The Irregulars

    Bea

Beatrice "Bea" Cook

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_9580.jpeg

Portrayed by: Thaddea Graham
"My betters? My Betters! Just because you ride around in a fancy carriage and wear suits doesn't make you my better."
  • Affectionate Nickname: Billy calls her Bumble.
  • Corporal Punishment: She was beaten a lot during her time at the workhouse.
  • Determinator: She is determined to figure out Watson's involvement with the supernatural and the mystery surrounding Sherlock Holmes.
  • The Leader: Is the undisputed leader of the Irregulars, though this is not an official title.
  • Parental Abandonment: She doesn't know who her father is, her mother died when she was young and her would-be step-father abandoned her and her half-sister after her mother's death.
  • Private Detective: Though initially wary of Watson's offer she is very good at investigation and deduction and takes to the job rather well.
  • Promotion to Parent: After her mother's death she and her sister are sent to a workhouse and Bea becomes Jessie's primary caretaker and protector.
  • Street Urchin: Watson states this is the reason he wants to hire her as she can go to some of the more disreputable parts of London he and Sherlock can not go as gentlemen.

    Billy

Billy

Portrayed by: Jojo Macari
"I don't want our story to be just about how we fought through all the horrible shit."

  • The Brute: There's a combination lock, the code is the answer to the riddle. Rather than wait for the riddle to be solved Billy breaks the lock open.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Is clearly in love with Bea but struggles to tell her.
  • Covered with Scars: Presumably from his time in the workhouse or from subsequent street fights.
  • Corporal Punishment: He was beaten and abused badly for even minor infractions by the master of the workhouse growing up. Though Billy seems more traumatized by the beatings that Bea received because he felt that he should have been able to protect her despite the fact that he was only a child when they happened.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Is repeatedly called "Little Bill" by the workhouse master that beat him as a child.
  • Manly Man and Sensitive Guy: The Manly Man to Spike's Sensitive Guy.
  • Parental Abandonment: His mother died when he was a baby and his father died in the army shortly after. This turns out to be a lie he was told as a child. His mother was a Scottish prostitute who gave him up to the workhouse as a baby.
  • Street Urchin: A clear-cut example in his capacity as the scrappiest of the crew.

    Jessie

Jessica "Jessie" Cook

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_69208.jpeg

Portrayed by: Darci Shaw
  • Break the Cutie: Is very sweet and kind and towards the beginning of the series even playful and romantic, but as her nightmares grow worse and her powers expose her to darker things she quickly becomes much less happy and optimistic.
  • Everyone's Baby Sister: Because of her age, her sweet nature, and her nightmares the Irregulars are all extremely protective of her, especially Bea.
  • Parental Abandonment: Like her older sister Bea, Jessie doesn't know her father, and her mother died when she was a baby. She later learns that her father is Sherlock Holmes, who abandoned her after her mother's death.
  • Sherlock Scan: While not as observant as the trope namer, she does display a fair attention to detail. A hint that she has a connection to Sherlock.
  • Street Urchin: After leaving the workhouse.

    Spike

Spike

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_8395.jpeg

Portrayed by: McKell David

  • The Charmer: Often uses his natural charm to talk his way out of situations or to get information.
  • Manly Man and Sensitive Guy: The Sensitive Guy to Billy's Manly Man.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: He's only referred to as Spike, no other name is ever given.
  • Parental Abandonment: Though he did not end up in the workhouse like the others, he still has no parents around to speak of. We don't have any information about what happened to them.
  • The Power of Love: Uses this to break through the infatuation spell placed on Jessie long enough to get her out of immediate danger.
  • Street Urchin: He grew up on the streets without parents.

    Leo

His Royal Highness The Prince Leopold “Leo”

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_0558.jpeg

Portrayed by: Harrison Osterfield

  • Historical Domain Character: Prince Leopold was the real-life youngest son of Queen Victoria. He also had hemophilia and felt trapped by his family's protectiveness, he did not however run away to join a street gang of paranormal investigators....
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: The main reason Leo wants to give up his life at the Palace to join the Irregulars.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Sports the palest of blue eyes as per Real Life (inherited from his mother Queen Victoria) and having endured a childhood shut up inside the Palace, he’s sweetly naive and trusting.
  • Royal Blood: He hides it from his new-found friends but Leo is the youngest son of Queen Victoria and therefore a royal prince.
  • The Smart Guy: Due to being royal, his level of education goes far beyond his fellow Irregulars, though he lacks any street smarts.
