Misused (new crowner 15 January 2022): Wiki Tropes

So, this index is already listed on Tropes Needing TRS because of the following: In 2021 (link to thread), Fora's tropes were merged into Forum Speak due to a lack of examples for those tropes. Wiki Tropes has roughly the same problem, especially because a lot of those pages (such as Red Link and Blue Link, which are also used on other wikis, such as Wikipedia and its sister sites) don't cover wikis other than TV Tropes despite the page's description saying it usually covers wikis in general; some of the tropes in question actually are specific to TV Tropes. Since this category's scope is mostly restricted to TV Tropes, a lot of them could easily be moved to Administrivia, especially since some (such as Square Peg, Round Trope and Edit War) already have been.

Given that the Fora TRS is now closed and it did discuss that its scope of merging many of these mini-tropes into Forum Speak should probably continue on Wiki Tropes, it makes sense to continue here.

So I am guessing quite a few of the wiki tropes could be merged with TV Tropes Glossary? Like what we did for Fora tropes and Forumspeak?

I haven’t looked at the index in full yet to figure which goes where but I will later.

Yes, I agree that a lot of the items could be merged into TV Tropes Glossary.

Incidentally, someone should probably tag all the articles listed on Wiki Tropes.

Acronym Trope Names should probably stay where it is as it's probably not used for anything that would warrant Administrivia/ anymore, but it needs to make sure that it actually has tropes and not works on it (clearly there are some).

Browser Narcotic seems redundant with TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life.

Do we have a page on our "rivalry" with The Other Wiki? If so, Dr Pedia And Mr Trope could be merged there. If not, perhaps we should make Dr Pedia And Mr Trope into that page? It's kind of unclear what the page is getting at other than "TV Tropes and Wikipedia are different" and I think this could be explained in a way that is both funnier and more clear.

I'm ok with the proposed merge but can we keep the pages (e.g. Data Vampires) as redirects so you can still bluelink the terms?

Yeah, in fact that was my idea - redirect these subpages to Forum Speak (or TV Tropes Glossary)

Browser Narcotic is, in theory, "this website will suck up a lot of your time" and not specific to us, whereas TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life is half that, half "recognizing tropes will make twists in media more predictable and less fun".

The latter isn't even a trope, so move it to JFF, I'd say. Dunno about the former.

Actually, the latter is an Audience Reaction and should be flagged as such.

I wrote a lot of (if not all of) the Tropes Needing TRS entry quoted in the opening post, and I still stand by what I said about a lot of these reading like misplaced Administrivia pages. As for what to do with the specific pages, I'll need a bit more time to think about that since I just got out of bed.

Two that I'm already sure can be moved to Administrivia are Red Link and Blue Link, since as I've said several times in the past, those pages are already TV Tropes-specific instead of covering other wikis (such as Wikipedia, which also uses red links and blue links for the same purpose).

I think this thread might work better if we don't simply randomly comment on any item and if we set a threshold e.g 5 people agree on a given course of action and it's done.

Sorry if I came across as derailing with my previous post. The reason I brought those two pages up isn't specifically because of this thread, but because I've mentioned them in the Outdated Pages thread; I probably should have mentioned that I brought them up because discussion stalled out in that thread.

Anyway, to be more on-topic, I'll go through the A-D pages you linked to before:

• Acronym Trope Names: Might be worth keeping as-is, since we keep track of tropes with Alliterative Names. (Edit: Alliterative trope names were previously listed on a single page at Added Alliterative Appeal, but the page became too long, and after that Added Alliterative Appeal was converted from an index to a proper trope for alliterative phrasing.)
• All-Blue Entry: TRS already rewrote this one and moved it to Administrivia, as well as moving the old, less professional contents to SelfDemonstrating.All Blue Entry, so I think it's fine as-is. (Edit from May 11: I forgot to mention that I think think this should be removed from Wiki Tropes, since it's an Administrivia page. I mean that the page itself should be left alone.)
• Bluenose Bowdlerizer: Your idea of moving it to the TV Tropes Glossary would be fine, but I'd rather move it to Administrivia due to how often people edit with nannybots turned on.
• Blue Link: I'd rather move this one to Administrivia, but moving it to the Glossary would be fine as well.
• Blue Fever: I agree with your vote to merge into TV Tropes Glossary.
• Blue Shifting: Merge into TV Tropes Glossary. In addition, I don't see how this is particularly distinct from Blue Fever.
• Browser Narcotic: I think this would fit better in Forum Speak instead of being kept as-is. Most of the listed websites don't even seem to be wikis.
• Clueless Contributor: I agree with your vote to merge into TV Tropes Glossary.
• Complaining About Complaining: I agree with your vote to keep but remove from Wiki Tropes. I don't think it belonged on Wiki Tropes to begin with, considering how it can appear in pretty much any kind of work, plus it's already NRLEP.
• Conjunction Malfunction: Cut.
• The Database Hates Me: I agree with merging into Forum Speak.
• Data Vampires: I agree with merging into TV Tropes Glossary.
• Describe Topic Here: This seems more like it should be moved to Just for Fun since it's a TV Tropes in-joke, similarly to what we did with Egregious.
• Dr Pedia And Mr Trope: I previously said in the Outdated Pages thread that I think this belongs in Just for Fun, and I still think that.
• Drive-By Updater: I agree with merging into TV Tropes Glossary.

The Trope Namer of Browser Narcotic mentioned Cracked (back when it was good), which is not a wiki, as its second example after TV Tropes, so it's never been wiki-specific and shouldn't be on an index that implies that it is.

Agreed on Browser Narcotic. I honestly didn't intend to derail things either, but I otherwise agree with the assessments.

Wikipedia Syntaxer and Wikipedia Updater are written as Just for Fun despite them being on Main namescape

• Acronym Trope Names: I vote to keep in Main/ (although the page itself is currently phrased as a project instead of an index, we should start a short-term project on deciding which names need TRS and which can be kept as-is) and to remove from Wiki Tropes.
• Administrivia.All Blue Entry: Leave the page as-is, remove from Wiki Tropes.
• Bluenose Bowdlerizer: Move to the Administrivia/ namespace and from Wiki Tropes.
• Blue Link and Red Link: Complicated; Blue should go to the glossary, Red needs to be in Administrivia/ with a link from the glossary, and we should have Hyperlinks that is a Wiki or The Internet trope (hyperlinks tend to be underlined and in colour to distinguish them from normal text).
• Blue Fever: Either cut entirely or merged into the glossary.
• Blue Shifting: Either cut entirely or merged into the glossary.
• Browser Narcotic: Either cut entirely or merged into Forum Speak. Basically redundant to Wiki Walk.
• Clueless Contributor: Merge into the glossary.
• Complaining About Complaining: Keep in Main/, remove from Wiki Tropes.
• Conjunction Malfunction: Cut entirely.
• The Database Hates Me: Cut entirely; the page itself is already TV Tropes specific and it recommends TV Tropes Wiki Hates Me as the TV Tropes specific version.
• Data Vampires: I think the article should be rewritten to not be wiki-specific (this happens on forums and blogs, too), index under The Internet and Definition-Only Pages (Fanspeak), while removing from Wiki Tropes.
• Describe Topic Here: Move to JFF and remove from Wiki Tropes.
• Dr Pedia And Mr Trope: Move to JFF and remove from Wiki Tropes.
• Drive-By Updater: Merge into the glossary.

I think the suggestion to keep Data Vampires is missing the issue that it has no examples. And thus I still favour merging into Forum Speak, it works fine as a definition but not quite as its own page.

I think I agreed with GR on Browser Narcotic. Other than that, maybe it would be better to have Sandbox.Wiki Tropes and have concrete opinions there. Just to make it clearer what I think (because I understand just saying "I agree with the assessments wasn't really good):

• All-Blue Entry: Keep but remove from Wiki Tropes.
• Bluenose Bowdleriser: Move to Administrivia/ and remove from Wiki Tropes.
• Blue Link: Merge into TV Tropes Glossary.
• Blue Fever: Cut.
• Browser Narcotic: Merge into Forum Speak.
• Clueless Contributor: Merge into TV Tropes Glossary.
• Complaining About Complaining: Keep but remove from Wiki Tropes.
• Conjunction Malfunction: Maybe salvage yard the concept as a sister trope to Prepositions Are Not to End Sentences With, but cut for now.
