    Hayato Kisaragi

Hayato Kisaragi

Hundred: Hien

Voiced by: Yoshiaki Hasegawa, Atsuko Katou [child] (Japanese), Ricco Fajardo (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hundred_hayato_kisaragi_2_2.jpg

The male protagonist of Hundred. Originally from Yamato, Hayato became a Slayer in order to obtain state-of-the-art medical treatment for his sister.

  • Above the Influence: In Volume 12, he and Emilia are left to recuperate in a room that Charlotte teasingly assures them has no cameras, and Emilia starts coming on him hard under the influence of her Variant virus. Even after getting a boner, Hayato tries his best to reign her in... and then they end up having sex anyway.
  • Accidental Pervert: As standard for any harem protagonist. He ends up in a lot of suggestive positions with women in his harem and beyond.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Had a lot of his memories erased from when he was a kid.
  • Dual Wielding: In Volume 5, he gets a second Hundred in the form of a white sword resembling Emilia's Arm Shroud after Douglas sabotages his first.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Sakura originally met Hayato and Karen at a shelter in Gudenberg but Hayato doesn't remember it.
  • Harem-Powered: The trope is Played With, in that Hayato gains a Power Limiter through his harem because he's a "Variant"—a Half-Human Hybrid caused by his DNA being infected with the Savage virus. Using too much of his Variant power can cause him to go berserk, unless the Savage virus is put under control. He can do this by "giving" some of the virus to someone else, via a kiss. If the person wasn't already a Variant themselves, they will become one by kissing him. In addition to this, two other women in his harem (Sakura and his little sister Karen) can also calm out-of-control Variants with their music.
  • Healthcare Motivation: His primary motive for becoming a Slayer was to gain free treatment for his sister Karen.
  • Instant Expert: After a mere two days of owning a Hundred and Hayato can already use its full body armament and deploy an n-barrier, things not a lot students know how to do. He overwhelms and nearly defeats Claire, who's considered the strongest Slayer in the academy. Granted, he was definitely not himself while doing those things.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: His Hundred, Hien, takes the form of a katana, reflecting his Yamato heritage.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Emilia, who is posing as male, is very clingy toward Hayato. Hayato is largely indifferent about it but from an outsider perspective they look like a couple. Karen even asks Hayato if he's interested in guys.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In the anime, if Hayato had just met the two girls waiting for him at the airport, he could've avoided the mishap with Claire trying to expel them for failing to bring him to the school.
  • Oblivious to Love: Several of the girls are interested in Hayato, but naturally he's too dense to realize it.
    • In the anime at least, he definitely realizes it, but wants to focus on getting his sister healthy. Plus, he's more than a little uncomfortable and unsure.
  • Raging Stiffie:
    • Part of Volume 4 cut out from the anime has Hayato, Emilia, Karen, Sakura and Miharu visiting Yamato. Before leaving, Emilia drags Hayato to an early morning mixed bath, where she hugs him from behind. The sensation of her breasts on his back ends up making him erect, which becomes an issue when the other three arrive at the bathhouse later. Only Miharu actually sees it, but she's merely amused.
    • In Volume 12, Emilia's virus riles her into aggressively coming on to Hayato, unzipping her Variable Suit to press her breasts on him. Hayato is trying his best to settle her down, but he gets hard, which Emilia notices. They end up having Their First Time.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He has red-ish eyes and while he's not evil, he does have a Superpowered Evil Side that basically has him go in full Berserk Mode.
  • Suck Out the Poison: He got infected with the Savage virus by trying to suck it out of Emilia's chest wound. He also did this to Touka after she got bitten by an infected dog.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: During Hayato's duel with Claire something inside him snaps causing his eyes to yellow, and become much more proficient and ruthless with his hundred. It is later explained that he was exposed to Savage blood when he was a kid, increasing his Hundred score. With help from Emilia, he learns to control it.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: As a Variant, Hayato has a high Hundred aptitude, but is a complete novice at using it, though he learns quickly enough to at least fight alongside his seniors.
  • Unwanted Harem: Whether he likes it or not, Hayato has a lot of girls interested in him.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: After landing on Little Garden, Hayato was supposed to be escorted to the academy by two other students, but the way they called out for him was a little embarrassing so he sneaks past them and goes to the academy by himself. This causes them to be late for Claire's speech (though they ended up late on their own in the novels) and nearly expelled.

