Trivia / Dead End: Paranormal Park

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Alex Brightman does the voice of both Pugsley and Temeluchas.
  • Actor Allusion: This isn't the first time Alex Brightman has played (or sang as) an evil, chaotic demon who has to make a deal with a protagonist in order to become physical associated with the color green. His Temeluchus voice is in fact incredibly similar to his Beetlejuice voice (though his Pugsley voice is more Playing Against Type).
  • Completely Different Title:
    • In Japan: デッド・エンド: ようこそ! オカルト遊園地へ (Dead End: Welcome! To the Occult Amusement Park)
    • In Greece: Αδιέξοδο: Το Πάρκο των Παραφυσικών Φαινομένων (Deadlock: The Park of Paranormal Phenomena).
    • In Israel: דד אנד: שומרי הבית הרדוף (Dead End: The Haunted House Guards).
    • In the Middle East: ديد إند: أشباح مدينة الملاهي (Dead End: Amusement Park Ghosts)
    • In Brazil: Guardiões da Mansão do Terror (Guardians of the Mansion of Terror)
    • In Thailand: เดด เอนด์: สวนสนุกสุดหลอน (Dead End: The Spooky Theme Park)
  • Cross-Cast Role: Pauline Phoenix is played by drag queen Clinton Leupp/Miss Coco Peru.
  • Directed by Cast Member: Or in this case composed by cast member — Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy plays Josh and composed all but one of the original songs for "Phantom of the Theme Park".
  • Executive Meddling: The reason why Courtney uses feminine pronouns; the executives at Netflix were conscious of how a lot of non-binary characters in media aren't human (including in one of their other shows), and were worried that Courtney wouldn't be received well because of that, so they decided to allow voice actors of all genders audition for her, and that she would use the same pronouns as whoever was cast.
  • Playing Against Type: Emily Osment is mostly known for her perky or sarcastic sitcom character roles, so her voice is almost unrecognizable as Courtney.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor:
    • Barney is trans, as is his voice actor Zach Barack. You may know him for being the first trans actor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in Spider-Man: Far From Home. This is in stark contrast to the previous voice actor for the character in Dead End, Zack Pearlman, who is neither gay nor trans.
    • In the EU Portuguese dub the gay actor Henrique Feist voices Pugsley, which is now written to be more allegorical to the gay and trans experience.
    • Zagan is a transgender woman like her voice actress, Michaela Jae Rodriguez.
    • Margie, a woman Barney and Logs meet, is in a relationship with another woman and is played by sapphic transgender actress Angelica Ross.
    • Jules, a non-binary ghost, is voiced by non-binary actor Z Infante.
  • Recursive Adaptation: An animated series based on a comic based on an animated pilot.
  • Screwed by the Network: The show was cancelled by Netflix just as the crew were starting a writer’s room for season 3.
  • Self-Adaptation: The animated series was created by Hamish Steele, who also created Dead End and Deadendia.
  • Unspecified Role Credit: The credits just list the voice actors, and not the characters they played.
  • What Could Have Been: A few facts revealed in "Dead End: Cool Things You Didn't Know" are about this:
    • Courtney and Pugsley were originally going to be under glamours, cast by the former, to explain why most of the park's residents and visitors don't seem to acknowledge them, before the writers decided aside from that being too complicated to explain, nobody batting an eye at a demon and talking dog was much funnier.
    • An episode about Pugsley being worshipped by a cult was considered, but the writers decided not to do it due to Pugsley already going through a lot in the show, and the plot risking being "too extreme". Yet another involved petting park animals who were werehumans.
    • Pauline's name was "Barbara", but the crew felt the name was too close to Barney's name, so they shifted it to another character, who became known as Barborah due to Nicole Paglia, the head writer, misspelling the name, which was kept in the show.
    • Pugsley was supposed to have an opening song in "The Phantom of the Theme Park", but it was cut due to the crew feeling they needed to ease into the musical aspect of the episode, which initially left Pugsley having no song. After Alex Brightman, a Broadway star, was cast as Pugsley and Temeluchus, the crew decided to give the characters a song at the last minute.
    • Alex Brightman, who plays Pugsley and Temeluchus, auditioned to play Courtney and Hox, but the parts went to Emily Osment and Tom Lenk. Hamish Steele also considered playing Pugsley.
    • Courtney was supposed to be non-binary. However, Netflix feared potential backlash due to the growing controversy of depicting non-binaries as non-human; her gender (or pronouns at least) were eventually determined on the gender/pronouns of the voice actor that got the role (in this case, Emily Osment).
    • Hamish Steele on his twitter has revealed some things that would've happened in Season 3 if it was produced.
      • A timeskip would've occurred and all the human characters would be eighteen with the season starting with Barney getting top surgery.
      • There would've been an episode where Temuluchus and Zagan's mom who was revealed to be Paimon gotten married with Baal, Asmodeus' parent. Barney and Norma would've been Asmodeus and Zagan's plus 1s.
      • By this point, Courtney would've working for Pael in exchange for learning more about her past and would've tried to sabotage the wedding since marriage between demons of different planes is illegal but her efforts would only bring Baal and Paimon closer.
      • Courtney would've been "angel-pilled" into believing that the angels were right.
      • Danny Devito and Sigourney Weaver were considered as voice actors for Baal and Paimon respectively.
    • Hamish Steele has released a PDF of the script for Season 3 Episode 1. The episode was called "Thursday the 12th" and would involve Barney, Logs and Norma facing a psycho woodsman who would be revealed to be part of a escape room set up by Norma. In the episode, there is a brief flashback of Courtney's life pre-life and in the end, she is confronted by Kushiel who has become the new Watcher.
  • Working Title: Was announced as Deadendia after the webcomic it was based on, but was changed prior to its release.
