WMG / Trigun Stampede

Go To

Milly will have Adaptational Curves.
Her original design is very tall and solidly built, but Stampede will take it up a notch by making her visibly muscular. The characters are being tweaked to suit the tastes of modern fans, and Amazonian Beauties tend to be very popular.

Vash's original bounty was posted by Knives.
It says he's wanted alive, and it would be very much consistent with Knives's methods to commit murders and steal Plants, but have Vash suffer the consequences, especially if it made it more likely he'd be able to locate his brother.
  • All but outright confirmed by Word of God. Staff members have explicitly drawn attention to the fact the bounty Vash has in the beginning is precisely the amount of money needed to buy a Plant, wanted Vash alive and that it was posted by July city, which is where Knives had his base. In contrast, Vash's new bounty which was posted by December city, says "Wanted Dead or Alive".

Vash will have gained a Urban Legend Love Life in season 2.
The Vash of Stampede lacks the Chivalrous Pervert trait of the original but this would be a fun homage to it. Season 1 covered how he went from an outlaw to the outlaw, and as the subject of gossip across the planet, people will have created stories about Vash breaking women's hearts everywhere he goes. This will especially lead to awkwardness with Meryl if she does get Promoted to Love Interest.

Roberto is Milly's estranged father.
The fact that Milly has apparently explicitly asked to work under Meryl signifies that Meryl knows things that Milly wants to know. Milly being related to Roberto would also give her automatic personal reasons for getting involved in the conflict with Knives.
  • Roberto and his wife split up when Milly was still quite young, his drinking problem being either the reason his marriage collapsed or the result. "Thompson" is the surname of Milly's stepfather, which would explain just why she has Massive Numbered Siblings: She comes from a blended family.
  • The first anime's running gag of Milly being a chronically incompetent employee can get a Cerebus Retcon that makes her unqualified for the job because she came to the broadcasting company to snoop, rather than plain ditziness.
  • Alternately, Thompson is a fake name Milly uses to sneak into the company, and not get laughed out the door for who her father is.
  • Roberto could be a different family relation to Milly altogether, like a Maternal Uncle, which would easily clear up any issues regarding surname. Either way the above still could easily apply.

Meryl and Wolfwood have stayed somewhat in contact after July.
When Meryl drops off the box of cigarettes at Roberto's memorial at July, there's an older, empty carton next to it. Wolfwood loved mooching cigarettes off of Roberto, so it might serve as a means for both of them to honor Roberto, and an indicator that each other was there recently.

Milly will be The Mole.
She was sent by the Eye of Michael, or some kind of offshoot, to get close to Meryl and find Vash. However, she will not be a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing, but a naive underling kept in the dark about her masters' intentions. This will serve as a Reconstruction of her 90's anime counterpart's ditziness; yes, Milly is a Wide-Eyed Idealist, but it's that belief in goodness prevailing that keeps her from being indoctrinated by the cult, and helps her recover once she learns how evil it really is.

Vash won't kill Legato, Wolfwood will.
Season 1 made it clear Stampede is playing cut and paste with established canon, leaving iconic events like Vash putting down Legato open for a new direction. This Wolfwood and Legato have great hatred for each other, and they serve the same role on opposite sides. A Lancer vs. Dragon battle seems to be the natural conclusion.

Meryl will be carrying Vash's child by the closing arc.
Besides the ultimate proof of peaceful Human/Plant coexistence, the birth of a hybrid would be the antithesis of Knives' master plan. Unlike his rape allegory bordering on actual rape, the child's conception would be portrayed as a loving and consensual union.

Knives' role in season 2.
In all likelihood, Knives did not die in the battle of July, since it was a very pointed plot point in all iterations of Trigun that Knives had apparently been decimated by a previous encounter with Vash that required him to recover. He will, however, have been left so wounded that he will still be in recovery after the time skip. It's the most ironic fate Knives can receive: His attempt to take away Vash's autonomy resulted in making him an invalid, needing the care of his human followers to stay alive.
  • Specifically it'll be Legato doing the hard work with all his characteristic devotion. Knives will not be grateful in the least, still obsessing over Vash, and Legato's grudge against his master's brother will only grow.

Post season 1, Wolfwood will indulge in Bad Habits.
Between looking for Vash and taking the fight to the Eye of Michael, Wolfwood will need to travel incognito. A preacher disguise helps explain the Punisher, and unbuttoning a high collar to join in a shoot out is also a way to the infamous half open shirt.

