    Episode 1: Noman's Land
  • After the dramatic prologue sequence, it is somehow hilarious yet fitting that the very first voice you hear in the Japanese voice track is Masaya Onosaka, who was Vash's original Japanese voice actor in the 1998 anime. In Stampede he's cast as the news radio DJ, now ironically broadcasting to the world to be on the lookout for "Dangerous Wanted Fugitive Vash the Stampede".
  • Meryl is arguing with Roberto in the car, with him refusing to acknowledge her as anything but "newbie". When she shows him her ID (by slapping it directly over his face), he simply takes it and uses it as tissue, which greatly annoys her.
    • As they continue to argue, Meryl claims she'll work her way up the ranks and be running July in no time.
Roberto: Then can I get a raise, boss?
      Meryl: I'm being serious!
      Roberto: So am I.
    • Then the car comes to a dead stop, with Meryl belatedly realizing she forgot to recharge its battery.
  • Roberto takes revenge for Meryl covering his face with her CV by throwing a magazine over Meryl's face and nearly knocking her out of frame.
  • Vash's caricature as the "Humanoid Typhoon". Even Meryl laughs at how cartoonish it looks and says no human could really look like that.
  • Vash's introduction. He's been hung up by one of the gangs and his arm comes off when Meryl hesitatingly grabs it. In the dub, he jokingly asks, "Need a hand?" Before she grabs his hand, Vash even makes a brief peace sign as a greeting.
    • Then as bugs fly past, Vash slowly spins around letting out a dark, maniacal laugh. Agreeing that he's a bit creepy, Roberto and Meryl both begin to walk away from him. Vash then drops the act and desperately pleads for them to cut him loose. In the English dub he says "Don't leave me hangin', friends!"
  • Meryl tying up Vash with some rope, saying she would only turn him in after getting her scoop. When Vash informs her they can rest at a diner nearby, she starts dragging the poor man across the sand as he thrashes around like a fish out of water. When he proves later he could have slipped out at any time it gets even funnier — he went with it just for fun.
    • When Vash compliments Meryl for her integrity trying to clear his name, Meryl is so flattered she drops the rope without realising it.
  • Rosa asks if Meryl and Roberto were friends of Vash, with Vash assuring her they were. She points out him being tied up and Vash easily slips off the ropes like they were nothing. This startles Meryl and Roberto and Rosa merely sighs.
  • While it's needlessly cruel for the July military police to beat Vash up when he has shown no hostility towards them, the way Vash flops on the ground and kicks his legs with each blow is certainly funny. He makes noises like a squeaky toy.
  • After deciding to have Chuck Lee and Vash duel it out, the captain and Roberto start manically giggling at each other. Then it cuts to the other policemen putting bets on who'd win, with Vash getting about five thousand towards him and Chuck Lee getting ten thousand.
  • Meryl looks up with worry towards Vash who goofily cheers towards the town and poses. A close up on his face however shows him sighing in resignation and really not wanting to go through with the duel.
  • Vash tries to convince the captain to stop the duel by pointing out how dumb the situation is. The captain agrees and tosses his gun away... to reveal a missile launcher he somehow carried on his back.
Chuck Lee: (cackling) Fight me, Humanoid Typhoon!
    Vash: Aaaand he's crazy.
  • Vash prepares to shoot down the missiles above the town... only to find out he neither has bullets in his gun, nor in his pockets. He even checks under the soles of his shoes.
    • In the dub as he panics he tries to reassure himself that he's fine and he's super cool.
    • This leads to him tearfully shrieking to the townsfolk for a bullet while all of them ignore him and run for cover. As he screams, you can even see snot coming out of his nose.
  • In the dub as he runs for the bullet Meryl tossed him and was shot away, he can be heard saying, "Come to daddy!"
  • Vash tries to brush off his skills as pure dumb luck and wonders aloud if he should try and hit the casino. The look of utter disbelief Meryl gives him at his obvious lie is hilarious.

