Being a largely Internet-based fandom with an enormous fanbase
note on Twitter, tags related to the SMP and the content creators involved end up on Trending so often that it is currently listed as its own category rather than a more generic one like "Gaming", the
Dream SMP has spawned many,
many memes indeed.
Please add entries in the following format:
- The meme. [[note]]The explanation behind the meme, if not already part of the description.[[/note]] note Like this.
- Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
- The Crafting Table. Explanation (NSFW)George was standing on a crafting table, and Sapnap tries to nudge George off the table. Unfortunately in George's POV, Sapnap looks like as if he's... giving head. This joke has spread to other YouTubers and has caused people to consider Crafting Tables to be cursed objects.
- Every arc in the SMP has gotten a comparison to a popular piece of media.
- The L'Manburg arc is Hamilton, with Wilbur as Washington and Tommy as Hamilton. "I don't remember that in Hamilton!" is a John Mulaney-quote that became very popular once the Pogtopia Arc started and Wilbur's mental health took a steep nosedive in the process.
- The Pogtopia Arc is Heathers, with Wilbur as JD and Tommy as Veronica, if only for purely aesthetic reasons.
- Later becomes an Ascended Meme when Wilbur references it in his mid-March livestream "Bust".
- The Exile Arc is Tangled, with Tommy as Rapunzel and Dream as Mother Gothel. At the end, when Tommy ran away and moved into Techno's house without his knowledge, the arc also got some comparisons to Parasite.
- The Imprisonment Arc is a bizarre crossover between Stranger Things, with the Crimson Egg plot, Animal Crossing, with Sam Nook and the Big Innit Hotel, and Looney Tunes (or Team Rocket from Pokémon), with Jack and Niki's comedic attempts to kill Tommy.
- The Las Nevadas Arc is SpongeBob SquarePants, with fans seeing parallels between the burger-shop rivalries of Las Nevadas and Paradise, and the Krusty Krab and the Chum Bucket.
- Philza's chancla. ExplanationPhil has repeatedly stated that, if he gets added to the server, the first thing he's going to do is smack Wilbur with his slipper for trying to blow up Manberg. This spawned many a fanart.
- For the animatic! ExplanationMany of the server members have seen the incredible animatics and fanart that people have made, and would purposefully try and say as many epic lines as possible to try and make it into the animatic. Often they will specifically call out SAD-ist to put them in the animatic.
- The Description Man. ExplanationMost of the things Dream SMP fans have gotten trending on Twitter have had their own custom description so that people not in the loop would know what was going on. This sparked a lot of memes about the increasingly fed-up Twitter employee that has to comb through several Minecraft streams in order to write these descriptions. The identity of the employee in question has since been revealed to be a woman named Victoria.
- This video of Tommy lip-synching along to "That's What I Like" by Bruno Mars has become a meme both in- and out-of-universe, though Tommy himself considers it Old Shame.
- OH NO, IT'S THE 16TH. ExplanationThe 16th of every month is universally considered to be cursed, as that has historically been the day where things go horribly wrong (October 16th was the Manburg Festival, November 16th was the Manburg-Pogtopia War and December 16th was the attack of the Butcher Army).
- Gender: Minecraft. ExplanationThe official Dream SMP Wiki was briefly vandalized to display Philza's gender as "Minecraft".
- Sapnap's status as a Chronic Pet Killer has been memed to hell and back. It's to the point that when Sapnap ultimately sided with L'Manburg in the Doomsday War after a day of indecisiveness, fans joked that Sapnap only did so because Techno had an army of dogs for him to personally kill.
- It's all George's fault! Explanation George sleeping through the election and causing Quackity to ally himself with Jschlatt is what caused the trainwreck of events that led to the Civil War arc, and arguably every much more serious arc that has happened as a result. The fans and Quackity definitely seem to agree with this line of thought.
- DreamXD returning a part of the End Portal, which is called a table, has become a fairly memetic moment if only for how comedic it is compared to the rest of the scene of it destroying the portal in the first place.
- "Dream will see a minor and say 'Is anyone gonna manipulate that?' and not wait for an answer." Explanation Dream's gaslighting and manipulation has been mostly directed at Tommy and Tubbo, and occasionally at Ranboo (implied to be through Enderwalk, though the incident with the 'Dream voice' is sometimes mistakenly cited as well despite both content creators confirming it wasn't actually c!Dream) — all of whom were minors at the time. This led to many jokes about Dream's only joy in life being manipulating kids.
