura, in eighth grade. She stole my seat next to you and spent a whole class throwing candy at your desk. Which got you in trouble, for the candy, and me in trouble for allegedly punching her.[Haruka had the nerve to say 'allegedly' when everyone had seen her sucker-punch Sakura so hard her nose bled. Sakura and Haruka had a history of tension, though. Sakura tended to pick on Haruka as she always responded. Haruka had zero cool about the things she went through. Some would say she was passionate, but they were generous.][Player Name]: I can't believe you remember who had a crush on me first.Haruka: Oh, she wasn't the first, but she was first on my list.[Player Name]: That's very dramatic.Haruka: I dunno, people just seem to like you. And my list got a whole lot bigger since yesterday.

Route Specific
Haruka's Route
- When you pick Haruka to be your lab partner, Kana expresses relief that she doesn't have to work with her, but Aiko reminds Kana that they're still all in the same group.
- Haruka's disinterest in the assignment. She acts like a bored child at the mall.
- Haruka: I already checked. It's some dumb, boring worksheet on how to not set yourself on fire.[Player Name]: It's still work.Haruka: Uh yeah, but it's easy work. Step one, don't touch the burnies.[I roll my eyes, able to recall a dozen times where Haruka did, in fact, touch the burnies. It was a wonder she had survived this long with her lack of survival instincts.]Haruka: Okay, okay. Here.[She slapped down a pair of crumpled pieces of paper. She'd had them for less than a minute, and they were already dog-eared and rumpled.]Haruka: Answer one is, uh, don't make the fire super hot?[Player Name]: It's about the color of the fire...Just don't leave it unattended, or on the blue flame if you're not directly working with it.Haruka: Yeah, so, not hot burnies fire bad.[Player Name]: Was that a sentence?Haruka: Um, yeah?[Haruka sat down beside me, one foot tucked beneath her thigh. She kept pushing her skirt to keep it from riding up, and I had to stare at the ceiling.][Player Name]: Why not sit normally?Haruka: Don't seat-shame me![Player Name]: You're in a skirt, it just seems annoying to sit like that.Haruka: (pouting) So now I'm annoying?[Player Name]: I didn't say you were annoying.Haruka: But you thought it!
- There's also this moment a bit later near the end of class.
- Haruka: Hey, you spelled 'extinguisher' wrong.[Player Name]: What?Haruka: (smiling smugly) Yeah, see here?[Haruka pointed her finger at the word 'extinguisher'. But as I leaned in to check, she flicked me on the nose.][Player Name]: Haruka![Haruka began giggling wildly, her hands covering her mouth as she tried to dampen the sound.][Player Name]: Very funny.[She stuck her tongue out at me before she jumped up, a wink shot my way to match.][And she's gone, again. I feel like I'm always chasing her...]
Yumi's Route
- Yumi teasing the MC.
- [Yumi smirked as she dug out a notebook. She had two, one for class, and one... For me. Or rather, for anyone aside from Aiko. No one else spoke sign language that I knew of. She set to sprawling her question, and slid the book when she was done.]Yumi: "Why'd you choose me? Why not the lovely Haruka?"[Player Name]: I thought the change of pace would be a good idea this year.Yumi: "So no deep, unbridled passion you're carrying for me, then?"[I snapped my hand to my mouth as I read that, to mask the sound of shock and laughter. Yumi cackled in her unique way, her voice laden with whatever prevented her speech. It wasn't quite broken...More, fragmented, like it resonated from the wrong spot in her throat.][Player Name]: That isn't it, no.Yumi: "I low-balled that to you. You could've easily lost your virginity before college. Ah, I guess you have it that long, you get attached."[I snapped my other hand to my mouth, as if that'd kill the laughter and the blushing. The fact she could write rather than speak had the hidden benefit of being able to be so brash.][I snatched the pen up, and shot Yumi a look of defiance.][Player Choice]:[Don't make me regret my choice of partner.][I've got a whole year to settle that.][Are you always this crass?]Player Answer 2: I've got a whole year to settle that.[Yumi rolled her eyes, as if the act was too much for her to handle.]
