- Princess Aurora from Child of Light is paired with the boy from Limbo a good deal in fan art. It may be because both of them are young children who wake up in a scary lonely forest and set out to reunite with a family member in an atmospheric game with heavy Light/Darkness Juxtaposition. And both of them died before the start of the game.
- The Batter from Off / Scout from Team Fortress 2 happens to pop up in fanart sometimes, mostly due to their affinity for bats.
- Kirby/Bow (Paper Mario), in the Paper Mario X series. It's kinda cute.
- Jack (BioShock) / Chell from Portal. Both heavily screwed over by amoral science and their increasingly untrustworthy Mission Control- they'd have so much to not talk about!
- Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog) x Sash Lilac (Freedom Planet) due to the similarities in their games and both characters being speedsters.
- Beat (Jet Set Radio)/Ulala (Space Channel 5) is a somewhat known cross-pairing. It helps that both characters are from Sega games that involve music (JSR isn't a Rhythm Game though, but it does greatly involve music), both of their games take place in the future (well, JSRF does, but the first JSR doesn't), and you can see the two sliding across the room together at the end of the SegaNet commercial (at around the 0:55-0:56 mark, you gotta be quick with the pause button). Many people also liked putting the two on one team together in Sega Superstars Tennis's doubles matches.
- The Dragonborn (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim) and Doug Rattmann (Portal). Yup.
- Laharl (Disgaea: Hour of Darkness) and Marona (Phantom Brave).
- Klonoa x Cream (Sonic the Hedgehog).
- Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog)/Klonoa seems to be a relatively popular one amongst the Furry Fandom, perhaps inspired by a certain doujinshi featuring the two... ehm, hanging out after work. That the two already looked similar doesn't hurt, either.
- Estelle (Tales of Vesperia) / Jin Kisaragi (BlazBlue) Here.
- Within the Tales Series, Yuri (Tales of Vesperia)/Luke (Tales of the Abyss) has a surprisingly big following and a lot of adorable fanart. Some of the spinoff games and animations have also teased Luca (Tales of Innocence)/Emil (Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World) and Yuri (Vesperia/Guy (Abyss).
- Morrigan (Dragon Age: Origins) and Shepard (Mass Effect). Or really any combination of the characters from the Dragon Age and Mass Effect universes. Or try Shepard and Admiral Thrawn.
- Outside of fellow Nintendo character, Samus from Metroid has Master Chief from Halo, Nicole from Dead or Alive (couresty of Haloid), Iron Man, and even Jango Fett from Star Wars (joked about by Nintendo Power at one point). Even Doomguy gets shipped with her on occasion.
- Bayonetta x Dante (Devil May Cry), as well as their rivals, Jeanne x Vergil.
- Bayonetta is also frequently paired up with Kratos (God of War) as well. And as for a friendly but not romantic pairing, Bayonetta x Juliet Starling (Lollipop Chainsaw).
- With her inclusion into Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, she's often shipped with the representatives from Kid Icarus: Uprising, especially Pit and Palutena.
- Video game animal ships: Agro (Shadow of the Colossus) / Epona (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time). Both are horses that the main character uses to ride throughout their respective games, and the main characters of both games are Bishōnen. And, if you look closely through things like the artbook, you'll find that Agro is in fact female, making this a Ho Yay pairing.
- Nintendo characters have the crossover Mascot Fighter series Super Smash Bros. to aid with this. The fandom has far more crossover shipping than shipping characters from the same franchise.
- Samus Aran from Metroid gets this a lot. On the het side of things are Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid, Captain Falcon from F-Zero (as seen in Brawl in the Family), Link from The Legend of Zelda, and Pit from Kid Icarus. On the femslash side of things, we have Zelda (specifically her stoic Twilight Princess persona used in Brawl and 4), followed by Peach from Super Mario Bros. (which came to rival Twilight Princess Zelda in popularity after that version was replaced in Ultimate), and Bayonetta. But overall, you can expect to find fanart and fics of Samus getting romantic (or seductive) with a good amount of the roster, from 'Mega Man to Wii Fit Trainer to Little Mac, with the occasional threesome pairing to make things more fun.