- Branching off of that, there have been just as many jokes about Purpled being the only minor Dream hadn't manipulated yet, and that he should run while he can. (Note that Eryn hadn't joined the server yet at the time.)
- 4/4 manipulated minors. ExplanationFollowing the events of Quackity's May 22nd lore stream, there had been recurring memes about how Purpled was the only minor at the time who managed to escape Dream's manipulations, only for Quackity to get to him instead... which later turned out to be false, since Purpled was revealed in the "Las Nevadas" finale to be much more in control of the situation than everyone thought.
- "[X], my beloved." ExplanationRanboo fans started spreading this gif of a heart locket opening with a picture of Ranboo's skin with the text "Ranboo, my beloved" in it on social media. It was quickly picked up by fans of other Dream SMP members, who started replacing Ranboo in the gif with their own favorite character. This gets to the point that it has become a meme on Tumblr overall, and Ranboo himself has confirmed that "Ranboo My Beloved" is his character's full name in-universe. This gets ramped up when the "Ranboo, my beloved" GIF becomes so popular that it got displayed on a billboard at Times Square in NYC at 11AM EST on June 20th, 2021.
- Schrödinger's Innit. ExplanationTommy didn't stream at all during the week he spent in the prison with Dream. Due to the wide range of theories regarding how being trapped with Dream would impact Tommy's mental state, people started joking that he was both fine and not fine until Sam let him out.
- Team Rocket. ExplanationWhen Jack Manifold and Niki underwent a Face–Heel Turn, deciding to team up to take Tommy's final canon life, a running joke in the fandom was to compare them to Team Rocket from Pokémon, as it was apparent they were more comedically evil than other villain characters like Dream or Schlatt. It was especially joked about during the nuke testing streams, which solidified their roles as Ineffectual Sympathetic Villains. Both Jack and Niki took this meme really well and leaned into it, Niki even named her pet parrot Meowth in reference to it.
- Amnesiacs, amnesiacs everywhere! ExplanationAfter Puffy revealed on her origin stream that her character has amnesia, fans noticed that this meant there were four characters on the SMP (Puffy, Ranboo, Ghostbur, and Karl) who have some kind of memory issue. Naturally, many jokes popped up around the fandom about having memory issues being a requirement to join the server, or the four of them starting a support group. Since then, Eret has also been revealed to have amnesia.
- Love is dead! ExplanationAlmost every canonical romantic relationship (or pseudo-relationship) has been broken up or has started going through a rough patch in a very short time period (March/April 2021), with Sam canonically killing and torturing Ponk over the Pandora's Vault warden's keycards and cutting his arm off, Karl forgetting to invite Quackity to Kinoko Kingdom due to circumstances beyond his control and Poor Communication Kills causing the latter to feel abandoned and thus go into a mental spiral as the last straw to a long Trauma Conga Line, Dream and George being separated by Pandora's Vault, and eventually Bad and Skeppy getting into an argument which ended in Skeppy's Accidental Murder.
- Mexican Dream is speedrunning his deaths. ExplanationAll three of Mexican Dream's deaths come pretty quick and out of nowhere, and all in the same stream. Given that he's, well, like what Dream would be if he were Mexican, some fans tend to joke that he was speedrunning.
- Ranboo is Y/N. ExplanationMany aspects of Ranboo as a character, such as his species being half unknown, his amnesia, his lack of negative relationships on the server other than Wilbur and Dream, and his status as The Woobie, combined with Ranboo the content creator being an Promoted Fanboy, has lead to fans affectionately labeling him a self-insert character.
- Geneva Convention, more like Geneva Suggestion. / Quackity can torture Dream, as a treat. ExplanationThe Geneva Conventions comprise of four treaties that were made after World War II that demands that countries will treat their prisoners well in times of war. After Tommy was revived, Quackity started torturing Dream, demanding to know how to resurrect the dead. With Dream's history as a manipulator, most people found it hard to feel bad for him, making jokes at Dream's expense and even encouraging Quackity.
- "People just hate to see a girlboss winning." ExplanationA common joke reply on Tumblr to people pointing out that Quackity torturing Dream is wrong and inhumane.
- The Red Banquet, being a Wham Episode, has received plenty of memes due to its Gambit Pileup nature, mainly to summarize the events of the Banquet.
