Not Tropeworthy: Five Bad Band

I think cutting Five Bad Band is wrong. From what I’ve seen of the Psycho Rangers, it’s more of transplanting an Evil Twin version of the characters, with no defined roles. Five Bad Band, on the other hand, has clearly defined roles that differentiate it from the Psycho Rangers, who seem like an Evil Knockoff unrelated to the Five-Man Band.

^sidenote  This trope sounded weird to me at first, because teamwork sounded like more of a hero thing to me. While that's certainly true, there are many fictional villains that are exceptions. Doesn't mean this trope exists though.)

^{another sidenote}  The Chick is the Five-Man Band trope with the most controversial/contested/hard-to-tell definition over years of FMB-related debates. Is she The Heart, the Damsel in Distress, the most feminine member, or two or three of the above? We still don't know. And that's not even getting into the debates over the trope's gender restrictions. However, Dark Chick (as part of Five Bad Band specifically, as far as I know - there may be valid examples not part of an FBB) had it even worse. It decayed even farther into "the useless member" (I think from Damsel in Distress) then "weird member". When General Tagge was listed as the Dark Chick in the Five Bad Band for A New Hope because he's the only one who thinks the Death Star won't work..yeah. (I didn't realise I'd end up saying so much - my thoughts on Five-Man Band/Five Bad Band just sort of flowed onto the page).

I still think it’s wrong, since there’s still a niche for an Evil Counterpart to Five-Man Band that isn’t an Evil Knockoff like The Psycho Rangers, where each member has a defined role. From reading The Psycho Rangers page, none of the versions there show me how each one is an Evil Counterpart to the Five-Man Band.

Debate it with the people who noticed this trope seemed to not exist in the first place. I personally agree with them, but you may (or may not) be right.

I'm not sure what purpose a debate serves. The decision's been made— you can see the crowner below— and is being carried out.

Why? Because The Psycho Rangers doesn’t fit as the Evil Counterpart to a Five-Man Band due to the lack of definition of the roles in such a grouping; it seems more of an Evil Knockoff. Five Bad Band fit better because it had a better definition of how the members fit, which is not on The Psycho Rangers page. There is a niche for Five Bad Band. If The Psycho Rangers doesn’t work as an Evil Counterpart to the Five-Man Band, get rid of that too.

Agreed. The reason this thread hasn't been closed is because the remaining wicks still need to be removed.

Edit: Removed wicks from namespaces with smaller amounts of wicks. Need help with one page that's in Dutch and Headscratchers.Sly Cooper, because the latter has pretty much a whole thread dedicated to Five-Bad Band's usage on TV Tropes and I don't know how to handle it.

The Psycho Rangers isn't explicitly an Evil Counterpart to a Five-Man Band, they are the Evil Counterpart to a heroic example of The Team (the page should probably be changed to reflect that as it mentions Five-Man Band but that's besides the point). Plus we already pointed out why Five Bad Band doesn't work anyways in this thread.

The decision has been made and arguing about it won't change it.

Who are you responding to? papyru (who was paged to this thread by Lymantria) and I aren't arguing against the cut, and you already responded to a post that was arguing against it.

• Five-Man Band/Five Bad Band: They tend to fit more into the archetype of Five-Man Band considering that only Ocelot and Mantis could really sit comfortably in the "Evil" category, but considering that they are a Quirky Miniboss Squad...
  • Anti-Hero/Big Bad: Liquid - (whose former self may have been Ambiguously Evil, but who really ends up being a Well-Intentioned Extremist)
  • The Lancer/The Dragon: Ocelot - (who runs his own little Gambit Pileup just by being in the room)
  • The Smart Guy/The Evil Genius: Psycho Mantis - (somewhat maniacal killer who sometimes switches roles with Ocelot between The Dragon and Evil Genius)
  • The Big Guy/The Brute: Raven - (he has a gun he stole from an F16!)
  • The Chick/The Dark Chick: there are two candidates for this, Octopus (who tends to avoid conflict), and Wolf (the resident sniper who fits rather more definitively into the Dark Action Girl persona)

Can Villain Protagonists count as a Five-Man Band? I asked pertaining to Starcraft II Heart Of The Swarm and it looks like "no", but any thoughts?

Well, that violates two rules for How to Write an Example, regardless: 1. don't lists subtropes as sub-bullets under a supertrope header, and 2. don't add two tropes to one bullet point and separate them with a slash.

It might be better to just cut it. Even if problems I mentioned are fixed, Anti-Hero isn't a Five-Man Band-related trope.