- Kirby/Jigglypuff have been seen as a Smash couple since Day One, though Meta Knight/Jigglypuff has some popularity.
- Peach has a lot of ships as well. Outside the aforementioned Samus, there's Twilight Princess Zelda (and sometimes her Sheik persona specifically) thanks to their interesting Lady and Knight dynamic in the story mode, Link (funnily enough, the "princess swap" doesn't go the other way, and Mario/Zelda fics are nonexistent), and even Sonic.
- One particular case of a ship between Peach and Link without a similar one between Mario and Zelda is a DeviantArt picture where Peach and Link, wearing each other's clothes, are trying to convince Mario and Zelda to do the same. Khaos Omega implemented this one as a way for Link to trigger the loophole to the level 3400 "effect" of Meme Storm via Marth.
- Marth, Roy, Ike (all from Fire Emblem), and Link (The Legend of Zelda) have been shipped with anyone and everyone (the female characters, each other, etc.) since the Gamecube era.
- Adding fuel to the great old ship: Sonic the Hedgehog / Mario (Super Mario Bros.).
- Some people even pair Sonic with either Samus (Metroid), Zelda (The Legend of Zelda) or Peach (Super Mario Bros.).
- There Will Be Brawl also gives us Captain Falcon (F-Zero) / Pit (Kid Icarus).
- Bara fans seem to love any combination of Captain Falcon/Snake/Ganondorf.
- Sometimes, Bowser and Ganondorf are a couple, being the most iconic villains of Nintendo.
- Less than a day after she was announced as playable in SSB4, the Wii Fit Trainer became a launcher of ships as well, with Link and Samus being the most popular.
- Thanks to this image◊, Lucina (Fire Emblem: Awakening)/Palutena (Kid Icarus) is giving Zelda/Samus a run for its money as the most popular femslash ship in the fandom.
- There's at least one person who ships Samus/Dark Pit (Kid Icarus: Uprising).
- After Ultimate was unveiled at E3 2018, there was Daisy (Super Mario Land) and Ridley (Metroid), both revealed as newcomers that day. It has a lot to do with the incongruous Beast and Beauty set-up along with Memetic Psychopath Daisy being paired with the canon psychopath Ridley.
- Isabelle and Wolf is also a notable ship as evidenced by this video and a bit of shipping art depicting the couple; the ship itself seems to be based mostly on the Pitbull Dates Puppy trope.
- There's quite a bit of fanart of Link (The Legend of Zelda)/Amaterasu (Ōkami). Understandable given the former is a wolf in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
- Final Fantasy:
- Pairing Noctis of Final Fantasy XV (formerly known as Final Fantasy versus XIII) and Lightning of Final Fantasy XIII is very popular and has been even before the release of either game.
- And because she's designed as his distaff counterpart, Lightning is also frequently paired up with Cloud from FFVII.
- Dissidia Final Fantasy, being a massive in-series crossver, generated far too many crossover ships to list. Among the more prominent are Vaan/Terra (XII and VI), Bartz/Squall/Zidane (or "589"), and Exdeath/Cloud of Darkness (V and III).
- The thieves, pirates, and otherwise Loveable Rogues from various games are sometimes paired up, like Setzer (VI) and Balthier (XII), or Leila (II) and Faris (V).
- Garnet (Final Fantasy IX) x Noctis (Final Fantasy XV) has not only developed a following on YouTube, it even has fic now. Yes.
- Kingdom Hearts' setting leaves room for a lot of pairings for crossover romances between Final Fantasy, Disney, and almost anything in-between. An in-series example of Ship Tease would be Zack Fair from Crisis Core asking Original Generation Aqua for a date in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, with Aqua becoming visibly flustered.
- From Dead Fantasy: The crossover shipping of Cloud and Yuna.
- Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII) and Raiden (Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty) are shipped somewhat frequently due to their similar personalities and names drawing from the same theme. They even have their own ship name, Rain.
- Anders (Dragon Age II) / Kain (Final Fantasy IV) has been sighted (the fic in question had them meeting in the Fade somehow). Maybe it makes some kind of cracky sense given their common status as party members straddling the hero/villain line, but that's about it.