- Quackity, Techno, and Purpled's Big Damn Heroes moment, being the Last Plan Standing and a Spanner in the Works for the Eggpire, is also jokingly compared to the meme where Bernie Sanders shows up to Trump's inauguration with a steel chair, and has spawned many a fanart.
- Heterophobia. ExplanationThe Dream SMP is heavily implied to be a Non-Heteronormative Society, with most of the characters being either canonically LGBTQ+ or having had Ho Yay moments with other members of the server. On top of this, most of the MLW/"straight" relationships have ended badly, usually with one or more of the characters involved dying, i.e. "Bury Your Straights". This has led to many jokes that cis/het/allo people are a minority, sometimes to the point that they are discriminated against, usually in ways that which are blatant satire towards homophobia in real life.
- Penis SMP. ExplanationA Tumblr user made a post mocking how Dream SMP fans sound, by making up an event involving two players named shittyfartbaby69 and penisunavailable, and an execution by electric chair. Dream SMP fans on Tumblr found the post and absolutely ran with it, creating dozens of characters with equally terrible names, entire seasons worth of lore, as well as actual skins, fanart, fanfiction and animatics of these characters, to the point where "Penis SMP" got to number 3 on Tumblr's Trending tab. Be aware that all of this happened within the first 24 hours or so of the concept existing, to the point that there are many fans joking about them speedrunning fandomization. There's even an actual roleplay server based on the concept being made, and since then, the tag shot up to #12 on the site's weekly web-based fandom recap, and as of 9 August 2021, there has been at least one entire article written about it.
- The devil works hard, but Dream SMP fans work harder. ExplanationThe Dream SMP fandom reacts to new lore developments very quickly, creating elaborate fanart, fanfiction and animatics within hours of the latest lore stream, to the point that many joke about them "speedrunning" fan works... and as demonstrated by the Penis SMP saga above, it's not just limited to canonical lore either.
- Quackity is a discount Dream. ExplanationAs of May 22nd, Quackity has manipulated Purpled, a minor at the time. Of course, the instant references to Dream, a known minor-manipulator, were to be expected.
- "Ponk has two hands… oh wait." ExplanationWith the emergence of the Sam-Ponk-Foolish Love Triangle, the meme "[X] has two hands" (encouraging that the triangle be solved with an open or polyamorous relationship between the three involved) is naturally brought out as a response. Unfortunately for Ponk, one of his arms have been chopped off by Sam, causing fans to poke fun of this.
- In the same vein, you might often see people saying something along the lines of "Sam really took Ponk's hand in marriage, huh?" …for the same reason.
- Citizen POV. ExplanationA reference to the Gotham Citizen POV memes. There have been many memes about the lives of hapless citizens living on the server while all the drama around them happens, whether it be an important lore event or something ridiculously everyday, or whether the citizen is an Unfazed Everyman or the Only Sane Man who just wants a normal life amidst the chaos. There have also been instances of Twitter users pretending to live-tweet DSMP events as though they lived on the server, and to be cheating on history tests about the history (lore) of the SMP. This is especially prominent because of the implications that the viewers are part of the server as well, whether they be in the form of various canonized chats or the Twitter poll responses in preparation for big lore events, e.g. the L'Manburg Elections.
- Gay ptide. ExplanationTubbo tweeted this during Pride Month 2020. Whether the misspelled word was an intentional or a legitimate mistake, several LGBTQ+ fans started using it. It became even more popular when Tubbo tweeted it again on the first day of Pride Month 2021, after fans asked him to do so because it would be funny... and he does it again on the first day of Pride Month 2022.
- Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss. ExplanationStemming from the popular meme itself, fans sort characters on the SMP, usually the "villainous" characters, into the three 'categories' in the meme. In many cases, Dream is assigned the 'gaslight' role (for manipulating various people on the server, most notably 3/4 of the teenage population at the time), Wilbur the 'gatekeep' role (for allegedly banning non-Europeans from L'Manburg), and Quackity the 'girlboss' role (for his capitalist arc, among other reasons).
- Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss Guilt-trip. ExplanationAn extended version of the meme stemming from this post on Tumblr, which adds Techno in as the 'guilt-trip' role. There have since been many other additions which target other content creators on the SMP and bring them into the meme.