    Episode 2: The Running Man
  • In a mild case of Mood Whiplash, the cold opening is Vash listening to a man on the radio complain about the people's bad luck living on such a horrible planet. After he rants, he then calls for the song to play, and cut to the opening song.
  • Meryl and Roberto had apparently been doing their interview with Vash. Only they don't believe the story he gave them about a supposed "evil twin" being the one actually stealing the plants, not him. He tries to put on a sad puppy dog face, with Meryl telling him crying won't work. So he slumps his head onto the table in defeat.
  • The title for the episode "Running Man" appearing and then quickly cutting to Vash running like mad from the hailing gunfire.
  • The entire town of Jeneora Rock is out for Vash. This causes him to run around in a very wild manner, screaming and flipping around as he dodges bullets. The screams Johnny Yong Bosch performs during that entire scene makes Vash's antics even more hilarious.
  • Meryl throws a noose for Vash to grab, and Roberto pulls a lever to basically toss Vash up in the air. Vash is crying and whimpering as he's pulled up and barely avoiding the gunfire. The two reporters try to quickly crawl away only for Vash to land on top of them after being launched into the air.
Roberto: What the hell is going on here?
    Meryl: Get off.
Vash: (groaning) If you figure it out, let me know.
  • Nebraska throughout the entire episode complains about Gosef hitting his head and yelling about how he doesn't want his son becoming stupider.
  • Nebraska is looking at Vash's wanted poster, describing Vash with a "dumb slack jawed look" and claiming they'll snatch up their bounty in no time. Cut to Vash looking at his wanted poster.
Vash: (groaning) Why did they have to use this photo?
    Roberto: That's your issue?
    • It's more or less confirmed Knives posted that bounty, by the way. It would be a very sibling move to choose a wanted photo specifically because it's one you know your brother hates...
  • In the English dub, Roberto tells Meryl, "This is why we don't save lost puppies." Then to underline his point, he addresses Vash thus: "Hey, puppy..."
  • Meryl asks why he doesn't stock up on more bullets, with Vash claiming he could buy two slices of pizza (or in the dub, two dozen donuts) for the price of one bullet.
  • The driver they're holding hostage tells Nebraska he promised to let him go once he drove them far enough. Having enough of the man, Nebraska tells Gofsef to shut him up. Gofsef's hand punches the driver out the window, and Nebraska apparently realized at that moment neither of them really knew how to drive the car.
Nebraska: You imbecile! Now who's gonna drive this death trap?!
  • In the dub as Vash makes his escape to draw the Nebraska family away from the town, Nebraska yells, "Money! Come back!"
  • Similarly, while chasing Vash in truck, in the dub Father Nebraska yells "I hope you like pancakes, because you're going to become one!"
  • Vash's reaction to Gofsef's hand destroying a nearby rock? "Felt the fury right there!"
  • Vash's line "Sorry! Not a fan of, y'know, pain?"
    • Nebraska then screeches if Vash had any pride as a gunman.
      Vash: Mmm, yeah, no.
  • Meryl follows Vash and Nebraska and as she turns sharply, Roberto's attempting to drink out of his canteen and has to hold his drink up so he doesn't spill.
  • The Nebraska's car isn't very suited for the rocky terrain and Gosef keeps hitting his head because of it.
Nebraska: He's using rocks, our worst enemy! My son is brain-dead enough, you bastard!
  • While dodging Gofsef's grapple-hand, Vash performs a beautiful pirouette. Even Gofsef seems pissed off about it.
Nebraska: Lovely, but this ain't the ballet!
  • Meryl who had been complaining about Roberto drinking on the job, gets absolutely smashed after likely less than half of her drink.

Episode 3: Bright Light, Shine Through the Darkness
  • In the dub, Roberto explains the origin of E.G.'s name being because he finds killing easy, and then editorialises that it would have been "E.Z.", but he "had to add his stupid autograph."
    • E.G. the Mine getting angry when Roberto continues to call him E.G. Bomber. Meryl manages to successfully blind him with the camera flash.
  • Vash jumping onto E.G. the Mine's vehicle, and being bucked around like he's at a rodeo.
  • The fact that there's a red button on the back of E.G. the Mine to turn off all the bombs.
  • Everyone pauses at hearing the sound of a piano. In that moment, E.G. the Mine knocks over Roberto, who was tying his hands, and flees. Just as Vash orders everyone to get out of town, Roberto responds with an "aye-aye" and jogs off, noticeably holding his backside. The old guy can't catch a break.

