Fighting Style: Commando Sambo
Voiced by: note

A freelance agent originally hired to investigate the theft of certain important scrolls. Her activities usually revolve around Geese's intentions; it's just as well, as her grandfather was Geese's mentor.
She assists Terry in 3 on his quest to stop Geese once and for all, and the two develop a close bond and partnership.
In her KOF debut, she was hired to team up with and investigate Geese's right-hand man, Billy Kane, and Psycho for Hire, Ryuji Yamazaki, only to find that Geese was behind her employment. Since then, she has been a semi-regular team member, usually alongside other Southtown representatives or female fighters. She gets along very well with Terry Bogard, though he wouldn't call her a girlfriend or pursue any relationship with her other than that of an "acquaintance" or "close friend."
After her last playable appearance in The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match, Blue Mary made her return as DLC for The King of Fighters XIV. She's also a base roster fighter in XV, teaming up with her acquaintance Vanessa and a new teammate from XIV, Luong.

  • Action Girl: She works as a private investigator in one of the US's most crime-ridden (fictional) cities and has fought alongside KOF veterans, such as King and Mai Shiranui, while undercover.
  • Amazonian Beauty: She's conspicuously jacked compared to the other women of the series, with salient biceps, firmly-toned stomach, etc. More evident in her sprites than artwork, though her ''XI'' artwork makes one of the better cases amongst her art renders.
  • Badass Biker: Often seen riding a motorbike, whether in the games' intros or in the official arts of the game.
  • Badass Normal: Her fighting prowess is limited strictly to her own speed, strength, and military training. She has no ability to channel Ki, unlike many of her friends, or the people she's assigned to investigate.
  • Battle Intro: In The King of Fighters XV:
"Her opponents all go home with broken bones. She'll have you singing the blues. Blue Mary!
    Blue Mary: "Hmm... Let's fight!"
  • But Not Too Foreign: Mary is part-Asian, given that her grandfather was a Japanese kobujutsu master named Tatsumi Suo, who once taught Geese Howard.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Not as much as Terry, but she still has her fair share. "Snatch!" (M. Snatcher), "Crab Clutch!", "Spider!", "Mary's Typhoon!", "Spin Fall!", "Vertical Arrow!", and of course the ever famous "Mary's... Dynamite... Swiiing~!".
  • Canine Companion: Her pet dog Antonio (or Anton for short). It tends to pop up in several of Mary's poses.
  • Charge-Input Special: Straight Slicer (back-forward) has Mary slide forward with a low attack. To ease the charge time and give more offensive opportunities, she has several command normals that combo use backward or crouching inputs into Straight Slicer.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Mary specializes in rushdown and close-ranged mixups; she can close the gap with Straight Slicer and Spin Fall (both of which provide a low and overhead attack respectively), punish her opponent's rushdown with Real Counter and Mary Breaker, can switch between low and high hits easily with her normals, and benefits a lot from her jumping normals which all put her in a good range for aggression on a successful hit.
  • Continuity Cameo: She'll appear in many of Team Fatal Fury's endings to congratulate Terry and the gang.
  • Crossover Cameo: She appears in the background of KOF Stadium in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father died on a job with her boyfriend Butch. They were both shot defending the president.
  • Expy: According to the series' developer, she was modeled after Android 18.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Not canonically, but her EX version from Real Bout Special depicts what would happen if Mary ever went bad and became a sexbomb sadist. She clearly is a mix of Dark Action Girl and Femme Fatale/The Vamp/The Baroness. EX Blue Mary even wears a red jacket and a black bra. Her ending shows her desire to make Terry into her "pet." When Joe volunteers to also be her pet, she retorts that he already is one.
  • Finger Gun: Playfully uses one as a win pose in later games.
  • Flung Clothing: In some games, she will throw away her jacket, which her dog, Anton, catches.
  • Forehead of Doom: Particularly in her first appearance; since then, it's been toned down.
  • Giving Someone the Pointer Finger: In one of her win poses, Mary makes a gun gesture with her index finger and then "fires" it as she says "Bakyuun!" ("Bang!").
  • Grapple Move: "Mary Typhoon" where she grabs an opponent between her feet and performs a suplex.
  • The Grappler: She creatively uses combat sambo to strike a nice balance between Big Bear and Jubei's offensive throws and Geese's counter throws.
  • Gratuitous English: Her attacks' names are spoken in English. As well, there's her intro and defeat quotes, "Are you ready?" and "I shall return!"
  • Heroes Love Dogs: She has a dog named Antonio. He shows up to congratulate her in various win poses.