- There is a surprising following in Japan for Reimu (Touhou Project) and an Elvaan knight from Final Fantasy XI named "Buront" in Japanese Image Boards. Here is worksafe example. And they've apparently adopted Rumia. It is based on a Real Trailer Fake Game on nicovideo called The Iron of Yin and Yang.
- Marvel vs. Capcom:
- Ever since the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 trailer came out, people have started shipping Iron Man with Morrigan (Darkstalkers). Considering she appears to be seducing him that and trailer and they both have particularly amorous reputations...
- Morrigan's stabbing Deadpool in the ass with her tentacles and Chris Redfield (Resident Evil) performing a Diving Save to prevent Morrigan from falling to her death after Iron Man gets a sneak attack in on her. These are used as Shipping Goggles "evidence" for Chris/Morrigan and (humorously so) Deadpool/Morrigan.
- Morrigan seems to be switch-hitting between Tony and Chris in the openings. In the Episode 2 trailer, after Iron Man saves Viewtiful Joe but fails to do the same for Amaterasu (Ōkami), Morrigan saves Ammy and then blows a kiss to Iron Man. In the Episode 4 trailer, the last shot is a still showing all of heroes and villains duking it out... except for Morrigan, who is seen lovingly wrapping her arms around a flustered Chris, perhaps as a way of saying thanks for saving her in Episode 1.
- There's been a boom in Dante (Devil May Cry)/Morrigan (which had been around at least a few years prior to MvC3); it's probably Dante's most popular ship next to/alongside Dante/Bayonetta. In a Mythology Gag to Dante's meeting with Nevan in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, the two are seen flirting if they're on point against one another. Dante's also says, "Mmm, baby. I love it when a girl gets violent!" at his win screen should he defeat Morrigan last in battle.
- In C. Viper's reveal trailer (Street Fighter IV), Iron Man is hitting on C. Viper in the pre-match intro, causing some to ship them as well. Iron Man and Morrigan seem to launch ships left and right.
- Iron Man hits on every female in this game not named Amaterasu. This includes Tron Bonne (Mega Man Legends) and X-23, who are respectively 14 and 16, as well as Hsien-Ko (Darkstalkers), who is (technically speaking) dead. Fans jokingly suggest that the only reason he doesn't go after Ammy is because he doesn't know that Ammy is a she. Should he win against any of them, he muses, "Told you... a nice candlelight dinner would've been better." Should he win against Morrigan, his quote at the win screen reads as such:"I think we can sort out our differences over dinner. I'll have the best chefs flown in."
- The above Iron Man examples are all compounded by this web animation.
- There's Hulk and Felicia. It's rather cute.
- Felicia (Darkstalkers) and Super Skrull (Fantastic Four) appeared together on one game-affiliated t-shirt. Cue the fans on Capcom's official forums shipping them together.
- Thanks to the Episode 4 trailer of MvC3, Final Fight's Haggar/Felicia.
- Felicia has a humorous win quote against Deadpool: "No, I don't care how much catnip you have, I'm not getting into the car with you!" How you interpret this one is up to you.
- Morrigan apparently has a fancy for Wolverine (her quote at the win screen reads, "You have a beastly charm I just find so, so intriguing"). She also cameos in his ending as an exotic dancer trying to seduce him. Wolverine relents to her whimsy... but not before he finishes his drink.
- Chun-Li (Street Fighter II) surprisingly has the hots for Thor (The Mighty Thor)."Tall, blond, and handsome—you're my type of guy... But do you have to carry that hammer everywhere?"
- In his quote at the win screen, Viewtiful Joe finds She-Hulk to be attractive. The same could be same for Spencer (Bionic Commando (2009)), who goes on a sort-of-but-not-quite-date with her in his ending.
- Morrigan's ending has her openly flirting with Mephisto and Sattanish.
- Crossover Shipping in Marvel vs. Capcom this series actually happened before MvC3. As early as Marvel vs. Capcom 1 did Gambit's ending have him flirting with none other than Morrigan (her total number of ships, excluding a few dubious examples in 3 note , is up to eight right now, if you lost count). Before anything can get off of the ground, Rogue swoops in to carry Gambit away, much to Morrigan's displeasure.
