This page assumes you have played Dragalia Lost since some of what you'll see may not make sense unless you were engaged in the events there. Therefore, there will be unmarked spoilers for that game, whereas spoilers exclusive to AzulDragalia will be appropriately marked. You Have Been Warned.
Azul Dragalia / Visions Of Alberia is a Dragalia Lost fanwork made by AzulStryer/Somepersonnamedcaloy, primarily being an Alternate Universe of the game itself.
Although there are plans to make it into a full-fledged story via the Dragalia Lost Story Enginemade by dabblerdragon as of writing, the author has opted to write it in a dialogue format reminiscent to Dragalia Life and the ingame dialogue itself and will post occasional batches in the titular subreddit and sometimes promote it within the main Dragalia subreddit.
While it retells the main campaign and some events, AzulDragalia expands on, changes some, and does both for most of the characters, primarily Ezelith who is the 8th scion of the Alberian Royal Family with some issues, and Zethia who gains some quirkier traits, and loses out on her Damsel in Distress status.
One major change in this version of events involves Zethia not being captured by Aurelius in Euden's first campaign chapter. Outside of Euden's story? There are Tobias and Nedrick's stories which also take place around the same time, with them occasionally grouping up in The Halidom, or in Euden and Tobias' cases, teaming up. Outside of that, the tone of the stories/batches traditionally fluctuates on being utterly silly and irreverent or drop-dead serious and dire. There are three major storylines for the planned Visions Of Alberia.
You can view the short stories officially in r/AzulDragalia or wait for a batch to be posted on r/DragaliaLost as of writing. The ever-updating Chapter List can be viewed here.
AzulDragalia contains examples of:
- Adaptational Early Appearance:
- The Agito appeared between Chapter 13 to Chapter 15 of the original game. Instead, they appear as villainous Found Family led by Nedrick and Kyros/Bahamut (who appears as a child up until "Revelation") at the very start of the Nedrick Campaign.
- Bahamut appeared around the Sacred Tree Arc in the original game, but is instead active from the start as god who was Brought Down to Normal during the Nedrick Campaign.
- Ascended Extra: As shown in "The 8th Scion's Opinion Of The Royal Family" and "Shifting Visions", Ezelith plays a role in the main campaign, with the latter being highlighted as a key member of Tobias' group in his campaign, alongside being one of the members outside of Nino and The Apostles who eventually join that doesn't have a grudge against the Southern Church. Here are a few more examples:
- Tobias can also count. He goes from being another Wind Adventurer in his home game to becoming one of the story's protagonists! Too bad the means he has prepared isn't pretty for not just the Southern Church, but the Ilian Church too...
- Laranoa is mostly in the background in canon, with one of her claims to fame being her relationship with Luca (who is ironically a major part of the campaign). Here? She's one of the eventual members of Euden's crew for a plot-relevant reason.
- Bahamut in the original game was an Arc Villain who appeared near the end of the storyline. In Azul Dragalia / Visions Of Alberia, he's one of the major characters from the very start and serves as an important part of Nedrick's character during his campaign and later the merged campaign where his relationship with Xenos becomes far more important.
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade:
- Because Alberian Royals have dour subject matters in hand, Ezelith is a shining example of this. In "The 8th Scion's Opinion Of The Royal Family", her section with Leonidas eventually starts sounding too personal, with her being vocally upset about his Motive Decay, hinting at a major connection between the two, which "Better Than Nothing" reveals the two of them to be biologically related at the end. In that relevant story, Ezelith recounts how her (mostly?) possessed dad pulled the Disappointed in You card, and that she didn't take it well in the slightest, with Euden explicitly saying he saw the whole thing transpire. And that's not getting into the fact that whatever the hell happened in Valkaheim may have made her this way...
- Euden is also hit with a dose of this, being more of a Mr. Vice Guy than the outright Nice Guy he was in canon. As seen below in Cerebus Rollercoaster, he's understandably rattled about the prospect of being one of the people needed to die in order to fix everything, but accepts it for unspecified reasons, though Zethia's reaction suggests it isn't pretty... "Family" also goes into how badly The Reveal in "Light & Shadow" affected him, with some... concerning views about family. If that doesn't get into it enough, "Family" heavily implies that he of all people despises Nedrick and outright admits that Nedrick deserved to suffer for it. The fact that it's Euden saying it doesn't go unnoticed by Zethia & Bahamut, with the two now silently dreading Euden and Nedrick's future interactions...
- Corrupt Church: The Ilian church is still this, meaning that the church schism and discourse still occurs anyways. The main catalyst of the conflict doesn't involve Conservatives or Periditonists, it doesn't involve who believes in Ilia being Morsayati's mother. Rather, it's caused by the Northern Leader's soul-crushing guilt for an Accidental Murder getting out of hand. Even before that, there were issues such as the differing natures of how the Northern Leader and Southern Leader would conduct their factions, especially because they were a Brother–Sister Team. Were.
- Cerebus Rollercoaster: This is the tone for Visions Of Alberia. Most parts of the story/strips have an irreverent and silly vibe, with The Halidom acting like a full-on Cloud Cuckoo Lander group, Leonidas screwing up a chess move Played for Laughs with a Curse Cut Short, and an age-old question about snakes taking a turn for the weird when Zethia jumps in. However, there are recurring themes of revenge to the point that Laranoa and Fleur are a little too eager to partake in. Euden becoming willing to face what was initially a Hesitant Sacrifice for currently unspecified reasons much to the sadness of his sister, and this is just getting into a few of them. But sometimes, it does both with Melsa initially being weirded out by the quirkiness of The Halidom before reflecting on her betrayal in "Kindness & Captivity...
- Revenge Is Not Justice: In "Shifting Visions", Zena both condemns and expresses concern for Tobias' group because the only thing keeping them together is shared hatred and trauma from the church conflict. While Ezelith, Nino, and The Apostles are exempt from this, Zena ponders how bonds can be formed in a group like this.Zena: Can genuine connections truly be formed in such a way?
