    Heroes

The Whole Team

  • Blush Sticker: All of them except for Rollpanna, since the mask covers her mouth.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Regardless of the situation, they always like to help others.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Anpanman wears red, yellow and brown. Shokupanman wears white and red. Currypanman wears yellow and orange. Melonpanna wears green. Rollpanna wears blue. Creampanda wears yellow and red.
  • Iconic Sequel Character: Melonpanna, Rollpanna and Creampanda became popular characters after the show passed over 200 episodes.
  • Keep It Foreign: When the series was dubbed in English, about 5/6 of the heroes kept their names intact from the original language.
  • Mobile Fishbowl: They mostly wear one if they're in the rain, snow, or underwater.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Played With. While they don't wear anything other than their superhero gear, they do wear something over it.
  • Superheroes Wear Capes: All of them wear one for a good reason. This gives them the ability to fly.
  • Vague Age: Despite being bread-related, the ages on the main heroes are very vague. However, Creampanda seems to be the youngest.

Anpanman/(アンパンマン)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anpanman_4542.png

Voiced by: Keiko Toda (Japanese), Ghia Burns (English), Cristina Hernández (Latin American Spanish)

The main protagonist of the series. He was born from the last batch of anpans made by Uncle Jam as a group of shooting stars fell from the sky.

  • Art Evolution: His eyes became bigger.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: See Weaksauce Weakness.
  • Baby Talk: Averted when he was first born. However, played straight when he transformed into one.
  • Bat Signal: He has one, but this is used to signal Uncle Jam if his head is damaged.
  • Bilingual Dialogue: In the Edutainment specials. At first, he had trouble understanding English in the early specials. He seemed to get better when he helped translate what Alpoo and Betan were saying to Melonpanna.
  • Calling Your Attacks: AN-PUNCH!!
    • DOUBLE-PUNCH!! whenever he pairs up with Shokupanman, Currypanman, Melonpanna, or Rollpanna.
    • TRIPLE-PUNCH!! whenever he's paired with Shokupanman and Currypanman, or Melonpanna and Rollpanna.
  • Characterization Marches On:
    • In the early days of the show, even if he was somewhat battered or wet, Anpanman can still pick up a fight.
  • Chest Insignia: A yellow smiley face.
  • Cool Big Bro: To Melonpanna and Creampanda.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: He dressed up as Baikinman in Don Ki Hotate's debut episode so he could make Ki Hote believe that he's good at battle.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • In the early episodes, Anpanman used to take his nose off. This was never brought up again.
  • Edible Theme Naming: He is based on an anpan, a Japanese sweet roll most commonly filled with red bean paste.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: There are a few times when he becomes more powerful than before. This is mostly due to a change in one of the ingredients that Uncle Jam and Butterko use for his head, mostly because of Baikinman's involvement. However, this only lasts either for the rest of the episode, or until he gets a new head.
    • One example was in the second episode, where Uncle Jam made a large head for Anpanman when Baikinman was attacking the bakery with a giant cloud.
    • Another example was when after Baikinman spoiled Anpanman's new head with coffee, Uncle Jam decided to make a new head, but in coffee flavor, which not only made Anpanman powerful, but also made his head a different color.
    • There was also an episode where he had a crayon-drawn head. However, unlike the coffee one, the punches aren't as effective.
    • He also had a head that was filled with white cream, which makes himself completely bright like a light bulb.
  • Fascinating Eyebrow: Had this trait in the early episodes.
  • Fly Crazy: Started out like this in the first episode, but overcomes it later.
  • Ideal Hero: Takashi Yanase based him on his experience during the war as he was someone who would help give food to hungry people.
  • Instant Bandages: Had these after his nose was stung by a bee in one of the edutainment specials.
  • Large Ham: While not always, he did become one when his head was coffee flavored.
  • Men Don't Cry: He almost cried in the 2007 film short when Horako was telling a tear-jerking event about her past. He also did this in one of the early edutainment specials where he cried because he dropped his ice cream cone.
  • The Needless: He doesn't eat any type of food. The official website states that the filling inside his head gives him sustenance. Although there was a scene in one of the early edutainment specials where he was about to eat an ice cream cone.
  • Nice Guy: He's friendly, cheerful, and always willing to help anyone who needs it.
  • No Nose: His nose can detach, as seen from Rakugaki Kozou's debut episode. Though this never happened again.
  • Not So Stoic: Although there are a few times where he might display other emotions besides being happy, sad, and angry.
  • Only Sane Man: He can be this if Shokupanman and Currypanman don't get along.
  • Red Is Heroic: His superhero outfit is mostly red with a few yellow spots.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: In the Edutainment episodes, he's the blue to Baikinman's red.
  • Secret-Keeper: He's kept Naganegiman's real identity a secret since his debut episode. He and the rest of the Bakery staff, to be exact.
  • Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome: In his first appearance, he was an infant/toddler until the second half of the episode. Justified since he was born from the stars.
  • Stage Fright: Yes, even the strongest superhero can have stage fright.
  • Super Mode: He had one in the 908th episode. Though he never physically changed, he had a super powerful punch.
  • Theme Music Power-Up: Pretty much whenever he gets a new head, a powerful music theme will play in the background. This was also used when he was firstborn.
  • A Twinkle in the Sky:
    • This happens to him if Baikinman punches him back.
    • Anpanman does an inverse of this when he flies.
  • Vocal Evolution: In the early episodes, his voice was somewhat a kid-like type. This was later changed to a firm and a bit older voice. This may be due to his voice actress aging, however.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: If his head gets wet from any form of liquid (eg. water, mud, oil), gets squished, or bits of his head are taken off, he becomes powerless.