    Episode 4: Hungry!
  • Some sand people enjoying the bug they're currently roasting watch as a mysterious figure walks through the desert. They comment on his dark suit and large cross on his back before joking he's a well-prepared dead guy.
  • As a swarm of bugs fly through the air, Roberto casually explains to Meryl how those bugs are a source of protein out in the desert. Meryl looks like she's trying not to throw up the entire conversation.
  • The group come across Wolfwood in the middle of the desert with him walking right into the car's path. Roberto attempts to grab the wheel and steer them away from hitting him. However, this leads to the car doing a wide sweep and knocking Wolfwood out anyway.
    • When they check on him, he's unconscious, and when Vash is looking after him, he's flopping around in the back like a corpse and drooling.
    • They were completely surrounded by empty sand for miles in every direction and they still managed to hit Wolfwood.
  • The same Worm Hunters at the start of the episode appear again, watching Meryl driving insanely across the dunes from afar.
  • Due to the hard swerve, the next scene of Vash in the back has his feet sticking up and twitching in the air.
  • The group find two people dead at the Plant station with Roberto commenting that their "roadkill" had nothing on these people.
  • Wolfwood "performing" burial rites for the two people they found, and it becomes clear after the first verse he has no idea what he's doing. Vash and Meryl give each other increasingly flabbergasted looks as Wolfwood keeps fumbling, until Meryl finally asks him whether or not he's really a priest.
    • As he attempts to continue his prayer, his cross begins to fall over, leading him to scramble to keep it upright.
    • He has a soda bottle of water that he alternates drinking from and vaguely splashing around. And when he drops it in favor of stopping his cross from toppling over, it spins in the air and lands bottom down.
  • Wolfwood hands Vash the bill, and the price is so high it causes Vash to freeze up and slowly showing the price to Meryl. The total bill comes up to $$20,000. Meryl immediately calls Wolfwood a rip-off since they didn't ask him to perform the burial services, and they promptly start to squabble like kids.
  • The small group of sand people watching Vash and Wolfwood, telling them to get away from the whale, only to watch them willingly get swallowed up again.
Worm Hunter: Don't you wanna live?!
    • After Wolfwood unleashes a beam of energy that slices through the whale and kills it, the sand people are gratefully clapping their hands. They scored big for dinner that night.
  • The moment when Wolfwood takes out his Punisher cross, spins it around onto his back and then reveals that the strongest weapon installed in it is a giant laser beam is so ridiculously over-the-top awesome that it crosses back into hilarious territory, particularly knowing that Stampede has often been trying to adhere to believable fighting styles and weaponry. It is the definition of something made solely for the Rule of Cool. And in hindsight, Wolfwood almost certainly planned to give himself an opportunity to show it off like a dork.
  • Wolfwood teasing Meryl by shoving the insect meat into her face, while she attempts to scramble away and keep her mouth shut. If you listen in on the argument Wolfwood starts making fun of Meryl for being short while she protests that she's of a perfectly normal height.
  • Roberto talking to Vash like he's a naïve kid who clearly needs some advice about stranger danger is Hilarious in Hindsight when you realize Vash is at least twice as old as Roberto.
  • Wolfwood giving Vash his nickname "Needle-Noggin" with Vash looking confused at how he even came up with that name.
  • Deciding he'd like to join the group, Wolfwood immediately makes himself at home by snagging one of Roberto's cigarettes. The older man tries to admonish Wolfwood and Meryl begins to scold them both.

    Episode 5: Child of Blessing
  • In another funny casting moment for the Japanese dub, the religious radio host preaching about the teachings of the Eye of Michael is Show Hayami, the original voice of Wolfwood. Looks like the guy's actually taking his job seriously this time around.
  • Meryl complains about the heat, so Roberto tells her a spooky story, and then asks if that was sufficiently chilling. The evil little cackle he does afterwards sells it.
  • For almost the second time in the story, Meryl nearly runs into something, but this time manages to stop the car before actually hitting it.
  • Vash and Wolfwood sliding out from the corner as a large hulking man crashes through the buildings after them. The fact that he completely ignores Meryl and Roberto makes the scene pretty funny as the two stare on in shock.
  • Though the explanation is very sad, there's just something wonderfully Vash about Vash sprinting up and asking the unconscious man who was trying to kill him with gatling guns five seconds ago whether he's okay.
  • As the two catch their breaths, Wolfwood chides Vash for going back to check on their enemy. Vash says it would have been bad had he accidentally ended the poor guy.
Wolfwood: Funny. I was hoping he would have ended you.

