Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- • Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.
- • Help identifying a work. See MediaFinder.
- • Asking if a trope example is valid. See the Trope Talk forum.
- • Proposing new tropes. See TropeLaunchPad.
- • Making bug reports. See QueryBugs.
- • Asking for new wiki features. See QueryWishlist.

Ask the Tropers:
openAnna dies?
Found this example on The Hero Dies:
- This ultimately what happens to Anna at the end of Frozen, where she abandons the chance to save her own life by shielding the blow meant for her sister and ended up getting frozen solid in the process just as Hans sword is about to land on her.
What the example doesn't mention is that Anna is revived thanks to Elsa's love. Should this be marked as a subversion, or cut completely?
resolved Creator bashing?
BNSF 1995 just added the following into Hyrule Conquest's description:
Note that UndyingNephalim is a somewhat infamous figure in the Zelda community, primarily for creating role-playing games that are essentially Hate Fics directed at Saria, either making her Yandere for Link, or killing her off in a dismissive manner.
This does sound awfully like Creator Bashing, especially as most of it isn't even true.
openCommented out ROCEJ
This was added commented out to YMMV.My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic S 8 E 16 Friendship University:
- What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: It's tempting to draw comparisons between Friendship University and Trump University. Please don't.
I previously removed it per this since it didn't explain what about it was this. This was added back with an explanation.
Should it be uncommented out? Or is it worth keeping if the troper isn't confident enough to add it uncommented out?
openTitle tropes for works in same year? Web Original
This applies more to Web Original and You Tube works rather than Live-Action TV or Western Animation but this is a general question.
With movies, such as Halloween (1978) and Halloween (2018), it's easy to title them per year with year in bracket (auto-added via wiki software) since there's a long gap between a Continuity Reboot.
However, if a work undergoes a Continuity Reboot in a short space of time (maybe even the same year), how should it be titled?
Should it be a separate work page, or should the work page be split into years when it's very definitely a Continuity Reboot?
The reason I ask is, I've heard rumors that a Web Original will be undergoing a Continuity Reboot in September, even though it launched early on in the year.
Although I haven't found any examples (yet), I'm trying to ensure this is compliant with our rules. (I know Work Pages Are a Free Launch, but less so on the Naming Conventions for work pages).
Finally, one other question on Web Original pages, although blogs probably aren't notable, would a website that has articles, but hosted on wordpress.com count as Web Original (not my website, but one I visit frequently) or another namespace?
Edited by Merseyuser1openImage uploader size limit
Why is there a size limit for the image uploader when it automatically resizes images to 350px anyway? I remember some people bringing up a thread for suggesting features to TV Tropes, but I can't find it anywhere. Where do I go for this?
openWhen should a Character Tropes page be broken up into multiple pages?
So I've been working on this character tropes page for the past month. It currently has 700 bullet points and counting and a lot of folders.
What is the threshold for having long pages like these broken up into smaller subpages?
The same goes for character pages that have a lot of tropes on their lonesome.
openNo Title
MonieBrony25's contributions to the site are almost literally nothing but complaining about how offended they are by the notion of anything resembling sexual freedom. The sole exception is this one.
No wiki edits, though.
Given the absurdity of the comments, assuredly a troll. "Anyone who knows what "promiscuity" is knows that having 2 diff. sexual partners is being promiscuous (if at the same time, not if years apart). You don't have to be from Afghanistan to know that."
openBeginning of an edit war?
Hi.
Troper @Seraphine reverted one of my edits in Love Hina page, in the Vindicated by History section. The original one was about how "Love Hina is an inverted example of this trope because the constant abuse which Keitaro suffered in the story". Seraphine reverted to this example. I never heard this in Anime communities. What I see is Love Hina being praised as good harem manga. I never heard a hatedom towards it because "Keitaro was abused". I edited it sometime ago because I felt it was a misleading example, considering this justification could be used to any anime and manga which the main character is punched or abused for laughs.
I do not think his justifications to revert it as valid but I want to ask you guys your opinions about it. And to avoid an edit war.
Edited by mizorefanopenAdding Subpages
I know how to add subpages by pressing the Create New button on a work's main page (by "subpages" I'm referring to pages like the "Nightmare Fuel" or "Fridge" sections of a work), but I noticed that on works with less-developed pages, the Create New button doesn't give you the option of adding certain subpages. I can't figure out why this is and it seems random to me. Can somebody explain this to me? If not, is there another way I can create subpages?

Why is the The Legend of Zelda Fanfic Recs page locked?
EDIT: Other pages seem to be arbitrarily locked too (at least for me), most annoyingly the Wiki Sandbox, but I know it’s not a restriction on my account or something because most pages I can edit just fine.

Title says it all. Is there a way to prevent this from happening further? Regardless thanks again for the help.
open Villian Trope
I sometimes see it on television, the villain (usually the chessmaster or man behind the man type), when they see or hear something pleasing, they rub their hands together, usually accompanied by them saying, "Good, good." What is this trope?
openTropes Being Played With
Just checking, saying that a trope is being "played with" without specifying how (ie. Downplayed, subverted, deconstructed, etc) doesn't count as an example, correct?
openTLP draft ready for launch, but troper not active
I noticed that the Pest Episode TLP is ready for launch. The I messaged the OP, and I haven’t received a response. What is the best solution?
openTrope Repair Shop
I'm confused by the How To Fix A Trope page. It implies that a crowner should be added immediately after a discussion is created, but another place says you should wait. It doesn't say anywhere how to create a crowner, or how to get a forum approved by a moderator. Help?

I'm trying to find out how to do an Awesome Music tab redirect on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars page like a lot of Star Wars movies have on their pages.
openRevert request for Difficulty Spike
On Difficulty Spike, an edit on June 19 that meant to add an example accidentally deleted a very large portion of the examples.
I would like to request a moderator revert of the page in order to fix this problem (the added example can be readded properly later).
openymmv page to Family Unfriendly Aesop
Someone created an ymmv page to Family-Unfriendly Aesop.
I read a fanfiction where Naruto was in clock town and went to the stock pot inn and I can't remember the name do any of y'all know what I'm talking about or know the name ?