Shokupanman/(しょくぱんまん)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shokupanman_4988.png

Voiced by: Sumi Shimamoto (Japanese), Kenyū Horiuchi (Japanese, Blue Shokupanman), Yuko Sanpei (Japanese, Pink Shokupanman), Víctor Ugarte (Latin American Spanish)

One of Anpanman's partners. He is seen usually driving his white truck delivering bread.

  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: His blue clone had these.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": His logo is a backward "S".
  • Calling Your Attacks: SHOKU-PUNCH!!
    • DOUBLE-PUNCH!! whenever he pairs up with Anpanman, Currypanman, Melonpanna, or Rollpanna.
    • TRIPLE-PUNCH whenever he pairs up with both Anpanman and Currypanman.
  • Cool Car/ Weaponized Car: His truck.
  • Dating Catwoman: With Dokinchan, though only when she's in disguise.
  • Large Ham: Pretty much whenever something good happens, he'll explain that it's so beautiful. Especially when it's Christmas, he likes to explain a lot about why it's wonderful. This gives Currypanman the itches.
  • Literal Split Personality: One episode has him gain two clones of himself with different personalities.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is a translation of "a slice of white bread".
  • Odd Name Out: Out of the six heroes, he is the only one to have his name translated in the English dub.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: His second clone wore this.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Currypanman's red.
    • Surprisingly, his Blue clone is the red to Pink's blue.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Shokupanman became Black Shokupanman to fight Anpanman along with Black Currypanman and Black Rollpanna when Black Rollpanna turned both Shokupanman and Currypanman evil using her black roll ribbon in the 2002 film.
  • Taken for Granite: Unfortunately, he suffers this a lot in both films and the TV series.
  • Vanity License Plate: On his original truck before he upgraded it, the back license plate used to be 25-25.

Currypanman/(カレーパンマン)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/currypanman_6031.png

Voiced by: Michiyo Yanagisawa, Chika Sakamoto (Super Spicy Currypanman), Mina Tominaga (Ultra Mild Currypanman)

One of Anpanman's partners.

