Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Well, time to discuss FNAF The Fourth Closet.

Since we all know about Afton at this point, I'll cut to the chase, yes he still qualifies. Elizabeth makes her appearance in the book, and it is made explicit that, at least in this continuity, he never truly loved her. He neglected her in life and spent more time with his animatronics than her. She actually believed that he loved Circus Baby more than he loved her, which caused her to wish she could become her, although, even after dying and coming to possess her, she is still neglected by him. He never abused her in any way, but he neglected her and never truly loved her. In the book, she is trying her best to please him so he can finally come to earn his affection, while he treats her as a minion and nothing more.

In the book, William has set up base at Circus Baby's Pizza after escaping at the end of the second book. It's revealed that Charlotte is actually an android. It was not Henry's son Sammy that William killed all those years ago, but Charlie. After Charlies murder, Henry created four android versions of her that contained her memories (just like Astro Boy with Dr. Tenma or Android 16 with Dr. Gero). Each of the models were supposed to be made to represent different stages of Charlies life, allowing her to age by downloading the memories of the previous model into the next. She was raised to believe that Sammy was killed in the incident instead so she didn't know she was an android (it's not revealed what actually happened to Sammy in between Charlies murder and her original android body being activated, but it's mentioned that Henry's wife divorced him in between the incidents, so it can be assumed she took Sammy with her).

William's Springtrap body is falling apart with age, so he has removed his endoskeleton body holding his corpse and soul from it, and he now plans to find a way to keep himself from just rusting away. He has kidnapped several children to use them for an experiment to try and help him preserve his undead immortality, while also planning to get back at the kids who have caused him so much trouble in the past two books. He sends Elizabeth to kill Charlies final model after her memories were transferred to it following her apparent death at the end of the second book. In the meantime, he plans on continuing his plans for immortality. It's also revealed that he mashed the endoskeletons of several of the Freddy Fazbears animatronics together to create Enard, with the souls of the children being in terrible pain from the condition Enard is in. William finally dies for good when he's shoved into a furnace, allowing all of the souls to finally move on as the man who killed them has finally been put down for good. Elizabeth dies when Charlie unleashes the robot Henry created to kill him when he committed suicide, with the robot killing them both.

So, yeah, he still counts. Not much to add. Some mention of how he neglected his daughter in this continuity and what he did with Enard would be nice.

New proposal, from The Slaughter.

Who's the candidate?

The Lsdy of Darkness, a demon from prehistory.

What does she do?

100 years ago, a Satanic cult summoned the Lady, awakening her via Human Sacrifice. She repayed them by slaughtering the survivors when their leader tried to control her. She lies in wait in rhe house where the sacrifice was made, waiting for the ritual to be finished so she can bring Hell on Earth. The cult's spirits are trapped in the house, stuck in eternal torment as the Lady's servants.

60 years later, a single mother has moved into the house. The Lady torments her with nightmares for a couple of nights, before going on the attack. She then killed the woman's daughter, who is later stated to be 8, with an axe. After the woman finds her daughter's body, the Lady tosses her down the stairs, causing her to be impaled on a coat rack. Their spirits are also trapped in the house to act as a bridge between the worlds.

40 years after that, a group of college students show up at the house to fix it ip for later sale. Two of the students have sex, awakening the Lady to continue the ritual. She immediately gets to work, dragging a stoner into a pit in the basement, mutilating him the whole way. She then tried to drown one of the coiple who awakened her, but she escapes.

After our victim pool discovers that they're trapped in the house until the ritual is complete, a jock decides to leave. While he's trying to escape, the Lady summons a gale force wind that pins him to a wall. The wind is so strong that the debris im the room chops the Lady's victim to pieces. She then dragged the woman she tried to drown earlier into the bwthtub again, succesfully offing her.

Some of our heroes try to burn their way out of the house, but the Lady has a counterplan. You see, the last three kills? Were meant to correspond with the four elements, respectively earth, air and water. Now she needs fire. She lights the turoentine before the trap is fully set, agonizingly burning a guy alive. These kills make the spirit flesh, which she celebrates by slicing a businessman's throat, using his blood to awaken her elemental victims, along with the businessman, as her undead slaves.

After a sequence of desperately trying to escape the undead, they manage to get a kill in the form of the businessman's assistant. Eventually, our surviving heroes confront the Lady, who offers them rulership over the living and the dead by her side. When they resist, she tries to kill them both, but they manage to destroy the book which magically that keeps her on this plane, banishing the Lady of Darkness forever.

Except no.

You see, the final requirement for the ritual is for somebody to make the "Ultimate Sacrifice," suicide. And Dana did just that to blow up the Lady's book. Having taken over Dana's body, the Lady rips off the sple survivor's head. As the sky turns red, the Lady of Darkness prepares to bring about the end of days...