  • Honorary Aunt: Rock treats her as one as he recognizes how close she is to Terry. She's one of the only women that Rock can act normally around, considering that he was Raised by Dudes.
  • Image Song:
    • "Blue Mary's Blues." It made it into '97 and '98 as her theme song (sans vocals).
    • In the PS2 version of Ultimate Match the vocal version is present if you go into Practice Mode against her with the Arrange soundtrack on or if you have EX Mary face EX Terry.
  • Implied Love Interest: To Terry. While their relationship is never explicit, the two flirt with each other often and display a close bond. In the original Fatal Fury timeline, she's still Just Friends with Terry, but in the KOF games, it becomes a lot more ambiguous if they're still incredibly close or more than that.
  • Intercontinuity Crossover: In the KOF series, she has a working relationship with King, whom she's teamed up with on occasion. She also seems familiar with Whip, albeit to a lesser extent.
  • Hand-or-Object Underwear: If she emerges victorious when she falls with an opponent into the water in Real Bout: Fatal Fury, she will cover herself after reemerging due to her losing her top beneath the water.
  • Her Heart Will Go On: She moves on after her boyfriend's death by the end of Fatal Fury 3, where she continues to serve as a private investigator in South Town to honor his memory.
  • Human Hammer-Throw: Her 'Dynamite Swing" involves her violently spinning her opponent and tossing him to the other side of the screen.
  • Jiggle Physics: Funnily enough, all she's wearing is a bra.
  • Leitmotif:
  • Murderous Thighs: Her "Mary's Typhoon" DM, where she performs a powerful Grapple Move with her legs.
  • Nice Girl: While she's serious about her job, she's usually very friendly.
  • Odd Friendship: Teaming up with Billy Kane in KOF 97 was enough for the two to become friends, even in the face of her severing ties with the team after learning Geese Howard, Billy's boss, was their secret benefactor. Yamazaki, not so much.
  • Perpetual Frowner: In her backstory, the loss of her lover Butch has left her unable to smile. She's still pretty lively, though.
  • Second Love: She's implied to have developed feelings for Terry Bogard, though nothing comes of it in Fatal Fury's canon. The KOF series makes the attraction between them more apparent, but they're still only friends for the most part.
  • Ship Tease: In KOF, she's flirtatious with Terry and occasionally appears in the Fatal Fury team's endings to congratulate him, often contrasting Mai showing up to support Andy. Likewise, Terry sometimes has special victory quotes for when he defeats her.
  • Shock and Awe: Gained an electric attack in the first Real Bout game, but it's rarely seen in other games. (It's a Static Stun Gun, by the way.)
  • Slide Attack: "Straight Slicer" has Mary slide forward with a low attack. If she performs the heavy version, she can follow up with "Crab Clutch". And if it's the EX version, she'll perform "Stun Fang" which sets her up for a longer combo.
  • Standard Female Grab Area: Inverted, a large portion of Mary's repertoire involves her doing the arm-breaking (and all other kinds of breaking), not being on the receiving end.
  • Token Good Teammate: For the '97 Special Team; her teammates were Billy, The Dragon to Geese Howard, and Yamazaki, an Ax-Crazy yakuza. However, she jumped ship the very moment she found out Geese was her real employer.
  • Too Many Belts: She wears two. Only one holds her pants in place.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Her jacket was a present from her dead lover Butch.
  • Wardrobe Malfunction: In Real Bout Fatal Fury, Blue Mary may fall into water after she knocks her opponent out. When she comes back to the surface she frantically covers her chest as her top came off underwater.
  • Will They or Won't They?: She and Terry have a thing for each other, but it remains to be seen if it ever goes beyond casual flirting.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: She's said to use Commando Sambo but mainly subdues her opponents with grappling maneuvers and submission holds.

Fighting Style: Combative Homicide
Voiced by: note

The Psycho for Hire when it comes to psychos for hire. Yamazaki has been in the crime business for as long as he can remember; he actually started as an orphan from Okinawa, who at an early age joined a local Yakuza cell and ultimately became the right hand of his idol, the high-ranked Yakuza boss Sorimachi, who considered him as a sort-of surrogate son and possible successor. One day, when he and Sorimachi were on their way to make a deal in Osaka, they were set up and ambushed, and Sorimachi was bloodily killed in front of him. This drove him completely insane, and he killed everyone who was there without a scratch. He became something of a criminal mercenary, broker and arms dealer, offering his services to the highest bidder no matter how dirty the job was: his biggest activities were took place in Hong Kong, where he clashed with the policeman Hon Fu. He was approached by the Jin brothers, who hired him to obtain the Jin Scrolls, but was defeated by Terry. He also kidnapped Franco Bash's son for some reason, but Franco rescued him eventually.

