Fridge Brilliance

  • In Mega Man vs. Samus Aran, Mega Man's analysis early on says that Samus is an "unknown life form". This seems like a side effect of Samus's Chozo DNA at first, but takes on another meaning after it's revealed the Samus Mega Man fights is actually SA-X.
  • In the DEATH BATTLE! between Ryu and Scorpion, the hosts mentioned that Scorpion would just keep coming back unless his soul was destroyed. The Penance Stare makes the soul burn with every ounce of pain the user has dealt to innocents, making it the perfect weapon against Scorpion and the most appropriate way for Ghost Rider to finish him off.
  • Knuckles beats Wario by squashing him underneath a boulder, but as noted on the characters page, Wario has actually used being Squashed Flat to his advantage in the past. He probably waddled his way out from underneath the boulder and is now trying to find a way to get back to normal, which adds nicely to the slapstick nature of the fight.
  • Despite Kenshiro supposedly hitting Jotaro's pressure points, Jotaro walks away from their battle intact. This makes no sense until you consider that Jotaro may very well have been using Star Platinum as armor like he did in his battle against Dio.
  • Taking the SMBZ timeline into account, Bowser Jr did fight Metal Sonic... Just not the one we were expecting.
  • In Season 2, the characters are all displayed on a screen in the style of a fighting game. At first it just seems like a cosmetic effect, but remember that fighting games don't have to make a character as canonically powerful as they usually are, just enough so they can fight. Fighting games also usually involve a time limit and don't have to result in death. And fighting games don't always have to give a character all the powers they have shown. So in a sense, One Minute Melee is really just a fighting game!
  • Cell vs. Meruem: How the hell could Meruem compete with the overwhelming power advantage of Cell? He took a bite out of Cell's arm before the match begun, giving Meruem access to his ablities and overwhelming power.
  • Why doesn't Superman go to the sun to power himself up against Saitama? Because he doesn't want to risk destroying the Earth again like he did during his first fight with Goku.
  • The lyrics of the song used for Cell vs Meruem may look like it's about the two combatants, but reading closely and watching the battle, it's actually about how outclassed Cell is against Meruem in that fight .
  • The fight between Dio and Sakuya lasts much longer than the proposed minute, even if you exclude the pre-battle skirmish, Then you notice near the end when both are stopping time, which if you pay attention to the clock it will stop when they use their respective abilities.
  • in Bill Cypher vs Sans, the fight seems pretty one-sided in Sans' favor untill Bill knocks Sans out in a single blow. This victory seems to come out of the blue, until you remember that Sans only has 1 HP.
Fridge Horror
  • The Mega Man vs. Samus Aran has Mega Man beat Samus, but plot twist, he was actually fighting the SA-X. Which then goes One-Winged Angel and starts beating the crap out of him before the real Samus shows up. But when it's defeated, there's no sign of its Core-X. The SA-X could have escaped and reformed elsewhere, which would mean the X Parasite is loose on Earth and Mega Man has no way of stopping it.
    • It could easily be assumed, though, that Samus is also tracking the SA-X. Hence the reason for Samus showing up to help fight the SA-X during the Mega Man fight. So even if the Core-X did escape, it could easily be assumed that Samus was chasing after it. (...Ironic, considering their previous encounter.)
  • The Sakuya vs. Dio fight ends with Sakuya stabbing Dio with a barrage of knives. Considering how JoJo vampires are rather unusual by vampire standards, and the fact that Dio has survived much worse, it's rather possible for Dio to get back up and attack Sakuya again. The "To Be Continued" at the end doesn't help this case.
    • Dio does get back up in Jotaro Kujo v.s. Kenshiro... and gets his Stand countered before being kicked away by Kenshiro. Before the match starts.
  • In Ghost Rider vs. Scorpion, Ghost Rider may have beaten Scorpion and saved Ken, but Ghost Rider just walks past him. Ken's probably still in hell without a way out.
    • If Ken found a way in in the first place, he could probably find his way out again— his later appearance in his own episode (where he battles Paul Phoenix) seems to confirm this.
  • In Meta Knight VS Zero, Zero was acting very Out of Character throughout the battle, calling Meta Knight a 'soulless copy', and even to the point of intentionally and gleefully slaying the Star Warrior when he is otherwise Three Laws-Compliant. Consider that Zero is not actually bound to the Three Laws of Robotics (Since Reploids like him have an unrestricted will of their own), that Mavericks are relatively common where he comes from, and that he used to be a Maverick himself. Now consider his personality in his original Maverick state; his behavior is eerily similar. He most likely went Maverick.note
  • In Cell vs. Meruem, Cell self-destructs in his perfect form, meaning both 17 and 18 were still absorbed and destroyed with him. Of course, the Dragon Balls can easily fix this, but in the original series, 18 being released was a Hope Spot for Krillin before it was known for certain whether or not Androids could be revived by the Dragon Balls. So even though it would all work out eventually, it certainly can't be easy for Krillin before that point.
  • Sasori vs. Alice, Sasori wins and turns Alice's corpse into a puppet. Already pretty awful, but what Sasori doesn't know is that he's probably just signed his death warrant once someone from Gensokyo finds out what he did, given the general power scale of Touhou Project and its Bullet Hell nature. There's Alice's closest friends, Marisa and Reimu, who are both Player Character-level protagonists and likely a match for Naruto. And if you include the PC-98 games, you have Alice's mother Shinki, a demonic goddess who willingly dropped a Class 0 on her own capital while trying to kill Reimu (who had just beaten up Alice and several of her other subjects) in the past, so imagine what she'd be willing to do to a foreign world containing the murderer of her daughter where she has absolutely zero reason to worry about collateral damage. Throw in Reimu's various youkai friends (such as Suika, Kasen, Aya, and especially Yukari) joining up to protect their Barrier Maiden (and probably grab some free food along the way), and suddenly there is a lot of trouble coming down on Sasori's head and those of anyone who gets in the way. And once Shinki sees what's he's done to Alice, a Fate Worse than Death is guaranteed - Shinki is both an archdevil and a goddess, and could theoretically steal Sasori's soul after killing him to continue her vengeance.
  • Crocodile vs Gaara is even worse, given that Crocodile didn't just kill Gaara, he blew up the Sand Village. He's going to have Naruto out to kill him for offing Gaara, and pretty much everyone else for genocide. If he can't escape back to his own world before he's caught, he is a dead man.