Episode 6: Once Upon a Time in Hopeland
  • In the dub, Meryl tries to break the ice between Wolfwood and Vash by jokingly asking if one of them stole the other's lunch money.
  • Vash parts with Meryl and Roberto with no hard feelings. Wolfwood is surprised at how easily Vash detached himself from the reporters.
    Wolfwood: Weren't you guys close?
    Vash: Yeah, not really.
Wolfwood: Stone cold, Needle-Noggin. Stone cold.
  • Wolfwood claiming he's sticking around Vash because he's "babysitting".
  • To make Livio stop crying Wolfwood runs off what looks like a cliff, only for him to hold himself at the edge and then flip himself back into view. He even cheekily sticks out his tongue as he's hanging upside down.
  • Wolfwood apparently smoked even as a kid. In a flashback, after he takes a puff of a small piece of tobacco, he hands it to Livio who coughs it up. Their caretaker finds them and begins to scold them, leading the two kids to run off laughing.
  • Legato punishes Wolfwood for acting up. But he also seems a bit annoyed when Wolfwood calls him a "blue-haired freak", leading him to use his powers to crush him into the floor. Sensitive subject?
Legato: Don't talk about my hair.
  • Meryl flooring it through the desert to catch up to the Sand Steamer, with Roberto holding on for dear life. He continues to complain to Meryl who only replies with a "Yes, sir!"

    Episode 7: Wolfwood
  • Meryl apparently lied to the bandits by claiming she was a photographer for an outlaw magazine. The bandits yell at her to use only the good photos with her barely keeping it together as she agrees.
    • The multiple poses the outlaws do range from a familiar force pose to them making hearts with their fingers. If you look close, one's making the heart with the fingers of a random dead guy.
    • Roberto's whole attitude as Meryl turns to him for help/some hint of reason in this madness.
      Meryl: (in tears) Help meeeeeee.
Roberto: (shrugging) I'm just a reporter, Newbie.
    • When Vash rescues them, she won't admit they're still there because she doesn't want to leave Vash.
  • Vash makes his way below deck by apparently beating up any of the outlaws that came near him. Each one he hits bounces comically up into the air or into the side of the ship's walls.
  • The English dub's excellent choice to translate one of the bandits calling another "baka" as "crotch-knuckle", and have another start screaming "Give 'em the ol' razzle-dazzle!"
  • Legato complains about how hard his job is because he's having trouble blowing up an orphanage, with a certain amount of Milking the Giant Cow but without even the slightest hint of self-awareness or irony. Seriously, Legato?
  • Also in the English dub, Roberto can be heard grumbling, "I'm too old for this crap..." as he runs after Vash to the control room.
  • It's amusing to watch Wolfwood angrily spit out "I'm Nicholas the Punisher!" in rejection of Vash calling him by his name and seeing him in a good light, only for the title card displaying #07 Wolfwood, to pop up a second later.
  • Wolfwood fiercely declares they're going to stop the cannon and the vehicle from destroying the orphanage. Meryl asks him how and Wolfwood, with exactly the same attitude, declares he has no idea. But they'll do it with guts and grit.
  • The ridiculous baffled noise Roberto makes when Vash says they can re-aim the cannon manually.
  • Vash takes control of the cranes on the ship and tosses them backwards to act as an anchor. Wolfwood, as he watches this, has to dodge one of the cranes passing by his head, and he yells at Vash to watch what he's doing.
    Wolfwood: Watch it, blondie!
  • Legato and Zazie see the large sandstorm approaching the Steamer and Legato asks if Zazie was the one who created it. Zazie's voice sounds absolutely dumbfounded at how Legato thinks they have this capability. They then ask if they can go home now, as if punching out on the clock.
    • There's a similar moment where Zazie's Worm-eye gets shot, which makes them whine in disappointment, and Legato snaps to just make a new one. Zazie refuses to take Legato seriously and performs a kind of bodily eye-roll in response. Knives has some interesting hiring practices.