In the King of Fighters timeline, it's revealed that he is part of the Orochi bloodline, but he doesn't seem to care about that. In '97 he decides to bust up dojos for pleasure, and Billy Kane approaches him with a substantial offer of money courtesy of Geese. At first he doesn't feel like it, but after being infuriated by a surviving student and killing him, Yamazaki agrees. After the tournament he confronts Geese regarding his money and is paid. In 2003 he teams up with Billy yet again on the behest of Geese, along with Gato, getting into a scuffle with Billy after the tournament's end.

He makes his return as a DLC character for KOF XIV. He returns again in XV as part of Team South Town, having been hired by Geese's butler Hein to participate alongside Geese and Billy.

  • A Handful for an Eye: One of his moves involves him kicking sand/dirt into his opponent's face.
  • Animal Motifs: The snake, as seen during his Sadomaso tongue-flicking taunt.
  • Archenemy: To Hon Fu who's been trying to bring him in for years.
  • Ax-Crazy: This man is as sadistic and erratic as they come. Most of his win quotes are loaded with death threats.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: From KOF '97 until 2002, Yamazaki wore slacks and a vest. In his intro he even wears a pimp coat.
  • Battle Intro: In The King of Fighters XV:
"This lunatic is a real venomous snake! Pray he doesn't use both hands! Ryuji Yamazaki!"
Yamazaki: I wanna see you struggle.
  • Beating A Dead Player: One of his win poses in CvS has Yamazaki grab the fallen opponent from afar, hoist them up by the face, and then taunt them, implying he has this in mind. His XIV win quotes also imply this to opponent characters such as him threatening Choi with his own claws:
Yamazaki: Nice try, bozo! Gimme those! Now... This is how you stab somebody, you little freak!!
  • Blade Spam: One of his Drill variants is him carving his foe with his knife multiple times before ending with the Drill.
  • Bloody Murder: After a fashion. His secret 5th level of his Drill super (seen in Real Bout 2 and KOF '98 UM) has Yamazaki throwing multiple Double Return projectiles, which makes it look like he is spraying his opponents with his blood.
  • Breakout Villain: Incredibly memorable for his insanity and brutality, Yamazaki has become an iconic villain in his own right. Because of this, he's been playable in multiple KOF games and in the SNK vs. Capcom series.
  • The Bus Came Back: He made his return to The King of Fighters in KOF XIV.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: His win quote against Kim in KOF 2003 shows him to be this. As if it wasn't obvious already...
  • Catch and Return: One of his specials consists of grabbing energy projectile attacks and then nonchalantly flinging them back at the opponent at breakneck speed.
  • Charged Attack: His Drill (Climax) DM has multiple levels of potency, depending on how much you mash the A/C button after he successfully grabs his opponent (indicated by his laugh becoming more crazed). Then Spam Attack ensues.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: His status as one of the Orochi Hakkesshu didn't come into perspective until his Crossover into KOF and is a partial explanation for his insanity.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: In the King Of Fighters games. He disappeared from XI through XIII, and no real explanation has been given as to where or why he's gone (though a wanted poster of him can be seen in the London stage of XIII). He does return in KOF XIV, however.
  • Coat Cape: His pre-battle intro has him standing in front of his opponent with a fine fur coat draped over his shoulders. He then walks away from his opponent and discards it as he takes his position for the start of the match. KOF XV marks the first time he fights while wearing it.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He kicks sand in his opponents' eyes and stomps on their crotches... repeatedly. If that doesn't do it, he'll bring out his foot-long knife. His Guillotine super also involves him dragging his opponent across the ground. (and in some cases, he ends it by repeatedly stomping and kicking them)
  • Combat Sadomasochist: One of his moves is even named Sadomaso. He taunts by sticking out his tongue, and if he is hit, he takes no damage but instead counters with a vicious attack of his own.
  • Crossover Cameo: He appears in the background of KOF Stadium in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  • Damage Over Time: Pit Viper, a Super Move introduced in The King of Fighters XIV, has him jab his foe with his right hand laced with energy, then violently pulls it out, leaving them poisoned. Functionally, it's reminiscent of Omega Rugal's Rugal Execution from KOF '98.