- Shuma-Gorath (Doctor Strange) displays a creepy fondness for Hsien-Ko (Darkstalkers), going as far as to propose to make her his bride. Also, Morrigan herself shows an interest in Shuma's tentacles.
- In Ultimate, Morrigan blatantly hits on Phoenix Wright (Ace Attorney). Blatantly. And then there's Rocket Raccoon having the hots for Ammy... By the way, 95% of the examples above come from the game itself. This isn't even getting into Fan Art. Marvel vs. Capcom 3: If it breathes, this game will ship it.
- A few notables on the Fan Art side of MvC shipping include Dormammu (Doctor Strange)/Trish (Devil May Cry), Iron Man/Morrigan (Darkstalkers), Ghost Rider/Felicia (Darkstalkers), and both Spider-Man/Morrigan and Spider-Man/Chun-Li (Street Fighter). Fan Fiction tends to lag behind in this arena as there are only a few Marvel vs. Capcom stories out there.
- Morrigan/She-Hulk, with one of the most likely contributors being this piece of Pixiv fan art. (Just look at the buzz it got when posted on the game's Facebook page, for starters.)
- In the wake of Marvel 3 and Project × Zone, people have commented on pairing Hsien-Ko (Darkstalkers) and Frank West (Dead Rising). It helps that in the latter, they're frequently seen together.
- There's a decent following out there for Russia (Hetalia: Axis Powers) / Yuuka (Touhou Project), seeing as they're non-human psychotics with a mutual thing for flowers.
- Some Touhou Project fans ship Yuyuko and Kirby as a Theme Pairing, because they share a common interest.
- There's also a small following for Flandre Scarlet and Broly (Dragon Ball Z).
- The fan community for M.U.G.E.N has spawned an incredible amount of crossover ships. Perhaps the most well known of them is the Crack Ship of Hong Meiling and Krizalid.
- Most Touhou heterosexual pairings are Crossover Ships due to the setting.
- Sakuya Izayoi and Dio Brando (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure), due to their time manipulation abilities and extensive use of throwing knives. Certainly helps that Sakuya has a spellcard called "The World", a Shout-Out to Dio Brando's signature Stand.
- Alice Margatroid and Sasori from Naruto have a small fanbase of their own, specially among Asian fans, due to both being puppeters.
- These last two sort of lost their popularity thanks to 1 Minute Melee.
- Some artists had paired Spamton G. Spamton (Deltarune) together with Chimata Tenkyuu. Common traits include patchwork-like clothing, wild color choices, business motifs, and rather eccentric and egotistical personalities.
- Nathan Drake (Uncharted) x Lara Croft (Tomb Raider).
- Order-Sol (Guilty Gear) x Fiona Mayfield (Arcana Heart) is a relatively popular one over on pixiv.
- Heavy Weapons Guy (Team Fortress 2) and Bullet (BlazBlue: Chronophantasma) seems to be catching on thanks to fans combining the latter female with Heavy's famous "I've yet to meet one who can outsmart bullet." line from "Meet the Heavy."
- Heavy and Zarya (Overwatch) have a lot of fans owing to Heavy being a big Russian man and Zarya a big Russian woman, both of whom are patriots from multiplayer FPS team battle arena games that use guns almost as big as they are.
- Heathen Mason (Silent Hill 3) and Paxton Fettel (First Encounter Assault Recon) seems to have gained a rather small following on tumblr, despite the rather strong contrast of moralities.
- There exists a fic of Frost (Mortal Kombat) with Raven (Teen Titans (2003)) that's actually not too bad. Here it is, for those of you who wanna have a gander.
- Davion, the Dragon Knight (Dota 2), meet, Syvana, the Half Dragon (League of Legends). A sweet reminder that both MOBA games can find something common to enjoy together (at the expense of Teemo).
- Due to them being fellow Kickstarter buddies developed by Inti Creates, Beck from Mighty No. 9 and Shantae from... well, Shantae have some fan following.
- There's a few The Last of Us Ellie / The Walking Dead (Telltale)'s Clem shippers out there, with a few fics and one Alternate Universe Tumblr.
