Micromon: The Legend of Vaithe is a 2014 Mons Series game developed by MOGA. It was released on iOS. Its sequel, Nexomon, was released in 2017.

The story follows a teenager who gets transported into a world known as Pixekai through a mysterious app in their mobile phone. There, they meets up with Professor Malk, and are tasked with capturing various Micromon for his researches. Like Pokémon, however, things quickly get darker...

This game takes heavy inspiration from Pokémon, where the player will collect various Mons and use them in battle. The game has a linear progress route. It's often described as one of the first successful Pokémon-inspired mobile games.

Tropes:

  • Amazing Technicolor Battlefield: The battles against Leah's bodyguards, Leah and Vaithe take place in a cyan background. The rematch against Vaithe takes place in a red background instead.
  • Anti-Escapism Aesop: With the implication that Pixekai serves as "a place to escape from real life" in-universe and its total destruction in the end at the hands of someone who dislikes human's cowardice, note  as well as how many residents from that world actually want to go to reality, there is the theme that the digital world isn't and shouldn't be used to escape reality.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: An embittered and misanthropic Malk succeeded in destroying Pixekai, killing everyone in it.
  • Big Bad: Leah, the leader of Black Root, who chose the protagonist in order to capture Vaithe, goes to reality by giving them a Sadistic Choice of helping her achieve her goal or watching other towns being destroyed. Then it's revealed that Malk is Evil All Along and the worst of all, trying to destroy Pixekai for some reason.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Near the end, all four Legion members are brainwashed by the Black Root's virus and forced to fight you again, complete with some Ominous Visual Glitch. After being freed, they all express gratitude to the protagonist and presumably leave Pixekai to go to the real world.
  • Disney Death: In the climax of the story, Vaithe destroys B002. After the battle, B002 talks to the protagonist via their device, informing them that since they're a robot, they can easily be revived via data transferring.
  • Downer Ending: For all the protagonist has done to protect it, Pixekai is destroyed by Malk, the very professor that guided them all the way. Even worse, the sequel reveals that he makes his way out of Pixekai and plans to destroy the real world as well by helping the Big Bad there.
  • Dying as Yourself: Leah reveals herself to be the caring mother of Zeth before dying.
  • Elite Four: The four Legion Members each serves as this. Defeating all of them has you be promoted to the S-ranked trainer.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Legion Slider and Moonborn always have their eyes closed.
  • Fade to White: The game ends this way, implying that Malk succeeds in his plan.
  • Floating Continent: Aera is a floating island home to many Wind Micromon.
  • Gacha Game: Despite being a paid game already, there is a gacha system that has you...well, get Mons through a gacha. It's even part of the game's tutorial.
  • Foreshadowing: At Route 1 you can encounter a strange character who will eerily say that he wants organic and fights you. They are a member of Black Root who want you to advance their goal because you are an organic. They also look similar to the members of Super Minion Elite Rangers.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All: Well, this is a Mons game, what do you expect?
  • His Name Really Is "Barkeep": There is a cyborg who is called "Cyborg".
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Legion Lethar seems like a ruthless trainer and a Blood Knight at first, but he doesn't have too much difficulty in trusting in you after you stopped the bad guys in Magma, and he is shown to have quite a soft side as well. Part of the reason why he agrees to help you find Moonborn, the next Legion member, is because he is grateful towards her for allowing him to grow up healthily, and he wants the player to help repay this kindness.
  • Laughing Mad: Upon the player refusing to work for Leah, she unmasks herself, and begins to laugh maniacally.
  • Lethal Lava Land: Magma is a town built in a volcanic area. One of the NPCs lampshades it by saying that falling into the lava will lead into a Game Over, though you won't actually be able to do it.
  • Natural Elements: The four types of elements in the game (besides Normal) are Water, Fire, Wind and Mineral, although Mineral is just a reskin of Fire being weak to Water and strong to Wind.
  • Olympus Mons: You can capture the Godly Micromon, including Vaithe itself.
  • Palmtree Panic: Navia is the second town after the initial area you'll visit, and it's where you fight the first Legion member, Slider.
  • Playable Epilogue: The restored Growtown serves as this, where you can talk to all the people you've helped that will thank you for saving Pixekai. Until an update makes it the way to The Very Definitely Final Dungeon.
  • Post-End Game Content: After defeating Vaithe, you can capture Vaithe as well as some other new Micromon.
  • The Reveal: At the end of Beyond Growtown, a man called Lavinne instantly berates you for defeating Vaithe as he wants to personally get his revenge on it. Then he reveals that Malk is also responsible for causing damage to Pixekai, and you soon learn that it's already too late to stop him.
  • The Rival: Zeth. He initially appears as quite a bitter person who keeps challenging you. He warms up to you later.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Subverted. Right before Navia, when near a cave and a staircase, a strange voice asks the protagonist to go upstairs. You don't have to be too experienced in real life to know that a shady voice asking a child to come over them shouldn't be trusted, but you can only watch as your protagonist obeys it and falls into the trap of Super Minion Elite Forces. Thankfully, the rangers are pretty incompetent with the yellow ranger even forgetting his lines, and they retreat after the yellow ranger is defeated.
  • True Final Boss: Doing some quests will unlock a new area called Beyond Growtown which is the true final area of the game. B003, who is an improved version of the destroyed B002, serves as this at the end of it.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: The people who created Pixekai in hope of creating a place to escape reality. One of their NPCs would not only destroy it in the end, but also threaten humanity in general, meaning that these people personally created a demon.
  • The Very Definitely Final Dungeon: Beyond Growtown
  • White Hair, Black Heart:
    • Leah initially appears to be a complete psychopath who would step down into any low to reach the reality. Turns out that she also wants her son to go to the real world and she genuinely loves him, and her crazy part is really because she herself is affected by the energy.
    • Zeth, Leah's son is a downplayed example. He is pretty rude when you first meet him, but he softens over time.
