From Trivia. Its A Big Big World:
- Genre-Killer: After the end of this series and Between the Lions (both in 2010), PBS would not air another new series predominantly featuring puppets (discounting new episodes of Sesame Street) until Donkey Hodie in 2021.
Does "PBS puppet shows" count as a genre? And if not, should I remove this example?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallMy opinion, no to the first question. Yes to the second
My troper wallThere's also this on the same page:
- Creator Killer: Not that the show was bad by any means, but creator Mitchell Kriegman has not worked on any notable series since the end of It's a Big Big World, and has recently authored two novels, 2014's Being Audrey Hepburn and 2015's Things I Can't Explain, the latter being a reimagining of the title character of his previous series, Clarissa Explains It All.
It seems less like a killer and more like he decided to take a break. What do you think?

I agree that that can be cut per your reasons.

Avatar by Butterscotch Arts. Used under license.Question: would this thread benefit from a move to Long-Term? The X Killer tropes are still chronically misused, and I think this may be more of a Long-Term issue.
Move, or no?

TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallThis discussion should be moved to Long Term.
It would get much more attention there and because this issue won't be going away at all.
Kirby is awesome.Moved thread as requested
Macron's notesAbout E3, any words about how E3 is put on indefinite hiatus?

Avatar by Butterscotch Arts. Used under license.Alright, so Trend Killer just got launched. Should we expand this cleanup to cover that as well, since it's a "Killer" trope and could have similar problems? Or should we wait?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallThe scope of this thread should be expanded to include Trend Killer for sure.
Kirby is awesome. From Trivia. The Cat In The Hat:
- Creator Killer: The failure of this film ended Bo Welch's directorial career, although he still maintains a steady production designer career, as he later worked on Thor. He would eventually get a second chance at directing for the Netflix adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017). On the other hand, Alec Berg, David Mandel and Jeff Schaffer did not lose their careers from ruining this movie with its family-unfriendly humor and would later go on to write the more better-received Euro Trip.
I'm thinking the part regarding Alec Berg, David Mandel and Jeff Schaffer can be removed and the example should be trimmed down to this:
- Creator Killer: The film was a critical and commercial failure to the point where Bo Welch wouldn't direct another work until the Netflix adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017).
Thoughts?

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself. That part's just outright bashing. I'd say cut.
Alright, so this was already on Trivia.I Am Sam:
- Genre-Killer: Criticisms that this film played the "Hollywood" version of mental disability so straight that the unfortunate implications were finally starting to become obvious killed the Inspirationally Disadvantaged movie.
But now this just got added to Trend Killer:
- Prior to 2008's Tropic Thunder, a common film type for Oscar Bait was a prestige drama starring a character with mental disabilities played by a neurotypical actor affecting the mannerisms of the condition, using the mental transformation angle as proof of their skill. Tropic Thunder ruthlessly mocked this in an extended sequence where the actors explain it to be an obviously mercenary ploy for awards made by actors who don't actually care about the people they portray and show them as Inspirationally Disadvantaged to avoid making audiences uncomfortable. The subgenre was already on the decline by the film's release, but after Tropic Thunder's release, no such feature film would ever see nomination again, and what few films did feature mental dysfunction, such as Silver Linings Playbook, would have their actors avoid changing their mannerisms. The only major film since then to fit the old template is Music (2021), which was a critical and commercial bomb.
These two entries seem to be describing the same trend/genre. My question is: does this fit Trend Killer better, or Genre-Killer? And which of these two films is the real killer of the genre, assuming either of them are at all (which would mean cutting both)?

TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallTrend Killer fits better.
Speaking of trends, I'm pretty sure class-based fighting games were a thing on Roblox. However, after the exposure of one of its users (EpicCritical), pretty much every single one that wasn't based on an IP, such as Your Bizarre Adventure (based on JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) and Anime Battle Arena (fan Massive Multiplayer Crossover between multiple anime series) is pretty much now niche. Does it count?

MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesRemoved the entry on Trivia.I Am Sam.
I can't judge for whether or not the Roblox example counts as I do not play that game, however.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallSiegfried 1337, unless you can correlate between a developer's scandal and interest in the whole trend declining, it's not an example.
I do remember these type of games being popular with Roblox back when I was younger. The trend's launcher, Strife, was even reviewed by Roblox's official channel here, with Critical Strike popularizing it and serving as a baseline for other types of fighting games in Roblox. However, after the creator of Critical Strike was alleged to have committed sexual harassment, pretty much every game that looked similar to Strife disappeared from the popular category on the site. While Critical Strike was able to get back on its feet thanks to a new group of developers continuing it, they don't have as much popularity as it used to.

MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesAnother Trend Killer example I'm uneasy about:
- While Walk Hard didn't completely kill off the music biopic, it did pretty much kill off any reverence critics and audiences had for such films. Any music biopic released since had myriad comments by audiences comparing one or more of its scenes to a scene in Walk Hard and the days of such films being potential Oscar Bait are long gone.
The example is phrased so grandiosely that I think I can spot Fan Myopia in it.
I will agree that folks think the musician biopic is corny (we would not have Weird: The Al Yankovic Story without it) but the trend of making these movies certainly did not die, and neither did their critical reception: Bohemian Rhapsody, Respect, tick, tick... BOOM!, Rocketman, and Elvis (2022) were recent buzzy awards season frontrunners + we had biopics on NWA, Bowie, The Beach Boys, and more come out in the last decade.