  • Demoted to Extra: He's the only surviving member of the Hakkesshu, not that he gives a shit or anything about it. With Orochi's justifiably minimal presence after the Orochi Saga, Yamazaki has only seen three non-Dream Match appearances since '97 (KOF 2003, XIV, and XV).
  • The Dragon: In Fatal Fury 3, he's hired as one by Jin Chonshu, the Final Boss of the game.
  • Evil Laugh: So much that in his Drill DM he starts foaming at the mouth. Many of his winquotes have him laughing as well.
  • Evil Versus Oblivion: Turns down Yashiro's offer to join the Hakkeshu. After all, if Orochi destroys everything, there'd be nobody for Yamazaki to fight against.
  • Extendable Arms: Ryuji can stretch his arms.
  • Flanderization: His Fatal Fury self started out as a ruthless and sadistic but mostly sane mobster. In the more cartoonish RBS, his malicious chuckle made way for a maniacal laugh and he gained an unsettling "Ikuzo... Ikuzo... IKUZO!" chant while charging his Snake Arms. His KOF incarnation was based on this version, and would gradually (d)evolve into a slavering lunatic whose MAX2 sees him grabbing and tossing opponents using his mouth. YMMV on what version is the most appealing.
  • Freudian Excuse: He was a street orphan who lived in a part of Okinawa occupied by American soldiers. He eventually worked his way up to be the bodyguard of the mobster Sorimachi. His drama CD reveals that Yamazaki lived a happy life as a mobster until his boss was killed, prompting Yamazaki to snap and become the psycho we know, love, and fear.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: He was once just an impoverished orphan living on the streets. He then grew up to become a dangerous and feared criminal with dealings all over Asia.
  • Fur and Loathing: Just look at that pimp coat.
  • Grapple Move: his Bakudan Pachiki (Bombshell Badda-bing) special has him grab an opponent and then do an explosive headbutt. His Drill (Climax) DM is another grab move with varying kind of attacks afterward.
  • Insanity Immunity: Despite being of Orochi blood, Yamazaki's just so batshit insane that he doesn't suffer from any of its negative side effects and unlike Iori and Leona, lacks an Orochi form. Then again, there is the theory that Yamazaki is always in Blood Riot during a fight.
  • I Shall Taunt You: One of his moves, Sadomaso, has him sticking his tongue out at his opponent. Resist the urge to whale on his punchable face during such because it's a Counter-Attack.
  • The Insomniac: He apparently has no problem staying awake for up to three days at a time.
  • It's All About Me: Ryuji shows that he's clearly a selfish jerk who only looks out for himself. In Japanese, his preferred pronoun is "Ore-Sama", meaning himself in a higher position and it further emphasized his big ego.
  • Lag Cancel: His Suna Kake (Sand Spray) special can be cancelled to Hebi Tsukai (any version) and then aborted by pressing D. As Suna Kake does more hitstun than most other special moves, he can quickly do another attack after this cancel combination, thus this makes up the bulk of his combos.
  • Last-Name Basis: His first name, Ryuji, is rarely ever brought up and the games always address him as just Yamazaki.
  • Laughing Mad: With excessive drooling/foaming at the mouth.
  • Maniac Tongue: He tucks out his tongue during some of his animations, whether to mock the opponent or when he's being fired up in general. And yes, he's a maniac.
  • The Mole: He's one for Team South Town in XV, having been hired to assist Hein with his plan to assassinate Geese. Geese was aware of this from the start, and went along with it just for the fun of it.
  • Neck Lift: Aside from his Bakudan Pachiki and Drill grab moves, EX Hebi Tsukai ends with him hoisting his foe by the neck.
  • Obviously Evil: Just look at this guy. He acts and laughs like a crazy maniac and fights without honor. Although he's not a major villain, he certainly is a threat to avoid at all costs.
  • Parental Substitute: His boss, Sorimachi, became this to him. But it all ended tragically when the latter was killed by a rival, driving Yamazaki past breaking point.
  • Perpetual Smiler: He almost never loses his Slasher Smile.
  • Played for Laughs: His Snake Arm move is seen as a high-speed bitch slap.
  • Psycho for Hire: Ryuji is a sadistic hitman who enjoys two things: money and killing.
  • Psycho Knife Nut: Keeps a switchblade on his person that he's really fond of using and he is indeed a psycho.
