Ensemble Dark Horse / Serge Storms

Go To

Many Serge Storms supporting and guest characters are quite popular with readers.

  • Coleman and Sharon are initially just a pair of drug using bumbling sidekicks and secondary characters who are killed off in the first book, but they were popular enough for Dorsey to give them both Suspiciously Similar Substitutes, bring them back with a book in Anachronic Order, and ultimately retcon Coleman back from the dead in a permanent sidekick role
  • Suburban couple Jim and Martha Davenport only appear in a handful of books but are fan favorite recurring characters due to their constant Cringe Comedy humor, Beware the Nice Ones, and gradual Properly Paranoid wariness of being around their self-proclaimed friend Serge.
  • Inspector Javert Mahoney has fairly small roles in most of his appearances. Still, his humorous obsession with Film Noir and gradual Character Development made him popular enough that, at one point, he was the only character besides Serge with a page on Wikipedia.
  • Bold but unlucky Intrepid Reporter Reevis Tome and Brook Campanella (a Crusading Lawyer who takes to her job Like a Duck Takes to Water and has a few brilliant Refuge in Audacity moments) don't appear until the seventeenth and eighteenth books, respectively, but quickly became much-loved members of the recurring cast.
  • The E-Team (later known as the G-Unit), a quartet of feisty senior citizens, only appear sporadically but tend to delight fans when they do.
  • Serge's grandfather's Caper Crew are iconic supporting characters, even though several of them pass away during the Time Skip between their first two appearances.
  • Of the many Real Person Cameos in the series, flamboyant former Florida governor Claude Kirk, wildlife photographer Lucky Cole, and survivalist and zoo operator Trapper Nelson might be the most iconic despite only being in two chapters of Nuclear Jellyfish, seven chapters of Electric Barracuda and three chapters of The Pope of Palm Beach, respectively.
  • Tex Jackson from Orange Crush, who can go from "the black Mr. Rogers" to a Sergeant Rock action hero in seconds, makes a strong impression despite not living for too long past his first chapter.
  • Sly "The Gentleman Bandit/The Courteous Crook/The Salutorious Swindler" McGraw only appears in four chapters of The Triggerfish Twist, and only talks in one of them, but his intelligent, Affably Evil personality and odd quasi-bonding with Serge make him one of the best-liked antagonists in the series.
  • Walking joke cartel leader Mr. Grande and Ivan (the Only Sane Man of his hit squad) from Stingray Shuffle are big fan favorites for having some of the best Butt-Monkey moments in the series.
  • Serge and Coleman's temporary traveling companion Rachael is only in Atomic Lobster but is a particularly entertaining and well-remembered guest character for some humorous womanchild moments related to her Addled Addict status and Sit Com Archnemesis bickering with Coleman, frequent Ms. Fanservice scenes, and Unintentionally Sympathetic moments in her interactions with Serge.
  • Story Long from Nuclear Jellyfish is one of the best-liked girls of the week for combining the best of both primary types of women Serge is attracted to (Femme Fatales and Hot Librarians). She does this by being a sometimes hot-headed stripper with hidden motives who is also taking college courses, tutors her friends in complex subjects, and shares Serge's fondness for Florida, trivia, and View-Masters.
  • The Doberman, a Joke Character Dog the Bounty Hunter Expy from Electric Barracuda, has few scenes but plenty of fans.
  • Kenny and Darby, supporting characters from The Pope of Palm Beach, are a pair of well-read surfers with a moving Inter Generational Friendship. Some reviewers think they could have carried the book without Serge.
  • Chris from Naked Came the Florida Man is a pretty well-liked side character for her You Go, Girl! subplot, despite it being largely devoid of the humor and violence that draws many readers to the series.
    • Rodeo-frequenting siblings Kyle and Cheyenne don't appear until well over halfway through the same book but have a lot of fans for their fun interactions with Serge and defiance of groups like the Westboro Baptist Church.
  • Some good The Chessmaster moments make one-shot villains Doug from Cadillac Beach and Salenca from The Pope of Palm Beach decently distinguishable and memorable to the fans.
  • Immoral Reality Show crew Nigel and Gunter from Clownfish Blues may be annoyances to sympathetic character Reevis, but they are engaging and hysterical while doing so and among the better-remembered characters from that book.
  • Board game champion Jen-Jen and Professor Fontaine (who is struggling not to Go Mad from the Isolation for an experiment, only for the first COVID quarantine to trap him once again right as the experiment ends) only have a few scenes throughout Books 25 and 26 but are still decently regarded.
