During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Found this under YMMV page on "The Darkness" video game section:
I don't know if he counts, but I AM pretty sure he wasn't approved.
Also, Mellow rewrite:
- Duane Mellor, from "Eater", is a Cajun murderer and "Eater" who was arrested for torturing, murdering and eating vast amounts of innocent people, often keeping them alive for days so he could cut pieces off and eat them. Once captured, Mellor waits until the graveyard shift before using a voodoo ritual, devouring the souls of several officers with their hearts to take their forms and play a sadistic game of cat and mouse with the young female rookie cop on duty, solely because he enjoyed frightening his targets. When his patience is exhausted, Mellor simply goes for the kill.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsCalls him Nellor in the last sentence
Pretty sure it should be Soul Eating
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Also, can someone clarify:
Can someone clarify if Palpatine has enough bodycount in this novel to be able to qualify as CM in this specific work alone, because from the writeup all he did is just killed a few people (his 4 sublings, his parents and couple more people). Granded most of those were his family, considering the high heinous standart, does this alone enough to make him count in this novel alone?
and : Fixed.
As for Palpatine in Plagueis: He also works to institute the blockade...I'd say it's fine.
BTW, Lighty, the split for Sinis and Sciron work for you? I know they're uber-short, but they aren't a duo (hell, we could combine them AND Procrustes and get a somewhat-short entry).

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM Drafts@ACW What blockade?
"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."I think he's talking about the blockade of Naboo.
And I'd say familicide is pretty heinous in itself.
I think we can keep the Darth Plagueis stuff for a few reasons:
2. One of the book's goals was to show just how bad Palps is even compared to other Sith.
3. Killing his family is noteworthy even for Palpatine.
4. I like that quote on the SW page and would like to keep it.
5. Is my favourite number.
There's also the fact Palpatine does a ton of stuff there...assisting with starting and masterminding a few wars, political crises, the Naboo blockade, and his not only murdering Plagueis but torturing him to death, experimenting on others to find the key with Midichlorians...
Like the entire book makes it super clear Palpatine is not your garden variety Sith. He's way worse.
Is the book in anyway part of star wars canon. Just curious?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Oh, right, ACW? Yeah, I'd combine.
And it's part of Legends SORTA....James Luceno canonized it in broad strokes in his Tarkin novel.
Oh, right, and speaking of Tarkin? Well, in a recent comic, he had biochips installed in the helmets of the death star's gunners. When they hesitate to blow up Alderaan, he has them sent for and admonishes them, reveals he would've happily destroyed his own homeworld without hesitation and airlocks them into space.
Ah Tarkin.
Never change you sly dog. You.
That definitly is worth adding to his entry as well.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Maybe then we should rewrite this entry to expand on the whole "masterminding a war and torture" thing? Because i don't get much from this writeup aside from him killing his family without remorse.
As for The Darkness example. I played the game a number of times, and there was a time I considered talking about Shrote...but he's shrounded in too much Offscreen Villainy and relies to much on Paulie Franchetti's crimes for what we see onscreen. He's one of those "Just The Dragon" examples from where I'm sitting.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."Okay, I'll let everyone decide between A, B, and C for Theseus:
- A: 3 separate entries.
- B: Combine Sinis and Sciron; leave Procrustes separate.
- C: Combine all 3.
I personally favor A, but I'll see what everyone says.
As for Tarkin, do we wanna do what we did with Palpatine, and split up his (canon at least) entry? As it is now, it's 326 words, and with the addition it'll become even bigger.