- "Yeah, they totally fucked." ExplanationAfter Quackity's April 12th stream, where he addresses Wilbur as his "dearest friend" in a note, among other things, the two character's past relationship is brought into light; which is further 'encouraged' by the May 22nd stream, where Wilbur finds Quackity's note and rushes to meet Quackity in Las Nevadas. This prompted many to speculate the nature of their relationship, with numerous fans coming to the conclusion that they have had romantic/sexual relations with each other at one point (as characters). Needless to say, Tommy and Wilbur's visit to Las Nevadas on May 31st, which involved a lot of lampshading on Tommy's part and Ship Tease on Wilbur's part, has only added fuel to the fire to these speculations.
- Someone get Wilbur an AO3 account. ExplanationIn a Reddit comment, Wilbur explained that part of Revivedbur's fascination with Quackity was because Q saw him as an "unpredictable" human, and not "insane", "evil", or a "freak", and Revivedbur, in return, saw him as "someone to keep him going, run him faster". Many fans were quick to point out the homoeroticism in the statement and beg for Wilbur to get an Archive of Our Own account to write his Slash Fic involving his Minecraft self-insert OC there instead of on Reddit. This eventually becomes Hilarious in Hindsight when Wilbur eventually reveals he is going to post his character lore on AO3 (due to the Schedule Slippage of his fellow content creators) as a short story, which means Wilbur did get himself an AO3 account.
- Snowchester pride flag. ExplanationSeveral fans have noted the similarities between the flag of Snowchester◊ and one of the pride flags for gay men, those being a similar colour scheme of turquoise/teal, white, and blue stripes. This has led to jokes about characters, usually Tommy, confusing the two flags with each other, especially after Tubbo (the founder and leader of Snowchester) married Ranboo in the roleplay.
- Containment breach! ExplanationA term used by some fans of not just the Dream SMP, but the MCYT community as a whole, to refer to incidences where content creators known for playing Minecraft (and/or their fans) interact with (or are referenced in) the "normal" world (people outside the fandom) in the most unexpected ways. It can be something as simple as Tumblr posts that can be interpreted as both MCYT-related and -unrelated, or people looking into the fandom from an outsider's perspective, but the most egregious and infamous examples include BadBoyHalo the chicken (mentioned above), Trump having Twitter beef with Quackity (see the Funny page), Minecraft Championship 14 making Australian ABC News (featuring Jack Manifold in a blue wig), and the "Ranboo, My Beloved" billboard in Times Square (mentioned above). A collection of some of the most iconic 'containment breaches' can be found here.
- Bad laid the Egg! ExplanationDuring an interview on Fox News between news anchor Tucker Carlson and Tiara Soleim, Tiara reveals that one of her chickens is named BadBoyHalo, and later confirms on Instagram that yes, it's after the streamer. Cue the jokes and conspiracy theories about how Bad was the one who laid the Egg, considering how he is the de facto leader of the Eggpire.
- There have been just as many comments about checking the scenario off the 2021 bingo card due to how surreal it is, and how we are currently in the right/wrong timeline, depending on who you ask.
- "IS THAT THE L'MANBURG FLAG?!" ExplanationOn 24/25 July 2021, a L'Manburg flag was spotted in a photo of London protesters at an anti-vaccination rally, next to a Trump2024 flag. This bewildered many Dream SMP fans as one of the largest 'containment breaches' of the fandom to date. However, since the flag of L'Manburg, a fictional nation-state advocating for freedom and against tyranny, is one of the first search results when you look up "freedom flag", it's not that surprising that people on the alt-right managed to find it on the Internet. The meme only reignited when this happened again in mid-December of the same year in Perth, Australia... and something similar happened again when someone watching porn found a L'Manburg flag in the background of the video. Since then, finding L'Manburg flags in places they shouldn't be in itself, from pride parades and political protests to pornography (apparently) has become a meme of the "Containment Breach" variety.
- "What part of Charlotte's Web am I missing?" ExplanationIn a classic example of a "containment breach", on more than one occasion, non-DSMP fans have stumbled across posts about Wilbur Soot (the character), usually on Tumblr. Of course, since 'Wilbur' isn't a very common name in the Western world anymore, the outsiders often jump to the conclusion that the post was referring to the pig from Charlotte's Web of the same given name and get immensely confused by the post, which DSMP fans delight in lightheartedly teasing. Very occasionally, in a twist of fate, Wilbur Soot might be mistaken for Wilbur Robinson instead.
