Death Wish is a Game Mod for Blood by Bloatoid, which adds 36 levels across three episodes, and functions as a Fan Sequel.

The plot concerns Caleb's victory over Tchernobog, which stripped him of his ability to bind dimensions and his divine form, sent into a void, but Tchernobog resurrects within his original human form. He soon makes plans to reacquire his divine form, which puts him back into Caleb's line of sight.

The mod can be downloaded on ModDB. It is compatible with the BloodGDX and NBlood source ports, as well as Fresh Supply.

Not to be confused with Death Wish.

This mod contains the following Tropes:

  • All the Worlds Are a Stage: "E3M9: Nightmare", the first Secret Level of Episode 3, is a dream world where many prior episodes are represented, with many of them even holding secrets in the same place.
  • Ambiguous Time Period: Much like its parent game, Death Wish features an antiquated look and atmosphere alongside a mish-mash of time periods, with ancient castles and temples alongside arcades ("E3M4: Bogey Beach") and space stations ("E2M3: Mothership").
  • And the Adventure Continues: After killing Tchernobog again, Caleb decides to delay rebuilding his home to kill any cultists he might have missed.
  • Anti-Frustration Features: There are tomes throughout the levels that generally expand on the lore, but can also hint at what the player should do next, or help them find a secret.
  • Ascended Fanon: Fans of the original game speculated that the constantly inconsistent time period was the result of Tchernobog's influence, seeing as he has the power to bind and connect between different realities. In Death Wish, the player explicitly travels through different dimensions, sometimes more than once within the same level.
  • Call-Forward: The intro for Episode 1 obliquely references Tchernobog's role as "The One That Binds", which Caleb has become by Blood II due to killing Tchernobog, and the penultimate level of Episode 1, "E1M7: Urban Decay", features CabalCo, the corporation set up by the Cabal in II.
  • Incoming Ham: After Caleb exits his house in "E1M1: Home Sweet Home", Tchernobog proudly announces his return as a squad of cultists crash a car into Caleb's fence.
Tchernobog: The festival of blood CONTINUES!
  • Interquel: Takes place after the original Blood, but before II.
  • Kick the Dog: The Cabal kills Caleb's pet Hell Hound, Cujo, at the start of "E1M1: Home Sweet Home".
  • My Greatest Failure: Tchernabog spends the entirety of "E3M1: Whisper Peak" taunting Caleb over his failure to save Ophelia, from leaving messages around the map blaming him for her death to tormenting him with visions of her crucified corpse.
  • Not Quite Dead: The entire premise of the mod: Tchernobog survived his fateful encounter with Caleb through the power of the Arcane Heart, the physical heart of his previous human vessel. After Caleb destroys it, and then kills him afterwords, Tchernobog is left Deader than Dead.
  • Remixed Level: Every secret level is followed by a shorter version of the previous level, but generally in winter ("Morning Gory", the level following "E3M9: Nightmare", is a snowy version of "E3M4: Bogey Beach").
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: The fact that Tchernobog and the Cabal went out of their way to murder Caleb's dog Cujo (something that Caleb reacts with genuine anger) can be considered added motivation for taking them down once again.
  • Serial Escalation: Death Wish takes ample advantage of modern hardware capabilities, and cranks nearly every dial up to eleven.
    • There are much more enemies than Blood ever threw at you at a time; hordes of zombies, gillbeasts, rats, and choking hands menace Caleb on several occasions.
    • Moreso than enemies, there are a lot more explosions by far. There's at least one enormous, explosive setpiece in nearly every map. The final map of each episode takes this past eleven, usually after the killing the final boss
  • Shout-Out: Much like its parent game, there are a lot of horror references. With some levels being outright based on other horror media:
    • "E1M5: Jigsaw" is a very straightforward reference to the Saw films, featuring a room that looks similar to ones from the film, and many death traps. It has a secret entrance to a level called "E1M11: Shudder Island".
    • "E1M6: What Lies Beneath" is entirely based on John Carpenter's The Thing, with it taking in a remote arctic outpost that has discovered alien life.
    • "E2M3: Mothership" is based on Alien, featuring the orbital Cabal outpost named The Monstromo. Gillbeasts and Choking Hands are stand-ins for Xenomorphs and Facehuggers, respectively, and the level ends with a recreation of the self-destruct sequence seen in the climax of the film.
    • The previously mentioned level also leads to a secret level based on Aliens- "E2M12: They Mostly Come at Night". Gillbeasts and Choking Hands fill the same roles as in E2M3, and the end of the level recreates the climax of the film, complete with a Mother Spider in place of the Xenomorph Queen.
    • While not being a complete reference, the second secret level of Episode two is called "E2M10: Dread Faction"
    • Two of the levels, "E3M1: Whisper Peak" and "E3M2: The Room", are recreations of Silent Hill locations (the titular town and The Room).
  • Soul Jar: The Arcane Heart, the disembodied heart of Tchernobog's most recent human vessel, prevents him from being permanently killed while it survives. Caleb spends the entirety of Episode 2 tracking it down and destroying it.
