"Gengar and the Plates" is an unpublished Pokemon fanfiction soon to be posted by fanfiction.net author Mandatoryauthor.The story follows a Pikachu and his quest to stop an evil Gengar from usurping Arceus' position. The tropes included are as follows:
- And I Must Scream:
- Gengar's fate: Pikachu using an iron tail attack to send him flying into the deepest pits of the Distortion World for all eternity.
- Ditto being melted by Magmortar whilst screaming his lungs out.
- Pikachu and Buizel.
- Bittersweet Ending: The Resistance wins, but many of their fighters have died. Hypno is also still out there.
- Butt-Monkey: Aggron is a frequent target of Gengar's pranks due to the former's lack of intelligence.
- Defiant to the End:
- Golem and Magmortar throw insults at the resistance as they lay dying.
- Gengar's last words are to wish death upon Pikachu.
- Karmic Death: Bisharp is knocked into a wood chipper. This is a karmic death because Bisharp's MO for killing people was severing major arteries and dismemberment.
- Making a Splash: The water-types, notably Buizel and Gyarados.
- Megaton Punch: Pangoro's combo attack where he uses Close Combat, then follows it up with Mach Punch and Hammer Arm. This attack sends people flying across the room.
- The Nose Knows: Munchlax can recognize smells of Pokemon he's met. He loses this ability when he evolves, however.
- Playing with Fire: The fire-types, though Magmortar is the most powerful.
- Psychic Powers: The psychic-types, though Hypno is more powerful than them all.
- Rogues Gallery: Gengar and his main henchmen, whom he appoints to be the head of his type-coded armies.
