Ask the Tropers:
open Rude troper deleting additions Videogame
Backstory: Ash from Evil Dead is being added as DLC for a game called Dead by Daylight. Here's the announcement trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIn-XB9QSM4
I added Ash to the character page for DBD only to find it was all deleted by a Troper named Troper Be Doper. This was his editing reason: "This could not be a more obvious April Fools joke. Look at the date* he's released for cripes sake. Deleting this."
- April 2nd
So I decided to sent a PM asking him not to delete it and that it wasn't an April Fools joke since it was officially announced (plus I heavily doubt they would waste money to get Bruce Campbell, make fully functional perks and model and have him playable at PAX East, including complete alternate cosmetics too.)
This was what I got in response: "It's not happening. This couldn't be more obviously an April Fools gag if they released him on the day. I'm deleting him come April 1st when this turns out to be a joke. Just you wait. And I'm gonna rub it in your face."
It appears that there's no report troper feature on TV Tropes so this seemed like the best place to talk about it.
I would have added screenshots of the PMs but it seems it won't allow it here. You can, however, look at the DBD character page editing history to see his edit where he removed Ash.
Edited by nombretomadoopenSpeculative WMG? Film
Found this on WMG.Toy Story 4 which looks like complaining too...
- Perhaps it will... at 98%.
- Ugh, seriously? There are tons of movies people have questioned the existence of and are they all inferior? No.
openGuest0122
Guest0122's edits have been...subpar, ranging from making a Creating New Pages page instead of a sandbox, and then replacing all of the text with "this really helped", as well as making an actual creator page in a misspelled namespace.
Sending a notifier now but they may need a further talking to. I will also cutlist the above page in the morning if it hasn't been done already.
openDon't know where to put some works?
I've been having trouble with these works:
- Sesame Street: I think of it as a live-action series but some people try to put it in "puppet shows". When I think of puppet shows, I think of Punch and Judy and stuff like that, and also Sesame Street has live-action people as well as puppets, so it's a bit of a mystery to me.
- Jaiden Animations and The Odd1s Out are both called "web video" but they're animated.
- Neopets is not listed as a video game, but it's clearly a game.
Such trouble has led to red links, works being listed twice, etc. What do I do?
openUnreleased English Localizations
Per Administrivia. How To Create A Works Page: "So if the work has an official localized title, use the English title for the page and add the non-English title as a redirect."
There are some foreign series listed on rights websites that have localized English titles (Eccho Rights and The Global Agency for example). However, many of these have never been purchased by distributors and released, though they may be in the future.
Should this localized title be used, even if it hadn't been released yet? I know sometimes these titles may be changed subject to the distributor. There's also the issue of localized titles with no connection whatsoever to the original, which may cause confusion in the absence of an actual release (especially if it's a well-known series).
How should this be addressed?
openAlphabetizing symbols
If you have an example work that begins with a symbol (+, ., etc.), does it sort using the database title or custom title? #4 on How to Alphabetize Things suggests "special characters" refers only to letters with diacritics.
openKoreanSeries / KoreanDrama
Korean Drama and Korean Series appear to be near-duplicate pages in terms of function. Korean Drama provides a brief description of Korea-produced shows, while Korean Series is strictly an index. The only other difference is that Korean Series explicitly allows only bluelinks, while Korean Drama lists series without pages yet.
Should these entries be merged? If yes, should the categorized bluelinks on Korean Series alone be moved over, or should series without pages on Korean Drama be integrated into the genre-sorted index?
openAlphabetisation query
How should Music trope lists be alphabetised? By the name of the song, or the name of the singer? Likewise, should Mythology & Folklore be alphabetised by the myth that it's referencing (e.g. D for demon, V for vampire) or by its country of origin (I for India, etc.)?
openPage about the meta scene of a game
Is this kosher? Seems to be troping real life.