Milly will directly oppose Elendira.
Each member of Vash's little group is set up to have a direct counterpart in Knives's gang. Vash obviously has Knives, Wolfwood has Legato, and Meryl has Zazie (even if that one's less antagonistic than the others). Milly, a cheerful and kind-hearted woman wielding an immobilising weapon and the youngest of her huge family, will be counterpart to Elendira, a cruel and nihilistic woman who runs people through with her giant nail gun and the youngest of her huge Plant family — a father, an uncle, and thousands of aunts. Milly might even bear a grudge for Roberto's death, if he really was related to her.
  • Also, Milly could be implied to be transgender as a heroic foil to Elendira's villainy.

Meryl's articles will bring back Vash's memories.
Meryl will spend the timeskip publishing stories that portray Vash the Stampede sympathetically, even at the risk of becoming a laughingstock. Eriks will be drawn to accounts under her name, and eventually recognize he's reading his own past.

Legato will be Driven to Suicide.
After being snubbed all season, Legato will question if Knives is really worthy of his loyalty and, horrified by this doubt, kill himself. Overkill will likely be involved, like dropping a building on himself with telekinesis. This would haunt Vash as much as if he had to kill Legato, as he equates "not saving" with "murdering", and hold up a mirror to his relationship with Wolfwood: Vash's faith in Wolfwood empowered him, Knives' lack of faith in Legato broke him.

Milly will get a Traumatic Haircut.
Between the first manga and Trigun: Maximum, Milly's hair goes from long to shoulder length. Stampede will reference this by Milly losing a chunk of her hair in a battle.

Vash's prosthetic arms will get more lifelike over time.
The first was skeletal, so the next will look like exposed muscle, and the third will be the most passable as a flesh and blood arm.

Wolfwood's Psychopomp.
In Wolfwood's death scene, he will reunite with Roberto's spirit who will guide him to the afterlife. Alternatively, if Wolfwood is Spared by the Adaptation, Roberto will tell him it's not yet his time and send him back to the living world.

The secret to beating Razlo.
What Wolfwood said about Livio hiding under the covers as a kid wasn't just reminiscing, it foreshadows how he and Vash can stop his psychopathic alter ego Razlo from rampaging. Being covered with a blanket makes Livio feel safe enough that it calms Razlo back into dormancy.

Midvalley the Hornfreak will be a Villain with Good Publicity.
A newspaper in season 1 mentions Midvalley being on tour. He's a popular singer/musician who secretly serves Legato as an assassin. When Vash has to fight Midvalley, his fans' outcry will be one more thing the Humanoid Typhoon is unfairly demonized for.

Knives can heal Plants.
He has the ability but it takes empathy and openness to use, which he's too self-centred to do.

Leonof will be a defector from Ship Three.
His manga backstory as a child Vash knew who turned to evil has been given to Monev, plus it makes more sense for a remnant of the spacefaring age to have the super tech that animates the puppets. Instead of being driven mad by his lover's death and keeping her preserved body in a coffin, Leonof's lover was in prolonged cold sleep while Leonof grew old. Despairing this growing age gap, Leonof grew to resent Vash's eternal youth, and tried to replicate it with lifelike puppets.

The dub will give Leonof a Russian accent.
In the manga and first anime, Leonof has an odd way of speaking that involves Accent Upon The Wrong Syllable, and his name is a form of the Russian surname "Leonov". This is especially possible if the above theory that Leonof is from the generation of Earth immigrants is true.

Midvalley will play both sides.
In the manga, Midvalley wanted to betray the Gung-ho Guns, knowing their only retirement plan was in the grave. If Stampede keeps this motivation, the Hornfreak will offer to sell the Eye of Michael's secrets to Vash in return for help escaping Legato.

Wolfwood will become a Human/Plant hybrid.
The miracle serum used by Conrad's creations is implied to be made from Plant cells, if not from Knives himself. Thanks to Wolfwood's rare aptitude for it, continued use of the serum will eventually mutate his body and give him some Plant-like abilities. This could lead to his death when he uses a Dangerous Forbidden Technique.

Rem didn't enter the twins into the ship's files alongside Tesla's.
It was Dr. Conrad; he recognises Nai from before the Fall and seems glad he survived. Just like in the manga, Conrad must have woken up before he was supposed to and met the twins as children. He learned Vash seemed to have no powers as a Plant. And while he regrets his previous actions terribly... there's so much still to learn, and what better purpose could a powerless Independent serve than one that still aids humanity?

