[up] The description of that trope does mention creators of children's media, so it's not out of the question. But again, it made the text too long in my opinion.

Also, I wanna point out that the Tumblr post you linked to doesn't actuallly say that people thought GOTF was an official Sonic comic because of Evan Stanley's status as creator of official Sonic comics. It just says that some people thought it was the new official Sonic comic book—it doesn't claim that it was Evan Stanley's name that made people think so. For all we know, people were just fooled by the high quality of the art.

So honestly, that part needs to go IMO simply because her status as official creator misleading people seems to be pure Speculative Troping.

EDIT: Also, nobody's asking you to hate yourself. Just don't edit war.

Is this going to turn into a dispute over whether the authorship makes a work a What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids? example?

Last I checked, nobody was questioning whether or not this work fits What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?. Clearly it does, because it's a relatively explicit work based on characters from an ostensibly family-friendly franchise.

The question is, is the fact that Ms. Stanley works on the official comic so important to this trope that it has to be included in the entry? Not really — the description of the content speaks for itself. Compared to that, Stanley's work on the official comic is little more than a curious aside. It can easily be cut without sacrificing understanding of the trope or how it applies to the work.

The fact that some people — not necessarily even children, just people — assumed that GOTF was the new Sonic comic isn't really relevant. People make uninformed, misinformed, incorrect, and even stupid assumptions all the time, even though Stanley herself pointed out the efforts she made to prevent those rumors from starting.

Also, thinking it's an official comic isn't the same as thinking it's for kids (though in practice, those two beliefs would probably overlap here). It's theoretically possible that people might have thought it was an official comic but not meant for kids.

This Screwed by the Network example on Chuckle Vision makes up 99% of the page.

     The example in question

  • Screwed by the Network: When Paul Chuckle was interviewed on Hayden Parker's Panto Podcast in 2019, he talked about he and Barry were never informed about the BBC's choice to cancel ChuckleVision:
"It wasn't good because, er, they never-never told us. Never told us, never said a word. They just took it off. It's, erm... So Lorraine Heggessey, she's, erm... she's the head of Children's, or she was, in the 90's. And she took us to The Ivy in London for lunch, and er, we chatted. "Lovely to-to see you again." and blah-blah blah and eating and... Lovely food there, The Ivy. And then she said, "Well, as for ChuckleVision," she said, "as far as I'm concerned, er, you can keep doing them year after year after year until you've had enough. And BBC will keep it going until you don't want to do it anymore." So we thought, "Oh, thank you, that's lovely." So we didn't have to worry about what we're doing next autumn. You know, next autumn, we filmed ChuckleVision each year. And I think we'd done about seven series by then, so she was... she was right what she was saying because after that, we did about another fifteen... episodes... series or whatever. So, erm, when it came to the end, we'd done Series 22, I think it was, and on the wrap party, erm, the, er, somebody came up to us and said, er, "It was an honour to do ChuckleVision, especially as it's the last series, you know, it was great to be on it." And we said, "What are you talking about 'last series'? It's not." "Oh, isn't it? Oh, I must have got it wrong. So I thought it was the last series?" We said, "No, it's not the last series, no. No, as far as we know anyway, nobody's told us." So, anyway, we took it with a pinch of salt. And then, erm, came the following year and we said, "Where's ChuckleVision? You know, you've not come in with the scripts or ideas and stuff." "Oh, erm, well we're not sure," she said, "we're not sure, er, whether to do another one yet." We said, "What are you talking about? It... It's still as popular as ever." She said, "Yeah, but the thing is, we put the repeats on and it gets as many viewers for the repeats as it gets for the real one, you know, for a new one, so it's cheaper to just put the repeats on." We said, "Yeah, but you can only do that so long and it's, as you just said, it's still getting the same viewing figures, you know, and because the repeats are getting just as good viewing figures means it's popular, so." But they wouldn't have it. There was a new, er, guy who was Head of, erm, Children's... can't even remember his name, he's an Irish guy, and, er, he just wouldn't have it. He said, "No, we've got enough in the can." Which I suppose, 292 episodes in the can was fine, but they only went for another year after that and they stopped the repeats. And their excuse for that was, erm, that they couldn't find everybody from the years back to pay them their... their-their royalties, because there was royalties in those days, which is a load of rubbish, because Equity will find them, they'll collect the money, and find the act, and pay them. So, just total excuses all the time, and to this day, they've not said why they took ChuckleVision off. It was so popular and they took it off. Not on anymore."

It got missed, but regarding the Captain America: Civil War Spiritual Successor entry, yeah it could definitely be trimmed. The fact that the directors specifically cited it as a reference means a lot of comparisons probably are legitimate and not just the result of Fan Myopia, but nevertheless it doesn't need to be that long. Just mention First Blood and the broad strokes of the similarities, because even if deliberate chances are it's not as much of a 1:1 matchup as the troper thinks.

