Goku: Wow, you're a fast little fellow. Caught me completely by surprise.
Sonic: Well, of course. Speed is my game.
Goku: Yet, I can tell you're not taking it serious.
Sonic: Of course not! Where's the fun in taking things seriously?
Goku: Well, sometimes you gotta stay on guard. Because you never know what your opponent has under their sleeve.

Sonic vs. Goku is a fan-made Webcomic drawn and written by KAD Productions (Twitter/X and Instagram). It's a crossover between Sonic the Hedgehog and Dragon Ball that features Sonic and Son Goku, the stars of their respective franchises, battling. The comic began on February 1, 2023 and is currently in its third chapter.

The story begins with Sonic and Goku having a friendly sparring match. As the former proves capable of combating the latter however, the fight escalates into an epic battle as they utilize more power-ups to even the odds against each other.

Chapter 1 can be read here and Chapter 2 here.

Sonic vs. Goku provides examples of:

  • Berserk Button: Sonic SNAPS when Goku tells him he's reached his limit once the latter turns Super Saiyan 2 and uses Ultra Instinct with the form to overwhelm his extreme speed. Unfortunately for Sonic, his further amplified speed does nothing to turn things around for him.
  • Blood from the Mouth: Sonic coughs out blood after being struck by Goku's one-inch punch.
  • Cherry Tapping: Defied by Super Sonic, who seemed like he was going to give Goku "One Merciful Kick" - the light tap kick he did in the opening of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) and the climax of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) - but he gives an Aside Glance and says "Yea... Not this time" before kicking Goku hard, paying him back for the one-inch punch.
  • Clothing Damage: Super Sonic kicks Super Saiyan 2 Goku so hard that he damages the back of his gi.
  • Continuity Cameo: Uub makes a cameo appearance in Chapter 3, flying to go see Piccolo but briefly stops when he senses Goku's ki in his battle against Sonic.
  • Continuity Porn: The comic has tons of references to both franchises, even fan-made works such as Studio B Animation's own Goku vs. Sonic sprite videonote  and Legend - A Dragon Ball Tale.note
  • Cool Versus Awesome: It's the Blue Blur taking on the Saiyan raised on Earth. What more can you get?
  • Crossover: A fan-made Webcomic between Dragon Ball and Sonic the Hedgehog.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Near the end of Chapter 2, Sonic is on the receiving end once Goku turns Super Saiyan 2 and combines it with Ultra Instinct to overwhelm his speed.
  • Death Glare: Goku gives an epic one to Sonic after the latter used the force of his kiai to land a kick to his face hard enough for him to draw blood. Sonic is perturbed to the point that he takes a step back.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: In Chapter 2, Sonic manages to land two serious blows to Super Saiyan Goku. Keep in mind, the world of Dragon Ball is set after Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Z as Goku is wearing his End of Z gi, has god ki, and his forms and abilities from Super, yet Sonic chooses to forgo turning Super Sonic by giving the fight to him and actually giving him trouble that Goku is forced to turn Super Saiyan 2 and use Ultra Instinct to be able to completely dominate him.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Goku didn't expect Sonic to actually harm him from behind with a Wind-Up Punch by using enough force of his speed and use his Kiai to spin rapidly enough to land a heavy kick to his face.
  • Foil: While Goku and Sonic share similarities, they also contrast each other. Goku is pure-hearted and always seeks to fight strong opponents. Sonic, while pure-hearted in his own way, is arrogant and seeks out adventures by living freely like the wind. Whereas Goku likes being active and the thrill of battle in addition to being focused when serious, Sonic is laid-back when it comes to fighting and does so when needed, even remaining overconfident when the situation gets dire but he can cease joking around when things get more urgent.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Goku is wearing his End of Z gi instead of his usual Turtle School uniform. Uub making a cameo by sensing Goku's ki and referring to Goku as "Master" reveals that the story is set after Super and Z.
    • After using Phantom Rush to beat down Goku, Sonic starts to leave, discussing to himself about figuring out a way to return somewhere before he gets interrupted by Goku getting back up. The last word Sonic was about to say was home, which hints that he isn't in his world but, rather, Goku's. Chapter 3 confirms this with Goku and Sonic taking their battle to East City and the abovementioned Uub's brief appearance. Word of God revealed that Sonic was accidentally sent to Goku's world by Dr. Eggman using a dimension ray.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Infuriated over Super Saiyan 2 Goku telling him he's reached his limit upon dominating him, Sonic's eyes glow with electricity as he increases his power to unprecedented level to (unsuccessfully) prove Goku wrong.
  • Golden Super Mode: Naturally.
    • Goku turns Super Saiyan at the end of Chapter 1 after Sonic overcomes him using Kaioken. This surprises Sonic as he checks to see if he still has the Chaos Emeralds on his person, only to see that he does and realize Goku accessed his form on his own.
    • In Chapter 2, Goku turns Super Saiyan 2 after Sonic manages to deliver two serious blows to him. He combines the form with Ultra Instinct to overwhelm Sonic's maximum speed.
    • At the end of the second above, Sonic turns into Super Sonic once he realizes he stands no chance against Super Saiyan 2 Goku and that he has three more forms.
    • In Chapter 3, Goku goes Super Saiyan 3 against Super Sonic.
