"In one world, it was Harry Potter who defeated Voldemort. In another, it was Jasmine Potter instead. But her victory wasn't the end - her struggles continued long afterward. And began long, long before."
— Official Summary

A Long Journey Home by Rakeesh is a Gender Flip Time Travelling Harry Potter Fanfic. Its first chapter was published the 20/11/2013. Jasmine Potter is sent to the Amrathian Period, and, being The Ageless, goes back the long way.

The story alternates between snippets of the life of Jasmine in time long past, and her awkward reunion with her friends.

Last updated March 2017.

A Long Journey Home contains examples of:

  • Ancient Egypt: When Jasmine ends up, after her involuntary Time Travel.
  • Arch-Enemy: The Goblins are this to Jasmine. Her brutal defeat of them at Hogsmeade caused them to swear an eternal grudge against her that was passed down to their descendants. While Jasmine is confident that said descendants won't recognize her in the present day (seeing as they didn't recognize her when she was growing up), she'd rather not push her luck and thus avoids them whenever she can.
  • Atlantis: Did exist, and did sink. Jasmine had a lot friends there that she lost that day, and it depressed her terribly.
  • The Atoner: Simon of Westly, after his greed led to the death of his master. While Jasmine cursing him to never enjoy having money helped, it's implied he would've gone on this path regardless, as he had loved Myrddin almost as much as Jasmine did.
  • Badass Boast: Jasmine (Muirgen) gives an awesome one to Morgause during their duel after Myrddin's death.
"You ridiculous child," she rasped, her voice raw, "I've been using Apparition since before the pyramids were built! You think, in all that time, I never considered a Disapparition jinx, and how to disrupt it?" Blood dripped from her mouth from where she'd bitten her lip, but her eyes were clear. "I've had time to learn many things. Like how to deal with pain. Like how to lure a would-be dark lord in close: by being broken!"
  • Been There, Shaped History: Among other things, Jasmine (as Morgana) trained Merlin, who would go on to create the foundation of modern magical Britain.
  • Connected All Along: As she enters Myrddin's era, Jasmine ends up meeting many of the ancestors of her friends from her original lifetime. A squire who stuck around for her duel with Morgause turns out to be the ancestor of Neville and the Longbottom family. Of particular note is Simon of Westly, the last of Myrddin's apprentices, who counts the Weasleys among his descendants.
  • Fantastic Racism : Magicals/Muggles, Purebloods/Muggleborns, Wizards and Witches/Others magical species.
  • Freudian Excuse: According to Jasmine, there is a reason why Salazar Slytherin acted the way he did, though she admits that, as tragic as it was, it was no excuse for his behavior.
  • Gender Flip: Jasmine Potter.
  • Hammerspace: Jasmine and Myrddin both have one for their Foci. It apparently works by storing them in their soul.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Hilariously, Albus Dumbledore for Jasmine, to the point that he borderline stalked her. Had he not been so involved in her early lifetime, she might've indulged him and revealed herself to him, if only to get him off her back.
  • I Have Many Names: Jasmine: "Oh, I prefer not to be tied down with labels. Are you coming?"
    • Jasmine Potter, Girl-Who-Lived, Girl-Who-Won, Wadjet, Muirgen, Morgan le Fay, Morgana, Lily Fakhrani, She-Who-Waits, The Deliverer, Old Lady Ambrose, May, Flower, Mallika, Antheia.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Everyone is like that, according to Jasmine, and is ultimately the real reason why purebloods resent muggleborns so much.
  • Imperial China: Jasmine fled here after the debacle in Ancient Greece, right before the Shang Dynasty's collapse.
  • It Was with You All Along: After the death of his wife, Simon searched desperately for Jasmine so she could break his curse and finally allow him to die. He continued the search until his body became so decrepit that he was confined to a bed. It was then that Jasmine finally visited him, and revealed that she had broken the curse on him decades ago — what was keeping him alive was Simon himself, whose magic was reacting to his subconscious wish to atone for Myrddin's death. It is only when Simon overcomes his guilt and forgives himself that he is finally able to die.
  • Loving a Shadow: Jasmine has a non-romantic version in Ron and Hermione. Part of it is due to faulty memory, as she genuinely cannot remember what Ron and Hermione were truly like in her original lifetime.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Jasmine and Myrddin. And pretty much every other romance Jasmine's had since becoming Trapped in the Past.
  • Mugging the Monster: Morgause massively underestimates Jasmine due to simply thinking her as Myrddin's "whore", having never learned that Jasmine was actually his teacher and his only equal.
  • One True Love: Myrddin is implied to be this for Jasmine. Out of all her lovers, both before and after him, he is clearly the one she is most fond of, and while she's moved on for the most part, some part of her still longs for him in the present.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Returning from the loop, Jasmine is somewhere around five thousand years old.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Jasmine after the death of Myrddin.
  • Shapeshifting Seducer: Uther using Polyjuice.
  • So Proud of You: Jasmine to Simon on his deathbed. She also tells him that she believes Myrddin would be too, and that is what finally gives Simon the peace needed to move on.
  • Stable Time Loop: Old Jasmine used the time-portkey on Young Jasmine to preserve the reality she lives in because You Already Changed the Past is in effect.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: Betwen Jasmine and Myrddin. The romance truly commences after the end of Myrddin's apprenticeship.
  • Trapped in the Past: Jasmine; since she is The Ageless, she came back through The Slow Path.
  • Unwanted False Faith: After the sinking of Atlantis, Jasmine spent several decades in Ancient Greece, trying to cope with the grief by gardening. This led to the people to mistaking her as a goddess; when she finally found out, she was so embarrassed that she fled to Imperial China.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Jasmine. Lampshaded by Ron, who calls it her "Powers of Improbability".
  • Worf Had the Flu: It's strongly implied that Morgause only got as far as she did in her duel with Jasmine because the latter was in a bad state (both physically and mentally) after Myrddin's death. Had Jasmine been at full strength, she would've mopped the floor with her; and even then, she still defeated and killed Morgause.
  • World's Best Warrior: Jasmine is easily the most powerful and skilled witch in the world, and possibly of all time. The only person to have ever bested her at her full strength was Merlin, and even then that was not as often as she bested him.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Jasmine and the Flamel, though it remains mild.
  • You Already Changed the Past: In full effect, thanks to Jasmine's lack of knowledge in history. Because she doesn't know what she can and cannot change, she's comfortable just going with the flow, which allows her to maintain the Stable Time Loop. It does, however, mean that she's quite upset about falling in love with Myrddin, because she knows enough history to know that he's doomed.