open Is there a trope page for female cashier type characters who hate their job Western Animation
I'm talking about characters like Enid from OK KO, Wendy from Gravity Falls, Gloria from Big City Greens, Xochi from Victor and Valentino, Frankie from Fosters Home, and Gwen from Camp Camp just to name a few. They are all wage workers who hate their job. Some of them have passions that are artsy. All of them hang out with small children.
openDescription of popularity
Is it kosher for a work's main page to mention the work's popularity? It seems like bringing unnecessary subjectivity into the description, though I suppose listing the work's position in official rankings might be more OK?
openRemoved YMMV Western Animation
cherrycore1213 removed all examples but one from YMMV.King Star King back in 2017. Should they be restored?
open Issues with YMMV page Film
Hello,
I created a film page for Little (2019) and yet the YM Mv page keeps saying it needs to be indexed. I though YMMV pages don't need indexing.
Edited by MsCC93openTooth Fairy
I've noticed that the Tooth Fairy trope is deleted. Granted, I wanted to recreate it, but this is my first time creating a new trope. I may need need suggestions for examples and I need people correcting my grammar description and/or people telling to write a better description, but I want to give this a shot. If not because of certain reasons, it's okay for me not to recreate it and I understand though if there are certain reasons why it was deleted and why I should never recreate it in the first place
Edited by louisent31open Tigra: Potential Woobie? Print Comic
So, The Woobie page is one of those "only mods can edit" pages, I get that. But where do I contact the mods about a possible addition? C-Lister The Avengers character Tigra seems to me that she fits the criteria:
- Her husband was killed as part of a conspiracy of dirty cops.
- She switched from "The Cat" (a costumed hero) to Tigra (a literal Cat Girl) after being mortally wounded in battle.
- Her transformation has repeatedly left her mentally unstable, resulting in humiliating actions that include her becoming a feral monster who was shrunk down to the size of a house cat and kept in a cage somewhere in Hank Pym's lab.
- She has repeatedly been overwhelmed by opponents, who have often humiliated her extensively; this list includes Molecule Man, the Hood, Kraven, and Graviton. Humiliations include being forced to act like a pet for Molecule Man, and being subjected to a real-life home invasion style beatdown by the Hood.
- She's actually left the Avengers at least once due to feeling she's not cut out to dealing with the threats they face.
- She was raped-by-deceit by a Skrull in the form of Hank Pym, which got her pregnant.
openStrange caption
I don’t understand why the caption for Sweeney Todd is linked to What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?. Why would anyone think that the musical was in any way for kids? It’s not like it’s a dark animated movie like Water Ship Down. It’s very blatantly a show for adults.
Edited by Loopytires55openThe Incredible Hulk 2008 Film
In the scene where Bruce exits the bathroom after retrieving the flash drive Betty asks him if he ate it to which he replies , “No, the situation required some improvisation”. I believe this to mean he had to safeguard it in his rectum. Is that correct?
Edited by Rob2008openIndvidual pages for Trails of Cold Steel games.
Ok, so I noticed that The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel page has tropes from all four of its currently available games listed altogether. I feel that this is starting to become a mess on its own, so I think each game in the Trails of Cold Steel series needs to have their own individual pages to sort out their respective tropes.
I would like to request this change for two reasons;
First, Trails of Cold Steel I was just recently re-released on the PlayStation 4 with II coming just around the corner in May. In addition, III is currently being localized and will release sometime this fall. With the amount of new releases this year, it will no doubt bring a lot of newcomers to the pages, so I think it will be really helpful for newcomers to the games if they're not confused to the jumbled mess of tropes from later games they haven't even played yet.
Second, it reduces the risk of spoiler exposure from later games. The main issue I have with the current page are its heavy spoilers from all games, especially those that are yet to be localized. I think the current setup will only discourage newcomers from actively contributing to the page (myself included), so by creating new pages, spoilers can be kept at a minimum and only exclusive to their respective games.
So what do you think? I would just use the main page to list general tropes present throughout the series while game-specific tropes can be moved to their respective pages.

I'm currently working on a page for STX Entertainment, and I'd like to know what's the minimum length I'd need for the description.