    Episode 8: Our Home
  • Rem is taking a video of the twins to celebrate their one year birthday and prepared a meal for them. The twins tell Rem she forgot to record, which leads her to turn the camera to herself to check. Realizing she's been pranked, she turns the camera back onto the twins, who are laughing at her falling for their joke.
  • In the dub, when confronting Vash on his identity, Brad calls him a "little shit".
  • As the two journey to the next ship settlement, Brad offers Vash some water from his canteen. Vash notes how kind Brad actually is, and he threatens to hit Vash. Vash laughs and quickly makes his toma move ahead.

    Episode 9: Millions Knives
  • The Wait, What? expressions on Meryl and Roberto's faces when Luida and Brad tell the group they've known Vash for 150 years.
  • Meryl is so excited to see actual plants she runs around and yells for Roberto to come over to look at the flowers. She gets so caught up in her own excitement she falls over on her face.
    Roberto: Noob down.
  • This being the first time Roberto refers to Meryl by her name, she's so ecstatic she makes a beeline towards him to confirm it. They start arguing "Did not!" "Did too!" style while Luida looks bemused. After they're kidnapped by Zazie, Roberto falls back to calling Meryl "newbie", which she accepts with disappointment.
  • Roberto goes on a whole speech to Luida and pulls out a cigarette for him to smoke. Just as he takes a drag, Luida informs him that there's no smoking allowed on the ship, which he immediately chokes on. Again, after they're kidnapped by Zazie and find themselves in some unidentified place, Roberto makes a joke that he can probably have his smoke there.
  • Wolfwood clearly not used to riding a toma as he flails about and barely holding onto his cross in the process.

    Episode 10: Humanity
  • To continue off where the last episode left, Wolfwood is still struggling to stay on his toma as he wildly thrashes around.
  • In the English dub, Roberto is deeply unimpressed by Knives's dramatics and refers to him as "Hundreds Spoons" while talking with Zazie. No one reacts, which makes it even better.
  • Vash accidentally alerting the police to his presence by sneezing (in Japanese Vash's sneeze is incredibly loud) and coming face-to-face with Chuck Lee, the police captain from Episode 1. Their shared look of Oh, Crap! is priceless. Wolfwood even hits Vash over the head, calling him a dipshit in the dub and shouting noticeably more loudly than the sneeze itself.
  • After Vash is shot, the captain stutters as he says he didn't tell his men to shoot.
Wolfwood: Put a sock in it, asshole!
    Chuck Lee: Okay!
  • Roberto takes a couple shots at Elendira's nails and is quite surprised that it actually worked in stopping them.
  • The sobbing mess Meryl becomes as she and Roberto are running away from Elendira. All she can do is scream "I'm sorry!" as Roberto yells at her about worker's compensation.
  • After making his entrance from the elevator, Wolfwood gives Elendira a cheeky wave.
  • Wolfwood and Elendira bickering like bratty siblings, topped off with Wolfwood bonking her over the head with the tip of the Punisher. He actually quirks his eyebrow up in amusement when Elendira yells that she hates him.
    Wolfwood: That's pathetic, you dummy.
    Elendira: I hate you!
Wolfwood: Well, the feeling's mutual. Maybe we'll get along after all.
  • There's something darkly hilarious about Wolfwood needing to complete an employment contract for being coerced into working as an assassin for a Apocalypse Cult. Complete with a blood oath even, judging by the blood smear on the paper. Wolfwood immediately points it out as bullshit.
Wolfwood: I dirty my hands and all I get is this scrap of paper?
  • There's a level of comical villainy about Knives using his piano to activate the trap door beneath Vash.

Episode 11: To the New World
  • Meryl stumbles onto Wolfwood and demands to know where Vash is. When Wolfwood tells her Vash is none of his business anymore, she kicks him in the shin. The way Wolfwood's body vibrates like a scared cat after he takes the hit is hilarious.
    • The way Meryl has to dart about to block Wolfwood's path, much like a sports player defending a goal, since he's so much taller than her and could easily step around her. She even has to lunge with both arms and one leg outstretched to keep him from going any farther.
  • Knives replacing Wolfwood's image in Vash's mind with him instead. However, compared to Wolfwood, Knives holding Punisher comes off as looking incredibly ridiculous.
  • While the roots/vines start to slowly spread out into July, Chuck Lee can be seen still holding his bowl of noodles and looking up at the impending disaster with confusion.
    • Also the knee-jerk response of the military to start shooting ineffectually at the weird plant thing they don't understand. Very human? Yes. Very funny? Also yes.
  • As Rem presents the geranium flower to Vash and Nai, Vash is upset when he's told that the flower isn't edible. He spends the scene poking it and squinting, as if considering whether to try it anyway.
    • The two then start bickering in true sibling fashion over Vash's preoccupation with food, which likely would have escalated to a physical argument if Rem hadn't separated them. Vash's full body eye roll is wonderfully sassy.
  • Nai is stuck at the computer because he doesn't know the password. Cue Vash swooping in, quickly typing in the code and then smugly turning to his twin.

