Abuela’s family
Abuela
The family matriarch and series namesake.
- Immigrant Parents: Abuela is this, as she fled Cuba on the Freedom Flights.
- I Was Quite a Looker: She was quite beautiful during her prime as shown in flashbacks.
- Never Mess with Granny: She can be quite savage, and god forbid you don’t eat her food.
- No Name Given: Abuela’s real name is not stated, only being referred to as "abuela" (grandma), doña (miss/madam) or mami (mom).
Maruchi
The youngest of Abuela’s daughters and mother of Laritza.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: Her chatty, eccentric and gossipy nature tends to alienate her older sisters.
- Chatty Hairdresser: She tends to talk a lot either with her clients or with her best friend Fidelia.
- Gossipy Hens: She and Fidelia are always discussing the latest gossip.
Laritza
Maruchi’ s daughter and one of Abuela’s grandchildren.
- Childish Older Sibling: Or rather older cousin. She is quite childish compared to her cousins Michi and Jasleiney, to the point the former was asked to babysit her.
- Never Grew Up: As she still lives with her mother, enjoys childish things (like mac and cheese, Disney movies and toys) and isn’t very good at "adulting".
- Professional Slacker: She’s shown to be this especially when she starts working at a boutique.
- Valley Girl: She speaks and acts like one. Though strangely this changes when she is on the phone.
Flor
The oldest of Abuela’s children, mother of Michi and wife of Benito.
- Creepy Souvenir: She’s known to keep odd things from her child, including her daughter’s cut ponytail and her baby teeth, made into earrings.
- Gratuitous Spanish: Unlike Maruchi, who mostly speaks Spanish and Gloria, who mostly speaks English, Flor tends to speak broken English with Spanish peppered throughout it.
- Housewife: She does not seem to have a job, unlike her sisters. Then again, it doesn’t seem like Benito has a job, either…
- Nervous Wreck: She is always panicking and frantic about everything.
- Stage Mom: She tries to make Michi shine when she plays angel Gabriel, even outshining the other actors.
- Strong Family Resemblance: She looks like a much younger Abuela as shown in the Mother’s Day episode.
Benito
- Big Eater: Benito is often seen snacking, even when he shouldn’t be.
- Bumbling Dad: He’s quite dim-witted unlike his wife.
- Happily Married: He and Flor are the only couple who isn’t broken up.
Michi
The youngest of Abuela’s grandchildren and the daughter of Flor and Benito.
- Bespectacled Cutie: She is often seen wearing black glasses.
- Language Barrier: She doesn’t seem to speak much Spanish. However she is still able to understand her grandmother most of the time.
- Shrinking Violet: She’s quite shy and introverted.
Gloria
The middle child between Abuela’s children and Jaime and Jasleiney’s mother.
- Bad Liar: She often claims her children have accomplished more than what they actually have.
- Holier Than Thou: Though she quotes bible scriptures she is quick to judge and lies often.
- Rich Bitch: She is rich, judgy and is often trying to make herself seem better than her sisters.
- Rich Sibling, Poor Sibling: At least compared to her sisters, given she lives in Coral Gables.
Jasleiney
One of Abuela’s grandchildren and the daughter of Gloria.
- Deadpan Snarker: She’s quite sarcastic and snarky, much like Abuela can be.
- Goth Girls Know Magic: Jasleiney is quite knowledgeable about the occult. She and Abuela bond over astrology.
- Limited Wardrobe: She mostly wears black, though she also enjoys cosplaying.
Jaime
Another of Abuela’s grandchildren, Jasleiney’s brother and Gloria’s son.
- Parental Issues: He’s estranged from his mother, most likely because of his sexuality.
Kevin
Laritza’s cousin and a member of Abuela’s family. It’s later revealed he is the son of aunt Migdalia, Laritza’s paternal aunt.
- Connected All Along: As it turns out, Kevin is the son of Laritza’s Tia Migdalia, her father’s sister.
- Nice Guy: He’s mostly helpful towards his family, doing reverse trick or treating.
- Running Gag: Most of the time his family members seldom recognize him (often muttering "quien carajo es Kevin") except for Jaime.