  • Calling Your Attacks: CURRY-PUNCH!!
    • DOUBLE-PUNCH!! whenever he pairs up with Anpanman, Shokupanman, Melonpanna, or Rollpanna.
  • Chest Insignia: A yellow lemon-shaped face that resembles himself.
  • Edible Theme Naming: He is based on a curry bread.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Similar to Anpanman, he gets temporary powers for the rest of the episode. Here, he can refill his head with different flavors of curry.
  • Heroic Fatigue: In one episode, he states that he'll always help out someone no matter what. This gives Baikinman the advantage to make Currypanman do too many things so he'll wear out.
  • Literal Split Personality: One episode has him with two clones of himself with different personalities. One was a brute who makes ultra-spicy curry, while the other is a softie who makes mild curry.
  • One-Note Cook: Inverted. While he's best known for making curry, he can also cook other dishes.
  • Real Men Hate Sugar: He doesn't like eating sweets a lot.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Shokupanman's blue. He's also the red to Unadonman and Princess Salad's blue. Surprisingly, he's the blue to Matsutakeman's red.
  • Second Episode Introduction: Currypanman was introduced in the second episode.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Like Shokupanman being Black Shokupanman in the 2002 flim, Currypanman became Black Currypanman when Black Rollpanna turned them evil.
  • Super Spit: One of his powers is spitting curry. The only downside is that he'll get weak if he uses all of it.
  • Theme Music Power-Up: Similar to Anpanman, he has one whenever he gets refilled with curry. The only major difference is that there's different music and there are fireworks in the background.

Melonpanna/(メロンパンナ)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melonpanna_2267.png

Voiced by: Mika Kanai
The lone female of the main heroes. She was created by Uncle Jam after they found "The Flower of Love" with the help of the same shooting stars that created Anpanman.
  • Badass Adorable: She's both very cute and very competent at fighting.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S" : Both her logo emblem and her hair are a lowercase "m".
  • Butt-Monkey: She suffered this a few times in the 90s episodes. This was toned down after Creampanda's debut episode.
  • Calling Your Attacks: MERO-MERO-PUNCH!!
    • DOUBLE-PUNCH!! whenever she pairs up with Anpanman, Shokupanman, Currypanman, or Rollpanna.
  • Characterization Marches On: Melonpanna's personality was different from when she was first new in the team to the current episodes.
    • Early on in the show, she doesn't like it if anybody calls her a panda. This vanished after Creampanda appeared in the show and later took that trait.
    • Melonpanna was more bratty and a jerk who was in the same line as Dokinchan. She softens up once Rollpanna and Creampanda later appear and by the time the show transitions to digital ink, she becomes more of a motherly figure.
    • She also suffered a lot of actions due to her inexperience.
  • Childish Older Sibling: She is this to Rollpanna. Though Melonpanna refers to Rollpanna as her big sister (due to Rollpanna being the taller and more mature of the two), she is actually the older of the two.
  • Cool Mask: While she doesn't wear one, the diamond imprints on her eyes represent one.
  • Edible Theme Naming: She is based on a melon bread.
  • Good Counterpart: Though not entirely evil, she can be considered a good counterpart to Dokinchan, since they have contrasting colors and they have something related to hearts. This was also more apparent when Melonpanna first appeared when they were in equal lengths of being jerks.
  • Language Barrier: She had trouble understanding what Alpoo and Betan were saying. Keep in mind, that the show is made in Japan.
  • Meaningful Name: Her attack "Mero mero" is Japanese for "totally in love".
  • Promotion to Opening Titles: Since the fourth opening.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She's the calm and kind hearted blue to Creampanda's hotheaded red.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: She is kind and sensitive compared to her older sister.
  • Token Girl
  • Wolverine Publicity: When the rest of the 1991 and 1994 collections were being released on DVD, she was one of the characters shown on patterns. However, she didn't exist in the 1991 collection as those episodes were made two years before she existed. This is also true for volumes 2 ad 3 of the 1994 collection, though is understandable as Melonpanna does appear in most of the volumes and is likely done to keep in line with the rest of the collection.

