Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Yes the TSA's Duo there.

And lest we forget, we still need to start that thread for Final Fantasy's page replacement. Who was gonna do that?

  • Omikron: The Nomad Soul: Astaroth, Prince of Infernal Darkness, was sealed away after trying to conquer Phaenon. From his prison Astaroth, to restore his power, hijacked the supercomputer Ix and sent his Demons to prey on and consume the souls of the people. Said souls would be sent to the Reservoir to be tortured, the pain restoring his strength. He also created the game itself to ensnare the gamers in our universe and eat their souls, his ultimate goal to enslave both his universe and ours, devouring millions of souls to do so.

Sooooooo anyone object if I reserve Kingdom Hearts IV? I am happy to collab of course. I have worked with Scraggle over KH in the past, but I think someone was looking at Union X and Dark Road - speaking of, the finale to that's coming soon and they announced a new Mobile game: Missing Link.

EDIT: (Just noticed the double post. Sorry. I was in a bit of a rush and hype.)

By the way, is it normal that in the Complete Monster Final Fantasy page the FFXV entry is not sorted inside the main "Examples" folder of the "Main Series and Associated Works" section?

Also noted a typo in the FFXIV Valens entry: "An abusive boss, Valens would leave his men to die without a care if he he sees no value in them anymore." (One too many "he").

Can't fix those myself, the page is locked (I guess only ACW can modify them?).

[tup] Morgana and Horvath, Apprentice is one of many guilty pleasures of mine... Now for the fourth Mega Man X baddie, there's still one potential Maverick left after I propose this guy.

Who is he? Frost Walrus is a sadistic Sociopathic Soldier of the separatist Repliforce Army, a rival group of Maverick Hunters who decide to launch a Military Coup against the human government in name of their independence. A convicted criminal even before the Great Repliforce War, Frost Walrus was saved from execution by the army and repaid them by disobeying orders whenever possible to satisfy himself with grotesque war crimes. When the war begins, Frost Walrus takes several Reploids to a remote cavern and freezes their legs and arms, all to watch them slowly freezing to death but but unable to do anything about it—A high-ranking Repliforce officer is notified of this and visits Frost Walrus to personally reprimand him for causing senseless violence that was not helping with their revolution at all, Frost Walrus then decides that Hunting the Most Dangerous Game would be the best way to solve this problem.

He releases his victims and brutally butchers the hapless Reploids, going as far as to bisect one of them. X and his partner—Maverick Hunters veteran Blizzard Buffalo—arrive at the horrific scene and try to put an end to the carnage, Frost Walrus quickly deals with both of them and manages to kill Buffalo before escaping. It's here that X learns the true extent of his sadism, turns out Frost Walrus is a prolific Cop Killer who likes to murder famous Maverick Hunters, taking their corpses to his personal "Room of the Wild Ones" as morbid trophies.

''Listen, the people being collected in here... Are the ones who held out particularly well, catch my drift? Me killing them was just a natural matter of course, it's the ones who can hold on to life for more than 20 seconds that qualify to be displayed here. The blockheads call me violent, but it's nothing like that. I'm a kind-hearted man who offers those piles of scrap a place to die!"

X infuriates Frost Walrus by destroying his macabre Room of the Wild Ones and the two begin to fight, with Frost Walrus excitingly confessing his desire to add X to his new collection after the fight is done. Luckly for X, the supreme commander of the Repliforce himself arrives to personally execute Frost Walrus, saving X in the process.

Heinous? Frost Walrus lacks the destructive plans of the Mavericks and a few of the Repliforce Army—Jet Stingray in particular had orders to cut the lifeline of 800,000 families, which actually left him conflicted for a brief moment. Frost Walrus makes up for it by filling a unique niche in the manga, he's one of the rare Reploids to be a Serial Killer and an accomplished one at that.

Mitigating Factors? Below zero, no pun intended. He's a just a vicious Reploid war criminal, the Repliforce Army barely tolerate this guy and they end up stopping him.

Conclusion? [tup]

I'll fix the typo in the Sandbox. As for your other question...I'm sure I had a reason, I just can't remember.

As for Frost: Leaning yes, but even with his niche the manga seems to have a HIGH standard. Also, does he even believe what he's saying?

Okay, that answers that, but then there's still the standard. When you have the other keepers who attempt to or actually DO kill thousands if not millions (billions in Sigma's case?), I'm a bit wary. Though I guess for his tier he's okay, and it's not like a Dragon Ball thing.

[tup] Sorcerer Apprentice duo and the X candidates, especially Frost Walrus I was thinking putting him because even among other Mavericks, Frosty is in his own level sadism especially when he presented Buffalo after knocking X unconscious just to torment him further.

Actually I would like to add on the Jet Stingray example of the heinous, while he was task to destroy a city, Jet still went as far as to warn the residents ahead of time to get them to evacuate, even sending his own men to help with the evacuation effort. Almost all the Mavericks in X4 at least has some sort of redeeming quality, whether it's honor, genuine loyalty, etc yet Frost out heinous them personally despite all he has is an arctic base, in comparison to a air fleet or a massive laser canon.

Yes to Frost.

Remember that arsonist I mentioned in my previous effortpost? I rewatched the episodeā€¦

What is the work?

"Tinder Box" is the 22nd episode of CSI: Miami's first season.

Eric Delko and Tim "Speed" Speedle go to a nightclub called "Club Descent" to socialize. When the DJ sets off pyrotechnics, the club is consumed in flames, killing dozens of people via smoke inhalation and stampeding.

The perpetrator turns out to be a supposed friend of Delko's.

Who is Danny Maxwell and what has he done?

Danny Maxwell is the bouncer at the club.

When the fire starts, Danny attempts to put it out with a fire extinguisher, but fails to do so.

In actuality, Danny had doused the curtains near the DJ's pyrotechnics in rum, killed the bartender who witnessed him arranging the arson, and exited the premises before returning to perform engineered heroics.

Danny's stunt results in Dozens of people suffering from smoke inhalation, including one of his coworkers who smacked her head in a shower due to said smoke inhalation, as well as at least one woman being trampled.

After Delko ties a blood sample from Danny to blood at the scene of the crime, Delko confronts Danny, who tries to justify his actions by highlighting his heroic actions, and saying he wanted to stand out.

Danny is then arrested and incarcerated.

Mitigating Factors?

Danny shows no remorse for causing the deaths of several people in an attempt to play hero, even if he didn't necessarily plan to kill them.

Danny may have told Delko to get to safety during the fire, but this is more of an attempt to make himself look heroic, given he started the fire in the first place.

Danny's regard for his family is less loving and more viewing their status as a badge of honour to which he aspires.

Heinousness?

The club owner may have intentionally sabotaged the club to commit insurance fraud, but Danny set the fire of his own accord in an attempt at engineered heroics, and killed the guy who could have stopped him.

He has at least 28 victims in terms of injury and death, maybe more, one of the highest body counts for a Fake Ultimate Hero, and one of the higher arsonist body counts in the CSI-verse. At least 15 people die because Danny wanted to play the hero.

Verdict?

Burn him.