    Emilia Hermit

Emilia Hermit/Gudenberg

Hundred: Arms Shroud

Voiced by: Rumi Ōkubo (Japanese), Mikaela Krantz (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emilia_looking_for_hayato.png

The female protagonist of Hundred. She is Hayato's childhood friend from the Britannia Empire 10 years ago, reuniting with him in Little Garden under the initial male identity "Emile Crossford".

  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Emilia gets rather upset any time Hayato is spending time with another girl. Or if another girl shows interest in him.
  • Clothing Damage: Emilia suffers this in episode three, which also doubles as an Unsettling Gender-Reveal to Claire, who thought she was a boy up until this point.
  • Compressed Hair: As "Emile", she wears a hair accessory that seems to contain most of her waist-length hair.
  • Expository Pronoun: She grew up using the standard "watashi", but switched to "boku" when she started crossdressing as "Emile" and generally continues using it even after her true gender becomes public. She notably reverts to her relatively more feminine original pronoun while asking Hayato to "accept" her right before they start having sex.
  • First Girl Wins: Hayato ends up with Emilia, who was the first girl he met both in the past and at the academy.
  • Godiva Hair: She has hair long enough to cover her nipples.
  • Hair Intakes: She has two large tufts on her head resembling cat ears.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: Her father is the King of Gudenburg, but her late mother was from Wenz, which Gudenburg viewed as backwater, resulting in Emilia getting stigmatized for her mixed blood.
  • Hated Hometown: Despite having the means to return to Gudenburg, Emilia frequently refuses to do so because of her strained relationship with its citizens as well as her mixed heritage. She only returns there when she has to.
  • Heroic Bastard: She's the illegitimate daughter of the King of Gudenburg and a woman of Wenz heritage. Since her mother not only wasn't the King's legal wife, but also from the stigmatized kingdom of Wenz, Emilia was kept secret for years.
  • Heroic BSoD: During the Third Attack, she suffers PTSD when she encounters a Savage like the one that scarred her as a child in the Second Attack.
  • Lord Country: While she officially goes under the surname "Hermit", her true surname is Gudenburg, as its third princess.
  • Morph Weapon: While her Arms Shroud appears to be a Dragoon-Type like Claire's Alisterion, it's actually a unique Innocence-Type capable of transforming into completely different weapons like swords and lances.
  • Mystical White Hair: The silver-haired Emilia is one of the few natural Variants and wields an extremely rare and adaptable Hundred.
  • Never Accepted in Her Hometown: Emilia grew up in ostracization because her mother was from Wenz, which had a poor relationship with Gudenburg. Understandably, she's not too eager to go back to her homeland.
  • Pretty Princess Powerhouse: Emilia is naturally more skilled than other Slayers as a Variant, and wields a shapeshifting Hundred for numerous fighting styles. She's also a princess, though she only learned how to fight after ditching her kingdom.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: It turns out Emilia wasn't simply hiding her gender as "Emile", but was also hiding her royalty under the fake surname "Hermit". Her real surname is Gudenburg, of which she is the third princess, though her mother's Wenz heritage was a sticking point for many.
  • Sarashi: While crossdressing as "Emile", she wears a sarashi so she can hide her breasts. Well, until the secret comes out, at least.
  • Scars Are Forever: She has a scar in the middle of her chest from a Savage attack, which also infected her with their virus. Exposing it (along with her breasts) allows Hayato to recognize "Emile" as his childhood friend. Subverted later on, as while she was initially told it would stay for life, it gradually disappears after reuniting with Hayato in Little Garden.
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: Emilia initially disguises herself as a boy named Emile Crossfode to escape from Gudenburg. She wears a male uniform with her breasts bound until the secret comes out.
  • Tomboy Princess: She's actually the third princess in line of Gudenburg, but poses as a boy. Charlotte laments that she's a bit too temperamental, as she frequently mouths off at authorities who she feels are abusing their power, nearly getting herself expelled on her first day at Little Garden for opposing Claire. However, her choice of clothing is very feminine when she doesn't need to hide her gender anymore.