Episode 12: High Noon At July
  • There's something comical about child Nai enjoying Westerns, given the story they're in.
  • Vash slowly floats down to the ground to face off with Nai, and the shot shows Meryl koala-wrapped around Vash's leg.
  • As the twins start fighting, Meryl can be seen slipping in the water covering the floor and wiping out in the background.
    • Even funnier is how Conrad pops out from his hiding spot to grab Meryl and pull her out of danger.
  • Vash shoots at Knives's legs to slow him down and Knives does an absolutely ridiculous flailing dance trying to avoid getting knocked over.
  • Vash and Knives wrestling over the cube can be funny for viewers who have had to fight over a TV remote or something similar with a sibling. Especially when Vash bites Knives's hand to get him to let go.
    • An animator has confirmed that the fight was indeed directed and choreographed to be an extremely dramatic and elaborate sibling squabble. The penultimate season showdown is genuinely two humanoid nukes going at each other like pissy children.
  • When Vash heads around the corner to reload, Knives follows him screaming about returning to the higher plane, and discovers Vash is gone. He looks around in confusion, Vash pops up out of nowhere and fires a bullet at Knives, and the scene goes into slow-motion to show a silly look of panic cross Knives's face as he dodges.
  • Vash throws Knives into a wall and then proceeds to somewhat slowly reload his gun, making Knives hear every click. Vash has been shown to be able to reload with inhuman speed, so he was just doing this to taunt Knives.
    • As Vash winds up to throw his brother, the camera zooms in while Knives starts talking as if he's going to launch into an argument... but Vash just ignores him and hurls him across the room. Knives slides down with his limbs splayed out like a bird hitting glass.
  • To try and find a safer place to dispose the cube, Vash jumps out the window and consciously avoids the decorative metal July symbol, sensibly tucking his face, arms and legs into his coat while he safely breaks the glass with his boot as he leaps through so he won't get anything he needs slashed by broken glass. Knives, on the other hand, roars and slams his entire body into it like he hates it personally, flipping the desk that Vash nimbly vaulted over, smashing a giant hole straight through the symbol and the surrounding glass in a starfish pose like the Kool-Aid-Man, and is visibly stunned by the impact before he drops from the air like he's in a Loony Tunes short, screaming on the way down.
    • The realisation that this is because Vash has been defenestrated more often than Knives has, which is it say at all and also too many times.
  • Just as Meryl is about to slip off the building, Wolfwood saves her in the nick of time. He claims it was to pay back for the cigarette pack she left behind.
    • As the two observe the battle, Wolfwood immediately ducks as Knives's blades just graze past his head. He then decides that they should probably not stick around.
  • Wolfwood stepping on and jumping off of Chuck Lee's face while escaping July. Meryl looks like she's being tossed around like a rag doll while Wolfwood is juggling her and Punisher in his arms as he's parkouring across the buildings.
  • As Conrad flies off with the plants, the building on top of July's tower becomes a literal UFO.
  • In such an emotionally intense moment, there's something hysterical about Knives shrieking in outrage over Vash being unable to think of a better plan for co-existing with humanity than the one he's using after more than a hundred years. There is honest to God a beat of silence as Knives just stares in aghastment while they're hanging off a ticking bomb.
Knives: After more than a century... that's the best answer you can come up with?!
    • As Vash tells Knives what he's always done, a short scene of Vash running is being played, and it's the silliest-looking run cycle ever. He starts tripping over himself as bullets start raining on him and rapidly picks up the pace. At one point it even looks like Vash gets shot on the ass, causing him to jump up in pain.
  • In the English dub, Meryl pitches her voice down (poorly) to imitate Roberto when she says, "Heya, newbie."
