Go To

Released in 2023, Antinomia: Final Fantasy VI is a ROM hack of Final Fantasy VI that greatly expands the role of General Leo. The IPS patch can be found here.

Antinomia contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Deviation: Terra is the first character recruited in the World of Ruin, and Celes washes up near Mobliz after a fight against Phunbaba.
  • Adaptational Friendship: General Leo befriends most of the Returners, where in canon he was murdered by Kefka before he could meet more than five of them.
  • Adapted Out: Siegfried is removed from the game entirely to make room in the sprite data for new events.
  • A Father to His Men: General Leo is fond of his soldiers, and before joining the Returners attempts to take towns with as little casualties as possible.
  • After the End: The World of Ruin is a world where mutated monsters roam the land, crops have trouble growing, supplies are scarce and Kefka has ascended to godhood.
  • Ascended Extra: General Leo goes from being Killed Off for Real at Thamasa in vanilla to one of the most important heroes in this hack.
  • Boss-Altering Consequence: Suplexing the train ends the fight in one round.
Phantom Train: "I have no idea what that was, but it's amazing. I'll yield this fight to you."
  • Cultured Badass: General Leo is very fond of music and opera, and has some of the best stats in the game.
  • Dark Reprise: Terra's Theme gets an additional dark piano variant that plays if you fail to save the young boy.
  • Death of a Child:
    • Like in vanilla, Cyan's son Owain is poisoned by Kefka along with the rest of Doma.
    • At the start of the World of Ruin, Terra has the opportunity to get a young boy back to health by feeding him ratburgers. Fail the minigame, and the boy dies.
  • Doomed Hometown: Leo's hometown of Vector is completely destroyed on the day the world fell.
  • Due to the Dead: After Cid's (offscreen) death, Celes takes the time to bury Cid, and the player has to take every party member to his grave to get the La Diva.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Leo and Kefka get one different from vanilla. After it breaks that Biggs and Wedge didn't report back, Leo shows concern for the soldiers, while Kefka calls them disposable, and sees Terra as his property.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: During the confrontation on top of the Floating Continent, Gestahl says of Kefka "He'll backstab you in an instant." It doesn't take much to guess what happens to him next.
  • Game-Breaking Bug:
    • The sketch glitch from vanilla 1.0 is still present.
    • This hack's 1.0 had a major bug where recruiting Shadow in the World of Balance softlocked the sequence getting to the Floating Continent. This bug was patched in less than 24 hours.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Mog takes this role, being recruitable in the World of Ruin and comes equipped with a Moogle Charm.
  • Heel–Face Turn: General Leo abandons the Empire once it's clear Gestahl and Kefka can't be reasoned with.
  • Infinity -1 Sword: Il Divo has innate Rapid Fire, meaning it attacks four times at half power.
  • Infinity +1 Sword: Obtaining La Diva requires recruiting all 14 permanent party members and taking them as well as Mog to Cid's grave, and the result is a sword that can cast Holy simply by swinging it.
  • Kick the Dog: Kefka creates an illusion of Terra just to psychologically torment Leo before an attempt on Leo's life that almost succeeds.
  • Last of His Kind: Mog is the last Moogle alive, and survived because of the Moogle Charm protecting him from monsters.
  • Luck-Based Mission: The Rat-killing minigame basically requires a constant stream of good luck and fast moving rats for the child to survive.
  • Master of All: If you recruit Gogo as soon as you get the Falcon and take him to the turntables, he will hit hard with both physical attacks and magic, as well as have great stamina.
  • Monster Arena: The Colosseum is now a straight duel of a player-controlled character vs. an enemy, with a chance to win great equipment by betting items and winning.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After Leo and Celes defeat Yura, the Esper realizes the destruction that he and the other Espers brought to Vector, and leave the burned city.
  • Mythology Gag: The turntables found throughout the World of Ruin play different tracks from FFIV and V, as well as boost a certain stat by 5.
  • The Paladin: After Leo accepts Terra's offer to learn magic upon recruitment, he focuses on learning healing magic, making him a Paladin.
  • Permanently Missable Content: If you don't wait for General Leo, it will be impossible to get one of the best swords in the game, La Diva, due to it requiring recruiting every party member.
    • Additionally, while the other best sword, Il Divo, can still be obtained without waiting for Leo, you can still miss it if you recruit Sabin before finishing Leo's event, due to losing access to a turntable in the Collapsing House that is needed for the sidequest to obtain it.
  • Plotline Death: Cid dies of sickness during the Time Skip.
  • Race Lift: General Leo is depicted as dark-skinned in this hack, while he has lighter skin in vanilla.
  • Required Party Member: The player has to take Celes and Terra to the Floating Continent, and is required to add Leo to their party for the dungeon.
  • Shout-Out: One of the Espers fought off at Vector is Tiamat.
  • Shout-Out Theme Naming: The two Mooks that join Leo and Celes to defend Vector are named Piett and Ozzel.
  • Source Music: In addition to the opera from vanilla, the turntables play pieces from FFIV and V when interacted with.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: General Leo surviving is the whole reason to play this hack.
  • Waiting Puzzle: The player has to wait for General Leo for him to be recruitable in the World of Ruin.