- The surprisingly adorable Crossover Shoujo-Ai pairing of Shizuku Osaka (Love Live! School idol festival) X Hilda (Pokémon Black and White) has been gaining a small following on DeviantArt lately.
- Alex Mercer ([PROTOTYPE]) x Desmond Miles (Assassin's Creed), otherwise known as "Protocreed", has a following on Tumblr and a number of fanfics on Archive of Our Own.
- An intra-Capcom pairing, Resident Evil's Leon Kennedy and Haunting Ground's Fiona Belli. Some fans are of the opinion that Fiona's dog Hewie is the same white dog Leon saves outside Pueblo, and who returns to help against El Gigante. She is considerably more popular than Ashort Graham, to the point were Fiona is reskinned into 4 in Ashley's place.
- Saber (Fate/stay night) and Kohaku (Tsukihime). No, really. The couple appears in Doujin game Battle Moon Wars. And they're adorable. Kohaku loves to cook, Saber loves to eat; and they both understand wanting to live their lives over.
- Sakura Saber (Fate/Grand Order), the genderflipped version of Souji Okita, captain of The Shinsengumi, has been often been paired with the Drifters version of the vice-captain Hijikata Toshizou. The fact that Hijikata Toshizou has been added as a Berserker class in Fate/Grand Order makes it even more amusing. Fan artists have now made it a Love Triangle.
- Kiara Sessyoin from Fate/EXTRA and Belial from Granblue Fantasy too, because the former was rereleased at the same time as the latter was released, and both are extremely amorous.
- BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle has a ton of this, as it features four franchises (BlazBlue, Persona 4, Under Night In-Birth and RWBY) which are all notorious for shipping in a tag-team fighting game. Ragna x Ruby was a popular ship even before the release of the game, even having a ship name and fanart - being both red-and-black-clad scythe-wielders from fantasy-esque settings, as was Jin x Weiss. Probably one of the more interesting ones to stem from the game itself is Makoto x Yosuke; the two show up together in the game's intro, and Makoto is the only character besides Yu to be perfectly nice and respectful to him.
- Hyde Kido (Under Night In-Birth), surprisingly for a Clueless Chick-Magnet, gets a lot of crossover shipping with several girls he runs into the story, mainly Ruby (who he fights alongside against Yosuke and Chie and also meets again in Episode P4A's ending), Weiss (who he rescues from Azrael and Carmine and then they have a snark-off and finally part ways on quite friendly terms) and Yukiko (who he runs into and rescues from Noel's curry).
- There are fanart of the male Code Vein Protagonist pairing up with Hifumi Togo (Persona 5), in paying homage to vampire/human pairings. One can wonder the Code Vein Protagonist's edgy appearance blends in with Hifumi's Chuunibyou manners.
- Isabelle (Animal Crossing) and Doomguy (Doom), simply because of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Doom Eternal releasing on the same date.
- On a non-romantic note, DeviantArt has a truly surprising amount of art and stories about Tifa Lockhart adopting Chris Thorndyke. On a romantic side, a lot of those same artworks will also pair him up with Sherry Birkin.
- Lesbian example. There are a lot of people who ship Chun Li from the Street Fighter series with Mai Shiranui from The King of Fighters due to them both being women from fighting games.
- The fusion of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors, aka Warriors Orochi, played this to the extreme. Now we have Cao Pi/Mitsunari, Ling Tong/Okuni, Sun Shang Xiang/Inahime, Tachibana/XingCai, and so on and so forth. Also, Da Ji regularly hits on Sakon in the second game's Dream Mode levels. Guo Jia/Ina gets some shipping going on in the third game despite the fact that Ina is both canonically and historically married to Yukimura's brother.
- After an incident which involved porn of Tifa being shown at an Italian Senate Meeting. Tifa has been adopted as an Italian icon and has been unsurprisingly paired with fellow Italian icon Mario himself.
- There’s a couple of fanarts out there that ship Pyramid Head from Silent Hill with the Slender Man.
- Renamon and Lucario are a popular species crossover ship in the Furry Fandom, for one reason or another.