- "Flashbacks to my parents' divorce." ExplanationOn two separate occasions, Quackity got into a divorce-esque situation, the first time being the White House argument against Schlatt, and the second being the Las Nevadas visit with Wilbur, and Tommy witnessed both incidences occurring. Fans in the YouTube comments section of the relevant VODs and videos are very quick to compare the situations to divorces or familial conflicts, and notably, just after the White House destruction incident, one of Quackity's viewers donated with the message that it reminded them of when their parents argued.
- Wilbur, you fucking monster. ExplanationWilbur (the real-life one) often likes to troll his fans by proclaiming ridiculous things as canon, such as his canon counterpart banging a literal fish. The highlight of this meme, however, is his treatment of Ghostbur, saying he is having a completely horrible time in the Afterlife and was completely broken. Given that Ghostbur was The Cutie, fans started calling out Wilbur on how he makes them suffer. In particular, many reblog or comment chains on Tumblr have involved users tagging Wilbur's old Tumblr account with the message "fuck you" for this very reason.
- All warfare is based. ExplanationA perfectly cut version of a Dream SMP fan-song ("Voices", by Derivakat). The full line is "All warfare is based in deception."
- The Dashcon Ballpit. ExplanationIn one of Philza's streams, Wilbur (the content creator) revealed that most of the members of the Dream SMP had sent him messages describing what their version of the Afterlife looks like, and that Ranboo's is especially cruel. Fans immediately started joking that Ranboo's Afterlife is the ball pit from Dashcon.
- TommyInnit possession theory. ExplanationTommy (the real life one) continuously refuses to answer even the most basic questions about his character while not in canon, to the point where even a question like "What does your character do in his free time?" goes unanswered. Fans, mainly on Tumblr, have created a crack theory that whenever Tommy goes live on the Dream SMP, he just blacks out for an hour and a half while his in-universe character takes control of his body.
- "c![X] implies the existence of cc![X]." ExplanationThe prefixes c! (short for "character") and cc! (short for content creator) are used in the fandom to distinguish between the characters and content creators, as they largely share the same names. However, sometimes the c! prefix will accidentally be used for characters that are very distinct from the people that play them, like Mexican Dream or Ghostbur, where the distinction is not only unneeded, but implies the existence of a content creator with the same name.
- Six: The Musical AU. ExplanationWilbur (the content creator and his character combined) has a large number of love interests, to the point that fans are able to jokingly make a "Six: the Musical" parody out of it, starring Wilbur as Henry VIII, and the six "ex-wives" being (in no particular order) Sally the salmon, Friend the sheep (stemming from Ghostbur's mistranslation into Dutch that the sheep was his girlfriend), Quackity, Ace Race, Schlatt, and the brown M&M. And yes, there are animatics made for this AU — see one example for yourself here, and click here to see OP being haunted by this post.
- Philza is old. / Philza has hearing problems. ExplanationPhil Hand Waved the huge pause between lore streams by claiming he heard Techno said to open his will in 3 months instead of 3 days. This reignited the jokes about Philza being immortal and not understanding the concept of time.
- "Awww, what, Dream? You wanna go to the courtyard? You wanna maybe see the CHRISTMAS TREE?" ExplanationPeople were quick to make fun of Dream for complaining about the living conditions on the prison he himself designed, and tied it to how he treated Tommy in Exile.
- "Oh, we're using our made-up DSMP lore?" ExplanationThis picture of Peter Parker from Avengers: Infinity War quickly became a standard response to anyone either making up or grossly misinterpreting lore events to support their argument. Ironically, the original user who created the meme was apparently a c!Dream apologist.
- When the bunker is sus. ExplanationStarting on 17 September 2021, Foolish started constructing the Las Nevadas bunker, styled as an exact replica of the classic Among Us map, "The Skeld". About a week later, as the bunker gradually started to take shape, fans started joking about the bunker being "sus", while anticipating Quackity's reaction to the bunker in the midst of a mental breakdown.
- "It's going to be so sad when [X]... y'know..." ExplanationA DSMP related Tiktok went viral after the poster included the caption "It's going to be so sad when Philza... y'know...", elaborating that, because Phil is older, he may not have long left... despite the fact that at the time of posting, Phil was in his early thirties. The quote quickly became a copypasta, to the point it gets referenced by the content creators themselves on Twitter. This eventually becomes an Ascended Meme in Dream's January 14th 2022 lore video, where he considers using Philza as his human guinea pig for testing the revive-book, claiming that he is "pretty old" and doesn't have much time left anyway. In turn, this only caused the meme to reignite.