  • Random Effect Spell: In XIV, one of the new variants of his Drill is him pulling an object from the background to be slammed on top of his opponent; the object varies depending on the stage.
  • Rapidfire Fisticuffs: If you charge his Drill DM to the max, he'll then rapidly attack his opponent with multiple Serpent Slashes before ending with the Drill. There's also his 2002 HSDM named "...!" where he'll whip his downed opponent with both of his arms before biting them in the head and throwing them away. In XIV, his full-charged Drill does a similar thing to the aforementioned HSDM, but it attacks forward instead of downward and, well, ends with the Drill.
  • Rubber Man: Somehow he's able to elongate his arms to attack from a distance. His Hebi Tsukai (Snake Charmer/Serpent Slash) special has him do a mid-ranged punch with his arm stretched. He can aim it to one of 3 directions. It's possibly part of his special abilities as a Hakkeshu.
  • Screw Destiny: Doesn't give a rat's ass about his Orochi heritage and in some special fight intros against any of the Hakkeshu note  and even Orochi himself, he will be openly laughing his ass off towards them.
  • Self-Made Man: Sort of, as Yamzaki went from a poor Street Urchin to a top Yakuza.
  • Sex Is Violence: In certain win quotes from XIV, he makes the most sadisticly perverted comments to female opponents. Like his win quote against Whip for example:
Yamazaki: Quit waving that whip around and give it here, so I can spank you the way you deserve! Gyahaha!!
  • Sinister Switchblade: He always carries a switchblade in his pocket that he'll occasionally use for to attack.
  • Sir Swearsalot: He loves hurling insults and profanity at male opponents. For female opponents, he tends to call them "miss" out of sarcasm.
  • Slasher Smile: All the time. Never loses it, not even for a moment.
  • Strong, but Unskilled: He's apparently had no formal martial arts training, having instead been self-taught since childhood. He more than makes up for it though with his monstrous strength and capacity for violence.
  • Take Over the City: If he defeats Geese Howard in KOF XIV, he sarcastically and sadisticly taunts him about taking over South Town:
Yamazaki: Rest in peace, pal. I'll take care of South Town for you! Gyahaha!
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Most notably with Billy. He derides him as Geese's lapdog while Billy finds him a liablity due to his unhinged mental state. Both have special win quotes against each other in 2003, where they're also teammates.
  • Torture Technician:
    • His 2002 win quotes reference skinning the opponent and throwing him/her to the sharks, or feeding them their own intestines.
    • The Drill. Brutal does not even begin to describe it.
  • Use Your Head: His knockback attack is a headbutt. He also has a souped-up version of the move as a special called Bombshell Badda-Bing. It causes an explosion. Its EX version has him do it 3 times. In one of his Drill variations, he may do multiple head-butts to his opponent before ending it with a Drill.
  • Willfully Weak: As a sadistic fighter who likes to play with his food, Ryuji mostly fights with one hand, keeping the other one in his pocket. Where's the fun in offing your opponent right away with your true strength, right? Although he does use both hands in some of his more... excessive attacks.
  • Wipe the Floor with You: His Guillotine special has him doing a jumping uppercut, then slamming them to the ground, then dragging their body along the ground and kicking them away. Its SDM/MAX version has him either stomping the poor sap multiple times before the last kick or (in XIV) repeatedly slamming them onto the ground.
  • With My Hands Tied: Always keeps one hand his pockets. If he ever takes his other hand out of his pocket, either A) he's about to stab you to death, B) he's about to Catch and Return one of your projectiles, C) you're on the ground and you're about to suffer through the worst version of his Drill super, or D) he's out cold. Aside from that last scenario, you can guarantee that you don't want him to take his hand out of his pocket.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He has absolutely zero qualms about hitting female fighters. His KOF XIV win quotes emphasize on him getting off of this, where he implicates violent and sexual threats against them for his own amusement.
  • Yakuza: He's been involved in all sorts of illicit trades like weapons and drugs. He himself has killed his fair share of rivals as well.
  • Years Too Early: 100, to be exact, in one of his win poses.
  • You Will Not Evade Me: His EX Hebi Tsukai in XIV ends up with him pulling his foe close to him, allowing for further combos.