Rollpanna/(ロールパンナ)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rollpanna_8668.png

Voiced by: Mina Tominaga
Melonpanna's sister. She was originally intended to be similar to Melonpanna. However, thanks to Baikinman poisoning the melon bread, she has two different hearts.

  • Ambiguously Lesbian: She has only ever experienced what seems to be an attraction to other female characters. In the movie Secret of the Cloud-sailing Castle, it is very heavily implied there is something in the air between her and Laura.
  • Ambiguously Human: Even though she's made from a bread roll, she looks more humanoid than the other heroes due to most of her head covered up. The fact that unlike her sister her name isn't based on an existing bread.
  • Big Little Sister: Interestingly, though she is mentally and biologically more mature than Melonpanna, Rollpanna is technically the younger of the sisters as she came out of the oven after Melonpanna. Nonetheless, Melonpanna refers to her as her older sister.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Whenever some terrible happens to her sister, she comes in to help out.
  • Brought To You By The Letter R
  • Childish Older Sibling: She is this to Melonpanna. Though Melonpanna refers to Rollpanna as her big sister (due to Rollpanna being the taller and more mature of the two), she is actually the younger of the two.
  • Cool Big Sis: Melonpanna and Creampanna see this in her.
  • Disney Death: Suffers one in "Secret of the Cloud-Sailing Castle".
  • The Dragon: To Baikinman, depending the situation.
  • Edible Theme Naming: She was based on a "Bread Roll"
  • Good Colors, Evil Colors: She wears blue and red as her good colors. Black and blue as her evil.
  • Good Eyes, Evil Eyes: She has blue eyes when she's good. Red eyes when she's evil.
  • Fearful Symmetry: She does this a few times with Anpanman since they're equally matched. Also did this with her evil counterpart self.
  • Lethal Chef: In the 1997 film, she had trouble trying to make Anpanman's new head. She eventually got better.
  • Literal Split Personality: This happened to her when Dr. Hiyari created an experiment that would split both her good and evil counterparts apart. Unfortunately, this makes her evil side purely corrupted, while her other half is weak.
  • Loners Are Freaks: Pretty much the main reason why she's alone is because she doesn't want to harm anyone.
  • Promotion to Opening Titles: Since the fifth opening.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She's both! Her red heart represents her good side, while her blue one represents her dark side.
  • Sarashi: She wears a cloth wrapped around her head as her mask.
  • Shout-Out: She has two hearts, one red and one blue - just like Princess Sapphire.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: She's more dark and violent than her younger sister.
  • Spin Attack: Her main attack with her golden gymnastics ribbon. She can use this to wrap up her enemies or create tornadoes.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Whenever her blue heart triggers, she'll turn dark and go on a rampage.
  • Taken for Granite: Her pure evil counterpart can turn anyone she captures with her ribbon to stone.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Becomes this when she joins in with her sister.

Creampanda/(クリームパンダ)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/creampanna_9564.png

Voiced by: Miki Nagasawa

The fifth member of the team (sixth if you count Rollpanna) and the foster brother to Melonpanna.

  • Apologises a Lot: He does this a lot when he's paired up with Princess Durian.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Unlike the other 5 heroes, Creampanda is the first one to be the youngest in both age and episode-wise. He is also the first hero since Shokupanman not to be created by Uncle Jam. Also like Shokupanman, Creampanda is the first hero not to be introduced in a 100th episode (Melonpanna and Rollpanna debuted in episodes 200 and 300 respectively).
  • Brother–Sister Team: With Melonpanna.
  • Brought To You By The Letter C
  • Butt-Monkey: Suffers from this along with Cheese when they spend the day with Princess Durian.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Guu-Choki-Punch!!
  • Cool Mask: His eyes represent a panda.
  • Cousin Oliver: He is the youngest member of the team once the anime was a decade and was made to make Melonpanna be more nicer as to take her naive traits onto him. Despite that, Creampanda proves to be a reliable character in the show.
  • Cute Bruiser: Despite not being the strongest, he still likes to fight.
  • Determinator: As stated before, he has a heroic self esteem.
  • Edible Theme Naming: He is based on a Japanese Cream pan, which is bread buns filled with custard.
  • I Am Not Weasel: He doesn't take it kindly if you just call him panda.
  • Punny Name: A portmanteau of "Cream pan" and "panda".
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: He's the red to Melonpanna's blue.
  • Use Your Head: Pretty much his main method of attack, since his head is shaped like a head. It doesn't always work, however.