- OP is a Dream stan. ExplanationDream, and the Dream SMP by extension, have over time accrued quite the Hatedom, especially on Tumblr. If a post made by a DSMP fan gets so big it breaches containment, expect at least one person in the notes to say "OP is a Dream stan" or something to a similar effect. While some fans are annoyed at being (often falsely) labeled as Dream stans for liking DSMP, or at the implication that liking DSMP makes you a bad person, some choose to wear it as a badge of honor.
- "I don't give a FUCK about [X]. I don't give a fuck about ANYTHING, actually! I care about [Y]!" ExplanationThe speech where Dream proclaims he doesn't care about anything except the discs has become a copypasta, and gets employed regularly, especially in regards to Season 3's Schedule Slip.
- Dream's mixtape. ExplanationAfter Tommy found a modified version of the music disc "11" under his base that played snippets of his conversation with Dream over it, many people started joking about Dream recording all of the abuse he put Tommy through to turn into a Voice Clip Song.
- MCC is canon. ExplanationDue to the majority of Dream SMP members also being contestants in MCC, and references to MCC being made in canon, plenty of fans consider it common knowledge that MCC is canon to the story of the SMP. This inevitably leads to jokes about event organizer Scott Smajor being a sort of demigod, who is apparently able to bargain with Sam over letting Dream out of jail for the day, can put Dream on a team with Tommy (read: a child abuser and his victim in the roleplay) without any issues, and is capable of breaking into hell itself to deliver Wilbur's invitation.
- "I can't believe real-life content creator [X] is/did [something related to their DSMP character]." ExplanationThere have been several instances of people outside of the fandom calling out the fans for supposedly writing Real-Person Fic about the content creators doing horrible things, either not knowing that the fics are about the characters in the roleplay instead of the actual people or insisting that there is no difference between the two; it doesn't help that most of the characters share names with their content creators. Fans have taken to sarcasm when dealing with the latter type, pretending that the content creators actually did/are what their characters did/are in real life (e.g. that cc!Dream actually abused and manipulated cc!Tommy, that cc!Karl is actually a time traveller, and that cc!Tubbo is actually in possession of nukes).
The meme has spread to various other Minecraft roleplay fandoms due to the series taking place in a similar medium to the DSMP, with similar claims that the real-life Moon crashed into the Earth, content creators GoodTimesWithScar and Grian beat each other to death in a ring of cacti in real life (don't worry, they got better), the real world exploded because a fish-man and an inventor tried to mix cod and salmon together, etc. - "@sootings fuck you" ExplanationThe Tumblr side of the fanbase discovered Wilbur's old, inactive Tumblr blog. Every time something bad happens within the Dream SMP's lore, expect several threads to be created for the sole purpose of telling Wilbur's abandoned blog what they think of his writing choices.
- Dream is out. ExplanationDream's lore video ended on this phrase, which was meant to be an ominous introduction to Season 4. Many people quickly photoshopped a rainbow flag over a still of this video, and congratulated Dream on his coming out of the closet.
- It's morally right to kill Fortniters. ExplanationSince Vikkstar and LazarBeam are both well-known for their Fortnite content and the game is an acceptable target in many circles (especially among fans of Minecraft, the platform on which the Dream SMP takes place), some fans have joked that Dream did nothing wrong by using them as human guinea pigs to test the properties of the revive book.
- People change like the tides in the ocean, at least I think, or am I [X] [WRONG]? ExplanationThe first line of Dream's song "Roadtrip" is "People change like the tides in the ocean, at least I think, or am I dead wrong?". Twitter users often cut out the last two words of the line, then post a picture of a Dream SMP character who recently lost a canon life, then a picture of the word "wrong" after it.
- [X] smiled. [X] jumped. ExplanationThe sixth- and fifth-to-last lines in The Wilbur Van were "Ranboo smiled. Ranboo jumped.", in reference to him committing a Spiteful Suicide. Fan reaction goes that it quickly became a narmy copypasta across social media.
- Your Roleplay Gave Me Trauma. Fuck you, Wilbur. ExplanationIn response to every other bad thing that has happened in the Dream SMP lore, some fans post an edited image of the cover of Wilbur's album Your City Gave Me Asthma, but with the title changed to "Your Roleplay Gave Me Trauma", which is often accompanied with the small subtitle that reads "Fuck you, Wilbur", since he was the Head Writer for Season 1.