Fighting Style: Capoeira
Voiced by: note

A Capoeira student of Richard Meyer. Works at the Pao Pao Cafe with Richard and trains in Capoeria from within his spare time. Also manages the second branch of the Pao Pao Cafe.

  • Alternate Company Equivalent: He is SNK's answer to Dee Jay, given their similarities when it comes to being cheerful musicians.
  • Blow You Away: Several of his standard specials are wind based kicks and his first HDM generates a mini-cyclone around his body.
  • Dance Battler: The first true example in the series, thanks to the advances in game animation, which finally allowed SNK to accurately portray the fluidity of a proper Jinga, as well as the rhythmic movements of Capoeira in general.
  • Extremity Extremist: All of his attacks result in kicks, including his throws, both his DMs, and his HDM.
  • Put on a Bus: Hasn't been a playable fighter since Real Bout 2.
  • Superior Successor: In terms of gameplay, both his form and his fighting ability is leagues above Meyer's. Bob even takes over his role as the series' resident Capoeirista from Fatal Fury 3 onwards, limiting Meyers to only making cameo appearances.
  • Theme Naming: All of his attacks tend to have animal name motifs (Wild Wolf, Bison's Horn, Lynx's Fang, Rolling Turtle, Hornet Attack, Dangerous Wolf).
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Likes apple and pineapple according to his bio.

Fighting Style: Kickboxing
Voiced By: note

An Italian-American former kickboxing Super Heavyweight champion whose great strength is matched only by his big heart. Having retired from kickboxing, he was working as an airplane mechanic in Southtown when his son was kidnapped by Yamazaki to draw him into the battle for Jin's secret scrolls. In Real Bout, he resolves to make a comeback, with his wife's blessing.

  • Alternate Company Equivalent: He is SNK's answer to Mike Haggar, in terms of both appearance and motivation.
  • Animation Bump: His moves are animated in a notably more bouncy and stretchy way in his Real Bout Fatal Fury Special sprites.
  • Big "OMG!": His Death Cry Echo.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: He's big, loud and certainly enjoys fighting at heart, usually for the good sport. Positively, his heart is also as big as his stature and passion.
  • Elemental Punch: His fists will catch fire as he punches for certain attacks.
  • Flanderization: To an even greater extent than Hon-Fu and Yamazaki. Come Real Bout Special, his design was changed from a Heroic Build to a caricaturally bulky frame, which received a Shout-Out in his Real Bout 2 ending, where he is shown popping out of an overbody. Also, his fiery temper, propensity for top-of-the-lungs shouting and brawn-over-brains persona took similar proportions: in the Japanese version of RBS, his win quotes are written in katakana and come close to Hulk Speak:
    "Nice guy! Nice fight!"
    "Yamazakiiii! Kill you!"
    "Billy, you dangerous."
    "Fuck you! Geese!"
  • Forced into Evil: In his first appearance, as Yamakazi blackmailed him to work as Yamazaki's henchman if he wanted his son back.
  • Freddie Mercopy: He certainly possesses Freddie's hair style, moustache and dungarees. Though definitely not a musician, Bash can be said to be a take of 'Super Muscular Freddie'.
  • Large Ham: He says everything very loudly, and that was even before the Flanderization above kicked in!
  • Lightning Bruiser: Make no mistake: He has no close-range grappling move despite his big stature, and he's fine running through the arena with decent speed with that big body of his.
  • Papa Wolf: The kidnapping of his son Junior is what spurred him back into combat when by default he should have retired from the ring.
  • Put on a Bus: Hasn't been a playable fighter since Real Bout 2.
  • Say My Name: "JUNIOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!!"
  • Stay in the Kitchen: He has some very sexist words towards Mai in his win quote.
"This place is not for a woman! Go back home, take off your shoes, and stay in the kitchen!"

Fighting Style: Northern Style Kung Fu
Voiced by: note

An eccentric police officer from Hong Kong and an old friend of Cheng Sinzan. Though klutzy and a little headstrong, he is diligent and popular among his colleagues. His pursuit of Yamazaki brought him to Southtown and the battle for the scrolls. His weapon of choice is a pair of nunchaku, which are set ablaze during some of his special moves.