    Bakery Staff

Uncle Jam/(ジャムおじさん)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uncle_jam_5762.png

Voiced by: Hiroshi Masuoka (original), Kōichi Yamadera (current) (Japanese), José Luis Orozco (Latin American Spanish)

The owner of the bakery where Anpanman lives. He is very good at making bread and is also a mechanic.

  • Ace Pilot: Prior to his current job, he used to be a pilot. He still pulls this off after rebuilding the plane he had a long time ago.
  • Art Evolution: His eyes became bigger.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Pretty much the plane he built. The wings are made of hard bread, but they can be destroyed by a form of liquid.
  • Brought To You By The Letter J: His coffee mug and his plane have this.
  • Cool Car: The Anpanman-Mobile. It has also a bakery inside, which is helpful when he needs to make a new head for Anpanman. It can also turn into a boat, a submarine, and a aircraft.
    • Weaponized Car: While it doesn't have weapons, it does have an extended punching glove that pops out from the nose.
  • A Day in the Limelight: While he does appear in every episode, he does have a few episodes to himself. The most noticeable example is seeing what he does outside his normal job.
  • Disney Death: In the first episode, he tries to rescue Anpanman (back when he was a child) and falls off a cliff. Fortunately, he was saved by Anpanman.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He's very good at building and fixing any form of machinery.
  • Mistaken Identity: There are a few times that Baikinman will often disguise himself as Uncle Jam. One was to convince Tanuki-Oni that Butterko was in trouble, and another was to steal a wish from the Lamp Giant. He even did this in the Anpanman film 2011 to kidnap Kokorin in his fake Anpanman mobile and transform into his berserk form to rampage his home city.
  • Parental Substitute: He's pretty much the father/grandfather/uncle figure to everyone that resides at the bakery.

Butterko/(バタコさん)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/batako_5220.png

Voiced by: Rei Sakuma (Japanese), Adriana Nuñez (Latin American Spanish)

Uncle Jam's assistant. She helps out with making goods and sewing the heroes' capes whenever they get snagged.

  • A Day in the Limelight: She had a few episodes to herself, like when we see what she does when Uncle Jam is away.
  • Gender Flipped: See Lost In Translation.
  • Lost in Translation: When translating her Japanese name, -san is ambiguous enough to translate to either "Mr." or "Ms.", which can be confusing for some who haven't watched the anime since she does look more a like a boy. Some viewers guessed that she was possibly a boy before the anime's existence.
  • Shonen Hair: She seems to have this.
  • Token Girl: Before Melonpanna's debut, she was the only female in the bakery.
  • Vague Age: It's unknown what her exact age is as the term "san" means "Mr./Miss", meaning she could be a young adult. But her has tendencies to like childish things at times due to the nature of the show.

Cheese/(めいけんチーズ)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cheese_9190.png

Voiced by: Kōichi Yamadera

The pet dog to the Bakery. He was first lost in the woods after his original owner left him, but Anpanman soon found him and he's been part of the family ever since.

  • Action Pet: He's very helpful, and he even drives the Anpanman-Mobile whenever Uncle Jam has to make Anpanman's new head!
  • Cool Plane: He has a plane called "Chizubaketto-go" which he uses to take Rare Cheese over the skies.
  • The Nose Knows: Because he's a dog, he can identify where anyone or anything is. He can also sniff out food.
  • Speech-Impaired Animal: Though he never talks, he can understand others very well. He can even mimic other characters to describe the situation.
  • Those Two Guys: He's usually paired up with Creampanda.