[up][up] I saw that you re-added the part about profanity after I deleted it. Thing is, that constitutes your second Edit War within just four days, and after I already pointed it out the first time.

Yeah, I'm not a mod or anything, but still—while you're free to disagree with me about what belongs to the page, it'd be good if you followed the site rules.

Found this monster of a thing on YMMV.Among Us.

  • Hype Backlash: Subverted (or double subverted depending on your opinion on the memes) in a very strange way. As is expected for similar games with overzealous fanbases (such as Undertale, Minecraft, and Fortnite, although most of these have since recovered from the backlash) that dramatically rose to massive heights, the game and its fanbase received a good deal of backlash by December 2020, with the infamous "When the imposter is sus!" meme, featuring a leering Jerma985, being originally meant to mock the fanbase who used the game's lingo in real life (in a similar vein to "Sans Undertale" for the Undertale fanbase and "Is this a Jojo reference?" for the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fanbase). Unexpectedly however, perhaps due to the inherent hilarity in the image itself and the general decline of "cringe culture" (which often sustained previous communities entirely dedicated to mocking fanbases) by that point, the meme ended up taking a life of its own with fans and non-fans of Among Us alike, forming an entire meme subculture dedicated to simply finding absurdity in the game, leading to prolific memes such as Among Drip, "amogus", and the trend of seeing literally every object as a Crewmate. By February 2021, with Among Us's popularity on the decline (with Friday Night Funkin' taking its place as the talk of the town), the game's place in pop culture was essentially being sustained by the memes, which had grown to be even more popular than the game itself. With this has come another backlash against the memes themselves, with people claiming they're forced, unfunny, etc.

I'm too tired to even begin to parse this, so have fun y'all

Hello! I posted a few pages ago but it got missed

It's Popular, Now It Sucks! is very long (1435 words). I made a shorter version that preserves most of the same info (455 words)- Sandbox. Its Popular Now It Sucks. does anyone agree with shortening, or have anything to add to my shortened version?

From Troll Fic:

Cupcakes seems to have been written solely for shock value and lulz. Surprisingly, it's an aversion! The author, Sergeant Sprinkles, later stated that he wrote it on a whim just to see who would read it, and was surprised by how infamous it was (he admits that it's terrible, so the Troll Fic part may have been played straight after all; it's hard to tell). He has written several other decent, non-horrific stories. (None of which will ever be as successful as Cupcakes, of course.)

Should the last example on NightmareFuel.Ghosts Of The Future be trimmed, or can it stay the way it is? If it should be trimmed, keep all of the important components, including the fact most of the human women were poor and from developing countries (making them very vulnerable), Fantastic Racism, Internal Retcon and Treachery Cover Up, and the fact Sonic, most of his friends, and the Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) characters were implied Child by Rape. I really like all the emotion I put into that example and feel that shouldn't be sacrificed at all, because it's so reflective of what an average reader would feel and I feel that would disrespect victims of sexual abuse, due to paranoia.

Do we look at Complete Monster entries here?

YMMV.Superman Smashes The Klan

  • Complete Monster: Matt Riggs is the Grand Scorpion of the Klan of the Fiery Kross, leading the Metropolis chapter the group, who wants to "purify" America of all nonwhite people. When his nephew Chuck gets into a fight with a Chinese-American boy named Tommy Lee during a baseball game, Matt decides to induct Chuck into the Klan. Matt and his Klan followers go to Tommy's house, burn a cross on their yard and attempt to firebomb the house. After that fails, Matt Riggs kidnaps Tommy and plans to have him tarred and feathered. Later, Matt attempts to bomb the Unity House children's community center, feeling it is a threat to American purity, not caring how many people die in the process. After the Daily Planet offers a reward for the unmasking of any Klansmen, Matt and his followers attack the Daily Planet and kidnap Lois Lane, Perry White and Police Chief Henderson, with Matt Riggs planning to murder them all. After being captured by Superman, Matt Riggs escapes from prison, murders his boss, the Grand Mogul of the Klan, for not being a true believer in the cause, and steals his weapons to use against Superman. Matt attacks a baseball game to lure Superman out, and when Matt tries to murder Tommy Lee, Chuck attacks his uncle to stop him, leading Matt Riggs to try to kill Chuck as well. After Superman overloads his laser gun, Matt Riggs reveals he has a bomb under his cloak and he plans to blow up himself and take everyone in the baseball stadium with him.

Complete Monster entries are naturally very long due to them having to detail all of a character’s crimes, so I don’t think it’s a problem. Besides, the example was approved by the thread, so it’s not like we could do anything without their permission.
