YMMV / Noonbory and the Super 7

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo:
    • The main villain's name is Wangury. We suppose it's an interesting variation of A Dick in Name.
    • "It's not very nice to take other people's buns, is it?"
  • Americans Hate Tingle: Not necessarily hate, but it's clear that this series was much better received in its home country of South Korea than the Western world. PinkAru in particular is adored in South Korea, but loathed in Western countries.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Many fans are torn on Pongdybory. Some like him for his powers, others dislike him for his ugly design.
  • Creator's Pet: PinkAru takes up a lot of screen time in Tooba Tooba Noonbory, appearing in every episode and having a major role in almost all of them. She is loved in-universe, but generally disliked by the fanbase.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Totobory is the most well-loved of the Super Sensors. He's the easiest to find fanart of, and he's been praised for his powers and Woobieness.
    • Despite only appearing in one episode, the evil Noonbory clone is one of the most popular villains.
  • Fan Nickname: Or some variant thereof. Technically, the entire series is called Tooba Tooba Noonbory in South Korea, not just the second season, but Western fans usually refer to the first season as Noonbory and the Super 7 and the second as Tooba Tooba Noonbory for the sake of convenience. They're different enough due to a Genre Shift.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: Fans like to ignore the WildBrain prints because of the removal of scenes, the new outro, and especially the narrator.
  • Moe: The Super Sensors themselves are adorable chibi creatures.
  • More Popular Spin-Off: PinkAru actually came first, but Noonbory ended up being way more popular, especially in the Western world.
  • Narm: In "Coldygury and the Hot Lost Buns", the borys treat their breakfast going missing so seriously, it comes off as comical.
"This is an emergency! We've got to rescue our breakfast!"
  • Older Than They Think: Noonbory actually started as a stationary/merchandising mascot circa 2000; almost a decade before this series premiered. Not only that, but he was actually a spinoff from PinkAru (then called Baby Aru), and her appearing in the second season was likely a way to tie them back together.
  • Periphery Demographic: In recent years, the show has grown a small but dedicated fanbase mostly consisting of teenagers who either started watching for a joke or actually grew up with the series.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Korean fans of Miraculous Ladybug; yes, that is Lady WiFi's voice coming from Totobory.
  • Squick: In "Tooba-Achooba", none of the borys sneeze into their elbows, but special mention goes to Totobory and Lunabory sneezing into their hands. And if that wasn't bad enough, immediately after doing so, Totobory proceeds to put his hands on the buggy. You'd think a kid his age would know better...
  • The Scrappy: Virtually no fan likes the narrator due to him being overbearing and constantly restating the obvious.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • This is primarily why fans dislike WildBrain's reprints of the show. Fans disliked the removal of scenes, the new outro, and especially the narrator.
    • Western fans were also displeased about the Genre Shift from superheroes to slice-of-life in Tooba Tooba, as well as the introduction of PinkAru.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Totobory. He received the least amount of focus out of any Super Bory. In Season 1, there are a grand total of two episodes where he gets the spotlight, but even then, one is about him being Dozegury's Red Herring against his will, and the other just hammers it home that he's a Shrinking Violet. He was later Demoted to Extra in Season 2, which removed the requirement that every Super Sensor must appear in every episode, and only had three major focus episodes. Add it all up, and you're looking at five Totobory-focus episodes out of about seventy-eight.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: In "Rock and Roll Mamby", we're supposed to be on Noonbory's side when he chastises Mamby for showing off against the magic rock, when the only reason the magic rock was even active in the first place was because he was shirking his responsibility of watching over it.
  • The Woobie: Totobory, being the most timid and least focused-on Super Sensor of them all, could really use a hug.