    Allies

Hamigakiman/(はみがきまん)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hamigakiman_9561.png

Voiced by: Kaneto Shiozawa (original appearance - 2000), Daisuke Sakaguchi (current)

A living tube of toothpaste who protects others from cavities and toothaches.

Omusubiman/(おむすびまん)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/omusubiman.png
Voiced by: Hisako Kyoda
Debut: 4b

A rice ball-headed man who travels around, doing good deeds by protecting the innocent and stop any harmful acts from those are evil. He is also Komusubiman's mentor.

He first meets Anpanman after Baikinman traps him inside a large boulder and stops the villain from his act. Anpanman introduced himself and later the bakery crew, and the rice ball man agreed to stay with them for a while but had to leave after he finished the errands. Baikinman decides to get back at Omusubiman from their first encounter by baiting him, but none of the traps work until he decides to pretend that Batako is in trouble. This causes Omusubiman to fall inside a pitfall created by Baikinman, and later baits Anpanman about what happened to his new ally, but this is also a trap for the hero. However, Omusubiman was able to prevent this as he vented out steam from his head and they escaped soon after. Anpanman then tells Batako what happened, but he sees that Omusubiman just left to continue with his journey.

  • All Asians Wear Conical Straw Hats: Played straight, but in a good way. He can also use this as either a Flying Weapon or to ride on.
  • Breakout Character: He and Komusubiman were so popular that they appeared in a few film shorts.
  • Edible Bludgeon: He uses umeboshi (pickled plums) on enemies.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Omusubi is another word for rice-ball.
  • Power-Up Food: Eating umeboshi can make him powerful.
  • Promotion to Opening Titles: Since the third opening.
  • Rōnin
  • Vague Age: It's never stated how old Omusubiman is. He is often seen with Umeboshibi Baaya and some of the episodes imply that they're more than just friends, which parallels with Komusubiman and Umeko-chan (Umeboshibi Baaya's granddaughter). Which implies that he might be a senior. But then eariler episodes imply that Omusubiman has some feelings for Batako, who herself is somewhat a young adult. However because of the nature of the show's No Hugging, No Kissing policy, it's unknown if that is the case.

Komusubiman/(こむすびまん)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/komusubiman_7734.png

Voiced by: Megumi Hayashibara

A rice ball-headed boy who travels with Omusubiman, though he's seen mostly nowadays by himself.

Tekka no Maki-chan/(てっかのマキちゃん)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tekka_no_maki-chan_6854.png

Voiced by: Yoshiko Sakakibara (original), Masako Katsuki (current)

A woman who makes her signature food, Tuna Rolls. She is also an ally of Anpanman.

  • Ambiguously Related: Her pupil Tekka no Komaki-chan has many similar features such as their facial features and clothing and can pass as a sibling, daughter, or niece to Maki, unlike Kappamaki-kun. But it's never stated that Komaki and Maki are related.
  • Demoted to Extra: Tekka no Maki has been part of the main cast since her debut, but once her somewhat pupil Tekka no Komaki-chan was introduced in 2009, Maki was pushed aside for her and if she shows up in Komaki's episodes, it's mostly as a supporting member. Since the 2010s, she only had 3 episodes as the main character.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She only likes eating rolled sushi and dislikes eating Western foods.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Her name is based on a tuna roll, which is a form of sushi.
  • Improbable Weapon User: She uses her makitsu as her main weapon.
  • Promotion to Opening Titles: Since the fifth opening.
  • Tsundere: Though not always, she acted like this towards Princess Durian when the latter was trying to take her sushi without asking.
  • Vague Age: "Chan" is often used for younger women, but Tekka no Maki-chan acts like an older woman due to her tall design and behavior.

Katsubushiman/(かつぶしまん)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/katsubushiman_6812.png

A traveling man and a samurai who makes katsuobushi. He is also an ally to Anpanman.