  • All Asians Know Kung Fu: A Hong-Kong detective proficient in Northern-style Kung Fu. Bonus points for being a pretty blatant Jackie Chan homage/knock-off.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Yamazaki. This carries onto the Capcom vs. SNK series, where Hon Fu joins up with Chun-Li to bust Yamazaki and cameos in her intro pose with Yamazaki in CvS1 and CvS2.
  • Butt-Monkey: Hon-Fu is prone to slapstick misfortune, from jump-kicking through windows and subsequently faceplanting or hitting himself in the head or crotch to setting his posterior on fire in the fake version of his flaming uppercut move.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: His kindly demeanor and streak of bad luck notwithstanding, he is a master of Northern Style Kung-Fu and the nunchaku.
  • Expy: Of Jackie Chan.
  • Flanderization: While he was always somewhat clumsy and quirky, he gradually turned into an out-and-out goofball, culminating with his Real Bout 2 P.Power attack: he hits the ground with his nunchaku, causing an explosion which leaves his clothes singed and him with a dumbfounded expression.
  • Friendly Rival: He and Cheng are on good terms for having a mutual respect in each other's fighting styles.
  • Groin Attack: Unusually and hilariously enough, it is not directed towards his opponent, but rather towards himself. Should you use his Honoo no Taneba and neglect to keep pressing the A button, Hon-Fu will accidentally hit himself in the crotch, then jump up and down in pain while covering it with his hands. As a Real Bout Special FAQ put it, "Stop pressing to hit dick."
  • Playing with Fire: He can set fire to his chucks for a burning attack.
  • Put on a Bus: Hasn't been a playable fighter since Real Bout 2.
  • Justice Will Prevail: He's a Super Cop. Besides helping to introduce Kim to his wife Myeng Swuk, the two are good friends due to their shared interest in upholding justice. Oddly enough, Hon Fu isn't nearly as justice-obsessed as Kim is. And Kim isn't a police officer.
  • The Worf Effect: When Terry, Andy or Joe faces Yamazaki for the second time in Fatal Fury 3, he has already curb-stomped Hon-Fu.

A monk of a Buddhist order that has a steep rivalry with the Shiranui clan (the clan Mai belongs to and that Andy trained under). Wields a staff that he can magically control. He had arrived in Southtown to destroy the Jin scrolls, which he perceives as a great evil.

  • Anti-Hero: He's out to keep the Jin Scrolls from falling into the wrong hands, but is also a pretty big Jerkass who's not above killing to achieve that goal.
(Vs. Franco) "Okay, Bash, just hand over the secret scrolls, and I'll promise to kill you quickly!"
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: His win quotes are quite disparaging towards his opponents.
    "Geez. What a loser!"
  • Bald Mystic: He has no hair under that hat of his and is a supernatural warrior.
  • Playing with Fire: Like Mai, he can envelop himself in fire.
  • Martial Arts Staff: He's proficient in Bojutsu.
  • Put on a Bus: Hasn't been a playable fighter since Real Bout 2.
  • The Rival: His family is at odds with the Shiranui clan, putting him in conflict with both Andy and Mai.
(His win quote against Mai) "If your ancestors saw your performance, they'd cry their eyes out!"
(His win quote against Andy) "Heh, heh, heh. I thought so. The Shiranui's power is spent."
  • Shock and Awe: Can summon lightning from the sky.
  • Summon Magic: He can summon spirits to aid him in battle.

One half of the Jin brothers who had hired Yamazaki in order to search for the Jin scrolls, a powerful tome that is part of their ancestry. Said to be very stubborn and headstrong, with an inability to understand defeat.