Gray the Ninelives has only one pilot.
Stampede is doing well at expanding on the backstories of characters who originally had none. It is easier to tell only one person's story than it is to tell a whole group's.
  • Rather than a hint to its number of pilots, the "Ninelives" title comes from nine forms layered in the mecha like nesting dolls. Forms one-through-eight are for different combat styles, but the final form at the core is Gray the man.

Milly will be given a full first name.
To remedy the fact she's the only main character who is Only Known by Their Nickname.

Vash's Despair Event Horizon will be from almost murdering Knives.
This would replace Legato's execution and the aftermath. When Knives outdoes himself in disregard for life, Vash will snap and try to kill his brother. He backs off just as quickly, of course, but this leaves the twins horribly shaken. Vash is disgusted with himself not only for how close he came to betraying Rem's values, but for wanting to kill someone.

The Plants from Earth will include Canon Foreigners.
Lieutenant Chronica's Bible counterpart is most likely the Archangel Michael. Add one or two new characters to her squad, plus the preexisting Domina, and there will be counterparts for Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel.

Vash and Knives' gender will be given significance.
In the entire franchise, the twins are the only known male Plants, Independent or otherwise. A Plant researcher, possibly one with the Earth Federation, will explain why male Plants are virtually unheard of and what their specific function is.

Chuck Lee will be turned into Hoppered the Gauntlet.
Hoppered is motivated to kill Vash as a survivor of the July incident. Why introduce a new face when there's already a July-based antagonist? The loss of the city would weigh heavily on a military police captain charged with protecting it, and it's foreseeable that one portrayed as unhinged to begin with who failed to catch Vash twice would go to extreme lengths like body augmentations for revenge. Alternatively, Hoppered will be the faceless officer who shot Vash.

Hoppered's backstory will be given to Gray.
Related to the above theory that Chuck Lee will be Hoppered; The basis of Hoppered's manga origin as a freak ostracized by society save for his Living Emotional Crutch is easy to transfer to Gray. Just that he is a little person rather than horribly deformed.

Just like in the manga, Vash is the more powerful of the twins.
Hence why Knives resorts to emotional abuse, convincing Vash that he's weaker. Knives doesn't have the raw strength to overcome his will any other way. On top of that, despite what Conrad and Knives believe, Vash is closer to being the "perfect" Plant both in abilities and psychology, which is why he's capable of healing the dependent Plants and instinctively knew their song. His powers developed after Nai's did because they're so much greater than Nai's. If Knives attempts to meld with Vash in future, it will be motivated by yearning for that connection, and failure will drive him to even more drastic measures.

Dominique the Cyclops will be an Adaptational Badass.
As it is for most of the Gung-ho Guns in Stampede. One possible upgrade is for her Demon's Eye to work across a longer distance and act as the resident sniper, which the Gung-ho Guns lack aside from the anime original Caine the Longshot.

Wolfwood will perform burial rites in the future.
To contrast with the ones for Zazie's pretend parents he fumbled, and show he's come to give a damn about other people's lives. It won't be eloquent or recited from the bible, but it will be sincere.

Wolfwood will take Vash's coat for himself post-timeskip.
To justify Vash getting a new one that looks more like his manga coats. As well as a Tragic Keepsake, the new black-purple color fits Wolfwood's aesthetics.

Legato's last stand and the Fifth Moon incident will be merged.
Not counting the aftereffects that were merged with the July incident, of course. Legato's telekinetic powers at their strongest would level the city of Augusta, and an emotionally drained Vash would not be able to hold back his Angel Arm this time.

Legato has Plant body parts grafted on.
Legato of Stampede's power is outright stated to work differently from how the manga did it. Controlling people and things with hand movements could imply his arm has been replaced with a gravity Plant's, but with past Legato's hatred of humans and adoration for Knives he may not have stopped at one arm. Exchanging limbs and organs for those harvested from Plants' to the point of being stitched up like Frankenstein's Monster further makes him a foil to Vash, whose place in Knives' heart Legato wants to take.

Zazie will get a new look.
The passing of TARAKO means Zazie needs a new VA, which is the perfect opportunity give them a fresh body like their many hosts from the manga.

Milly will pull a Younger Than They Look.
She will be around 18-19 years old, shocking for a girl so big and bulky. She's pretty much the opposite of Roberto so it will be especially ironic if Milly is too young to drink yet.