Little Garden Student Council

    Claire Harvey

Claire Harvey

Hundred: Alisterion

Voiced by: Mao Ichimichi (Japanese), Caitlin Glass (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/claire_harvey_97272.jpg

The captain and Student Council President of Little Garden, known as its highest-ranked Slayer and the "Perfect Queen". Her relationship with Hayato gets off to a rocky start, challenging him to a duel on his first day at Little Garden over her intended expulsions of two students (as well as Emilia for mouthing off to her), but she gradually develops feelings for his good nature.

  • Above the Influence: When Liza's meddling in Volume 10 results in her and Hayato sleeping in the same bed, both find themselves giving into their impulses from the Variant virus, but Claire ultimately snaps out of it and backs down because she doesn't want an unfair edge over Emilia.
  • The Ace: She's part of a wealthy family who owns Warslan Company and Little Garden, and had the highest recorded Hundred compatibility until Hayato, who is a Variant.
  • Achilles' Heel: Dragoon-type Hundreds like Alisterion have their firepower reduced in rain, which allowed the Olfreds to get the upper hand against her.
  • Alpha Bitch: Perhaps a bit downplayed. She has her two Beta Bitch sidekicks in Liddy and Erica, she's called the "Queen", and didn't hesitate to order the expulsion of three students, but she's not portrayed as being outright unbearable.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: She's the captain of Little Garden, and its highest ranked Slayer.
  • Beam Spam: Claire's Hundred, Alisterion, takes the form of multiple floating cannons that can rapidly fire lasers at her foes.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: She gets brainwashed by Serivia into fighting Emilia in Volume 12, though much of her hostility is actually her competitiveness over Hayato brought to the forefront.
  • Bridal Carry: Hayato flies off with her like this in episode 3 when he pulls her out of the face of danger. With a second incident of Thanks for the Mammary to go with it. She even lampshades it later saying how "it was her first princess carry."
  • Calming Tea: She provides tea for Hayato and Emilia after their first battle with Savages, explaining that it's become a routine for her after such missions.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She has her moments, though she'll generally try to pass it off as objecting to inappropriate school behavior. She's totally not upset about Hayato going on a date with Emilia while she's still on the job, OK?
  • Covert Pervert: She was very disappointed that she couldn't get Hayato into a speedo for a swimming race, as payback for him accidentally seeing her topless.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: She nearly expels two girls for being late for her entrance speech. Her justification being that mistakes no matter how small should not be tolerated in the academy because on the battlefield even a small mistake could be fatal.
  • Dude, He's Like, in a Coma!: In Volume 9, Liza sets her up to be alone with Hayato at a lake, then rocks the boat so Hayato hits his head and faints. Claire ends up passionately tongue-kissing him while he's unconscious, provoking Emilia to blast them both into the water when she catches a glimpse of what happened.
  • Graceful Loser: She manages to force a smile through her tears while accepting her loss to Emilia after learning that Hayato got her pregnant.
  • Let's Fight Like Gentlemen: Since Hayato has barely any experience with a Hundred, for their duel Claire promises not to use her full body armament and allows Emilia to help him.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Oh so very much. She has a very well-endowed body that Hayato often finds himself landing on top of (not to mention how he accidentally groped her breasts twice) and gets a topless pool and beach scene alongside a scene of her relaxing naked in a lake. Her backside is quite curvaceous as well, as the camera loves to remind the viewer.
  • Nice Girl: In defiance of the usual Alpha Bitch characterization, Claire is shown to be very caring and protective of students and people placed under her charge. She's not actively mean to anyone outside of the usual firmness of being Student Council President and tends to warm up to new faces rather quickly.
  • Ojou Ringlets: As the daughter of the wealthy Harvey family, her hair is usually tied into large spiralled twintails. Karen crudely calls her the "drill blonde" at first.
  • Phenotype Stereotype: Coming from a country called "United States of Liberia" implies that she's supposed to be American. She's also a large-breasted blue-eyed blonde.
  • Rescue Romance: After Hayato saves her from a Savage and, later, accidentally kisses her, she falls in love with him.
  • Red Baron: Perfect Queen, representing her spotless win record against both Savages and Slayers.
  • Secret-Keeper: After Clothing Damage from her first bout with a Savage exposes “Emile’s” true gender, Claire agrees to keep Emilia’s identity secret as long as she moves out of Hayato’s room.
  • Shower Scene: In Volume 11, Claire takes a shower while remembering the times Hayato has groped her.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She gradually develops feelings toward Hayato for his philanthropic ideals as a Slayer, as well as their shared devotion to their little sisters. He also happened to take her first breast rub and kiss.
  • The Tease: She's amused that Hayato is flustered over her bikini and decides to get up from sunbathing to show off her body... not realizing that the top is still undone to apply sunscreen. She later tries to get him to wear a speedo for a swimming race.
  • Wave-Motion Tuning Fork: Her Finishing Move combines all of Alisterion's individual cannons into the forked Buster Cannon.
  • Willfully Weak: For her duel with Hayato, Claire states she will not to use her full body armament as that would end the fight in seconds. She still has the upper hand up until Hayato succumbs to his Variant powers and unexpectedly manifests his own full-body armament, forcing Claire to do the same to win.