  • Affably Evil: In Fatal Fury 3 and Real Bout. He drops the act starting in Special.
  • Big Bad: of Fatal Fury 3. This is also one of the two members of a Big Bad Ensemble in Real Bout Fatal Fury with the other competing Big Bad being Geese Howard.
  • Blue Oni: In stark defiance to his choice of color, Chonshu is the calmer, more easy going of the pair, at least outwardly.
  • The Bus Came Back: He's a playable fighter in NeoGeo Battle Coliseum.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He and his brother were orphaned as children and had to fend for themselves for a long time. Then they were both beaten to near-death and left to rot in the streets. This caused the spirits of their ancestors to possess their bodies and seek out immortality.
  • Divergent Character Evolution: The pair get more and more different properties and moves as time goes on. Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 even implies that they eventually part ways, with Chonrei sticking with Tung Fu Rue and Chonshu finding a new mentor in Kim Kaphwan.
  • The Dreaded: It's implied during his ending in Fatal Fury 3 and Neo Geo Battle Colosseum, that if the Jin Twins were to ever reawaken as their "true selves", that Chonshu would actually be the worst of the two.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: ...and sounds like one too. To this day, there are gamers who still believe that Chonshu is really a girl. The fact that he wears eyeliner, while some of his official art also shows him with lipstick, further confuses the issue.
  • Good All Along: All of the evil things he and his brother did were because of the spirits possessing their bodies. After being freed, they destroy the Qin scrolls to make sure nobody else seeks them out and decide to go under Tung's wing.
  • Guyliner: In red, from his upper eyelashes, to the corners of his eyes.
  • Final Boss: Of Fatal Fury 3, unless you've met the necessary criteria to face Chonrei.
  • Harmful to Minors: His backstory where he was beaten and left for dead as a young child.
  • Immortality Seeker: This is one of the reasons he is looking for the Jin scrolls.
  • Power Floats: Seen during his victory pose, where he levitates and snickers at his opponent.
  • Powers via Possession: His power comes from his ancestor's spirit possessing him. He is seeking the Jin scrolls to unlock his and his brother's possessing spirits for more power.
  • Sealed in a Person-Shaped Can: So long as the Jin Scrolls remain sealed, that is...
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Sensitive Guy to Chonrei's Manly Man.
  • Shoto Clone: Both he and and brother, though they lack an equivalent of a Hurricane Kick.
  • Teleport Spam: His forward and backdash animations causes him to teleport, as do several of his special attacks.
  • This Cannot Be!: This is what he says when you defeat him. (i.e. "Ba-BAKANA!")
  • Truth in Television: Although the Qin Dynasty was significant as the first unifying empire of Chinese history, records tell of how brutally totalitarian and ruthless the Qins were during their rule. Qin Wang Long was the general of Qin Shi Huang, and was a merciless warrior said to have slain a thousand soldiers singlehandedly in combat. Qin Kong Long is Qin Wang Long's eldest son, and was one of the writers of the founding scroll of the Hakkyokuseiken School and the secrets to immortality, until his untimely death. With Qing Wang Long's sons desiring to return to life, they also seek to wrap up the unfinished business of immortalizing themselves and reviving the Qin Dynasty through global domination.
  • Unflinching Walk: If you simply hold forward, he casually (albeit, still menacingly) stalks up to his opponent.

Chonshu's brother and the ultimate opponent of Fatal Fury 3. Protector of his brother to a near-fanatical degree. Following Fatal Fury 3, supposedly both brothers mellow out and enter Tung Fu Rue's tutelage.

  • Anime Hair: And it's blue with yellow streaks!
  • Anti-Villain: Villain in Name Only.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: He's the youngest fighter in 3 at 14, being the technical younger twin to his brother.
  • Berserk Button: He gets pissed seeing his brother beaten by the player character, and decides to finish you off in an act of vengeance.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Doubles as a Berserk Button and crosses into Knight Templar Big Brother territory; the guy will snap if you defeat Chonshu, but not before calling you "mousse-head."
  • Big "WHAT?!": This is what he says when you defeat him. (i.e. "Na-NANDATO!?")
  • Bring It: his taunt, along with very audibly cracking his neck.
  • Demonic Possession: His power comes from his ancestor's spirit possessing him. He wants to get rid of these spirits unlike his brother.
  • Expy: Looks like a kid Vegeta. Sometimes he even has the attitude too.
  • Good All Along: He tears up the Jin Scrolls in his and his brother's endings, ruining the plans of their ancestors that are possessing them to start conquering again.
  • Harmful to Minors: His backstory where he was beaten and left for dead as a young child.
  • Hot-Blooded: So much so that in his idle stance, his fingers twitch impatiently and he barely seems able to stand still.
  • Red Oni: Again, in defiance of his color scheme. He's the raging, hot blooded, explosive red to Chonshu's subdued blue.
  • Screaming Warrior: While this also applies to his brother, Chonrei's case has him display a more deep-tone from Kappei Yamaguchi's voice acting.
  • Sealed in a Person-Shaped Can: As long as the Jin Scrolls remained sealed.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The Manly Man to Chonshu's Sensitive Guy.
  • Shoto Clone: Same as Chonshu, though he's more focused on single-hit moves than gimmicks.
  • True Final Boss: In Fatal Fury 3, provided the player wins every fight without continuing, or any rounds lost, and defeats Chonshu with an AA rank or higher.
  • Twin Telepathy
  • Unflinching Walk: Same as his brother.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Despite him being so close to Chonshu, he's not as keen on eternal life as his bro. He even tears up the Scrolls of Jin in both his and Chonshu's endings in Real Bout, both to stop anyone else from trying to dabble on its secrets like Geese did, and to give himself and his brother a normal life under Master Tung's wing.