Yep. Karma Houdini and Downer Ending.

Heinousness?

Big Bad, sets it. As for the horror movie baseline, she meets it with her And I Must Scream acts, which include trying to trap the whole Earth in eternal torment.

Mitigating factors?

While the Lady is a demon from a prehistoric time of darkness, there's no evidence she lacks agency. In fact, she's described as the most evil woman in her species.

Aa for redeeming qualities? None, she's a sadistic demon.

Verdict?

[tup] for Lady of Darkness. Yay standard horror Diabolus ex Machina cliche.

Also here's Max's write-up. Surprisingly, someone already made a page for the film.

Crocodile 2: Death Swamp: Max is the leader of a gang of trigger-happy bank robbers. After robbing a bank and killing several police officers, Max and his gang board a plane to flee to Mexico. When the pilot is forced to deviate from the flight path, Max and his minions hijack the plane, inadvertently crashing it and killing most of the passengers in the process. Once everyone has recovered, Max forces the survivors to haul his suitcases of money to his destination or else he'll kill them all. When a crocodile starts killing the survivors one by one, Max continues to put the survivors and even his own gang in harm's way, not caring in the slightest as more of them perish. After Sol becomes fed up with Max's schemes and tries to leave, Max shoots him in the back and leaves him to die. Even with a crocodile terrorizing the survivors, Max shows that he's an even bigger threat than the actual monster.

Slow week this week. Well, I should have the 24 ones for the merger, plus I should be able to read Armageddon Force and I'll have a rewrite.

  • Armageddon Force, by Adam Gratteau: In a world ravaged by fear and war, Dr. Edgar Malbarn is one of its biggest threats. He runs the secret organization the Carvina Corporation, which takes wounded soldiers off of battlefields and sends them to Malbarn and his doctors, where they torture them while reconstructing their bodies with mechanical replacements and prosthetics, planning on creating mechanically modified soldiers that they can brainwash and use to spread chaos across the world. Protagonists Jon and Yui fall into Malbarn's clutches after losing limbs on the battlefield, and Malbarn begins torturing them by not sedating them while performing surgery, pouring acids on their open wounds, and heating the metal and screws before attaching the pieces to their bodies. Malbarn taunts Jon, and tells him about each death that occurs during procedures. He lashes out at Jon when he gets angry, smacking him or stabbing him with a screwdriver. When Jon and Yui are saved by a freedom force, Malbarn fights back and loses his arm in the process. He has his doctors give him a prosthetic one similar to Jon's metal arms, then kills them all. He hunts Jon and his friends down, causing chaos to drive them out. When he finds them, he gathers an army of Carvina guards, bombs the freedom force's headquarters, drugs force member Adam, and sends the army to kill the force. During the fight, Jon gets away and fights Malbarn, who beats Jon down. Jon retaliates and manages to cripple, then kill the doctor. The army is defeated, but Jon and Yui still have nightmares about Malbarn after his death.

First off, the book's like under 220 pages; nowhere NEAR long enough for that long an entry (260+ words). There's also the pothole-first name-pothole thing. And factually, it's Carvina Cooperation, not corporation. I hope to read the book by Saturday, then create a page and rewrite that day.

BTW, turns out the author was only a high school senior at the time the book was published. Is that one of the youngest to create a CM (not counting actors)?

Alright, so the current tally is a unanimous 13 [tup] for Megatron and a unanimous 9 [tdown] for Starscream. So, here's Megatron's write-up.

  • Transformers: The Game (DS): Megatron lacks his film counterpart's nobler traits and replaces it with raw brutality. Having plunged Cybertron into civil war after killing his own father, Megatron tore out Bumblebee's vocal processor when he launched the Allspark into space. He followed the Allspark to Earth, but wound up frozen in the Arctic Circle. After being thawed out by his followers, Megatron's murderous rage was only tempered when they planned to blow up Hoover Dam and drown thousands of people. In Autobots, Megatron used the Allspark to terrorize the city of Tranquility and mortally wounded Create-A-Bot while trying to kill his own brother, Optimus Prime. In Decepticons, he tracked down and murdered Jazz after he foiled his plot to destroy Hoover Dam. After terrorizing Tranquility, Megatron killed Optimus and hunted down his traitorous lieutenant Starscream. Create-A-Bot was gravely wounded after helping him defeat Starscream, and Megatron chose to kill him rather than waste resources trying to repair him. Megatron showed no remorse for the Decepticons who gave their lives for him and believed that the weak were only meant to serve the strong.

On a side note, I believe this the first time Frank Welker has voiced a Complete Monster. For someone who has voiced hundreds, if not thousands of characters, it's a bit surprising it's taken this long for him to do so.

[down][down] Ah, my mistake. I was bound to miss some characters he's voiced.
