BE WARNED, The fanfiction Post-MU Life's a Scream! has quite a number of Tear Jerker moments that will definitely tug at heartstrings.
- Chapter 2:
- Laura saying goodbye to Archie the Scare Pig on her last day at Fear Tech.
- Chapter 4:
- Terry ends up giving Naomi a massive "The Reason You Suck" Speech in the library, saying that the PNK sorority are nothing but stuck-up jerks and even compares them to the ROR fraternity. This understandably leaves Naomi upset and runs out of the library in tears.
- Chapter 5:
- The Perry twins' entire argument in the Science Labs. At its climax, Terry actually shoves his twin and tells him "This is one of the days I wish we were separated!" The aforementioned sentence is presumably the equivalent of "I Wished You Were Dead" or similar to the Perry twins, especially given how hurt poor Terri is and how stunned Mike and Sulley are about it being said. And then the last words said by either of the twins in this chapter are Terri screaming for his older brother. Hurts even more when it's revealed what happens in later chapters...
- Chapter 6:
- Just how depressed the entire MU campus is about the twins being hurt. Stand outs include Katy and Naomi in hysterical tears, the Oozmas being heartbroken and going insane with worry, Claire getting her "You Could Totally Die" comment coming back to haunt her and Terry half-waking up and seeing what appears to be his now-separated-from-him twin before passing out again.
- Chapter 7:
- Naomi remains heartbroken over Terry and her sisters don't help matters as they keep bringing up that they're a sorority of woobies who can't keep the few dates who decide to give them a chance around. Taylor relates an incident where her date asked the waitress out directly in front of her.
- Terry in flashback. Turns out he crushed on an Alpha Bitch named Merida Malicestorm in high school and she pulled a prank on him similar to the one ROR did in the movie. It broke his heart and is the root of all his romantic issues in present day.
- Yet another Cliffhanger. There's a possibility Terri didn't make it.
- Chapter 8:
- It turns out that, sometime after Terry had given Johnny a massive "The Reason You Suck" Speech, he considered just giving up and transferring out of Monsters University to start a new life in another college where he and Terri will be more accepted. Although he doesn't go through with it, thanks to some wise words from Terri, it's still depressing to see just how much Terry has been pushed over the edge with all the perpetual bullying to just want to straight-up abandon MU and Oozma Kappa.
- Chapter 10:
- The twins wake up and our fears have been confirmed: they are now in 2 separate bodies. Both of them are extremely distraught and desperate for physical contact to an almost painful level.
- Chapter 11:
- During OK's reunion, Terry refers to Mrs. Carlton as "Mom". She turns around in surprise and he immediately corrects himself. The Tear Jerker comes in when you realize he likely corrected himself because he thought she was offended. It's also entirely possible that the Perry twins' biological mother is no longer part of the picture, making Mrs. Carlton the only mother figure they have.
- Chapter 11 Part 2:
- The campus' horror at seeing the twins separated. Even though the readers already knew, it's a kick in the gut to see the twins' classmates' reactions to their new state.
- Terry's insistence that he can compete in the Scare Games despite it being painfully obvious he's still in need of recovery. Dean Hardscrabble telling him to cease and desist almost comes off as a non-lethal Shoot the Dog given how upset he is about it.
- The hug between Naomi and Terry Mrs. Carlton initiates at the party is both this trope and a Heartwarming Moment. Terry breaks it as soon as possible and firmly insists he didn't want or enjoy it and Naomi finds it bittersweet.
- Chapter 12:
- We're told Terry desperately wanted the separation to be All Just a Dream...no such luck. He spends the first part of the chapter blaming himself for his thoughtless wish and declaring his new life A Fate Worse Than Death.
- Once he wakes up, Terri tries to downplay how hard the separation is. It's bittersweet since while the optimism brightens Terry, it's also obvious how painful the whole mess is to both twins.
- It's clearly hard for the OK family to watch the twins struggle, especially since Terry is so adverse to help.
- The sheer amount of Innocent Insensitivity the twins keep running into is heart-breaking.
- Dirk turns out to have been bullied in middle school and hates himself for turning into his bullies last semester.
- Randall's hatred towards Sulley is a tragic reminder of his eventual fate. It doesn't help that he keeps breaking Monnie's heart worrying over what Laura thinks.
- Chapter 13:
- The Innocent Insensitivity continues and shows no sign of stopping.