  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Is very jealous that Hayato has had the privilege of feeling Claire's "Immaculate endowment" and she hasn't.
  • Chain Pain: Her Hundred takes the form of a massive chained yoyo that she uses for restraining.
  • Incompatible Orientation: It's suggested she has feelings for Claire, however, there is no evidence suggesting that Claire is into girls.

    Liza Harvey

Liza Harvey

Voiced by: Nichika Omori (Japanese), Megan Shipman (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lizaharvey.jpg
Claire's younger sister. She is the first Variant in history, having been injected with the Virus by her mother before she was even born. After using her powers in excess to save Claire, she was left in a comatose state, but still produces enough energy to power Little Garden, where her existence is obscured under the A.I. pseudonym "LiZA".
  • Does Not Know Her Own Strength: She notices Fritz and Hayato climbing a tree to peep on girls at a hot spring, so she fires some energy to startle them, but ends up making the tree collapse entirely, dropping the boys in front of the girls. Later, she uses some energy to rock a boat that her sister and Hayato are riding on so they'll fall on each other, but ends up shaking it enough that Hayato hits his head and faints.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: After being placed in a comatose state, it was later decided that Liza would be used to power Little Garden.
  • Shipper on Deck: Later in the story, she begins eagerly pushing her sister's relationship with Hayato, setting up situations for them to be alone.

  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With Fritz. She doesn't like him patting her on the head, to which he muses that she's so small that he can't help it.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Inverted since Fritz serves as the sniper while Reitia is the close range fighter.
  • Power Fist: Her Hundred covers her arms and legs in armor to enhance her melee combat.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: She's one of the shortest Slayers in Little Garden (for which Fritz is constantly teasing her), but her Hundred lets her pulverize her enemies with destructive gauntlets.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Her name gets spelled as both Reitia and Latia. Not to mention her surname gets spelled in about 10 million different ways.

  • Child Prodigy: She went to university at a primary school age, and became the lead researcher on Hundreds as a middle schooler.
  • In-Series Nickname: Charo, courtesy of Emilia.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Always seen wearing a labcoat that is far too big for her, with the coattails trailing on the ground.
  • Older Than She Looks: She's older than Little Garden's students despite looking like a little girl.
  • Oral Fixation: Generally has a lollipop in her mouth.
  • Shipper on Deck: She eagerly supports Emilia's relationship with Hayato, enticing her to become a Slayer in the first place to increase the chance of the two seeing each other again after the Second Attack. She's the reason "Emile" ended up as his roommate (until Claire learned her true gender), and once left them with a box of what was heavily implied to be condoms, leaving a note instructing Hayato to use them for Emilia's "first time".

A popular idol who falls in love with Hayato after seeing him defeat the Trenta Savage at Zwei Island.

  • Compelling Voice: Her singing can calm down rogue Variants.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Purple-pink hair and eyes.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: With Hayato. She remembers meeting him and Karen but she never learns his name until they finally meet again. He in turn couldn't remember her because his memories were erased.
  • Girlish Pigtails: And two very long ones at that.
  • Magic Idol Singer: She's had a passion for singing since she was a child, with Karen having learned her favorite song from the time they met as orphans. At one point, she becomes concerned that people only like her voice because they're infected with Savage viruses, but Hayato convinces her otherwise.
  • Master of Illusion: While she's technically a Slayer, she creates illusions instead of weapons.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: In this outfit she has her cleavage and midriff exposed.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her father sold her to Warslran Research Facility after falling ill and her mother is never really mentioned.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Clingy Jealous Girl aside, she's actually very nice.
  • Sole Survivor: She is the only one of the test subjects to have survived after being sold to the Warslran Research Facility.
  • Support Party Member: Can't fight. Instead, she uses her singing to calm down out-of-control Variants.
  • Wacky Marriage Proposal: Sakura proposes a marriage to Hayato once they're alone in her hotel room, mostly because of the fame surrounding him after defeating a Savage. He's naturally hesitant, but goes with the flow anyway, which then throws her off as she was probably just teasing him, and didn't expect a serious answer.
  • Unwitting Test Subject: Her father sells her to the Warslran Research Facility after becoming ill.