- "Soon." ExplanationMany content creators announce on social media that they would be posting lore "soon"... which, in the Dream SMP fandom, can mean anything between "in a few hours" and "a year from now". Due to the Schedule Slip in lore in Season 3, fans tend to react to such announcements in skepticism in whether content creators would actually be posting lore material within a more conventional definition of "soon".
- The DSM-5. ExplanationThe Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) is the main source of criteria for diagnosing psychiatric disorders in the US. Given that the Dream SMP is a Crapsack World and a petri dish for mental disorders among the characters, along with the two's similar titles/names, some fans have started to "mistake" one for the other (both intentionally and accidentally), often by misreading or mistyping the DSM-5 as the DSMP.
- "None of this would have happened if they just allowed Coconut2020 to commit voter fraud." ExplanationIn the L'Manburg Presidential Election, Fundy attempted to rig the votes in favour of his party, Coconut2020, with approximately 120,000 fraudulent votes being supplied from the same IP address. Wilbur found out about this and disqualified the fraudulent votes, which led to the election of SchWAG2020 and indirectly, the much more serious arcs following the Elections. As a result of this, many fans joke that all the pain and trauma that ensued as a result of the Elections wouldn't have happened if Fundy got away with committing voter fraud. In all Tumblr re-iterations of the election poll after the end of Volume 1, Coconut2020 has won every time.
- Quackbur kissing fanart. ExplanationOne infamous piece of fanart of Quackity and Wilbur's characters kissing by _olga.exe_ on Twitter and Instagram has gone viral on the Tumblr side of the fandom, so much that many fans are able to recognize it by its colour scheme, even when it's heavily pixelated.
- The One Alex Limit. ExplanationTechnoblade's real-life given name is revealed to be 'Alexander' posthumously, consequently sharing a real-life (nick-)name with Quackity. Because of their characters being arch-enemies to each other, fans joke that the actual reason the two characters hate each other so much is because they share a given name, either attempting to prove they are the better Alex or because of a There Can Be Only One mindset.
- Variations of this meme include and are not limited to 'the Alex fight'*Named after the memetic Josh fight, in which a man named Josh contacted other people sharing his name on Facebook to "fight" him in the middle of Nebraska a year from then for having the privilege to be named 'Josh', 'Alex on Alex Violence'*Especially in reference to their duel in the Final Control Room, and 'internalized Alexphobia' (which is quite self-explanatory).
- "ALEX JUST HIT ALEX WITH A PICKAXE!" ExplanationA Metaphorically True description of what happens during the two's duel in the Final Control Room. The joke is that no one clarifies which Alex did what; for context, it was Alex Technoblade that won the fight, not Alex Quackity.
- Steve and Alex. ExplanationOn a related note, fans quickly deduce that Steve, Techno the character's pet polar bear, has a Punny Name when used in conjunction with Techno the content creator's real-life name.
- Wilbur's lore finale livestream spawned a couple of memes in of themselves:
- C U in UT. ExplanationThe teaser for the livestream prompted intense speculation among the fandom to what it even means, with many joking about its resemblance to a certain C-word. As events come to pass, it turns out it's short for "See You in Utah (UT)".
- Fucking Utah. ExplanationThe livestream reveals his backstory of allegedly being born and raised in Utah and sailing to the Dream SMP lands, bewildering fans by how absurd the claim seems to be, starting from (and not limited to) the fact that Utah is a landlocked state, making the backstory claim factually impossible unless he sailed up and down the rivers to the Pacific. There are also plenty of fans who seize the opportunity to make fun of the American state in general, hence the Mormon jokes.
- We take back everything we said about Utah. ExplanationWilbur's lore finale initially attracted some fan criticism over how it is unable to resolve certain plot threads and how out-of-the-blue The Reveal was. However, after Tommy's lore finale (which involved, among other controversies both in- and out-of-universe, a fictional abuse victim dying from suicide by proxy and befriending his abuser as an amnesiac), many of those fans have retracted their criticism on the 'Utah' ending being "bad" because at least it was bittersweet and allows Wilbur's character to have some semblance of closure and an opportunity to heal.
- Name a more iconic trio than the Dream Team. ExplanationA Dream SMP fan on Twitter arrogantly claimed that the Dream Team was the most iconic trio ever and challenged others to name one that's more iconic. It became a meme in a similar vein to The Last of Us Part 2's "Name a character who went through more pain than her.
