This page is a big mess, but the most glaringly obvious problem about this is that this is pretty much the same as Clothing Combat, with both basically boiling down to "weaponized outfit". Arsenal Attire itself states to be "sometimes a subtrope" to Clothing Combat, which confuses things further

One could possibly argue that Clothing Combat is when the clothing is used as Improvised Weapon, and that this trope comes into play when the clothing is used as a deliberately hidden regular weapons, but frankly, the description of either pages are very poorly written - Arsenal Attire is a bunch of Example as a Thesis, and Clothing Combat is basically a Laconic plus a list of Subtropes. And looking at the YKTTW archive, both tropes were launched with only 1 hat.

Clothing Combat honestly seems to be the worse page to me, because it barely bothers defining itself. Well, it says it's an Improvised Weapon, but Armed Legs, for example, is almost always deliberate.

Arsenal Attire seems to be about concealed weapons disguised as clothes. The description is... needlessly example-y, but it's pretty clear what it is.

To be frank, the description of Arsenal Attire sucks. And as for the distinction that Larkmarn mentions, I wonder how many examples actually comply with it.

My guess? Not many. Even if the definitions are distinct, the names are essentially synonyms.

what Larkmarn said @2. but how i read it, the inclusion of Armed Legs seems to be based on interpreting it solely (haha) as if it's about "foot/legwear used as weapons". seems to be a common problem on old tropes.

Arsenal Attire really is about equipment disguised as mundane clothing.

i'd be redundant if i go further, but i suggest keeping both and fixing them(or send em back to YKTTW) but rename Arsenal Attire to... something. weaponry or arsenal doesn't really cover armor AFAIC.

The description of Clothing Combat does link to Improvised Weapon as its Supertrope, but it's actually listed as a subtrope in Improbable Weapon User, and the examples seem to comply with the latter more.

As for weapons hidden in clothing, wouldn't that be covered by Nothing Up My Sleeve?

[up] it's pretty much a subtrope of "hiding weapons inside clothes". its sisters being Trouser Space and Victoria's Secret Compartment.

By the way, Arsenal Attire also mentions Clothes Make the Superman as a possible supertrope and Hat of Power as a subtrope. I'm not seeing the relevance of those two here, especially since Hat of Power seems to be more of a sister trope to Clothes Make the Superman rather than a subtrope, and this makes an unnecessary bridge between the two.

Sorry for the double post. So, to reiterate, the distinction between the two tropes would be:

Glove Slap and Shoe Slap, which is listed under Clothing Combat, is unrelated to either tropes since they aren't actually used as a real weapon, and the actual context is more similar to Dope Slap or Paper Fan of Doom.

This is probably better suited for the Trope Description Improvement Drive, but here's an attempted revision of Arsenal Attire:

Some people just don't carry weapons into their fights - not because they actually fight with bare hands, but because their weapons and armours have been incorporated in their normal attire.

The use of such clothing is not limited to the functions of Rule of Cool, but it also gives the wearer a pass in places where weapons are not normally allowed, since the weapons in question are all but invisible to casual observers.

This trope is a Sub-trope to Hidden Weapons, a Supertrope to Sword Cane and Combat Haircomb.

[up][up][up] That seems good enough to me, at least as a draft.

Yeah, unfortunately, my writing skills is rather substandard... the definition is not incorrect, is it?

One last clock; any objections to Adeptrogue's proposed condensing of the definition in 11?

Not enough consensus to make the change; locking up.