  • Hypocrite: Sonic calls Goku this for wanting him to unleash more of his power to take their fight seriously while Goku has five Super Saiyan forms and a technique that allows his body to move on its own yet holds back. Goku justifies himself doing so by stating he didn't want to accidentally kill Sonic.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Of course, Goku makes use of his signature technique, the Kamehameha. His first attempt is avoided by Sonic kicking his hands just as he was about to fire it. He finally fires it in the third chapter but Sonic comes out unscathed due to being invulnerable in his Super form. Sonic is so intrigued by the technique that he asks Goku how he does it.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!:
    • After Sonic uses Phantom Rush to deal damage to him, Goku turns Super Saiyan at the end of Chapter 1.
Goku: Time to make things interesting.
    • All over Chapter 2:
      • Sonic increases his speed after Goku punches him hard enough to send him flying towards a boulder (though he does block it).
      • After Sonic deals a heavy kick to his face, Goku turns into Super Saiyan 2 and combines the form with Ultra Instinct to overcome Sonic's extreme speed.
Goku: (after transforming) I didn't expect you would push me this far, but it's time I take it up a notch!
      • Now knowing he stands no chance against Super Saiyan 2 Goku in his default state and being told he has three other forms, Sonic uses the Chaos Emeralds to turn into Super Sonic at the end of the chapter.
Sonic: Alright then. Since you have more forms, then I guess it's my turn to level up!
    • In Chapter 3, Goku proceeds to turn Super Saiyan 3 once Super Sonic turns the tables. Not wanting that to happen to him again upon Goku getting an opening on him, Sonic immediately increases his power.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Per usual, Sonic is invulnerable as Super Sonic, in which Goku punching him in the gut has no damage on him and he demonstrates his invulnerability by taking Goku's Kamehameha head on and coming out unscathed.
  • Offhand Backhand: Goku delivers one to Sonic after blocking several of his rapid speed attacks using Ultra Instinct.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Sonic is shaken by Goku's Death Glare that he takes one step backwards.
    • Sonic gets another one when Goku catches his punch and is about to hit him with a one-inch punch.
    • Once Sonic starts turning into Super Sonic, Goku senses the enemies Sonic has faced using the transformation, with the last of them, Solaris, causing him to both anxiously sweat and realize how incredibly powerful Sonic is in that state to have faced those threats.
    • Goku has one when Sonic uses Chaos Control to teleport immediately towards him after flying up to space to charge a Spin Dash at him. This is just as Goku attempts to fire another Kamehameha. Goku can only have a Curse Cut Short as Sonic hits him with Super Sonic Phoenix Comet.
  • Punch Catch: Goku catches an enraged Sonic's fist and proceeds to give him a one-inch punch. He does it again in the third chapter after he expended the ocean with a double kiai, though Sonic is impressed this time.
  • Punch Parry: Subverted. Sonic and Goku look like they're about to collide their punches but the former tricks the latter by retracting his right fist and connecting Goku with his left.
  • Punched Across the Room: Goku gives Sonic a one-inch punch after catching his fist, sending him crashing towards a tree and a boulder, making him cough blood in the process.
  • Revenge: Word of God posted on pages 9-10 of the third chapter that Sonic gives one to Goku for the one-inch punch in the second chapter by giving him a powerful kick.
  • Shoryuken: Sonic gives Goku an uppercut as they trade blows in the eighth page of Chapter 2.
  • Super Mode: While Goku and Sonic have their Golden Super Mode, the former uses Kaioken in Chapter 1 to get the latter to take their fight seriously.
  • Take That!: When Goku turns Super Saiyan 3, Sonic laughs at the form and asks if his next form is "some sort of Gorilla form?" As he says that, Super Saiyan 4 Goku can be seen in the background.
  • Troll: Unsurprisingly, Sonic. He laughs at how Goku's Super Saiyan 3 form grows his hair and removes his eyebrows, even calling him "Rapunzel".
  • Underestimating Badassery: Goku and Sonic underestimate what the other is capable of:
    • For Goku, despite turning Super Saiyan, he underestimated Sonic's tenacity, having the ability to sense him despite concealing his energy, and amplifying his speed to give him a tough fight and actually hurt him. Goku admits this is the reason he turned Super Saiyan 2 and use Ultra Instinct to take total advantage.
    • For Sonic, he thought that further increasing his speed would keep him with the edge against Goku even with the latter transforming again and using Ultra Instinct with it. He's totally wrong when Goku proceeds to dominate him.
    • Once Sonic turns Super Sonic, Goku tells the now super hedgehog not to underestimate him, only for Sonic to come up behind him and say Goku is the one who shouldn't be underestimating him and makes him eat his words about the form not being enough to make him transform again by turning the tables.
  • Versus Title: What do you think this comic is about?
  • Victory by Endurance: Goku intended on using this strategy to defeat Sonic. However, as Sonic finds ways to get the drop on him, Goku aborts the plan as he comments in his thoughts that he's the one who's running out of stamina.
  • Wham Shot: Two in Chapter 3. Goku and Sonic take their fight in East City and Uub briefly appears, flying and stopping to sense Goku's ki, revealing that not only is the story set in the world of Dragon Ball, but it's set after Super and Z.
  • Worthy Opponent: Goku and Sonic to each other. Goku is especially impressed by Sonic's tenacious abilities that he transforms into his Super Saiyan forms out of respect.
