  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Sort of. Number of times Carol has mentioned him in the last couple of decades; about 4. And most of those were in an arc of the Ms Marvel in the late 00s, relating to pre-powers business, and he promptly vanished at the end of the arc.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: During a brief cameo in an issue of Uncanny X-Men (not coincidentally, when Chris Claremont was still the writer of Ms. Marvel), he meets with Stephen Lang, the very unstable head of Project: Armageddon and tells him his ideas are completely nuts, and vows to stop him.

An old friend from Carol's NASA days, Danvers was one of her instructors, Petrie was part of the NASA's Skylab program.

  • Cool Sword: Going with her new costume, part of her new get up included an "ionic sword".
  • Evil Costume Switch: Following her brainwashing, she received a new yellow costume that could project a forcefield, fire mini-missiles from its arms, and boosted her strength.
  • Not Quite Dead: Was presumed dead, when the Skylab shuttle exploded, in reality she was "saved" by the Faceless One, who brainwashed her and took her to Guardians of the Galaxy's Drydock.
  • Secret-Keeper: She knows that Carol was Ms. Marvel, Carol revealed her secret identity.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: She hasn't reappeared again following the finale of the original Ms. Marvel run.

    Spider-Woman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jessica_drew_2528earth_trn2072529_001_jpg.jpg

Alter Ego: Jessica Miriam Drew

First Appearance: Marvel Spotlight Vol. 1, #32

When Jessica was little, she was infected with uranium radiation and was in danger of dying. Her father used an experimental spider serum to save her, and put her in a tube to accelerate the serum's growth, saving her life but aging her rather rapidly to the point that she looks, and acts, much older than she is. She was raised in Wundagore by the cow-woman Lady Bova, eventually left to make her way in the human world, fell in love... then accidentally killed her first love with her latent superpower: bio-electric blasts. Accused of being a witch, Jessica fled Wundagore and was taken to HYDRA, tricked into thinking that it was a good place for refugees, even though it's actually a terrorist group. She was trained in martial arts and learned to harness her powers more effectively. These include the discovery of her other powers such as Wall Climbing and Pheromones, which attract men and women. Oh, and she was given her codename, first Arachne, but quickly changed to Spider-Woman.

On her first mission to assassinate Nick Fury, Jessica came to realize that HYDRA was wrong, so she rebelled and was left on her own to cope with her power and with her daily life. It was tough, but eventually she managed to overcome her problems, especially after the Crossover with Spider-Man, who advised her to use her power for good; she later became a bounty hunter and a private detective.

For more information, see Spider-Woman.

    Tracy Burke
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tracy_burke.jpg

First Appearance: Ms. Marvel Vol. 1, #8

A tough as nails old lady, she's Carol's former colleague when she was working as a journalist, who reappears after Carol becomes Captain Marvel, and is revealed to be dying of cancer.

    Joe Danvers

First Appearance: Ms. Marvel vol 1 #13

Carol Danvers's father, a former airman and construction worker whose views on women bring him into conflict with his daughter.

  • Abusive Parents: Treated Carol like garbage, thinking she, as a girl, was fit only for finding a nice young man who'd "look after her" and produce little baby Danverses. He was also physically abusive, Carol recalling he once "whaled the tar" out of her for sneaking out of the house.
  • Benevolent Boss: One of the few good things you could say about Joe, he will risk his life to save his employees.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Parent: Refused to let Carol go into higher education, despite being far more capable than her brothers. So she left home.
  • Hidden Depths: It's revealed in The Life of Captain Marvel that at least part of his attitude towards Carol is because he's utterly terrified of her catching the attention of his wife's Kree superiors. This... doesn't exactly make his behaviour better, or make Carol any fonder of him, but it does make him a more three-dimensional character.
  • Skewed Priorities: Insists Ms. Marvel not save him because he can't live with the notion a "frail" saved his life, even trying to run back to fight the supervillain who was one minute from killing him. Carol has to sock him unconscious to get him out of there.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Such an astoundingly sexist pig he can't even say thanks when Ms. Marvel saves him from dying.

    Marie Danvers

Marie Danvers / Mari-Ell

First Appearance: Ms. Marvel vol 1 #13

Carol Danvers's mother. Eventually revealed to secretly be a former Kree soldier.

  • Good Stepmother: The Life of Captain Marvel reveals that she's this to Carol's older half-brothers, who consider her their mother.
  • Mama Bear: Don't threaten her children. Just don't. Or she will reveal that yes, she really is an elite Kree warrior.
  • Parents as People: She had a complicated relationship with Carol, mainly related to issues with her father, but there's no denying she loved her dearly, and they got on towards the end of her life.
  • Parents Know Their Children: Is able to recognize that Ms. Marvel is her daughter at a glance, where Joe couldn't, though it's explained that some of this is also because Joe won't recognize Carol acting outside his opinion of what a woman should act like.
  • Retcon: For forty years, there was no indication that Carol's mom was nothing more than an ordinary human woman. Then The Life of Carol Danvers comes along, and suddenly she's a deep-cover Kree agent. Oh, and Carol's siblings aren't biologically her kids, but Joe's from a marriage before they met.

    Lauri-Ell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lauri_ell_earth_616_from_captain_marvel_vol_10_18_002.jpg

First Appearance: Captain Marvel Vol. 10, #18

The artificially gestated half sister of Carol Danvers.

  • Amazonian Beauty: She shares some of Carol's facial features, but holy crap she's buff. Carol's a big girl, but when she tries some of her tops while on Earth, she tears them because of her muscles. Even Jessica Drew can't help but comment on the size of her biceps.
  • Artificial Human: While Lauri-Ell isn't human, she was created in a Kree lab using the DNA from Carol's mother Mari-Ell and an unknown male Kree soldier.
  • Big Sister Instinct: While it's not clear if she's older or younger than Carol (Carol implies she's younger), she sure is bigger and was ready to break a few bones when Abigail Brand slapped Carol for keeping Alpha Flight out of the loop concerning the Cotati.
  • Endearingly Dorky: For a genetically engineered Kree soldier, she's surprisingly endearing during her stay on Earth. It helps that as she explains, she's a superb soldier, but she doesn't actually like it very much.
  • Fish out of Water: She's been a soldier for most likely all her life, so when she arrives to Carol's apartment, she finds many things confusing.
  • Hero Worship: She has some towards her mother and her older half-sister, idolising both, though it settles into a more normal sibling relationship and a desire to connect to a family she's never known.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: She quickly bonds with Carol's pet cat/Flerken Chewie shortly after arriving to Earth.
  • Legacy Character: She becomes the new Accuser of the united Kree-Skrull Empire after Empyre once Carol resigns and she's shown to be very apt with the Universal Weapon.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Until she mentioned who her mother was, Carol had no idea she had a half-sister.
  • Martial Pacifist: Sweet, fairly mild-mannered, really does not like war. Also a Kree Super-Soldier and astoundingly good at it when required to be.
  • Reluctant Warrior: She's a Kree Super-Soldier, but she doesn't actually like fighting very much.
  • Sibling Team: She and Carol prove themselves very good at working together.
  • Super-Soldier: By Kree standards, having been engineered for the purpose. She's very, very good at war, but she hates it.

    Chewie
Chewie is Carol Danvers's pet Flerkin, whom she originally believed to be a normal domesticated cat.

Alternative Title(s): Ms Marvel Allies, Ms Marvel Enemies