  • Crazy-Prepared: Whenever someone's hungry, he'll pull his cart out of thin air and make his famous dish.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Katsubushi is Japanese for dried, fermented, and smoked skipjack tuna.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: He had some lunch with Baikinman and Dokinchan after Ikuradonchan made her dish in one episode.
  • One-Note Cook: Inverted. While he's best at only cooking his dish, he can also make other dishes based on noodles.
  • Primal Fear: He's scared of cats, and Baikinman often uses this as an advantage to weaken him. This is the reason why you don't see him interact with the other cat characters. Although he's friends with Nyanja.
  • Promotion to Opening Titles: Since the fifth opening.
  • Ship Tease: Oh boy, Tekka no Maki-chan since they met in episode 97. Even Melonpanna and Cheese often tease and support them.

Hamburger Kid/(ハンバーガーキッド)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hamburgerkid_5025.png

Voiced by: Yūji Mitsuya (Hamburger Kid), Kōichi Yamadera (Pickles)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uncleneji_5549.png
Uncle Negi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/naganegiman_5254.png
Naganegiman

Voiced by: Akio Ōtsuka

A friendly man who travels and gives out his signature food, naganegi. He's the masked hero, Naganegiman.

  • Edible Theme Naming: Negi is Japanese for scallion or green onion. Naganegi is "Long Onion".
  • Hand Behind Head: He often does this whenever someone talks about Naganegiman.
  • Improvised Zipline: In one short, he leaves his basket of green onions at Princess Doremi's castle grounds, so he uses his scarf as a zipline.
  • Leitmotif: Whenever Naganegiman appears, trumpets play in the background.
  • Mistaken Identity: In one episode, Uncle Negi's Naganegiman costume is stolen by Baikinman, who tries to make him look like a villain. He, fortunately, gets his costume back and clears his name after they discover it is Baikinman.
  • Promotion to Opening Titles: As Naganegiman in the eighth opening.
  • Secretly Complimenting Yourself: Uncle Negi can often happily comment on how wonderful his alter ego Naganegiman is.
  • Shout-Out: Naganegiman's costume is a shout-out to Zorro, which makes it an Actor Allusion since they're voiced by the same guy.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Between his debut appearance and the 2000s, Naganegiman had over 20 appearances including being a star in two of the movie shorts due to him being one of Yanase's favorite characters. However, by the 2010s, his episodes were reduced so the writers can use other characters.
  • Zorro Mark: Naganegiman's calling card. He will often leave this on either Baikinman's machinery or on mountains.

Ant Kid /(アリンコキッド)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arinkokiddo_646.png

A tiny cowboy ant who travels in a grasshopper. He is best for using his laser guns that can be used to shrink and grow things.

In his debut story, Ant Kid was hired by Baikinman to deal with Anpanman (having been duped into thinking that he's an enemy) so he can try shrinking him as the alien can beat him. Anpanman tries to persuade the cowboy that he's a good guy, but later learns the truth after the hero defeats him at a duel.

Voiced by: Kyoko Tongu (original), Urara Takano (current)

A Ninja cat who travels around so he can be a better ninja. He often helps out Anpanman at times.

  • Blow You Away: One of his tricks.
  • Cat Ninja: He is an anthropomorphic cat who strives to be a better ninja. This is reflected in his name, a portmanteau of "ninja" and "nyan", the Japanese word for "meow".
  • Cats Are Magic: One of his main tricks is that he can disappear before your eyes and can transform by using a Tanuki leaf.
  • Cats Are Mean: Averted. He's very nice towards others. Although Baikinman in disguise does play it straight.
  • Faking the Dead: One trick he has is that if Baikinman stomps on him, he'll disappear and replace himself with a decoy (eg. a log).
  • Katanas Are Just Better: One of his main weapons.
  • Meaningful Name: Nyan is Japanese for meow.
  • The Mentor: He was this to Creampanda and Cheese in one episode when he was teaching them how to be ninja. This came in handy later in the episode.
  • Smoke Out: One of his tricks.
  • Verbal Tic: Because he is a cat, he often says "nyan" more than a few times.