Emilia's friend from Gudenburg. She is very protective of Emilia and heartily wishes for her to come home with her.

  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She can't stand Hayato as she sees him as the main reason that Emilia won't come back to her.
  • Epic Flail: Her Hundred takes the form of a ball-and-chain.
  • Loose Lips: While fawning over Emilia, she indirectly reveals to Hayato that his childhood friend is secretly a princess. In the anime, she later ends up publicly exposing Emilia's gender and royalty while ranting about Hayato kissing Gudenberg's princess, while Emilia in the novels had voluntarily revealed all this at the end of the Garden Festa.
  • Psycho Lesbian: Downplayed; she's obsessed with Emilia, but she's fairly harmless to Hayato outside of one duel despite her hostility toward their relationship.
  • Shipper with an Agenda: Claudia tries to get Hayato alone with Claire so that she can have Emilia to herself.
  • Sore Loser: After losing to Hayato in a duel over Emilia, she desperately tries to give herself more chances before running off in tears when Emilia calls her out on it.

    Douglas Wenz

Douglas Wenz

Hundred: Red Glory & Death Star

The third prince of Wenz, and Emilia's fiancé.
  • Black Swords Are Better: His secondary Hundred, Death Star, is an ominous black sword in contrast to his Red Glory. It's also harder for Hayato to see after Douglas causes a blackout.
  • Dirty Coward: He challenges Hayato to a Duel over his engagement with Emilia... but sabotages Hayato's Hundred so it will easily break, conspires with Gudenburg's Prime Minster Bratt to prevent Hayato from getting a replacement, and causes a blackout during the match so he can Make It Look Like an Accident when he kills Hayato.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Emilia doesn't want to marry him? Her crush and all her comrades at Little Garden deserve to die.
  • Dual Wielding: He can perform the rare Dual Act, wielding two Hundreds at once. Both are Chevalier-type Hundreds in the form of swords.
  • Easily Forgiven: Despite trying to personally kill Hayato while setting Vitaly's Homunculus loose at Little Garden, Hayato and Emilia readily accept that he's turned a new leaf by the Tournament just two volumes later.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: His Dual Act is kept under wraps so he blindside his opponents by pulling out a second Hundred.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: He justifies his brutal actions toward Little Garden and goal to turn Wenz into a Slayer superpower as payback for his kingdom's ostracization.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: His hair is described as silver, and he goes to extreme lengths to get back at Emilia for dumping him.

    Vitaly Tynyanov

Vitaly Tynyanov

Voiced by: Romi Park (Japanese), Monica Rial (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vitaly_tynyanov.jpg

One of the main antagonists of the series. She was originally a member of the Warslan Research Facility, allowing her to gain much access to the data of the Little Garden and have much knowledge about the technologies.

  • Arc Villain: She manipulated the Olfred siblings into gathering Savage cores and Variable Stones for her so she can use them to build a biomechanical army to attack Little Garden. However, she dies at the end of the season, which doesn't cover the entire series, thus disqualifying her for Big Bad status.
  • Brain Uploading: Afer shooting her, Judal has her brain preserved to continue serving him. A computer screen retains her physical appearance.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Eyes and hair appear to be the same color.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Vitaly is a boys name and if she's supposed to be Russian, Tynyanov is the masculine version of the surname. For women it should be Tynyanova. A woman with a masculine name and surname at that.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Her labcoat is noticeably tattered to give it a rougher, edgier look compared to Charlotte.
  • Mad Scientist: She injects orphans with the Savage virus to produce artificial Variants, not caring how many of her test subjects survive.
  • Villainous Breakdown: She freaks out when Liza wakes up to protect Judal.
  • Woman Scorned: Vitaly attacks Little Garden out of spite for Judal, who used her for his own ambitions and threw her away.
